Raw Recap 06.23.08

Raw Recap from San Antonio, TX:

Raw kicked off its special 3 hour draft show with the 3 different commentary teams: Jim Ross & Jerry Lawler of Raw, Mike Adamle & Tazz of ECW, and Mick Foley with Michael Cole for Smackdown. Lawler announced that each match on the show will be an inter-brand match, with the wrestler(s) from the winning brand earning their show a draft pick. The password for Million Dollar Mania was revealed as "Night of Champions".

Triple H (Raw) vs. Mark Henry (SM)

Raw battled Smackdown for the first pick in the 2008 draft. In the matchup, Henry was able to overpower HHH for much of the contest. The Game kicked out of several pin attempts by Henry. Henry tried to seal the deal by coming off the ropes to splash HHH, but Hunter rolled away. As Henry staggered to his feet, HHH was able to hit the Pedigree and pickup the pinfall victory, earning Raw the #1 pick.

Winner: Triple H wins via pinfall over Mark Henry to earn Raw the #1 draft pick.

#1 Draft pick Raw drafted Rey Mysterio (from Smackdown).
Raw received Rey with the first pick, and Mysterio headed down to the ring. In the ring he and Triple H shook hands with Rey eyeing the prized WWE title.

Vince McMahon came to the top of the ramp to award the first cash prize in Million Dollar Mania for the show. Vince said 5 winners tonight get $100,000, with 1 lucky winner getting $500,000! Kelly Kelly came to the ramp to help Vince dial the lucky Raw viewer for $100,000, then Kelly Kelly did a celebratory dance on the ramp.

Backstage Triple H welcomed Rey to Raw in a locker room. John Cena entered and did the same shaking hands with Rey. Rey left the scene and Cena confronted HHH for last week. Cena said he came to HHH's aid, but HHH turned on him. Triple H told Cena to stay out of his business because the title fight is personal now. Triple H told Cena he isn't as good as him, and until he beats him for the WWE title, he's nothing.

Finlay & Hornswoggle (SM) vs. Carlito & Santino (Raw)

Raw battled Smackdown for the 2nd draft pick of the night. In the match, Finlay was ready to strike Santino with the shilaleigh. Santino grabbed it and the ref saw him. The ref grabbed away the shilaleigh and while Santino was distracted, Finlay grabbed him for the Celtic Cross, slamming him down. Hornswoggle finished things off with the Tadpole Splash off the corner ropes to get the pinfall.

Winners: Finlay & Hornswoggle win via pinfall over Carlito & Santino.

#2 Draft Pick: Smackdown drafted Jeff Hardy (from Raw) Hardy came to the top of the ramp to his theme music, with Hornswoggle and Finlay applauding him from the ring. Smackdown's commentary team celebrated the pick. Randy Orton was shown watching it all on a flat screen TV backstage with his arm in a sling.

Vince had Randy Orton come out to the ramp to help with the next cash prize giveaway. Orton spoke about his injury and return, vowing that whoever is WWE champ when he returns will face him and lose. Orton said he was in no mood to give away money, then went backstage. Vince gave away $100,000 and also informed fans of tonight's main event pitting Edge vs. Cena.

Hardcore Holly & Cody Rhodes vs. Chavo Guerrero & Bam Neely

ECW took on Raw in this contest to determine who received the 3rd draft pick. Ted Dibiase Jr. joined Jerry Lawler at ringside to watch the match, and refused to reveal his mystery partner for the tag team title match.

During the draft pick match, Rhodes ran over to knock Bam Neely off the apron. Chavo got tossed over the ropes, but managed to hang on, then used a headscissors to pull Rhodes over the top rope. As Chavo was on the apron, Holly was able to grab him from there and pick him up for an Alabama Slam to win it.

Winners: Hardcore Holly & Cody Rhodes win via pinfall over Chavo & Bam Neely to earn Smackdown the 3rd draft pick.

#3 Draft Pick: Raw received CM Punk (from ECW).
Mr. Money in the bank came out to the apron with briefcase in hand in another great pick for Raw.

Chris Jericho shown backstage walking on his way out to address the Raw crowd.

Chris Jericho arrived to the ring to the boos and jeers of fans in attendance. Jericho continued to discuss how fans have turned on him, and have cheered a dishonest wrestler like Shawn Michaels. Y2J said he is no longer allowing fans to cheer for him anymore. Jericho had footage shown of Michaels backstabbing various partners and friends since 1992, such as Marty Jannetty, Diesel, Hulk Hogan, John Cena & Batista. Jericho told the crowd only one other wrestler is like Y2J and that's Lance Cade. Cade appeared on the Titantron and said he was the brightest student to come out of Shawn Michaels Wrestling school, then said he realizes HBK was pretending to be his friend when he will ultimately backstab him. Next Jericho showed his attack on Michaels 2 weeks ago in the Highlight Reel. According to Jerry Lawler, Michaels suffered a bad eye injury.

