Deja Vu: 2 Titles on Smackdown

The 2009 No Way Out Pay-Per-View seemed to lead us back to where we were in 2008 right after the WWE Draft. Recall to back then when Triple H was the champ drafted to Smackdown, where Edge was already the major champ as well. Everybody questioned why they had two titles on the same program, but shortly thereafter, Edge decided to come on Raw and gloat how nobody would be getting his title there. He happened to forget about that old Money in the Bank briefcase that CM Punk had won at Wrestlemania. Punk was able to cash it in on Raw after Batista beat up Edge in and around the ring, and Punk brought the World Heavyweight Title to Raw.

We now fast forward through several title reigns including Punk, Chris Jericho, Batista, Jericho again and then John Cena who held the title for longer than any of the others mentioned. Everyone believed heading into tonight's No Way Out PPV it would be Cena as the favorite, bringing his title to Wrestlemania 25, where he would do battle with Orton. However, WWE threw us another curveball, yet again involving Edge creating an opportunity. Having a GM as his lover doesn't hurt either, but apparently she trumps the power of Stephanie McMahon? Fans have already expressed disgust at the idea that once again the "big surprise" involved Edge getting into a match out of nowhere to win a title. And once again, Edge brings the World Heavyweight Title to Smackdown, while his fellow Smackdown member Triple H has the WWE title. Yep, true deja vu...

Where do we head from here? This is where it gets interesting, because Wrestlemania comes in March, and both titles will be on the line then. Randy Orton has won the 2009 Royal Rumble and will get to headline Wrestlemania 25, so far. With the current storyline, he's put Vince McMahon in the hospital, beat Shane in a No Holds Barred match, and continues to terrorize Stephanie. Last week, Steph was on a phone call to some unidentified caller. While she didn't end the call with an "I love you", it very well could have been Triple H on the other end. HHH is the Chairman's son-in-law and Steph's husband. A strong possibility may be that Orton demands Steph bring the WWE Champ to Raw so Orton can face him at WM25. Or Randy continues to threaten and harass Stephanie, prompting HHH to come handle business, setting up their title fight. Makes sense, but then what about Edge's title?

Possible WM25 Title Matches:

Randy Orton vs. Triple H (WWE Title)

John Cena vs. Edge (World Heavyweight Title)

Undertaker vs. Edge (World Heavyweight Title)

Undertaker vs. Triple H (WWE Title)

Shawn Michaels vs. Triple H (WWE Title)

Triple H vs. Edge (Title vs. Title Match?)

It's hard to see Orton vs. Edge at Mania because both are such viable heels. It also now seems like John Cena may be thrust out of the main event, or will he get a rematch against Edge at WM25 for his title? The two have clashed numerous times in the past over titles. There's also Edge's opponent from a year ago at Mania, The Undertaker, but it seems hard to believe there would be a repeat main event. Another name who seems to be unheard of right now is Batista. Is there a possibility he's ready to return and face someone at Mania? Jeff Hardy seems likely to battle his brother Matt in a big match at Mania, with no titles involved. Shawn Michaels is also coming off a huge victory to save his career from JBL, could he be destined to also headline Mania in his homestate of Texas?

Deja vu or not, Edge's win seems to be the most baffling now, because the WWE Universe can only speculate which superstar will get a shot at his World Heavyweight Title come Wrestlemania 25. It does seem likely Triple H and the WWE Title may be moving back to Raw for now. Feel free to leave your thoughts below on what matches we'll see at WM25...
