RAW Recap 4.07.09 from Penn State University
Coach already in ring, introduced the ECW champ Mr. McMahon to the crowd. Vince took the mic saying he not only comes to the ring as ECW champ and chairman of the board. Vince presented to the crowd how Great Khali destroyed 4 men on last week's RAW; Shawn Michaels, Edge & Randy Orton backstage, and then John Cena in the ring. Vince then began to announce the main event for this month's Judgement Day, until HBK came onto the ramp and interrupted. HBK reminded Vince he was supposed to face Cena last week and become #1 contender, until Great Khali attacked him. Shawn said he still wants to earn the title shot, so he asked Vince to put him in a match one on one with the Great Khali, tonight. Vince said tonight, Shawn will face Great Khali one on one in a No DQ match, with the winner going on to Judgement Day to face Cena.
Vince then started to talk about his ECW title, until Bobby Lashley interrupted, coming down to the ring. Lashley said Vince gave HBK what he wanted, now he should give him what he wants. Vince reminded Lashley if he lays a hand on him, Shane or Umaga, he will never get the ECW title again. Vince rolled footage of Backlash, where the 3 men destroyed Lashley together allowing Vince to get the pinfall victory and ECW title. Vince then taunted Lashley to try to get him to hit him. Vince showed a copy of a new WWE magazine on the Titantron, which was entitled "Kings of the Ring" and showed Lashley, Cena and Undertaker all holding the titles. Vince said the magazine was an error and then had them change it to show Vince's face on Lashley's body. Vince then announced at Judgement Day a repeat match, Lashley vs. Vince McMahon, Shane McMahon and Umaga for the ECW title. Vince taunted Lashley a bit more before leaving the ring. Coach about to exit as well until Lashley grabbed him by the pants. Lashley then clotheslined down Coach and began to punch away at him, with Vince looking on from the ramp. Lashley threw Coach out of the ring, then went out and slammed Coach's head into the steel steps, and choked him with a microphone wire. Lashley signaled to Vince that he was next. Lashley went back out of the ring and speared Coach who had just stood up.
Mickie James backstage went to the Diva locker room, where Candice Michelle was adjusting her top. Mickie told her they are next and Candice asked for help hooking the back strap to her top. The two girls then exited the locker room on their way to the ring for a match.
Mickie James & Candice Michelle vs. Victoria and Melina - Candice started off vs Victoria, with Victoria kicking her opponnent down, then picking her back up and trying to throw her off the ropes. Candice able to counter and knock Victoria down into her corner, causing her to tag in Melina. Candice tagged Mickie in who went to town on Melina, then tagged Candice back in. Melina able to get Candice up on her shoulders and when the ref turned his attention away, Victoria grabbed Candice's head and pulled her down onto the top rope. Candice able to recover and tag her partner back in, who then cleared the ring of Victoria and focused on Melina. Candice back into action was able to use a spinning kick to the head of Melina, allowing her to pin Melina for the victory.
Chris Masters vs Santino Morella - Santino's 1st Intercontinental Championship match came against the Masterlock technician, Chris Masters. Masters able to use his strength advantage early to knock down Santino. Morella able to take a slight advantage and came off the ropes with an elbow to knock down Masters for a pin attempt. Masters recovered and clotheslined Morella down, then started an assault on the IC champ, including an elbow onto Morella's neck as he lay over the apron. Morella able to gain another advantage and kick Masters in the head. Morella used a neckbreaker on Masters to counter a move. Masters able to toss Morella to the corner. Morella then avoided a charging Masters, and was able to roll up Masters for a seated pin to retain his title. Morella ran up the ramp celebrating with the IC title
Mr. Kennedy came on to the ramp where his microphone came down for him. Kennedy told the crowd there are 328 days til Wrestlemania 24, when he cashes in the briefcase title shot and becomes a new champ.
Maria backstage to interview Randy Orton. Maria asked Orton about his match tonight with Cena. Orton said he will beat Cena tonight and it won't take him an hour. Orton said tonight he gets his career and pursuit of the WWE title back on track.
The Highlanders vs. Umaga (2 on 1 Handicap Match) - Rorey and Robby tried to doubleteam Umaga from the start, but the Samoan Bulldozer easily knocked the 2 men down. With Rorey in the corner, Umaga charged at him and smashed into him hip first. Umaga then used a "Samoan Spike" to the throat of each Highlander, then put them on top of each other in the center of the ring. Umaga climbed the ropes and dove off to splash on top of the 2 men. Umaga then pinned them both for the victory in a quick match.
Great Khali seen backstage walking on the way to come out for his match with HBK.
Edge backstage walked up to Mr. Kennedy saying he was sick of HBK having a title opportunity match tonight. Edge said he's sick of Mr. Kennedy talking about becoming the champ on his show. Edge challenged Mr. Kennedy to put his title shot on the line vs Edge. Kennedy agreed to the match vs Edge tonight and said he would leave as "Mr. Money in the Bank".
Shawn Michaels vs. The Great Khali (No DQ match)- HBK ran at Khali as he tried to get into the ring, but Khali pushed him back. HBK able to keep attacking and Khali got his arms stuck in the ropes, allowing HBK to start punching away. The ref broke things up and Khali escaped the ropes. Khali then with a huge boot to the face of HBK. Khali slammed HBK down. Khali then tried for an elbow drop but HBK moved away, rolling out of the ring. HBK grabbed a steel chair and got back in the ring as Khali sat up. HBK delivered a shot to the head of Khali with the chair, then ran off the ropes at him to keep him down. HBK got on the top rope and did a flying elbow drop onto the giant Khali. HBK set up the Sweet Chin Music, but as he went at Khali, Khali grabbed Michaels' leg, then chopped him down. Khali then continued to assault HBK with clotheslines, kicks and chops to his body. HBK able to counter a Khali move near the ropes and grab Khali's neck. HBK started to choke out Khali and pulled him down over the ropes. HBK in ring ran off the ropes and dropkicked Khali down outside the ring. HBK then tried to remove the announcers table items and suplex or DDT Khali. Khali was too strong for HBK, and countered, slamming HBK through the announce table. As HBK lay in a heap, the ref rang the bell announcing The Great Khali as winner and #1 contender.