Jericho continued trying to insult and trash talk HBK in the ring. All of a sudden, Michaels' theme music hit and HBK came charging down to the ring. Michaels had bandaids around his hurt left eye, but still tackled down Jericho in the ring. The two continued fighting, landing outside. Outside the ring, Jericho managed to trip HBK, causing him to hit face first into the announce table. Michaels writhed around on the floor holding his already hurt eye as WWE staff came to attend to him. Jericho smiled as he admired the pain he caused HBK.

Miz & Morrison (ECW) vs. Matt & Jeff Hardy (SM)

Prior to the match with Miz & Morrison in the ring, Vickie Guerrero came to the top of the ramp with Ryder & Hawkins. Vickie said they were originally scheduled to face Miz & Morrison but due to recent transactions she changed it. The reunited Hardys came out to a loud fan response to fight in the draft pick match.

In the match, Matt Hardy had the advantage on Morrison. After a leg drop off the corner on Morrison, Matt was ready for a pin. The Miz distracted the referee enough to allow Morrison to roll up Matt from behind, then pull his tights to secure a pin. ECW stole the match and their first draft pick.

Winners: Miz & Morrison win via pinfall over Matt & Jeff Hardy.

#4 Draft Pick: ECW drafted Matt Hardy (from Smackdown).
In a surprise pick, the United States champion Matt Hardy moves from Smackdown to ECW. Matt and Jeff were reunited just briefly for Raw as members of Smackdown.

Vince McMahon introduced the Natureboy, Ric Flair to help him give away a cash prize. Flair dialed up a lucky Raw viewer who won $100,000, then got to hear a Ric Flair "WOOOO!"

Mickie James & Melina vs. Natalya & Victoria

Smackdown and Raw battled it out again for a draft pick. In this contest, Melina was up on the corner, and Victoria was able to shove her off to the outside. Melina landed badly on her ankle and fell to the ground. Mickie James came over to defend her from Natalya and Victoria. The ref eventually called for a double DQ because of the melee and awarded both Raw & Smackdown draft picks.

Winners: No winners as match was ruled a double disqualification. Both Raw & Smackdown received draft picks.

#5 Draft pick: Smackdown drafts Jim Ross (from Raw).

#6 Draft pick: Raw drafts Michaels Cole (from Smackdown).

The two announcers with longtime tenure on the respective shows swapped places, as Cole took a seat next to Lawler and Jim Ross went to sit with Mick Foley. Ross seemed speechless at the latest move, with Michael Cole telling Lawler he called all but 2 matches on Smackdown for the past 10 years.

Raw returned with footage of Melina's injury. It appeared Melina hurt her ankle, then was helped to the back as two WWE officials carried her up the ramp.

The Great Khali came out to help Vince McMahon give away the next $100,000 prize. Vince announced Khali as a star of "Get Smart", then held up the new Rock 3 disc DVD. The first person called for the cash prize told Vince it was a wrong number, then hung up on him. The next caller won $100,000 and got an earful from Khali.

John Cena (Raw) vs. Edge (SM)

A longtime feud was reborn on Raw, as Edge and Cena faced off for the next draft pick. The match went back and forth, with each man attempting to finish off the other. Edge escaped several FU attempts and the STFU submission. The two ended up fighting on the outside. Cena was able to grab Edge up on his shoulders and began to walk up the steel steps. Edge slid off Cena, then tried to ram him into the steel post. Cena blocked the move then knocked Edge back to the outside. Cena barely got in the ring to beat the ref's 10 count, giving him the win.

After Cena's win for Raw, Batista came charging down to attack Edge outside the ring. The Animal brought Edge into the ring and kept the fight going, until Edge escaped up the ramp.

Winner: John Cena wins due to a countout of Edge.

#7 Draft pick: Raw drafted Batista (from Smackdown).
With Batista already in the ring, Cena gave him a look as did Edge who smiled at him from the top of the ramp.

Backstage, Edge was shown talking to Vickie Guerrero about how they won't have to worry about Batista on their show anymore. Vince McMahon came in and reminded them both that Batista will still challenge Edge for the title at Night of Champions. Vince added in that before the night's over, maybe Edge will be drafted to a new show. Vickie became upset at the idea with Edge trying to calm her down.

