ECW Recap 07.17.07

Recap of ECW 07.17.07 from Laredo, TX:

Joey Styles said tonight there would be a major announcement from Johnny Nitro tonight during a press conference. Reporters were shown camped out at Nitro's locker room door, when a man in a suit came out and spoke on Nitro's behalf. The press agent told everyone "tonight will be the last night you see Johnny Nitro wrestle on ECW". The man said the rest of their questions would be answered later on in the ring. Joey Styles and Tazz were stunned and didn't know what was going on with the news.

Elijah Burke vs. CM Punk

Early on Punk injured Burke's arm and kept Burke down to the mat with a strong hold on his shoulder. Burke able to get back to his feet and beat up Punk in the corner for a bit. Punk regained control of the match momentarily until Burke grappled with him near the ropes and then both men spilled out of the ring. Punk and Burke were both down outside the ring as ECW hit commercial break.

Back from break, Burke had Punk down in the ring with a half Boston Crab type hold. Punk crawled over to the ropes but Burke pulled him back to center of ring where he started hammering on Punk's back. Burke slapped on a full Boston Crab but Punk managed to crawl his way to a bottom rope to break up the hold. Burke continued to try to wear down Punk by attacking his hurt back. Burke with a series of slams and suplex moves. Punk able to start kicking Burke while Punk was on his back. Punk then got up and knocked Burke down several times with clotheslines and a face first slam move on Burke. Burke regained control of the match again with several punches to Punk's face, but Punk was able to catch Burke out of nowhere. Punk hit Burke with his finishing move, slamming Burke face first into his knee for a pinfall victory.

Winner: CM Punk wins via pinfall over Elijah Burke.

Tazz and Styles discussed the appearance of Big Daddy V last week and said he will be appearing next in his first match on ECW.

Footage shown of Cena and Lashley to build up their upcoming match for the Great American Bash, with predictions/comments given from various superstars about the two wrestlers. Replay then shown of the face-off on Raw between Cena and Lashley.

Matt Striker came down to the ring in a suit and told the crowd that last week he gave Boogeyman a lesson on the word "redemption". Footage then shown of the beatdown Big Daddy V gave to Boogeyman by throwing him through Striker's desk and chalkboard in the ring. Striker then introduced Big Daddy V to the crowd for the next match.

Tim Storm vs. Big Daddy V

Early on V manhandled Storm from corner to corner of the ring at the start of the match. Big Daddy V hoisted Storm on his shoulders and slammed him down center of ring. V then threw Storm to the ropes and brought him down for a hard sideslam to finish the match fast. V with the pinfall victory.

Winner:Big Daddy V wins via pinfall over Tim Storm.

The Miz was in the ring with a mic and told the crowd he hates to admit it, but he's a chick magnet. Miz said he feels like every woman in the arena wants him, probably because of his personality, looks or charisma. Miz said he's about to call out 3 chicks who have a special surprise for him. Just then Extreme Expose came down to the ring. Layla set up a steel chair for Miz to sit on in the center of the ring. Extreme Expose then started a dance routine set to the Ciara song "Like a Boy". The 3 girls danced around and up close to Miz who sat in the center of the ring. Miz applauded at the end of the dance routine as fireworks exploded from the ringposts.

Tazz and Styles discussed Nitro's press agent's earlier announcement that this would be Nitro's last night wrestling on ECW. They speculated it may have something to do with last week's extreme rules match against Tommy Dreamer, which was a brutal new format for Nitro even though he was victorious. Tommy Dreamer then came out for his match as ECW went to commercial.

Tommy Dreamer vs. Kevin Thorn

Thorn showed his power early on as he rammed Dreamer back into the corner. Dreamer managed to gain momentum though and knocked Thorn down center of ring. Thorn rolled out of the ring, then got back onto the apron. As Dreamer came up to him, Thorn yanked Dreamer's head down snapping him off the top rope. Thorn took control from there putting an armhold on Dreamer's shoulder/arm down on the mat. Thorn tried to whip Dreamer to the corner and then ran at him, but Dreamer elbowed him. Dreamer knocked Thorn down then climbed the ropes. Thorn came over and climbed up the ropes with Dreamer. Thorn went to suplex Dreamer up off the ropes, but Dreamer pushed him off down to the mat. Dreamer jumped off the ropes with a flying splash/knee move onto Thorn. Dreamer tried for a pin but Thorn kicked out. Thorn managed to get Dreamer up for a Crucifix type move, but Dreamer slid off his back then clotheslined Thorn down. With both men back up, Thorn threw Dreamer hurt shoulder first into the corner ring post. Thorn took advantage as Dreamer fell to the mat by scoring the pinfall victory. After the bell rang, Thorn put Dreamer's legs up on the ropes and did the "Original Sin" move on him dropping Dreamer down hard to the mat.

Winner: Kevin Thorn wins via pinfall victory over Tommy Dreamer.

Reporters shown back at the door for Johnny Nitro's locker room as his press agent came out to say they would be heading out for the press conference.

Johnny Nitro Press Conference

Nitro's press agent was in the ring and talked to the crowd about Nitro entering WWE as part of MNM and being a tag team champ, Intercontinental champ and ECW champ. Nitro's press agent said Nitro will no longer be wrestling in ECW as he has changed his name. Nitro then came out to the ring wearing a white suit, black shirt and shades. Nitro held his title up for the crowd to see. Nitro took a mic and said he came out to make a statement. Nitro said his name is not Johnny Nitro, his name is John Morrison. Morrison said since birth he's been destined to do great things and went on to list all sorts of accomplishments he's had since he was young. He then said he is the ECW World Heavyweight champ and there's still people out there who doubt him. Nitro said there's no doubt he will beat CM Punk at the Bash this weekend. Morrison then said Punk is a disrespectful kid with tattoos.

Just then CM Punk came out to the ring and got up in Morrison's face. Morrison said this is a press conference not a wrestling match so he won't lay a hand on him tonight. Nitro asked where Punk came up with his "clever little name, CM Punk" and went to hand him the mic. Suddenly, Morrison smashed the mic in Punk's face several times and did a neckbreaker on Punk. Morrison left the ring and backed up the ramp with his belt on his shoulder, Morrison stood looking at the ring where a fallen CM Punk was holding his neck looking back at him.
