Night of Champions 2009 PPV Matches

WWE's July Pay-Per-View, Night of Champions 2009 edition, will take place Sunday, July 26th in Philadelphia, PA at the Wachovia Center. All titles are scheduled to be on the line at this event. Last year's event saw Triple H defeat John Cena in a clash over the WWE Championship. This year, both men are back in the WWE Title match, however it's a Triple Threat match and Randy Orton is current champion. Here's a look at the full schedule of matches for the Pay-Per-View, with more to be added in the coming days and weeks.

Melina vs. Michelle McCool
WWE Womens Title

Just weeks ago, Michelle McCool made history in the divas division as she became the first ever diva to have won both the Womens Title and the Divas Championship. Of course, McCool had help in accomplishing that feat as she had diva Alicia Fox with her at ringside to give assistance. For weeks now, the former champion Melina has gone after McCool both inside and outside the ring. On the 7/24 episode of WWE Smackdown, Melina let McCool know that she'd be getting her rematch as stated and it would be at 2009 Night of Champions. Will Melina be able to regain the gold, or will McCool continue to be top diva in the WWE?

Dolph Ziggler vs. Rey Mysterio
Intercontinental Title Match

On the 7/10/09 episode of Smackdown, Rey Mysterio successfully defended his Intercontinental Title against former champ, Chris Jericho. However, as the match ended Rey had to elude an attack from Edge and Jericho inside the ring. Thinking he was safe at the bottom of the ramp, Rey stared at the two men in the ring, only to be ambushed from behind by an opportunistic Dolph Ziggler. Ziggler tossed Rey in the ring to be beaten down by Edge and Jericho. About a week later on WWE Superstars 07/16/09, Mysterio came to the ring to confront his attackers. Dolph Ziggler appeared and issued a challenge to the master of the 619, for his IC title at Night of Champions. Ziggler's been on a tear lately, building serious momentum, but will he have what it takes to become the new champ?

6 Pack Challenge
United States Championship

Six men will enter the ring to fight it out for the honor of the United States Championship. The Champion, Kofi Kingston, will have his hands full as he must defend against 5 worthy and hungry competitors. The Miz, Carlito, Jack Swagger, MVP and Big Show are all looking to gain the US Title at Kofi's expense. Carlito, MVP and Big Show have all held the title before with Miz and Swagger looking for their first ever reign. Which of these superstars will reign supreme as the United States Champion?

Christian vs. Tommy Dreamer
ECW Title Match

Tommy Dreamer's been the champ for weeks now after managing to pull off a win on the last day of his WWE Contract. Dreamer also survived a Championship Scramble which included the likes of Christian, Finlay, Mark Henry and Jack Swagger to retain the title. In subsequent weeks, Dreamer and Christian have crossed paths repeatedly, as the former champion wants his prized gold back. On the 7/14/09 episode of ECW, Dreamer was nearly a victim to Vladimir Kozlov's clutches in the ring. Christian tried to make a save, but ended up clotheslining Dreamer down in the process. The end result was both men left laying in the ring. The two are due for an appearance on the Abraham Washington show and the sparks may only continue to fly. Who will come out on top at the PPV in this battle of Extreme wrestlers?

Cody Rhodes & Ted Dibiase vs. Chris Jericho & Mystery Partner
WWE Unified Tag Team Title Match

Primo and Carlito Colon were flying high as Unified Tag Team Champions. That is until they were booked into a Triple Threat title match at a Pay-Per-View not long ago. They already knew they were facing Legacy, but then Smackdown GM Teddy Long added a new team to the mix: Chris Jericho & Edge. The two cocky Smackdown superstars managed to tag their way into the action, and after Edge caught Carlito with a surprise spear, the tag titles were cinched around Edge & Jericho's waists. Unfortunately, in recent weeks, Edge suffered a severe injury requiring surgery. Due to that fact, Chris Jericho made it known that he had a special clause in his contract for Night of Champions, which allows him to choose a new partner to defend the titles. Jericho has plenty of superstars to choose from and has said the new tag partner will be even better than Edge. Just who will that partner be? And will Legacy bring home the titles, or will Jericho and his mystery partner retain?

Mickie James vs. Maryse
WWE Divas Championship Match

Ever since being drafted to Raw, the Divas Champion Maryse has showcased her arrogant attitude while seeming to exchange wins with diva Mickie James. For weeks, Maryse tried to elude Mickie James, but in recent times the two have been involved in matches with varying results. Mickie won a divas match to become #1 Contender for Maryse's Divas belt, and now looks to Night of Champions to be her night. Not long ago, Smackdown diva Michelle McCool became the first ever to have won both the Womens Title and Divas Title. Will Mickie James follow as the second lovely diva to accomplish this feat?

Jeff Hardy vs. CM Punk
World Heavyweight Title Match

The WWE Universe is quite familiar with the emerging saga between World Heavyweight Champion CM Punk and briefly former champ, Jeff Hardy. At Extreme Rules, Jeff managed to finally outsmart Edge and defeated him in a hard-fought Ladder match. Holding onto the title for just moments, Jeff was surprised as CM Punk made his way down to the ring to cash in his MITB briefcase for an instant title victory. Jeff questioned Punk's timing and Punk continued to downplay it, saying he doesn't wrestle to make friends, but to win titles. At the next Pay-Per-View, Jeff attempted to regain the gold, but CM Punk seemed to suffer an eye injury. He kicked the ref and caused the DQ, managing to retain the title. As the two superstars have been on Smackdown, they've continued to cross paths, with Punk causing distractions to Jeff, causing him to lose key matches. The two even tried to team up as tag partners, with Jeff faking an eye injury to get revenge on Punk. Now the two will cross paths, but in the ring and with the World Championship on the line. Will Punk manage to outsmart Jeff yet again? Or will Jeff Hardy finally gain the glory he's been seeking?

John Cena vs. Triple H vs. Randy Orton
WWE Championship Triple Threat Match

Randy Orton has held the WWE Title for several weeks now, since winning a Fatal Fourway which included Big Show, John Cena and Triple H on Raw. Orton has also continued to wreak havoc on the other superstars of the Raw roster, using his Legacy cronies, Dibiase and Rhodes to do his dirty work. However, two superstars who continue to stand in Orton's way and each others, are John Cena and Triple H. These three men are no strangers to each other either. They've fought it over the title before at a Wrestlemania mania event. The champion then, Orton. The end result, Orton retained his title. Once again the three will step into the ring for the WWE Title, but will Orton once again retain? Or will Cena or Triple H be the new proud WWE Champion after the PPV?