Tommy Dreamer (ECW) vs. MVP (SM)

Dreamer had momentum as he pounded away on MVP from the corner ropes. MVP was able to slip underneath Dreamer, then kicked his one leg, causing Dreamer to fall. Dreamer got up in the corner, but MVP was able to deliver a running kick to win it. Smackdown earned the next draft pick.

Winner: MVP wins via pinfall over Tommy Dreamer.

#8 Draft Pick: Smackdown drafted Umaga (from Raw).
The Samoan Bulldozer came down to the ring as Smackdown's newest member and attacked both Dreamer and Colin Delaney in the ring. Umaga did the hip splash on Dreamer in one corner, the na vicious side slam on Delaney.

JBL (Raw) vs. Kofi Kingston (ECW)

Kofi started to gain control of the match with his quickness and aerial moves. However, when Kofi jumped off the corner at JBL, JBL was able to swat him down from mid-air. JBL waited for Kofi to get up then hit the Clothesline from Hell off the ropes. JBL won Raw the #9 draft pick with the win.

Winner: JBL wins via pinfall over Kofi Kingston.

#9 Draft Pick: Raw drafted Kane (from ECW).
Kane came out to the top of the ramp with the ECW title, then made the corner ring posts explode with fire around JBL.

Mr. McMahon gave away another $100,000 cash prize. This time the winner was someone in attendance at Raw. A girl was shown on her cell phone who delivered the correct password to win.

Tri-Brand Battle Royal for 2 Draft Picks

Three teams of 5 wrestlers battled on behalf of Raw, ECW & Smackdown. For Raw it was Cena, HHH, CM Punk, Batista & Kane. For Smackdown it was Edge, Big Show, Great Khali, MVP & Jeff Hardy. Representing ECW were The Miz, John Morrison, Matt Hardy, Chavo Guerrero & Shelton Benjamin.

At one point in the match, it came down to a face off between ECW's Big Show and the Raw & Smackdown teams. Show was able to beat down all opponents who came at him, including Kane, Cena & Triple H. It came down to 4 members each from Smackdown and Raw, with just Matt Hardy and Chavo remaining for ECW's roster. Matt and Jeff Hardy went at it, with Jeff eventually kicking Matt off the apron.

Edge, Big Show and MVP remained for Smackdown, with Triple H, Batista, Jeff Hardy & Kane remaining for Raw. The battle continued as Triple H rammed Jeff Hardy off the side apron. A bloody Batista was able to spear down Edge, but was picked up by Big Show. Batista held on to Show who soon punched him down to the outside. Kane came up to Show and went for a chokeslam. Show blocked it and eventually hit Kane over the ropes. With Cena and Triple H remaining they went at Big Show. Show was able to get a double suplex and bring both men to the mat. Edge still remained laying in a corner of the ring. Triple H and Cena worked together and pushed Show over the top ropes. With Triple H looking out at Show, Cena clotheslined the Game over the top. Edge took advantage as Cena kept looking out at an angry HHH. Running over, Edge grabbed Cena and tossed him out over the ropes to win the match for Smackdown. Smackdown received the final 2 draft picks of the night.

Winner: Edge wins the tri-brand battle royal on behalf of Smackdown to earn the last 2 draft picks.

#10 Draft pick: Smackdown drafted Mr. Kennedy (from Raw).
Kennedy arrived to the top of the ramp and began pointing down at Edge in the ring. The next pick started up on the Titantron.

#11 Draft pick: Smackdown drafted Triple H (from Raw).
A shocked HHH began to point over at Cena after the announcement was made, still upset about what just went down in the ring.

Mr. McMahon gave away the night's final cash prize of $500,000! Vince congratulated the fan who was ecstatic. Suddenly out of nowhere, part of the Raw set fell to the top of the ramp near Mr. McMahon. Vince seemed startled but stayed over at the podium with the money. All of a sudden, part of the ramp gave way, and Mr. McMahon fell down with the box of cash. Vince got to his feet, but a part of the scaffolding suddenly fell and came down on top of where Vince was. Triple H, John Cena, Edge and other wrestlers and staff rushed over to help. Eventually, Vince was strapped to a stretcher with a neck brace. Mr. McMahon was moving and responding by speaking to staff as they pushed the stretcher out and Raw ended.

