A recap of Smackdown from Birmingham, AL 05/04/07
Cole and JBL discussed Backlash and the Last Man Standing match between Undertaker and Batista, along with fan commentary about the match. There was no clear winner, as both Undertaker and Batista remained down for a 10 count after crashing off the top of the ramp.
Boogeyman vs. William Regal -Boogeyman came down to the ramp with Lil' Boogeyman. Early on Boogeyman took a slight advantage, until Dave Taylor stood on the side apron. Boogeyman went to clothesline Taylor who moved, allowing Regal to kick down Boogeyman as he turned to face him. Regal then tossed Boogey out of the ring. Boogeyman returned to the ring for more punishment from Regal. Boogeyman started to retake control momentarily after a boot to the face on a charging Regal. Boogeyman was able to lift Regal up and slam him down on his back for his finisher. Before he could score a 3 count pinfall, Dave Taylor was in the ring to break it up. Boogeyman won by a DQ. Little Boogeyman entered the ring with a handful of worms, but Taylor knocked him down as well. As the 2 men attempted to take advantage and beatdown Boogeyman, an explosion erupted and Kane came down the ramp. Kane chased the two men into the crowd, as Boogeyman tended to the fallen Little Boogeyman.
Replay highlights shown from the 3 on 1 handicap match for the ECW title at Backlash, where Vince McMahon emerged as the new ECW World champion.
Teddy Long backstage with Dustin Rhodes talking about interviewing to be his assistant. Rhodes joked he was there for Teddy's job because he isn't nobody's assistant. Teddy joked back as Rhodes exited, with MVP entering the office. MVP began to complain about being robbed at Backlash of the US title. Teddy said MVP isnt going to sit around just collecting money on Smackdown, so tonight he can face an old friend in Kane. The winner will get to compete with Chris Benoit for the US Championship.
Brian Kendrick (w/Paul London) vs. Domino (w/Cherry and Deuce) - London still unable to compete due to his bruised ribs. Ashley also missing due to her leg injury at the hands of Jillian. Domino and Kendrick grappled early, putting arm holds on each other, until Domino could toss Kendrick to the ropes. Kendrick capitalized with a series of dropkicks, then clotheslined Domino over the ropes out of the ring. Kendrick then ran off the ropes and jumped over the ropes, crashing onto Domino outside the ring. Kendrick tossed Domino back in and went to get back in the ring, but Cherry/Deuce distracted him, and Domino was able to knock Kendrick off the apron. Back in the ring, Kendrick took abuse from Domino, who used his strength advantage. As Domino jumped off the top ropes, Kendrick able to put a boot to his face, then Kendrick used his speed to quicken the pace of the match. As Deuce got on the side apron to distract Kendrick, Paul London came over to knock him off. Deuce pushed London down to the outside of the ring instead. Just then Kendrick grabbed Domino and ran at the side apron, kicking Deuce off, and landing a finisher move on Deuce. Kendrick wins via 3 count pinfall.
Mr. Kennedy vs Matt Hardy- Mr. Kennedy arrived to the ring, briefcase in hand, and took the mic from above to inform the crowd there are 331 days until Wrestlemania 24. Kennedy said he will become the new champion when he cashes in his Money in the Bank title shot then. Early on, Hardy able to take Kennedy down to the mat with a headlock. Kennedy got back to his feet and tossed Hardy to the ropes, but Hardy knocked Kennedy down off the ropes. Hardy back in control kept Kenendy's arm behind his back for a bit. The two exchanged this hold on each other, until Kennedy got Matt into the corner and started kicking him while down. As Kennedy went to lift Hardy up for a slam, Hardy able to counter, tossing Kennedy out of the ring. Back in ring, Hardy able to jump off the corner ropes and land an elbow on Kennedy's head.
Kennedy with a bloody nose, able to regain control off the ropes and knock Hardy down. Hardy tossed Kennedy out of the ring and followed after, to attack him near the crowd barrier. As Hardy grabbed Kennedy's leg at the barrier, Kennedy used his free leg to kick Hardy back sending him crashing into the steel steps. Back in the ring, the two men exchanged punches, until Kennedy again took down Hardy off the ropes. Kennedy able to ram his knee into Hardy's face near the ropes, twice. Kennedy attempted 3 pins. Hardy and Kennedy managed to collide sending both men down. Kennedy started to crawl towards his briefcase. Hardy seeing this ran over and dropkicked the briefcase off the apron. The 2 men exchanged pinfall attempts on each other several times. Hardy went for a Twist of Fate, but Kennedy countered and hoisted Hardy up on his shoulders, then slammed him down. A failed pinfall attempt by Kennedy, who then climbed the ropes for a Canton Bomb. As Kennedy flipped down onto Hardy, Hardy put his knees up. Hardy then did a leg drop off the ropes onto Kennedy, and tried a pinfall. Matt Hardy finally able to score a Twist of Fate on Kennedy, and then pickup the pinfall victory in a great matchup.
