Smackdown Recap 5.11.07
5/11/07 Friday Night Smackdown from Pittsburgh, PA:
The Steel Cage was set up around the ring in preparation for tonight's cage match between Undertaker and Batista.
MVP & Finlay vs. Chris Benoit & Matt Hardy -Early on Benoit able to hit Finlay, causing him to back off into his corner and tag in MVP. Benoit with an early counter to bring MVP down for the Crippler. MVP close enough to the ropes to escape. Matt Hardy tagged in briefly to continue work on MVP. With Benoit back in, MVP reversed things and began to hammer away in the corner. While Hardy and Benoit worked together on MVP, MVP eventually able to push Matt to his corner and tag back in. Hardy able to bring Benoit back in, who managed to force Finlay to the outside. Benoit went to dropkick him outside the ring, but Finlay moved. Benoit ducked a Finlay clothesline outside the ring, then able to DDT him down. Finlay laying there with Hornswaggle peeking out to try to encourage him back into the ring.
With Finlay back in the ring, Benoit and Hardy able to keep dominating, until Finlay backed Hardy into MVP's corner and tagged out. MVP battling Matt Hardy up on the top turnbuckle, but Hardy pushed him down to the mat, then moonsaulted onto him. Hardy appeared to hurt his knee at one point, allowing MVP to focus on hitting it, and tag in Finlay. Despite the injury, Matt eventually able to escape Finlay and crawl over to tag in Benoit. Benoit landed 3 german suplexes on Finlay, then ran over and knocked MVP off the apron. Benoit went for the flying headbutt off the top ropes, but Finlay moved away. MVP able to tag back in, but Benoit countered a move with a quick rollup pin on MVP for the victory.
JBL and Michael Cole discussed the rivalry that has built up between Undertaker and Batista and showed highlight footage. Several highlight reels were shown throughout the program including the events leading up to Wrestlemania 23, and the Undertaker's title win to go 15-0 at Wrestlemania, as well as the Last Man Standing match which resulted in a draw.
Announced that next week Ozzy Osbourne will perform the WWE theme song live on the show.
Michelle McCool vs. Jillian- Jillian with an early slap in Michelle's face. causing Michelle to jump on Jillian and begin punching away. Jillian able to gain advantage and tried for a pin using the ropes to leverage her, but the ref caught her in the act. The 2 girls on their feet started to punch away at each other, until Michelle took the upperhand. Michelle with several failed pin attempts after landing a side suplex among other moves. Jillian tried to isolate Michelle in the corner and then whip her to the opposing corner, But Michelle able to grab Jillian and slam her back down onto the knee of Michelle. Michelle scored a 3 count pinfall victory.
Kristal back in Teddy's office giving him a shoulder massage. Teddy discussing how he still needs an assistant GM on Smackdown. Kristal about to suggest who Teddy should talk to, until a new tag team entered the office. The new tag team which was a short blonde man and taller brunette wearing overhauls in the tradition of the Godwinn's tag team. They asked Teddy to let them wrestle tonight, and Teddy said he would allow them to fight next week on Smackdown. Teddy then went back to Kristal who suggested Teddy talk to Vickie Guerrero about the assistant position. Teddy was shocked Kristal mentioned Vickie, but after some persusasion, Teddy said to tell Vickie to come meet him at Smackdown next week.
RAW Rebound was shown with highlights of Edge taunting Kennedy to eventually put his Money in the Bank title shot on the line in a match. Edge then proceeded to attack Kennedy behind his back on the way to the ring, and dismantle him outside the ring before the match could begin. Edge able to spear Kennedy down when the bell finally sounded, and Edge took the Money in the Bank. It was mentioned that Kennedy had a back week, which included injuring himself this past weekend during an event.
Michael Cole spoke to Ashley, who appeared on the Titantron from WWE headquarters in Connecticut. Ashley said she is anxious to be back in the ring soon because it's felt like weeks she has been away. Ashley said shes stayed positive and music helps motivate her. Ashley said London and Kendrick have been supportive of her too and they should regain their glory again in the near future.
London (w/Kendrick) vs. Domino(w/Deuce & Cherry)- London used his speed to try to combat Domino's strength advantage. Michael Cole noted London needs to prove he's healthy enough tonight, so that he and Kendrick can get a rematch for the tag titles. At one point, Domino slid out of the ring and London went to flip over the ropes onto him. Domino moved away, but London able to land on his feet this time instead of his ribs he injured before. London back in the ring with Domino who was trying to dominate with his strength. London able to escape/counter several moves with high flying and quick moves. Deuce tried to intefere in the match twice, standing on the apron. The 2nd time, Kendrick came over and grabbed his leg. After knocking down, Domino in the ring nearby, London then did an impressive "backflip" dropkick to kick Deuce off the apron and moonsault onto Domino for a pinfall victory.