Raw Recap 06.16.08

Raw Recap from Salt Lake City, Utah

Raw opened with John Cena arriving to the ring to loud fanfare from the crowd. Cena spoke about the various moments in history that all fans remember, such as Hulk Hogan slamming Andre the Giant, or Stone Cold giving his first ass whooping. Triple H interrupted Cena's speech to come to the ring and confront Cena for costing him the match vs. Jeff Hardy last week. Cena threw it back at HHH for tripping him on the commentators' table. The two continued trash talking and Cena shoved HHH. Both men got ready to fight. All of a sudden, Vince McMahon showed up on the ramp and sent a referee down to the ring. Vince told Cena he'll be fighting, but not against HHH tonight. Instead, VInce told Cena he gets to open Raw by facing Umaga in a Street Fight. HHH got on the mic and wished Cena good luck before his exit.

John Cena vs. Umaga
Street Fight

In the vicious match, the action spilled outside the ring then back inside. At one point Cena used a mic to hit Umaga on the head. Cena kept trying to finish off Umaga to no avail. Finally, Umaga had Cena down and grabbed some steel steps. As Umaga went to hit Cena, Cena avoided him and scored the FU to get the pinfall victory.

Winner: John Cena wins via pinfall over Umaga.

Vince McMahon awarded $125,000, the first cash prize of the night to a man in Virginia Beach, Virginia. The password for Raw's giveaway was "Watch Raw and Win". Vince then introduced a diva bikini contest, and Maria and Eve arrived to the ring.

Summertime Beach Bikini Blowout

An in-ring diva bikini contest was held with Charlie Haas as the host. Last week, Charlie kissed WWE diva Maria on the ramp to help a viewer win extra prize money. Haas was then attacked by Mae Young who continued to tackle him and kiss him to the ground.

In tonight's bikini contest, Layla, Lena Yada, Eve Torres, Melina, Maryse, Jillian and Maria competed. Each diva removed their robe to reveal a bikini, then danced for the crowd. Jillian grabbed the mic from Charlie Haas on her turn and told the crowd they were there to hear her sing. Jillian began screeching out a tune, then Haas grabbed the mic back to continue the contest. Eve went next followed by Maria. Haas asked the crowd to cheer as judges for each diva, and Maria received the loudest cheers, making her the winner.

Winner: Maria wins the Summertime Bikini Beach Blowout.

After the divas contest, Vince McMahon dialed up another Raw viewer and gave them $100,000. The divas danced in the ring to celebrate.

When Raw returned from a break, Chris Jericho was shown backstage oiling himself up and talking to a WWE female staff member. Jim Ross introduced highlights of last week's "Highlight Reel" on Raw where Jericho attacked Shawn Michaels during the show. Jericho kicked Michaels in the groin for a low blow, then later smashed Michaels face first int othe flat screen TV in the ring. JR said later tonight Jericho will explain his actions.

Vince McMahon was at the top of the ramp for another giveaway and called Hacksaw Jim Duggan out. Duggan came out in a tuxedo with his 2x4. Vince attempted to dial a viewer, but their voicemail picked up, so he left then a message they just missed $50,000. Vince dialed the next person and awarded $50,000, then had the person give a Hacksaw "Hooo!" imitation.

Jeff Hardy vs. Carlito

Highlights shown from last week where Jeff leapt over the top rope to crash down on both Cena and Triple H. Jeff was coming off the win against Triple H last week, thanks to Cena's interference. In tonight's match vs. Carlito, Jeff went to the corner ropes and jumped off towards Carlito. Carlito avoided him, but Jeff landed on his feet. Since Jeff had his back to Carlito, Carlito went for the Backstabber. Jeff countered and hit Twist of Fate to plant Carlito to the mat. Jeff followed with a Swanton Bomb for the pinfall victory.

Winner: Jeff Hardy wins via pinfall over Carlito.

At the top of the ramp, Vince McMahon dialed up another Raw viewer in Minnesota and gave them $125,000, then had them sing a few lines of the National Anthem. The caller told Vince that Night of Champions is on his birthday, and Vince gave a strange look before hanging up.

Chris Jericho came down to the ring to discuss his actions last week on the Highlight Reel. Jericho had the footage shown again of his attack on Shawn Michaels in the ring. Jericho told the fans the reason he did it is because of the fans. Y2J said the fans cheer a coward and backstabber like HBK, yet when Jericho does the right thing and is honest they boo him. Jericho said now Michaels will pay for the fans' sins and the fans have Michaels' blood on their hands. As Jericho continued to disrespect and trash talk about Michaels in the ring, a huge suprise occurred as Ric Flair's music came on. The Natureboy came out to the ramp and down to the ring. Since there was a commercial break, Jim Ross informed the audience at home that Flair received a 3 and a half minute standing ovation.