Todd Grisham asked John Cena what he thinks of the new contender Great Khali. Cena told Grisham he doesn't back down from any challenge, even if it's Khali. Cena said tonight he has Randy Orton who picked the wrong guy to revive his career against.
Cryme Time backstage in front of the trunk to an open HUM-V. Cryme Time presented an infomercial for Mother's Day items. They suggested giving mom a big juicy steak, and then footage was shown of Viscera about to eat a dinner, removing the lid and finding his steak missing. Cryme Time showed prescription meds as an option, and it cut to a scene of Eugene in the back locker room going crazy looking for his missing pills. Cryme Time suggested giving your mom a brand new Hummer, then a scene was shown with Ron Simmons walking out in the parking lot with keys to an empty parking spot. Simmons used his expression "DAMN!" once he saw his Hummer missing. A fat Spiderman then came up to Cryme Time and said it looked like they were up to no good. The Spiderman asked who they think they are, and Cryme Time then introduced themselves and gave the fake Spidey a beatdown, then stole his wallet.
Matt & Jeff Hardy vs. World's Greatest Tag Team - Cade & Murdoch at the announce table again to watch the Hardys in action. Matt Hardy took over early on Shelton, climbing the ropes with Shelton down. Shelton able to stun Matt, and when the ref became distracted Charlie Haas came over from the side and yanked on Matt's arm. Haas & Benjamin in the ring started to focus on the injured left arm of Matt Hardy. Matt Hardy finally able to escape from his opponents and tag in his brother. Jeff came in the ring and was able to slam down Haas, then Benjamin on top of him. As Benjamin rolled out of the ring, Hardy tried to cover Haas but failed . Haas threw Jeff to the ropes, but Jeff able to do a Whisper in the Wind into Haas. Hardy with a pin, but Benjamin came in for the save. Matt Hardy then got back into action and did a Twist of Fate on Benjamin. Jeff Hardy climbed the ropes, but Haas went to challenge him. Matt Hardy then assisted with a slam on Haas, allowing Jeff to do a Swanton Bomb off the top turnbuckle. Hardys score the pinfall victory. Cade & Murdoch then entered the ring and offered a handshake to the Hardys. The Hardys were reluctant at first, then gave in and shook hands. Cade & Murdoch left the ring clapping for the Hardys and encouraging the crowd to do the same.
Replay seen of Carlito turning on his friend and mentor, Ric Flair, on last week's RAW. Carlito seen walking backstage with Torrie trailing behind looking worried. King and JR said Carlito would be out to address the crowd and Flair next.
Carlito came down to the ring with Torrie Wilson. Carlito told the crowd Flair tainted his record and cost him the entry to the Money in the Bank Ladder match at Wrestlemania. Carlito told the crowd he took care of Flair last week and would again this week. Carlito called out Flair, but JR and King noted Flair was currently in Las Vegas, which Carlito also knew. Carlito said Flair had no guts. Carlito said he needed to rid himself of all the garbage around him. Carlito then told Torrie that included her and began to yell at her in spanish. Carlito backed Torrie into a corner, causing her to shove Carlito then roll out of the ring. Torrie, visibly upset, stormed up the ramp and backstage, as Carlito continued to yell at her and the crowd in Spanish.
Edge vs. Mr. Kennedy (for Money in the Bank title shot)-As Mr. Kennedy coming down to the ring, Edge attacked from behind, hammering down Kennedy on the ramp. Edge tossed Kennedy into the audience barrier and the ring post. Edge then used a ring monitor TV to hit Kennedy on the head as the bell still hadn't rung. Once both men were in the ring, the ref went over to Kennedy in 1 corner asking if he still wanted the match to start. Kennedy, angrily yelled for the ref to start the match. Kenndy charged at Edge, but Edge then speared Kennedy down fast, and scored a pinfall victory. Edge grabbed the briefcase as he is now Mr Money in the Bank. Edge with an evil look on his face smashed the briefcase over Kennedy's head twice. As Kennedy lay in the ring after the assault, Edge held the briefcase up high on the top of the ramp.
Randy Orton vs. John Cena- Orton with the early advantage, but Cena able to score a suplex on his opponent. After a failed pin, Cena tossed Orton to the corner, then ran at him, Orton moved and Cena hit his shoulder into the ring post. Orton began kicking Cena while he was down. Orton put a sleeper style hold on Cena while down on the mat. Cena struggled but got to his feet, although Orton tightened his grip. Once Cena escaped the hold Cena used the ropes to gain advantage flying into Orton. Cena knocked Orton down then went for a "5 knuckle shuffle". After landing the move, Great Khali began to walk down the ramp. Khali walked around the ring as Cena had just hoisted Orton up for the F-U. Khali then picked up Cena's title and began to walk back up the ramp. Cena dropped Orton and began yelling to Khali. As Orton tried to attack Cena, Cena tripped him down and locked the "STFU" on Orton. Cena then released the hold and exited the ring to run up the ramp at Khali who was still carrying Cena's title. Cena grabbed Khali from behind, but the giant turned and hit Cena over the head with his title. Cena lay knocked out on the ramp as Khali raised his arms with the WWE title. No winner announced to the match, although a countout would seem to be the verdict.
