Raw Recap 10.20.08


Raw Recap from Texas:


Kelly Kelly & Candice Michelle vs. Jillian Hall & Katie Lea

Four of the WWE divas locked up prior to Cyber Sunday's Halloween Costume contest. In this match, Kelly flew off the ropes with a splash onto Jillian, but Katie Lea came in to kick Kelly breaking up the pin. Candice got in the ring and cleared Katie out, kicking her to the outside. Candice kicked Jillian who was trying to pin Kelly as the ref got Candice back to the apron. Kelly was able to finish off Jillian with her finisher as she put her leg on the back of Jillian's head then drove her down into the mat.

Winners: Kelly Kelly & Candice Michelle win by pinfall over Katie Lea & Jillian Hall.

Footage was shown from last week's Raw where Chris Jericho and Batista chose each other's opponents for the night. Jericho put Batista into a match against Shawn Michaels, but made it a Lumberjack match with heel wrestlers surrounding the ring. Batista won despite the outsiders. Later, Batsita put Jericho in a match against CM Punk, but Batista made himself the special ref. During the match, Jericho got into Batista's face. Batista delivered a Spinebuster on him, and Punk was able to capture a pinfall victory.




Chris Jericho came down to the ring carrying his belt over his shoulder. Jericho exited the ring and went over to ring announcer Lillian Garcia, demanding she announce him as the World Heavyweight champion. Lillian did so and Jericho yanked the mic from her hands to get in the ring. Jericho accused Lillian and every other wrestler backstage as being disrespectful. Jericho said it's spread like a virus to all the hypocrite fans as well. Jericho added that GM Mike Adamle is also disrespecting him by making it a Special Guest ref match for Cyber Sunday. Jericho said the list of potential refs is a joke and unfair to him as champion. Jericho said after Cyber Sunday when he returns to Raw as champ, fans will have no choice but to respect his accomplishments. Just then, Batista came out to interrupt Jericho's speech.

Batista told Y2J he can't demand respect, he has to earn it. Batista added that if Jericho beats him at Cyber Sunday, he will earn a lot of people's respect. Batista warned Jericho to stop whining and shut his mouth, or he'd shut it for him. Just then, Raw GM Mike Adamle came out to prevent an in-ring brawl. Adamle said both Batista and Jericho will compete against the same 3 opponents in a Gauntlet match tonight. Batista and Jericho had a stare down, and Jericho slapped Batista in the face before backing out of the ring fast. Batista smirked out at Jericho as he backed up the ramp.




Footage was shown from last week's Raw where Haas Hogan went up against JBL. Haas had the advantage but missed on a leg drop, allowing JBL to eventually hit a Clothesline from Hell.

JBL came to the ring and began to taunt the crowd, saying there's no reason he should be wrestling a "has-been impersonator" like Charlie Haas. Just then, Stone Cold Steve Austin's broken glass and theme song came on. Down the ramp came Charlie Haas in a bald wig and Stone Cold ring costume. Haas had Lillian introduced him as Stone Cold Steve Haastin. Haas took a mic and riled up the crowd and JBL with some classic Austin lines before the match started.

JBL didn't take long to make his point in this match. After Haas tried for a Stone Cold Stunner, JBL shoved him away. Haas came back towards JBL and ate a boot to the face. JBL followed up with the Clothesline from Hell to win it.

After the win, JBL left the ring and grabbed the mic from Lillian Garcia. JBL said "and that's the bottom line because JBL said so!"

Winner: JBL wins via pinfall over Stone Cold Steve Haastin.

Rey Mysterio shown walking backstage on his way out to the ring.




Promotional highlight video was shown of Mike Knox who's coming to the Raw program soon.

Rey Mysterio vs. Snitsky

Michael Cole and Jerry Lawler reviewed the type of match possibilities which fans can vote on for Cyber Sunday's Mysterio-Kane match. Mysterio was able to escape Snitsky early enough and used a headscissors to toss Snitsky into the middle rope. Mysterio followed up with the 619 to kick Snitsky in the face, then got up on the top rope and did a springboard. Rey did a springboard to jump/splash onto Snitsky and take the pinfall.

Winner: Rey Mysterio wins via pinfall over Snitsky.




Footage was shown of various celebrities talking about John Cena's muscularity, personality and talents. Included in the celebrities were Ben Stiller, Conan O'Brien, Marc Ecko, The Jonas Brothers and Bobby Lee from Mad TV.

CM Punk & Kofi Kingston vs. The Miz & John Morrison

Miz and Morrison insulted DX prior to the match, calling them D-Geriatric X. Miz yelled out "Are you 50?" to mock DX's "are you ready?"

In the match, Kofi was worn down by Miz and Morrison. At one point, Kingston mustered up a comeback, but Miz smartly rushed over and knocked CM Punk off the apron. Kingston finally surged over to his corner for a tag, but Punk was nowhere to be found. Later in the match, Punk was able to get Morrison up for the GTS, but he was nearby to Miz. Miz made a blind tag which Punk didn't realize. Punk hit the GTS, but Miz rushed in and got Punk into a roll up pin for the victory.

Winners: The Miz and John Morrison win by pinfall over CM Punk & Kofi Kingston.

Backstage, Chris Jericho chastised GM Mike Adamle for not giving him the respect he deserves and putting him in the Gauntlet match on Raw tonight. Jericho said he needs to be mentioned in the same breath as greats like Buddy Rogers and Hulk Hogan. Adamle said that's why he put him in tonight's Gauntlet match, to get the respect he deserves from everyone.




