Smackdown Recap 07.18.08

Smackdown Recap from Charlotte, NC:

Smackdown opened with highlights of Vickie & Edge being married earlier. Chavo Guerrero was Best Man and joked he couldn't find the ring. The wedding went off happily, uniting Vickie and Edge as husband and wife.

A wedding reception party was held on Smackdown with tables set up on the ramp. La Familia was present still in wedding attire. Chavo Guerrero delivered a speech and toast to the bride and groom, as well as a mock cover of WWE Magazine showing that Edge won the WWE title at Great American Bash. Edge spoke briefly about the marriage then said it's time to get the Smackdown show started. Edge and Vickie sat down at their decorated tables on the ramp to observe the show.

Jim Ross announced a Fatal Fourway tag team title match for Sunday. Miz and Morrison will put their titles on the line against Jesse & Festus, Ryder & Hawkins and Hornswoggle & Finlay.

Hornswoggle & Finlay vs. Ryder & Hawkins

Edge confronted Hornswoggle and Finlay prior to the match about how they continually cheat to win matches. Edge said Ryder and Hawkins won't fall for that. Edge also said he will be special guest referee for the match. Ryder & Hawkins fought while still in wedding attire.

During the match, Edge pulled Finlay off Ryder or Hawkins and accused him of cheating. Edge grabbed Hornswoggle at one point, so Finlay ran over and hoisted up Edge on his shoulders for a Celtic Cross. Hornswoggle rolled out of the ring. Ryder charged over and took out Finlay's leg, causing him to fall to the mat. Finlay got up, but Edge was quick to run at him and Spear him down, allowing Ryder & Hawkins to win by pinfall.

Winners: Ryder & Hawkins win via pinfall over Finlay & Hornswoggle.

Edge & Vickie shared a wedding dance at the top of the ramp with singers singing a slow dance song for them. All of a sudden, Big Show came out from backstage and cut in on the dance so he could dance with Vickie. An angry Edge said Show better get himself down to the ring for the next match which he and Vickie arranged. Show laughed and walked down the ramp towards the ring.

Big Show vs. MVP, Vladimir Kozlov, Shelton Benjamin & The Great Khali
Four on 1 Handicap match

Four wrestlers of Edge's choosing faced Big Show in the ring as retribution for last week's No DQ match where Show layed Edge out. Show was able to cause Shelton, MVP and Kozlov to all retreat as each tried to come at him in the ring.

Eventually, Khali tagged in and the fight was on. Show and Khali traded punches, but Show was able to knock Khali down as he came off the ropes. Show then began to beat up Shelton, MVP and Kozlov as they came at him. Eventually the ref called for the bell, giving Show the victory, but his opponents overtook him. MVP, Kozlov and Shelton delivered enough power to knock Show to the mat, and all 3 held him for Khali. Khali grabbed Show and lifted him with both hands to slam him down.

Winner: Big Show wins due to DQ of MVP, Khali, Vladimir Kozlov and Shelton Benjamin.

Highlights shown from last week's diva tag team match with Michelle McCool & Cherry vs. Natalya and Maryse. It ended with Natalya locking in the figure four on Cherry for the win, then Natalya attacking Michelle after the bell.

Vickie Guerrero was in ring and chastised the crowd for interrupting her talking. Vickie said it's a wedding tradition to toss the wedding bouquet for all eligible bachellorettes. Outside the ring were the divas and Michelle McCool started to attack Natalya. Eventually Ryder & Hawkins charged down the ramp and pulled Michelle off Natalya, then told her to head backstage. Vickie tossed the bouquet and Cherry caught it. Vickie told Cherry she doesn't ever expect her to get married, but since she caught the bouquet she gets a special match, against Vickie. Vickie said first Cherry has to beat Natalya in a match.

Cherry vs. Natalya

Cherry & Natalya entered the wing dressed in skirts for Edge & Vickie's wedding celebration. The bell rang and Natalya pounced on Cherry, tackling her to the mat. Natalya took the bouquet and smashed it in Cherry's face while pounding on her. Natalya quickly turned Cherry into the Sharpshooter to get her to tap out.

Winner: Natalya wins via submission over Cherry.

Cherry vs. Vickie Guerrero

Vickie yelled on the mic for the bell to ring starting the match. Vickie immediately ran over and layed across Cherry to collect her debut pinfall victory. Edge & La Familia applauded her win from the ramp.

Winner: Vickie Guerrero wins by pinfall over Cherry.

