The Sun Reviews Summerslam
The Sun, a UK website which frequently discusses pro wrestling gave Summerslam a score of 7 out of 10, and based it on the fact the undercard matches were not up to par with the more main event matches.
From The Sun:
"No titles changed hands, no one turned face or heel and we didn't even come close to finding out the identity of Vince's secret son.
But the real problem with SummerSlam was summed up by our regular column contributor Rob McNichol.
And that is the WWE are in trouble of developing the opposite problem to the one WCW used to have - the money matches deliver in spades but the undercard is far too weak.
The reason for that is while Raw - which provides almost every big bout and main event on PPV - is on fire, Smackdown and ECW are trailing a long long way behind.
It's not a stretch to say that by far the three best matches on SummerSlam were all provided by the Raw brand.
John Cena again proved why he is the company's most prized asset in a cracker with Randy Orton.
One of the best matches of 2007, Orton and Cena had the crowd eating out of their hands with plenty of great moves and false finishes as John retained the Raw championship belt." Read the Sun's full review of the event here.
It seems true that due to recent injuries (Edge, MVP), the Smackdown matches were lacking for recent PPV's. However, WWE can easily resolve match problems with inter-brand contests. Makes you wonder why they don't add more of them into the Pay Per View events.