Santino Marella came to the ring accompanied by Beth Phoenix. Santino was carrying a guitar, was dressed in Roddy Piper gear, had his face painted gold and wore a Honky Tonky Man wig. In the ring, Santino said all 3 of his potential opponents for Cyber Sunday are washed up. Santino went on to insult each of his 3 potential opponents. Hacksaw Jim Duggan arrived to the ring to interrupt Santino's speech. The crowd began to chant "U-S-A". Hacksaw told Santino he was just confused. Hacksaw told Santino he's seen a lot of flashes in the pan, and Santino's the flashiest. Hacksaw yelled at Santino for disrespecting his generation. Santino had the Honk-A-Meter displayed again and reminded Hacksaw he was never Intercontinental champion.

Hacksaw called Beth Phoenix Santino's boyfriend. Santino said those were fighting words and got ready to throw down. Santino began to remove all his accessories, handing them each to Beth. Santino told Beth to give Hacksaw the clothes before he robs them. Beth tossed them in Hacksaw's face, and Santino clocked him over the head with the guitar he brought to the ring.




Cryme Tyme vs. Cody Rhodes & Ted Dibiase

Dibiase and Rhodes arrived to the ring with Manu. Rhodes, Didibase and Manu decided to attack Cryme Tyme before the bell could even ring. They continued with the beatdown despite the referee's warnings. Dibiase exited the ring and brought back the tag team belts, then he Rhodes and Manu raised each others' arms.

Winners: No winners as match never officially started.




Raw returned to Jerry Lawler and Michael Cole going over the Cyber Sunday matches and various voting options for fans. Fans can vote on the Undertaker vs. Big Show match type at WWE.com.

Chris Jericho arrived to the ring for his Gauntlet matches. Mike Adamle joined him in the ring. Batista came out next. Adamle said Batista would go first, then introduced the first opponent, William Regal, who arrived to the ring with Layla.

Gauntlet Match #1

Regal used a flurry of offense, but it wasn't enough as Batista caught him off the ropes for a Spinebuster. Batista quickly launched into a Batista Bomb and took the pinfall victory. Jericho tried to get in the ring fast to take a pinfall, but Batista stalled.

Winner: Batista wins via pinfall over William Regal.

Chris Jericho vs. William Regal
Gauntlet Match #1

Jericho demanded the ref help Regal up quickly. Once the ref had Regal up, Jericho quickly hit the Code Breaker then took a pinfall victory to show up Batista.

Winner: Chris Jericho wins via pinfall over William Regal.

Jericho was pleased with himself momentarily until GM Adamle announced he'd start the second match and his opponent was the World's Strongest Man.

Chris Jericho vs. Mark Henry
Gauntlet Match #2

Y2J was able to avoid a Mark Henry move and then clipped his leg. Jericho tried early for a Lion Tamer, but Henry used his power to shove Jericho out of the ring. Jericho continued his onslaught, but was unable to take a pin after the Lionsault off the ropes. Jericho went over and ripped a turnbuckle cover off, but the ref caught him. As the ref was re-fastening the cover, Jericho rushed outside the ring and grabbed his World Heavyweight title belt, then rushed back into the ring and hit Henry with it. The ref caught him again and called for the bell.

Winner: Mark Henry wins by disqualification over Chris Jericho.

Gauntlet Match #2

Batista quickly attacked Henry as the bell sounded. Henry was still recovering from being hit by Jericho's belt, but shoved Batista away. Batista got up and as Henry turned back towards him he grabbed him for a Spinebuster, then took the pinfall victory.

Winner: Batista wins by pinfall over Mark Henry.

Mike Adamle informed Jericho he'd start the final of the Gauntlet matches, with the opponent the Big Red Machine, Kane.

Gauntlet Match #3

Jericho worked on Batista's left leg to exploit an injury. Kane finally struck back with a uppercut to Jericho. Jericho knocked Kane down as he came at him, then tried for a Lion tamer. Kane used his leg strength to throw Jericho across the ring. Kane continued to beat up Jericho, but eventually missed on an elbow drop. Jericho tried to mount a comeback, but Kane beat him down again then went to the top ropes. Jericho got up fast and rushed over to knock him off balance. Jericho then climbed the corner ropes to fight with Kane. Kane delivered a headbutt to knock Jericho to the mat. Kane delivered a flying clothesline and only could get a 2 1/2 count.

Kane prepared for a Chokeslam, but Jericho elbowed out of it. Jericho rushed at Kane, but Kane dumped him onto the top rope. Jericho spilled out of the ring. Batista went over to Y2J to prevent him from retreating up the ramp. Kane reached out and pulled Jericho into the ring. As Jericho tried to come off the ropes, Kane delivered a huge boot to knock him to the mat, then took a pin to win it.

Wnner: Kane wins by pinfall over Chris Jericho.

Batista vs. Kane
Gauntlet Match #3

Jericho was frustrated at losing to Kane and slapped at him from the side apron. Kane became distracted as he turned to confront Jericho. Batista got in the ring preparing for Kane to turn around. As Kane turned, Batista rushed over and Speared him down for a quick pinfall victory.

Winner: Batista wins by pinfall over Kane.

For the Gauntlet matches Batista came out 3-0 with all pinfalls while Jericho was 1-2 with a pinfall, a DQ loss and a pinfall loss to Kane. Despite that, Jericho raised his World Heavyweight belt up outside the ring to show Batista he was still champ. Batista stared him down from in the ring, smirking as Raw left the air.