In the ring, Flair yelled at Jericho for insulting Michaels and attacking him last week. Flair said he's now retired but that won't stop him from fighting Jericho. Flair challenged Jericho to a fight in the parking lot. Flair exited up the ramp removing his suit jacket, with Jericho following him. The two went backstage. Flair went out an Exit door to leave the arena. Jericho opened the door to follow him out, but stopped in his tracks. Jericho stood for a moment then backed up, as HHH was there. HHH told Jericho he's been waiting for an opportunity to face Y2J in a match ever since the "Save US" campaign. Jericho backed away and left the area.

Raw returned from a commercial to find Ric Flair yelling at HHH for getting involved in his situation with Jericho. Vince McMahon walked up and shook Flair's hand, then told him he's a great ambassador, but no longer a wrestler. Vince had security come by and had Flair leave the arena, despite fans booing loudly. HHH asked Vince what his problem is. Vince told HHH he will have the problem, because tonight HHH will face Jericho in the main event.

Cryme Tyme vs. Rhodes & Holly

In a very quick match, Ted Dibiase Jr. came down the ramp just as the bell was ringing. Cryme Tyme became distracted as they looked out towards Dibiase. With JTG's back turned, Hardcore Holly was able to roll him up for a very quick pinfall victory.

Winners: Rhodes & Holly win via pinfall over Cryme Tyme.

Vince McMahon awarded a North Carolina Raw viewer the next prize. Vince told her in honor of Ric Flair's 16 times as champ, she won an astounding $16!

WWE Rewind showed highlights of last week's match between Paul Burchill and Mr. Kennedy. Kennedy scored the Mic Check for the win, but was confronted by Katie Lea afterwards. Katie ended up slapping Kennedy. While he became upset, Paul Burchill attacked Kennedy from behind and used his finisher.

Mickie James & Mr. Kennedy vs. Paul Burchill & Katie Lea

In a mixed tag match, Mickie James seemed to gain control against Katie Lea. Paul Burchill came over on the apron to try to help Katie out, but Mr. Kennedy entered the ring, ran and speared Burchill outside through the ropes. With both men outside, Mickie went to the corner to jump at Katie. Mickie missed the jump at Katie who was able to grab her and score a backbreaker for the pinfall victory. JR remarked that Katie has now beaten Mickie James two times.

Winner: Paul Burchill & Katie Lea win via pinfall over Mr. Kennedy & Mickie James.

Vince McMahon phoned a female Raw viewer from Illinois and awarded her $174,984, after she told Vince he is the most handsome of all WWE superstars.

Raw returned from commercial break with Mr. McMahon up at the top of the ramp. This time Vince called a New York resident watching Raw and gave him $75,000.

Jim Ross and Jerry Lawler discussed the Night of Champions card including the recently announced match for the tag team titles with Hornswoggle & Finlay facing the Miz & John Morrison. Also included will be Michaels vs. Jericho for the IC title, Cena vs. HHH for the WWE title and Batista vs. Edge for the World Heavyweight.

Triple H shown leaving his locker room backstage en route to the next match. Cena was waiting for him and told him "good luck and don't get hurt out there".

Vince McMahon awarded the night's final prize, a grand prize of $300,000 to a man in New Jersey. Vince said he's decided to give away another $1 million dollars on next week's 3 hour Raw for the WWE draft.

Chris Jericho vs. Triple H

In a battle of the WWE champ against the Intercontinental champ, both men gave it their all for the main event. Jericho countered a Pedigree. Jericho was able to hit HHH onto the side apron then went to jump off the ropes for a kick. HHH ducked and Jericho flew to the outside. The two began to brawl outside the ring. All of a sudden, Lance Cade came charging down the ramp and attacked HHH. He and Jericho tossed the Game back in the ring and continued the beatdown. The crowd began to roar as John Cena came rushing down into the ring to save HHH. Cena punched down Jericho then tossed Cade out of the ring. Cena threw Jericho out next. Triple H got up and tackled Cena thinking he was there to attack him. As the two fought, Jericho and Cade re-entered the ring. Cade used a vicious powerbomb like move to slam Cena flat to the mat. Jericho used the Codebreaker on Triple H to lay him out as well. As Raw ended, Jericho stood in the ring applauding the work of Lance Cade and grinning. Cena and HHH both lay flat on the mat as the show ended.

Million Dollar Media & Raw Ratings

According to the Baltimore Sun, this past Monday night Raw's "Million Dollar Mania" was a ratings bust, despite the idea that anyone tuning in could win big money from Vince McMahon.

