Smackdown Recap 01.11.08

Smackdown recap from 01.11.08:

Smackdown opens with highlights from last week's Beat the Clock tournament. Edge, Vickie Guerrero, Ryder and Hawkins managed to screw both Batista and Undertaker out of victories. In Batista's match he was ordered to face Ryder and Hawkins in a handicap match. Batista couldn't beat the clock in time to get the pin. Later on, Undertaker was screwed over in his match against Mark Henry, when guest referee Matt Striker wouldn't make the 3 count as time expired. In the final match Edge decided to take on Rey Mysterio with Hawkins and Ryder at ringside. Batista came down to throw both over the crowd barriers. Undertaker appeared to turn the lights out on Edge, allowing Mysterio to pick up the win as the lights came back. Mysterio moves on to face Edge at Royal Rumble for the title.

Teddy Long wheeled Smackdown GM Vickie in her wheelchair in the ring. Vickie told him to get a mic for her to speak to the crowd. Vickie Guerrero introduced Rey Mysterio to the ring as new #1 contender for the title. Vickie congratulated Rey and Rey told her it was weird for her to do that being on Edge's side. Rey said he still cares about her and her family. Rey said he's putting aside the past but doesn't understand her alliance with Edge. Rey brought up Eddie Guerrero and Vickie said he's no longer there and would want her to move on. Vickie discussed having a child with Edge, the perfect father figure. Rey told her that was a mistake. Edge eventually appeared from backstage and walked to the ring.

Edge stormed around staring at Rey then told him he'd heard enough. Edge told Rey it's a reality that he's with Vickie, and that after the Rumble he's still be the champion. Rey told Edge he might still be in love after the Rumble but he won't be champ. Just then Chavo Guerrero came down to the ring. Chavo told Rey to mind his own business and that he'll never be a Guerrero. Chavo then called out Vickie for calling herself a Guerrero, saying the rest of the family is disgusted by her relationship. Edge told them to back off the Smackdown GM. Vickie told Chavo and Rey they're paid to wrestle so tonight they will face each other in a match.

Michael Cole and Coach discussed how Undertaker and Batista both qualified for the Royal Rumble match. Just then, Chuck Palumbo came riding out to the ring on his motorcycle with WWE Diva Michelle McCool on the back.

Chuck Palumbo vs. Jamie Noble

Cole reviewed last week's match where Victoria and Kenny defeated Chuck and Michelle McCool. Cole said Palumbo was angry with Michelle for costing them the win. Palumbo rode off alone on his motorcycle.

Palumbo seemed to dominate most of the match, punching Noble around and knocking him to the mat. Palumbo used a serious Samoan Drop off his shoulders to the mat, but Noble kicked out of the pin. Palumbo continued to manhandle Noble with Michelle watching. At one point, Noble slid off Palumbo's back and started kicking him. Palumbo responded by kicking Noble into the corner. Noble was able to jump up on Palumbo when he got whipped to the ropes. Noble used momentum to pull Palumbo down and roll him up in a pinfall. Noble scores yet another surprise victory over Palumbo! As Noble backed up the ramp he blew a kiss to Michelle McCool who was in the ring with a very upset Chuck. Chuck turned to look at Michelle angrily and cornered her in the ring. Michelle looked visibly intimidated and the crowd chanted "Chuck's a loser". Noble came to the top of the ramp to stare at Palumbo, and Michelle escaped the ring.

Winner: Jamie Noble wins via pinfall over Chuck Palumbo.

Backstage in an office Vickie and Edge looked at pictures. Edge told Teddy Long to leave. Vickie told Edge she was still upset over what happened earlier. Edge told her not to worry what anyone says and to just relax. Edge began to give Vickie a shoulder massage and the camera cut to Batista walking backstage to come to the ring.

Batista vs. MVP

Cole reminded fans that MVP will take on Ric Flair at the Royal Rumble. If Flair loses, then his WWE wrestling career is over. MVP said prior to the match he wanted to tell everyone his accomplishments. MVP said he's won the Tag Team titles, the US Championship, and next he will add to that the title of "man who retired Ric Flair". MVP said Flair is in Japan tonight doing promotional work. MVP continued with the rant but just then Batista's music came on and he made his way down to the ring.

MVP took control at one point in the match after Batista seemed to be dominating. MVP with a kick to Batista's leg took him down to the mat. As Batista stood up MVP ran at him and delivered another kick to his head. Batista fell out of the ring and Smackdown went to commercial. MVP was still in control as Smackdown resumed and he slammed Batista to the mat. MVP used kicks and holds to keep Batista to the mat, despite Batista fighting back.

