Smackdown Recap 02.20.09

Smackdown recap from Portland, OR:

Smackdown opened with Edge discussing how he's a winner, having won the World Heavyweight Title at No Way Out, competing in two Elimination Chambers. Edge says he seizes opportunity when he sees it. As Edge continued to brag, former WWE Champ Jeff Hardy came out and interrupted Edge's promo. After challenging Edge, Hardy then insulted Smackdown GM Vickie Guerrero. Edge told Jeff he has no right to challenge for the WWE title. With Vickie watching, Jeff hit Edge with a Twist of Fate and left the scene.

Because of the opening incident, Vickie Guerrero announced that Jeff Hardy will take on Edge tonight in a non-title match.

Eve & Maria vs. Michelle McCool & Maryse

In a divas tag team match, Eve and Maria teamed up to take on their foes Michelle McCool and Maryse. In the match, Eve started to gain the advantage against Maryse, first suplexing her, then delivering a high dropkick. However, Michelle McCool was able to knock Eve off the corner turnbuckle and Maryse took the winning pinfall on her.

Winners: Michelle McCool & Maryse win via pinfall over Eve & Maria.

Highlight video from The Miz & John Morrison’s recent date with The Bella Twins was shown. Carlito and Primo Colon disguised themselves as waiters at the restaraunt and ended up throwing pies in the Bella Twins' faces.

MVP & R-Truth vs. Shelton Benjamin & Chavo Guerrero
Changed to Handicap Match

Prior to the match R-Truth was attacked outside the ring by Chavo and Shelton making it a handicap match for MVP. During the match, MVP started to dominate Chavo, with Shelton rescuing him from a high kick in the corner at one point. However, Chavo Guerrero turned against Shelton in the match and MVP was able to hit the Drive By on Chavo for another victory on his recent win streak.

Winners: MVP wins via pinfall over Shelton Benjamin & Chavo Guerrero.

Backstage the brand new WWE Champion, Triple H was interviewed regarding his big win at No Way Out's Smackdown Elimination Chamber.

It was announced that next week on Smackdown The Miz & John Morrison will defend their WWE Tag Team titles against Carlito & Primo Colon.

Scotty Goldman vs. Umaga

Relative newcomer Scotty Goldman was the recipient of Umaga's wrath on Smackdown. Despite Umaga dominating to win the match easily, Vickie instructed them to restart it. Goldman got an extremely petrified look on his face. Umaga was able to hit the hip splash on Goldman in the corner followed by a vicious Samoan Spike to level Goldman for the pinfall.

Winner: Umaga wins via pinfall over Scotty Goldman.

Vickie Guerrero comes out to a ton of heat. They have to turn up her mic. She says that neither Shawn Michaels nor JBL should face The Undertaker. Vladimir Kozlov comes out. There is so much heat it is hard to understand what it goes on. It appears Kozlov is challenging the winner of Shawn Michaels vs. JBL.

Jeff Hardy vs. Edge

Edge controlled most of this non-title match against Jeff Hardy. Jeff hit his trademark moves on Edge, but when he tried a Twist of Fate, Edge countered into the Edge O’ Matic. Jeff was able to connect on the Swanton Bomb. Suddenly, Matt Hardy came to the ring and interfered. Matt hit the Twist of Fate on Jeff, causing the referee to call the match due to disqualification. After interfering, Matt got on the mic to let it be known he wants Jeff in a one-on-one matchup next week. Smackdown ended after Edge speared Jeff Hardy and posed in the ring.

Winner: Jeff Hardy wins due to disqualification over Edge when Matt Hardy interfered in the match.