Kevin Eck of the Sun reports:

The 3.0 rating for last night’s Raw has to be considered a major disappointment for WWE. Despite news conferences and press releases, McMahon’s Million Dollar Mania did not deliver the expected spike in the ratings. In fact, the rating dropped slightly from last week’s 3.1.

I have to say that I’m surprised. While the money giveaway did not make for compelling television, I thought for sure that the prospect of winning large sums of cash would lure viewers who wouldn’t normally watch Raw or just watched occasionally. I guess it really isn’t all about the “mon-aaayy.”

Read more about Kevin's theory as to why the Raw ratings were so bad here.

And there's more media coverage of the Million Dollar Mania. Meadville Tribune has a story about the 33 year old man who won $51,998. Will Franks was the winner, and according to the article he had been phoned by WWE prior to Mr. McMahon's live call on the air. So be sure to have your phone lines open around 9PM EST for your chance to win!

Read the full story about Will Franks here.

Make sure to head over to WWE.com and register so you can be qualified for a cash prize this coming Monday on Raw!

Million Dollar Mistake?

While Monday Night Raw saw 5 lucky viewers take home cash prizes (from $2 to $250,000), it may have done more to irritate the loyal and faithful fans or even drive away new ones. Rating may also help tell the truth. The giveaway moments consisted of Mr. McMahon standing at the top of the ramp, dialing phone numbers on a speaker phone and awaiting viewers to answer their phones. Contestants had to give the "WWE Universe" code to win that "mon-ey". These spots killed time on the show and possibly bored the live audience in attendance and at home. The help of Charlie Haas, Maria, Mae Young and Cryme Tyme didn't seem like it was enough to carry the bits either. They aren't improv comedians so much, and Raw is far from a telethon. WWE, take note: change the format for next Monday to impress new viewers with the Raw product.

As for the rest of the program, we saw a buildup to Night of Champions. HHH and Cena interfered in each others' matches, causing the feud to escalate. JBL took on Cena, with Cena playing possum well in the ring. As JBL came in to grab Cena, Cena was the one to surprise JBL and roll him up for a smart pinfall. After the win, HHH held his title up on the commentators' table. Cena got up to face him, but as the Game jumped down, he also tripped Cena, causing him to fall on the table. Later in the night, Cena got his revenge, but only after HHH threw Jeff Hardy at him. While Hunter faced Jeff Hardy in the main event, Cena interfered and pulled the Game off the apron, causing HHH to lose by countout. Jeff Hardy had the last laugh as Cena & HHH faced each other outside the ring. Hardy crashed down in a heap on both men, perhaps leading to a Triple Threat or tag team match in the near future.

Other matches saw the Burchill-Kennedy feud escalate as well. Both wrestlers seem like capable Intercontinental title holders right now. But as for that title, it appears we're going to get a continuation of Shawn Michaels vs. Jericho. They've provided some great matches already and have fans on both sides. Could make for a great feud, and another HBK title win.

For next week, the WWE should consider having the million dollar giveaway calls backstage, just like the other promo skits. Mr. McMahon obviously wanted to convey the "this is really happening" feel, but he could make it even better. Backstage, have actual divas and wrestlers making these calls to award fans the prizes, then air the footage on the Titantron. The calls could even play into current stories, such as Ted Dibiase Jr., or the Michaels vs. Jericho. Otherwise, new fans tuning into Raw won't be impressed by seeing Mr. McMahon on the ramp listening to Billy Ocean answer tones, while waiting for a random WWE fan to pickup the phone.

Mr. McMahon gave away the night's second cash prize of $75, 000.

Raw Rewind showed John Cena's victory over Jeff Hardy on last week's show. Cena now moves on as #1 contender to face Triple H at Night of Champions.

Cena and HHH stood face to face backstage and hyped their match which is in 3 weeks. Cena was about to bring up beating HHH at Wrestlemania 22 but HHH interrupted to say he's the champ now. Cena and HHH wished each other luck with their matches tonight.

Mr. McMahon had CHarlie Haas at the top of the ramp to help with the next giveaway. Vince dialed the next person 3 times but couldn't reach them. Vince awarded a prize of $50,000 cash, but told Charlie Haas if he kisses a diva he'll give the winner $100,000. Maria was brought onto the top of the ramp and Haas gave her a kiss. Vince had another diva brought out, except this time it was Mae Young. Mae kissed Charlie until he almost passed out on the ramp. Mae continued to kiss Charlie and tackle him.

Backstage, JBL said "you people don't deserve Mr. McMahon's money", JBL added that John Cena deserves everything he's about to give him.

