Wrestlemania 28 Matches - John Cena vs The Rock Official?

On this past Monday's episode of Raw, it appears that the first of the Wrestlemania 28 matches have been set. John Cena vs The Rock will headline the event scheduled for 2012 in Rock's hometown of Miami. It's an interesting set up a year ahead of the big event.

Perhaps the reason this happened was so Mr. McMahon could seal the deal and really push interest in a struggling WWE product a year ahead of time. Maybe he made Rock commit and agree to this sort of on-air segment with Rock and Cena, so that the fans will hold Rock to his word. It will really tarnish his image if the "People's Champ" doesn't make good on the match in 2012.

Will it translate to higher buy rates and ticket sales? Likely it will lead to one of the fastest sellouts of Wrestlemania tickets yet as two of the company's all time greats battle for supremacy. You have to question how WWE plans to make sure this one happens though. Does it mean Cena is going to leave WWE for several months for a new movie or other role, ensuring he is injury-free before the match next year?

For The Rock, he's been out of the WWE wrestling ring for years, with the exception of his recent involvement in the Wrestlemania 27 WWE Title match and then Monday's episode of Raw. They will likely bill this as a battle between two major champions in WWE history, with achievements in entertainment outside the ring. Ironically, both guys are scheduled to make guest appearances on next Monday's "WWE Tough Enough" show too.

You have to wonder if the WWE commentators will continue to push this one for the next year, or if at some point they stop. It just seems like a lengthy buildup, although the payoff is likely to be a good one.

Who do you think will win this epic battle between The Rock and John Cena? Will it really happen in 2012 at Wrestlemania 28?