Jimmy Wang Yang vs Bryan Kendrick

Kendrick came to the ring accompanied by a huge bodyguard named Big Ezekiel who watched from ringside. Yang had several pinfall attempts, but Kendrick kicked out of each. Yang finally climbed the corner ropes for a Moonsault, but Ezekiel began to distract him from near the corner. Kendrick took advantage by yanking Yang off the corner ropes down to the mat. Kendrick then stood Yang up and did a running DDT type move off the corner ropes with him to win it. Ezekiel got into the ring afterwards to give Kendrick his white jacket.

Winner: Brian Kendrick wins via pinfall over Jimmy Wang Yang.

Edge was shown walking backstage and a man from Slim Jim came up to him in a suit. The man, Terry, shook Edge's hand and congratulated him. Terry gave Edge a box of Slim Jims as a wedding gift. Edge said he appreciated him coming but he has to get back out to his baby.

Mr. Kennedy vs. Umaga

Highlights shown from last week's ambush, where Mr Kennedy was attacked in the ring by Umaga, after MVP distracted Kennedy from ringside. Edge, Vickie & La Familia continued to watch the matches from the top of the ramp as part of their wedding reception party.

Kennedy gave a strong effort, but the Samoan Bulldozer was too much for him. Kennedy tried to bodyslam Umaga but Umaga's weight was too much and he fell back on Kennedy on the mat. Umaga continued to wear Kennedy down with powerful moves and submission holds, such as the shoulder nerve grip. At one point, Kennedy seemed poised for a big win as he had Umaga set up for a Mic Check. Umaga shoved Kennedy away and down to the mat though. As Umaga pulled Kennedy up, he forcefully hit him with the Samoan Spike to KO Kennedy to the mat for a pin.

Winner: Umaga wins via pinfall over Mr. Kennedy.

A premiere was shown of Edge's brand new Slim Jim commercial. Jim Ross said Edge is the new spokesperson for Slim Jim. The advertisement showed Edge waiting in line at a motor vehicles office. Edge pulled out a Slim Jim unleashing a tiny version of himself, the "spicy side" which started causing chaos in the office. The line was soon eliminated and Edge was at the front desk.

Jesse & Festus vs. Miz and Morrison

As the match got a bit out of control, Festus got into the ring and started to beat up Morrison. Festus threw Morrison to the outside, where Morrison was able to avoid a charging Festus. Festus hit the ringpost hard, appearing to hit his head. Morrison went to get back in the ring from the apron. Festus grabbed Morrison onto his shoulders, then used a Flapjack slam to plan Morrison face first into the ground. Meanwhile in the ring, Miz was able to get the upperhand on Jesse and delivered the Reality Check for the win.

Winners: John Morrison & The Miz win via pinfall over Jesse & Festus.

Mick Foley & Jim Ross ran down the card for this Sunday's Great American Bash including CM Punk vs. Batista, Shawn Michaels vs. Chris Jericho and Triple H vs. Edge for the WWE title.

Matt Hardy vs. Jeff Hardy
Brother vs. Brother match

In a match ordered by Vickie Guerrero as entertainment for her and her new husband, the Hardy brothers had to face each other. As Matt & Jeff came out onto the ramp, they took wedding cake and threw it in the faces of Chavo and La Familia, causing an uproar from Edge & Vickie. Matt and Jeff continued to the ring to start their match.

Matt and Jeff gave the match their all, trading maneuvers throughout. Matt Hardy landed a moonsault off the corner ropes to try to pin Jeff, but Jeff kicked out at 2 1/2. All of a sudden, Edge and La Familia stormed down to the ring and began to take down the Hardys. Edge delivered a huge spear to each of them leaving them decimated in the ring. No clear winner in the match due to interference.

Winner: Disqualification due to Edge and La Familia's interference.

The blissful newlyweds sat on stools in the ring along with La Familia. Edge professed he had finally found true love with Vickie and presented her a special video highlighting their relationship's best times. The video played on the Titantron and Vickie appeared smitten by Edge's gift. Suddenly as Edge was speaking, Triple H's music came on and the arena went dark as The Game made his way out to the ramp.

Triple H mockingly congratulated the newlyweds, then said he had some gifts for them. Triple H presented his own video up on the Titantron, of Edge inviting the wedding planner, Alicia Fox, to his room to discuss details of the wedding. Edge began to hit on the wedding planner. Triple H also presented that he had his sledgehammer with him in case anyone from La Familia came at him. Triple H continued revealing the video footage, which eventually showed Edge and the wedding planner exchanging massages and then kissing.

Vickie Guerrero became enraged at what Edge had done and began to scream at him. Edge quickly fled the ring and backed up the ramp, horrified. Vickie continued screaming "How Dare you!" and "I Can't Believe You!" as Smackdown came to a close.