Replay seen of the ending of the Undertaker/Batista matchup from Backlash, where both men crashed off the top of the ramp into a pile of equipment and scaffolding. Both men were down for the 10 count, leaving no clear winner to the match. Teddy Long then announced on Smackdown that next week Batista and Undertaker will meet to decide the winner in a 15 foot high steel cage.
Jimmy Wang Yang vs. Gregory Helms - After a series of early armbar takedowns by Wang, Helms was able to counter one and toss Wang out of the ring. Helms then took the fight outside the ring and hammered Wang into the side of the ring. Back in the ring, Helms used a variation of the Boston Crab on Wang. Helms continued to have control of his opponent until he threw him to the ropes and Wang landed a scissors leg lock on Helms' neck, tossing him down. Wang with momentum did several moves then tried a pin. Wang climbed to the ropes, but Helms came up from behind, grabbing Yang's legs to slam him down. After a failed pinfall, Helms say Yang up on the corner turnbuckle, then climbed up as well. Helms attempted to suplex Yang off the ropes, but Yang knocked Helms down to the mat, twice. Yang then with a moonsault off the ropes onto Helms, and scored a pinfall victory.
Batista came down to the ring, stitches on his forehead. Batista spoke about last Sunday's Backlash match vs Undertaker, and how they put each other to the limit. Batista said the championship is worth every second of pain and drop of blood and he's ready to do it again. Batista said in a 15 foot high steel cage next week, he will regain his title, despite every inch of his body hurting now.

Finlay vs. The Miz- Miz able to kick Finlay in the face twice to knock him out of the ring. Miz came out after Finlay, who then clotheslined Miz down and got back in the ring. As Miz came to, Hornswaggle crawled out from under the ring and jabbed 2 fingers in Miz's eyes. Miz back in the ring for more punishment from Finlay. Finlay went over to the corner of the ring to remove a turnbuckle cover. The ref went to re-adjust the turnbuckle cover. Just then Hornswaggle snuck into the ring. With Miz thrown to the corner, Finlay grabbed Hornswaggle and used him like a battering ram, tossing him into Miz' midsection. The ref turned as Hornswaggle managed to escape the ring. Miz able to regain advantage slightly and went out of the ring to look under the ring for Hornswaggle. With Miz' head under the ring. Hornswaggle came around from behind Miz with a golf club and swung it into Miz' leg. Miz then started to chase Hornswaggle around the outside of the ring, but Finlay jumped out and clotheslined Miz. With the 2 men fighting outside of the ring, Miz able to ram Finlay into the side apron a few times. Just then, Miz' legs were pulled out from under him and he was pulled under the ring. Finlay used this opportunity to get back in the ring, as the ref started to count Miz out. Miz was stuck under the ring for some time, then able to escape and came out wearing Hornswaggle's leprechaun hat. Miz was enraged and tossed the hat down as he backed away up the ramp yelling. The ref counted Miz out, giving the victory to Finlay.
MVP vs Kane - Winner of the match would get to take on Chris Benoit for the US Championship. Kane hammering away at MVP early on, from corner to corner of the ring. MVP tried to jump at Kane off 1 corner, but the monster caught him in a bear hug, then rammed MVP back into the turnbuckle. Kane drove a knee in MVP's spine while MVP was down. Kane tried to toss MVP out of the ring, but MVP held the ropes and stayed on the apron. Kane came over to MVP who then grabbed Kane's head and snapped him face first to the ropes. As MVP got back onto the apron, Kane recovered and came over to knock him out of the ring.
Kane with MVP back in the ring, tossed him face first into the turnbuckle. MVP able to reverse things and knock Kane down. MVP started to work on Kane's left shoulder, which has been a focal point for opponents in recent weeks. MVP kept Kane down to the mat, holding his left arm, but Kane started to get back to his feet. MVP tried to go off the ropes at Kane, but Kane used a boot to MVP's face, then several clotheslines. Kane tossed MVP to the corner for another clothesline. On his second charge at MVP, MVP moved away causing Kane to hit his shoulder. MVP then ran at Kane with a boot to the face. After a failed pin by MVP, Kane regained momentum and clotheslined and slammed MVP down several times. Kane then climbed the top turnbuckle and jumped down to clothesline MVP. Kane prepared for a chokeslam on MVP. Just then, Regal and Taylor ran down to the ring and got on the apron. Kane turned and grabbed both men by the neck. MVP able to get back up and hit Kane from behind. The ref went to get MVP away from the melee and this allowed Regal to hit Kane in the face with brass knuckles. MVP capitalized from this cheapshot and landed his finisher to get a pinfall victory on Kane.