JBL vs. John Cena

Triple H came to the commentator's table prior to the match to observe Cena in action. It was announced there will be a Million Dollar Mania press conference Thursday in NYC.

During the match, JBL came to the outside to confront HHH. HHH told JBL that Cena has a stronger desire to be champ than JBL does. JBL tried to wear Cena down in the ring using a submission hold and a boot to the face. Cena made a comeback, eventually slamming JBL down to the mat, then delivering Five Knuckle Shuffle. JBL was able to escape the FU attempt, and both men hit the mat. JBL went to the outside and pulled apart the commentator's table as if he was going to use it. With Cena still laying in the ring, JBL re-entered. JBL went over to Cena, but Cena was playing possum. Cena grabbed JBL and rolled him up for a pin to win it. After Cena's win, Triple H got up on the commentators table and held up his WWE title. Cena went over and got on the table as well. HHH hopped off the table after the staredown, then tripped Cena, causing him to fall back. Triple H exited up the ramp with his WWE title.

Winner: John Cena wins via pinfall over JBL.

Mr. McMahon gave away the next prize of $98,000 to a lucky Raw viewer.

Chris Jericho's Highlight Reel

Jericho had Shawn Michaels as his special guest on the Highlight Reel. Y2J introduced Michaels as his childhood idol, a mentor and now a new friend. Jericho told Michaels he's proud of his efforts from the Stretcher match at One Night Stand. Michaels asked Jericho if he had a question for him. HBK said technically the only person he lied to was Y2J about faking the knee injury. Jericho said it seems the WWE fans would rather boo him, an honest man, and cheer for HBK's "fast ones". Y2J asked HBK how he became such a lying, cheating, pathetic worm. Jericho didn't even give HBK time to answer before punching him. The two went down to the mat fighting. HBK seemed to gain an advantage and shoved Jericho to the corner. As HBK charged him, Jericho delivered a low blow kick which dropped Michaels. Michaels tried to get up and Y2J shoved him. Jericho stood Michaels up, then smashed him face first into the Highlight Reel flat screen TV. Michaels was left down in the ring as Jericho walked up the ramp angrily.

Cody Rhodes & Hardcore Holly vs. Snitsky & Umaga

In the matchup, the tag team champs were pushed past their limits. The Samoan Bulldozer was able to catch Cody Rhodes with a sideslam. With Hardcore Holly still knocked out in the corner, Umaga delivered the Samoan Spike to Rhodes, then took the pin.

As Hardcore Holly helped Rhodes in the ring, Ted Dibiase Jr. came to the ramp. Dibiase reminded the tag champs that he'll be choosing a partner to face them at Night of Champions. Dibiase said ever since his announcement, Rhodes & Holly haven't seemed to be on the same page. Dibiase told them their time as champions is running out and the moment he becomes a title holder will be "priceless".

Winners: Snitsky & Umaga win via pinfall over Rhodes & Holly.

A sing-off went down between Trevor Murdoch & Jillian Hall in the ring. Trevor got the crowd clapping then started to sing a country tune. Jillian interrupted and said everyone's there to hear her sing tonight. Jillian began to sing in her screeching voice. Mr. McMahon thanked Jillian, interrupting her. Vince gave away the next cash prize of only $2 to the winner. Vince called another Raw viewer and awarded them $200,000.

Cryme Tyme vs. Santino & Carlito

Prior to the match highlights were shown of Cousin Sal beating Santino on Smackdown last Friday. After the match, Jimmy Kimmel booked Sal in his next match against Big Show. Sal was heard getting beat up backstage by Show.

In the match, Big Chad landed a powerslam on Santino Marella. Carlito ran in to break p the pinfall. Carlito then tried to toss JTG over the top rope. JTG laned on his feet on the side apron and began to dance, causing Carlito to rush at him. JTG pulled the top rope down causing Carlito to spill out of the ring. As JTG worked on Carlito outside, Big Chad was able to slam Santino to the mat for the pinfall.

Winners: Cryme Tyme wins via pinfall over Carlito & Santino.

Mr. McMahon called Cryme Tyme up to the ramp for the next giveaway. The Raw viewer won $51,998 for giving the correct password. Vince & Cryme Tyme gave a "Money Money" chant with the crowd to the winner. Vince said the final winner tonight will get $250,000.

Jeff Hardy vs. Triple H

John Cena joined JR & Lawler at the commentators table for the main event.

