Jeff Hardy & Britney Spears

The Sun UK has an article discussing whether or not Jeff Hardy is going to be the next WWE champion. According to the article, Hardy may only be a transitional champion at best, despite the performances he puts on. The Sun likens him to Rob Van Dam or Rey Mysterio, both of whom held the major title only to give way to another wrestler's championship reign.
The article mentions the obstacles Jeff faces in becoming top notch with the WWE:

"The first is keeping up his fine in-ring performances.

At the age of 30, he should be at his physical peak. His recent matches have frequently been among the most entertaining features of WWE broadcasts and he is even being given more time to hone his admittedly weak mic skills.

His character is unique, which also aids his cause.

The last obstacle which Jeff must ultimately avoid is that of the fickle nature of the WWE creative team. "

It doesn't seem like Jeff will win at the Rumble, but then again many didn't expect his victory over Triple H. Once again, the WWE may have changed course due to the injury of its superstar John Cena, so time will tell if Hardy becomes our next champ. Read the full Sun UK article here

TMZ.com has also mentioned the WWE's recent "smackdown of Britney Spears" through wrestler commentaries and videos on WWE.com. TMZ suggests that WWE is making a serious play to get Britney into the WWE, perhaps in a wrestling match? They may be trying to bait her for Wrestlemania 24, as it seems WWE likes to use the big stories to create headlines and controversy. In the past year, WWE used the Kevin Federline angel as well as the Donald Trump-Rosie O'Donnel feud to provide matches on Raw and Wrestlemania. The Raw which featured K-Fed vs Cena was one of the higher rated shows last year for WWE.