Batista managed to ram MVP to the corner, then clotheslined him down. However, Batista hurt his neck and head and was shaken up. Batista scored a near pinfall with MVP kicking out. Batista hit the Spinebuster on MVP then went for a Batista Bomb, but MVP escaped to get out of the ring. Batista ducked under the rope to go at MVP, but MVP raked him in the eyes then kicked him in the head. MVP fell out of the ring and MVP eventually tossed him shoulder first to the ringpost. Both men climbed onto the apron as the ref counted them out. Batista delivered a right hand to MVP knocking him off the apron. Batista re-entered the ring right before the ref's count hit 10. Batista wins due to a countout and an unhappy MVP grabbed a steel chair. MVP speared him down outside the ring and MVP quickly exited up the ramp before Batista could do more.

Winner: Batista wins due to a countout of MVP.

Cole noted that Great Khali's handler Ranjin Singh will face Hornswoggle in an arm wrestling match later on. The Undertaker will compete against Mark Henry and his manager Matt Striker in a handicap match, and the main event will have Rey Mysterio facing Chavo Guerrero.

"Stand Up for Rock and Roll" by Airbounre will be the official theme song for the Rumble. Their full album comes out January 29th.

Undertaker vs. Mark Henry & Matt Striker

Undertaker had Henry pinned with time running out in the Beat the Clock match last week. However, guest ref Matt Striker only counted 2 before leaving the ring. Time expired and the Undertaker was out of the tournament.

Striker left the ring as the match started so that Henry and Taker could battle. Undertaker took the upperhand and went to go for "Old School" off the ropes. Matt Striker got on the apron and distracted Taker so Henry could knock him down. Striker got into the ring but Taker sat up and looked at him causing Striker to exit the ring again. Taker eventually beat up Henry and tossed him over the ropes. Undertaker then took Striker and put him into the Tombstone Piledriver to collect the pinfall victory.

After the bell, Big Daddy V made his way down to the ring. Mark Henry got into the ring to hit Taker from behind. Taker eventually managed to knock Henry down with a DDT and then took V down with a clothesline off the ropes. V rolled out of the ring and Taker hit the Chokeslam on Mark Henry as he got up.

Winner: Undertaker wins via pinfall over Matt Striker and Mark Henry.

Backstage Vince McMahon told his son Hornswoggle he was very proud of him for winning last week to get a spot in the Rumble. Vince said it'd be great to see Hornswoggle win and go on to Wrestlemania to challenge for the title. Hornswoggle left to go to his arm wrestling match and Finlay came up to Vince. Finlay told Vince he wasn't holding up his part of the deal. Vince told Finlay never to mention that and gave Finlay a spot in the Rumble so he could watch after Hornswoggle.

Raw Rebound featured the cage match between Jeff Hardy and Umaga from this past Monday's WWE Raw. Randy Orton watched from ringside as Umaga seemed to be in control. However Hardy overcame the odds as he did a Whisper in the Wind off the top of the cage onto Umaga. Hardy scored a pinfall victory to win the match. Afterwards he climbed the cage and looked down at an angry Randy Orton.

Ranjan Singh vs. Hornswoggle
Arm Wrestling Match

Great Khali accompanied Singh to the ring. Prior to the match Singh said he's practiced the training regime that Khali has, just as is displayed on WWE.com. Hornswoggle came down to the ring with his pal Finlay.

The ref asked both men to put their arms/elbows up on the table. The table was too tall and Hornswoggle couldn't put his arm up. The ref retrieved a chair for Hornswoggle to stand on, allowing him to put his elbow on the table. Finlay produced a remote control device from his pocket and switched it on. Immediately Singh started screaming as if the table had shocked him. The ref asked him was wrong and got him to put his elbow back. Finlay gave Hornswoggle a yellow glove and he was able to easily grab Singh's hand and win the match.

Afterwards, Khali knocked Finlay down to the mat with a kick to the head and went after Hornswoggle. Khali put Hornswoggle up on the corner ropes and was about to attack but Finlay smashed a chair over his back. Finlay smacked Khali on the head and he rolled out of the ring with Singh. Hornswoggle and Finlay celebrated the win in the ring.

Winner: Hornswoggle wins the arm wrestling contest over Ranjan Singh.

Kane vs. Domino

WWE Diva Cherry and Deuce accompanied Domino to the ring. Domino made the mistake of trying to shove Kane early and Kane responded by beating him up in the corner. Kane used a sideslam then went to the corner ropes. Kane hit a clothesline off the ropes on Domino then went for a chokeslam. Deuce got on the side apron to distract and Kane knocked him off. Domino was able to catch Kane in the face with a double knee move, then he went to the ropes. Domino jumped off at Kane but Kane caught him with a hand around the neck. Kane used a chokeslam then scored the pinfall.

Winner: Kane wins via pinfall over Domino.