In a hardfought match, Hardy and HHH went at it, eventually spilling outside the ring. Triple H went over and tossed Hardy right onto Cena. As Hardy crashed down, Cena fell back in his chair near the crowd barrier. Triple H took Hardy and quickly tossed him back into the ring as the ref counted. As the Game went to re-enter from the apron, Cena grabbed HHH and pulled him down to the outside. With HHH down, the ref continued the countout, eventually giving Hardy the win. Triple H staggered to his feet after the loss and faced Cena. The two were about to go at it, but Jeff Hardy launched himself over the top rope and crashed onto them.

Winner: Jeff Hardy wins via countout over Triple H.

Mr. McMahon gave away the night's final cash prize of $250,000 to a lucky viewer who gave the "WWE Universe" password. Vince said he'll give away another total of $1 million on next week's show. To register for the contest, everyone can head over to WWE.com then watch Raw for the special password.

Raw Preview 06.08.08

Last week's Raw saw a new #1 contender named to face Triple H at Night of Champions. After a hard-fought main event match, John Cena was able to defeat Jeff Hardy and will become The Game's new challenger. Now both Triple H and Cena will need to prepare himself for the battle. What will both men have to say on Raw and will they have any matches to prepare them?

The runner-up to Cena was Jeff Hardy in the contender's match. Hardy is coming off the loss, but still looking to keep himself in the title hunt. Will he shift his focus to a different title such as the Intercontinental belt?

Chris Jericho has also declared he will begin defending his Interontinental title on a more frequent basis. Last week Jericho was able to fight off JBL and retain his title. Who will Jericho face on tonight's show, or will he save his next match for Night of Champions? Will someone new come forth to challenge Y2J?

Tonight also marks the first ever giveaway for Million Dollar Mania! Fans can still register themselves for cash prizes over at WWE.com. How many winners will tonight see for McMahon's millions? Will you be the lucky winner?

Diva Championship & Tag Team Titles

Last night on Smackdown amongst all the celebrating of Edge's latest title win, General Manager Vickie Guerrero also added a new title to the WWE. Vickie declared that it's not right for only Raw to have a Women's championship. So Vickie unveiled that a new Diva title has been created. Last night a Golden Dreams match was held to find the first competitor for the new title. Competing in the match were almost all the divas from ECW & Smackdown. Sideline divas Lena Yada & Eve Torres stayed out of it, for good reason But Natalya, Michelle McCool, Cherry, Kelly Kelly, Layla, Victoria and Maryse all went at it, trying to get a Golden Star. It looked like Michelle McCool was going to grab the star hanging up on the pole in the ring corner. However, the newest and baddest of divas, Natalya was able to slam both Michelle and Victoria from the corner to the mat, then retrieve the hanging star. Natalya will be one competitor for the newest Diva title, most likely at Night of Champions. But who will her opponent be?

Michelle McCool seems like the obvious choice, but not with a WWE draft pending. Anyone from Raw could make the move to Smackdown. Since Mickie currently holds the Women's title it's hard to see her leaving the show. Maria may make for a new candidate to make the shift to Smackdown. With her recent popularity in Playboy and Maxim among other magazines, she would be a good fit for a Diva's title chase. Most of the more talented divas are heels, so possibly Melina shifts over to Smackdown to face Natalya for the title. So Michelle McCool, Melina or Maria are the best guesses as to who faces Natalya for this new title. The diva champ will likely be Natalya or Michelle, depending on how it plays out, but Natalya seems to be Smackdown's version of Beth Phoenix. No matter what, hopefully the title generates some more interest in the divas division.

Speaking of titles, there's the recent claims made by one Ted Dibiase, Jr. that he will become a tag team champion very soon into his WWE career. We've yet to see him wrestle anyone and he doesn't even have a tag partner. There's been speculation that the whole Million Dollar Giveaway is in fact a ploy by the Million Dollar Man. The idea is he supplied the cash to Mr. McMahon in exchange for favoritism for his son in the tag division. So who will the lucky tag partner be? Don't expect it to be Cousin Sal. Again, the WWE draft is a perfect opportunity to find him an interesting teammate. A far out idea would be for CM Punk to shift over to Raw's roster. The team of Million Dollar Man Jr and Mr. Money in the Bank has a nice ring to it. Additionally, Punk's been on a losing streak, and he needs to turn heel to take on HHH for the WWE title.

As for the other tag team title on Smackdown it's starting to look like a possible Finlay/Hornswoggle title win? This could come at Night of Champions. Would make for an interesting new angle, but easily allows the titles to transition once the squirt gun antics run out.

Feel free to comment below regarding the brand new Diva title and who you think Ted Dibiase Jr. will team up with!