Kane (w/Boogeyman & Little Boogeyman) vs. Dave Taylor (w/William Regal) - Kane smirked as Boogeyman arrived to the ring with his miniature friend, Little Boogeyman. Early on, Kane able to use his strength against Dave Taylor who didnt put up much of a fight. Regal able to distract Kane and get him to chase outside the ring. As Kane rolled back in, it allowed Taylor to take control over Kane and then put a hold on Kane's injured shoulder/arm. Taylor tried to isolate Kane in the corner, but Kane battled back. Regal got on the apron again to try to distract Kane, but this time Little Boogeyman grabbed his leg. Regal jumped down and chased Little Boogey briefly, but Boogeyman was waiting to clothesline Regal down outside the ring. Back in the ring Kane was able to get the chokeslam on Taylor for the pinfall victory. Kane, Boogeyman and Little Boogeyman stood together in the ring after the victory, with Kane amused by his new friends.
Batista vs. Undertaker (Steel Cage match for World Heavyweight Championship)- The winner of this match must win by pinfall, submission or by escaping the 15 foot high steel cage with both feet touching the floor. Batista came to the ring with his right leg/hamstring bandaged up and entered the cage pumped up for the match. Undertaker came to the cage amidst smoke and a dark arena, carrying his title belt. Taker stood in front of the cage and stared at Batista who was awaiting his opponent inside.
The two men grappled to start off the match, then backed away from each other. Early on Batista punching away at Taker who was able to give Batista a boot to the face off the ropes. Batista went for an early Batista Bomb, but Taker able to hit Batista's injured leg and knock him to the mat. Batista and Taker battled on the turnbuckle. Batista shoved Taker down off the ropes, then able to da flying shoulder into Taker, Batista called for the cage door to be opened but before he could exit the door, Undertaker was able to hit Batista's injured leg, and the door was closed.
Taker tried to climb the cage wall but Batista able to grab 1 of his legs, forcing Taker to kick him down. Taker then got back down to fight Batista. After some more fighting, Batista leveled Taker and tried to climb the cage wall himself. Taker finally back to his feet in time to go over and give a uppercut to Batista's leg/groin. Batista fell down onto the ropes and back into the ring. The 2 men went off the ropes at one point and collided, causing both men to be temporarily stunned.
Batista gained the upperhand over Taker, smashing him face first in the turnbuckles around the ring. Batista then with a big clothesline off the ropes, knocking Taker down. After a failed pinfall by Batista, Taker was able to get the momentum back, putting Batista in the corner of the ring, then clothslining him twice. After a slam, Taker chokeslammed Batista down. Taker with a 2 count, then stood up and signalled for the Tombstone. Taker picked up Batista, who was able to slide off and then grab Taker, tossing him face first into the cage wall. A bloodied Taker tried to get back to his feet.
Batista continued to slam Taker's busted up forehead against the cage wall. Batista with a slam on Taker and attempted pin. Batista beat on Taker in the corner then climbed the wall, but Taker able to Power bomb Batista off the turnbuckle. Undertaker called for the door to open and tried to crawl out, but Batista able to crawl over and grab his leg. Taker and Batista both climbed up on the ropes and were standing on the top rope, then punched each other. Batista able to punch Taker down, Batista then started to climb over the top of the cage wall. Taker sat up seeing Batista, and then Taker began to climb the other side of the cage. Both men dropped to the floor at the same time. The refs went over to the announcers table to watch the replay and see whos feet hit floor first. The ref concluded that both men's feet hit the floor at the same time, resulting in a draw. The announcer said in all cases a tie goes to the champion, so Undertaker remains champion.
As Taker got to his feet, Mark Henry ran down the ramp and attacked him. Mark Henry began to beat Taker up outside the ring, sending him face first into the steel steps then into the ring post. Henry tossed Undertaker back into the ring and clotheslined him down, then did a splash off the ropes onto Undertaker twice. 2 refs entered the ring and were able to send Mark Henry out of the ring and back to the locker room. As Henry got the top of the ramp, Edge's theme music came on and Edge appeared carrying his Money in the Bank briefcase. Edge charged to the ring.
Edge gave the briefcase to the ref and demanded the title match. After the ref finally got the match announced and started, Edge tried to just pin Undertaker twice, but Taker able to escape twice. To Edge's dismay, Taker then sat up, bloody and all. Edge backed into a corner and watched Undertaker struggle to get to his feet. With Taker finally standing in the ring, Edge charged at him and speared Taker down. Edge then with a pinfall victory to capture the World Heavyweight Championship title! As Edge walked up the ramp, Taker began to try to get back up in the ring. Edge with a sick smile, returned to the ring and used his briefcase to smash across the forehead of Undertaker. Smackdown left the air with Edge holding the title and briefcase.
