Service Held for Benoits, Ross Speaks
Atlanta Journal Constitution covered the funeral of Nancy Benoit and Daniel Benoit in Daytona Beach, Florida. The funeral was held this past weekend. According to the Constitution, hundreds of close family and friends appeared at the memorial services at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Daytona. All three bodies, Nancy, Chris an Daniel, were cremated in Georgia, and at the service, family members had two starfish-shaped urns containing the remains of Nancy and Daniel. Ernest Cates, a former wrestler of the 50's and 60's discussed how much Nancy was like her character "Woman" she played in WCW:
"She was determined, all together and designed her character to be very domineering. 'Woman' was her character and she was good at it. She was always vivacious and lovable."
The Journal-Constituion also noted that Jim Ross spoke to media outside the service.
According to the Atlanta Journal Constitution:
"Announcer Jim Ross was the only one mourner with a WWE tie to speak to the throng of media gathered outside the church. Ross bristled when asked what role if any steroids may have played in the Benoit tragedy.
"This is not a steroid issue," he said. "That horse has got to be put in the barn and unsaddled. It's not a steroid issue; it's a domestic issue. ... But more than anything, it's a tragedy because a mother and a little boy are dead, and that's the bottom line." "
A separate memorial is scheduled for Chris Benoit, which will take place in Alberta, Canada.
