Smackdown Preview 02.20.09
At this past Sunday's No Way Out Pay-Per-View, six of Smackdown's best superstars faced off in one of two Elimination Chamber matches. The Smackdown match was for the WWE title, with Edge defending his championship against Jeff Hardy, Big Show, Vladimir Kozlov, The Undertaker and Triple H. Edge was eliminated early on in the match, leaving the door open for a new champ to be crowned. It came down to Undertaker versus Triple H for the prized belt with Triple H able to counter Taker in the end and hit the Pedigree. Now The Game holds the WWE Championship on Smackdown, but was recently seen on this week's Raw as he rushed to the aid of his injured wife Stephanie McMahon, just moments after Randy Orton RKO'd her. What will Triple H have to say regarding his recent title victory, Randy Orton, and his current brand of choice?
Despite losing the WWE Championship, Edge once again earned his nickname "The Ultimate Opportunist" when he beat up Kofi Kingston right before Kofi was about to enter the Raw Elimination Chamber. Edge then took the place of the injured Kingston, locking himself in one of the pods in the chamber. The Rated-R Superstar would go on to be the final contestant in the match facing Rey Mysterio, and defeating him for the win. Edge appeared on Raw this past week to let everyone know he turned the WWE Championship into a World Heavyweight Championship. All of the bragging by the new champ prompted the former champ, John Cena to make his way out to the ring. Cena put Edge on official notice that he's going to hunt him down and get his title back once again. Now with Edge holding the World Heavyweight title on Smackdown, what will be next for the Rated-R Superstar? Will a new #1 Contender be named on Smackdown?
The two brothers Hardy on Smackdown seem to be having issues co-existing on the roster. In past weeks, both Matt and Jeff have called each other out, confronting one another. Matt has been behind a vicious attack on Jeff weeks ago which cost him the WWE Title. Jeff Hardy still went on to compete at No Way Out in the Elimination Chamber for the World Heavyweight Title, and despite losing seems on track to be a top contender. Meanwhile, Matt's jealousy over Jeff's WWE title reign seems to have him hell-bent on getting the best of his brother. Who will strike next in this brother versus brother feud on Smackdown? Will a match be scheduled for the two to finally decide who the best Hardy is?
