WWE NXT Invasion & Season 2 begins!
Everybody is still talking about Monday Night Raw from a few nights ago. The special 3-hour episode had one major revelation or surprise. Not the A-Team, or Roddy Piper, IRS or Viewer's Choice Night, but the mysterious and surprising NXT invasion that took place.
If you saw Raw, you know the deal. Wade Barrett came out during the main event to "scout" John Cena against CM Punk, or so it appeared. Soon Barrett got a closer look, and later he was joined by his former NXT competition- all seven former contestants from Season 1. They took care of Punk and Gallows, then surrounded the ring and then proceeded to give Cena the beatdown of his life.
They didn't just target Cena, they also took out Jerry Lawler, Matt Striker, Justin Roberts, The Fink, referees, WWE staff and more. Beyond that, they destroyed the Raw ring, the outside floor, the commentators table and crowd barriers. Chairs were tossed, ring ropes busted and fans' feelings hurt. It was all out carnage, and the WWE Universe is still wondering why.
Cena was taken out of the arena by stretcher, but gave us the thumbs up so we know he's not dead. However, the story is very odd. Another thing we learned on Tuesday's NXT was that Michael Cole got away. He noted he escaped through the audience but that he saw kids crying. Some have speculated that Michael Cole is behind all of this. That would be one interesting story!
Now some questions: Where were the other wrestlers? Does everyone leave the building when its the main event? Did Bret Hart turn off his flatscreen monitor and decide Punk vs Cena was too boring to watch? What about The A-Team, they're supposed to be able to take down armies aren't they? Or how about arena security? We certainly saw them try to stop Matt Hardy from getting into it with Drew McIntyre on Smackdown.
Another interesting note, former WWE commentator Jim Ross tweeted the following:
No...I'm NOT the secret leader of the renegade NXT faction. Good rumor though. I AM the leader of the BBQNATION & will sell YOU some sauce! 9:14 PM Jun 8th via txt
Ok, all that aside, it appears the NXT guys have banded together and want to make a statement. Why is the big question, and did we waste our time with Season 1 of NXT, because if they just let all the guys into WWE now after weeks of competition, it was a farce.
Season 2 started Tuesday night, and Matt Striker offered the rookies a "sincere" welcome to the WWE. Their pros then turned against them in the ring and gave them all a good beating. The point being the WWE Superstars don't take kindly to any NXT rookies encroaching on their WWE Universe. Consider that a warning.
We got a look at some of the new rookies in the ring too. Former St. John's bball star, the 7 footer Eli Cottonwood won a match with John Morrison as his partner against Titus O'Neil and Zack Ryder. Morrison won the match with the Shooting Starpress on O'Neil, who seems like quite a physical specimen.
We also saw Percy "Showtime" Watson in the ring with MVP against Cody Rhodes and Husky Harris. Harris is related to IRS, and has the look of a Blue Meanie or Dusty Rhodes in terms of his body composition. So far, the fans seem to like the quirky yet flamboyant Watson. He wears red rimmed glasses and seems like he's had too many Red Bulls as he struts down to the ring acting like a paranoid rooster. But hey, he's probably got the "IT" factor they're looking for.
We'll be meeting more of the NXT rookies over the coming weeks. Michael McGillicutty looks a lot like Jamie Noble. Cottonwood is like a cross between Great Khali and Festus, minus their girths. Alex Riley is The Miz' new protege and for this season it appears like Miz is on board and likes his rookie to win it all. The smallest of them all, Kuval (Low-Ki) is working with Team LayCool, and it's good to see some divas on the show this season.
It's hard to pick a winner for NXT Season 2 this early, but the good news for this new season is the fans will get 50% input into the voting along with the Pros. It'll be a good way to involve the fans more in the process and maybe give them a new superstar they want to watch in the ring. First voting takes place in about 3-6 weeks time, so stay tuned to WWE.com!

I heard an obvious rumor that Mr. McMahon is using the NXT rookies to make Bret Hart look bad and eventually get him to resign or something along those terms.
And im sure the season 1 NXT guys aren't permanent, but only time will tell.
And as for nobody coming out to help Cena, thats probably just a plot hole in the story, or may be explained later.
Good points chris...Definitely could be a setup for Mr. McMahon, and the fact Michael Cole got away makes you wonder too.
As for nobody coming to Cena's aid, on Superstars Matt Striker said that the WWE security was "overwhelmed by the attack" which is rather interesting. They usually have 20 guys on hand to restrain wrestlers, but it is probably just a plot hole.
