ECW Recap 07.15.08

ECW Recap from Charlotte, NC:

Highlights were shown from last week's ECW show, where Tony Atlas served as special guest announcer for the main event: Tommy Dreamer vs. Mark Henry. Colin Delaney looked on from ringside and played a part in the match, grabbing Henry's leg as he went against the ropes to splash Dreamer. Henry went outside the ring after Delaney, and Atlas seemed to intervene to prevent Henry from attacking. All of a sudden, Atlas tossed Delaney against the commentators' table. Mark Henry grabbed Tommy Dreamer as he came out to confront Atlas. Henry slammed Dreamer down, and then Atlas got into the ring to announce Mark Henry as victorious.

ECW opened with Mike Adamle announcing later on there would be a tag match with The Miz and John Morrison taking on Matt and Jeff Hardy. Tazz was in the ring and introduced Mark Henry, who came down to the ring with WWE Hall of Famer Tony Atlas. Tazz asked Mark Henry and Tony Atlas why they did what they did last week. Atlas said Henry offered him a payday if he'd carry his bag. Atlas said he wouldn't carry just anyone's bag, except the ECW champion's Mark Henry. Atlas said they had a demonstration for the audience about just how strong Mark Henry is. Atlas had a ringside WWE staff member hand him a frying pan.

Atlas invited a male audience member to get in the ring and try to bend the frying pan, but he had no luck. Atlas handed Henry the pan and he was able to fold the sides over, showing his strength. As Atlas started hyping up Mark Henry's talent, Tommy Dreamer came storming down the ramp to the ring. Dreamer said he's been training hard for their upcoming match and wanted to try bending a frying pan too. Henry gave Dreamer a brand new frying pan to try to bend. Dreamer struggled with it and Atlas and Henry started to laugh about it. Dreamer took the pan and clocked Henry hard over the head, then left the ring in celebration.

Backstage, Teddy Long told Dreamer he needs to calm down. Long said he's giving Dreamer the night off to calm down before his match Sunday. Long told Dreamer this isn't Raw and he won't tolerate any civil unrest. Dreamer stormed out of the arena kicking walls as he left.

Shannon Moore vs. Mike Knox

Mike Adamle asked Tazz about Knox' chances at becoming an ECW champ. Tazz said Knox has all the tools to one day possibly challenge. In the match, Shannon Moore was able to gain momentum against the bigger Knox. Moore was able to land a headscissors off the corner ropes but failed at the pin attempt. Moore tried to leap at Knox in the corner, but Knox caught him in the air then delivered a massive backbreaker. Knox followed up with his finisher a corkscrew twist type move to faceplant Moore into the mat.

Winner: Mike Knox wins via pinfall over Shannon Moore.

Raw Rebound covered the chaotic episode of Raw last night. Despite a show opening warning from Stephanie and Shane McMahon, the show saw Shawn Michaels attack Chris Jericho, Kane try to attack CM Punk, and Batista rush down to spear Kane in the ring. Raw ended with JBL leading John Cena outside the arena, then beating him up and driving a car straight at him and another car.

Evan Bourne vs. Chavo Guerrero

Chavo was accompanied to the ring with bodyguard Bam Neely. The high-flying newcomer Evan Bourne took on a former ECW champ in Chavo. Bourne was able to land a backflip in the center of the ring to splash on Chavo, and then finished him off with a shooting star press off the corner turnbuckle. Bam Neely tried to get in the ring to attack Bourne, but Bourne quickly retreated.

Winner: Evan Bourne wins via pinfall over Chavo Guerrero.

Colin Delaney shown backstage talking to Teddy Long's assistant Tiffany. Mark Henry and Tony Atlas came walking up and Tiffany left. Atlas told Delaney not to worry because they know he had nothing to do with Dreamer's actions earlier. Atlas put his hand on Delaney to reassure him, but all of a sudden Henry grabbed Delaney and put him up in a bear hug. Henry tossed Delaney over onto some nearby bins, and Delaney fell to the pavement. Tiffany ran back over to check on Colin then ran to get help.

Tazz and Mike Adamle reviewed the matches for Sunday's Great American Bash including Edge vs Triple H, Batista vs. CM Punk and Shawn Michaels vs. Chris Jericho.

Matt & Jeff Hardy vs. The Miz & John Morrison

The hometown North Carolina fans gave a strong ovation to the Hardys as they teamed up on ECW in a non-title tag match. During the contest, Miz and Morrison were able to wear Jeff Hardy down and tried to keep him away from Matt. Eventually, Jeff was able to muster up the strength to drop Morrison down, but Miz quickly tagged in to stop Jeff from getting to Matt.

Jeff finally was able to get a backflip off the turnbuckle to crash down on Miz in the ring. Jeff managed tag to Matt who came in to knock down John Morrison with a huge clothesline. Matt landed a bulldog from the corner with Miz while also clotheslining Miz off the side apron. Morrison was able to fight his way out of the Twist of Fate and then dropped Matt down on the top rope. Morrison failed at a jackknife pin attempt, then climbed the corner ropes for a move.

Matt Hardy grabbed Morrison off the corner and was able to do a Razor's Edge type move. Miz was quick to get back in the ring and knock Matt off the pin attempt. Matt got up and hit a Side Effect on Miz then went at Morrison. With the ref distracted, Morrison hit his finisher on Matt. Meanwhile, Jeff Hardy got up on the corner and hit the Swanton Bomb on Morrison. Matt took the pinfall and the Hardys were victorious, celebrating with the hometown crowd.

Winners: Matt & Jeff Hardy win via pinfall over The Miz & John Morrison.
