Smackdown Stories: Teddy Long's Undertaker Issues

One thing most wrestling fans and WWE personnel should be well aware of by now: you don't screw with the Deadman. If you do, all hell is likely to break loose. Unfortunately, Smackdown General Manager Teddy Long decided to tamper with that rule and has now payed the price.

The WWE Universe was finally given Long's explanation this past Friday on Smackdown as to why he doublecrossed Undertaker at Breaking Point. Vince McMahon caught up with the GM who has been on probation backstage, commending him on the recent surprises including Breaking Point's outcome, and then his bringing Batista to Smackdown. Vince told Long he needed to go out and explain to everyone why he doublecrossed Undertaker though. Before Long spoke, the referee involved in the Breaking Point screw job, Scott Armstrong, provided his interview to Josh Matthews. Armstrong claimed he knew the outcome before the bell even sounded and did what he did to keep his job, since he has a family to support. While Armstrong said he wasn't proud of his actions, he said he really had no choice. The outcome was of course Armstrong calling for the bell as soon as CM Punk put his Anaconda Vice on Undertaker. The match was ruled in favor of Punk despite Taker never tapping, and the World Heavyweight Title was preserved.

Long's explanation probably didn't appease the WWE fans or Undertaker from the looks and sounds of things though. The Smackdown GM, flanked by a crew of security personnel, got in the ring to explain he did what he did for the same reasons as the referee, because he has a family to support and a job to keep. Basically, Teddy was citing work pressure to do something big, or he'd get fired by the boss, Mr. McMahon. Of course, a doublecross of Undertaker is monumental, and may save your career from Vinnie Mac, but probably isn't the best "life decision". We saw that later as Long got into his limousine, discovered the driver was Undertaker, and then was trapped in the passenger area as smoke started to fill the backseats. Long screamed for help as the limo drove off.

WWE didn't have too many ways to make Undertaker lose the submission match at Breaking Point, and still make him look like the legendary phenom he always has been. The problems are due to Taker's bodily health (he has been said to be hobbled by a hip problem), and the lack of superstars on Smackdown for the title picture. Another possible outcome would be the always popular, ref is distracted, Taker gets knocked out, match is called. Or they could have introduced some third competitor into the match and had Punk beat him by submission. Nonetheless, it is what is, and last thing we saw was Teddy Long being driven away by Undertaker. It's unknown where they went and when we'll see either again. As of now there's now World Heavyweight Title match for Hell in a Cell yet, and that is a match which Undertaker typically excels at. So either he challenges Punk, forces Long to book it, or Batista somehow gets into the title picture instead. A triple threat Hell in a Cell could be rather interesting too with The Animal, Undertaker and Punk all doing battle at once...

Smackdown Recap 09.18.09

Smackdown Recap from Hamilton, Ontario, Canada:

Smackdown opened with highlights of what went down at Breaking Point in the World Heavyweight Title match between CM Punk and Undertaker. Teddy Long was involved in the first match, coming out to remind everyone Undertaker's Hells Gate submission had been banned. The match restarted, Punk jumped Taker and put on his Anaconda Vice grip submission, with the ref calling for the bell despite Undertaker never tapping. Punk retains the World Heavyweight title.

A limousine was shown driving into the backstage arena parking garage area. General Manager Teddy Long stepped out and appeared nervous, looking around cautiously. He waved over his own team of security personnel who surrounded him and stayed close, then kept walking with him.

As the show opened, Batista was introduced to Smackdown and came to the ring. Highlights were shown from this past week's Raw where The Animal attacked Randy Orton and later beat him in a match. Batista said the reason he chose Smackdown now is because his WWE contract was up, so he got to choose his own show and wanted to be on the top show for WWE. Chris Jericho came out to interrupt his speech, sarcastically welcoming Batista to Smackdown. Jericho compared Batista to Edge since both get injured a lot. Jericho then mentioned he's the top star of the show and a lot changed since Batista left. Batista said he goes by the phrase "to be the man you've gotta beat the man". The segment ended with Batista delivering a Spinebuster on Jericho.

A replay was shown of what just went down, while Grisham and JR discussed the incident. Moments later, Jericho was furious as he went backstage into Big Show's locker room to complain about his partner not coming to his aid. Show said Jericho told him he wanted to handle things by himself before. Jericho angrily ordered Big Show to stay backstage during his match tonight to see how he handles things.

Later tonight, referee Scott Armstrong will speak about the controversial decision he made at Breaking Point for CM Punk vs. Undertaker.

John Morrison vs. Mike Knox

Knox was in control earlier, but eventually Morrison made his comeback with several flip kicks to Knox' face. After several kicks he sent Knox to the outside, and then did a springboard moonsault to take Knox down. Smackdown headed to commercial for a break in the action.

Knox was back in control as Smackdown returned with a chinlock on Morrison. Knox continued the punishment after kicking Morrison in the back of the head by using a backbreaker. Morrison was able to counter into a DDT and then used a low dropkick to Knox' knee to take him down. Morrison hit a running knee and then a standing Shooting Starpress for a 2 count. Knox with a crossbody and a near fall of his own. Knox went for his finisher the Knox out, but Morrison avoided his attempt and then hit a flying kick. Morrison finished with Starship Pain to win it.

After the win, Morrison spoke on the mic to taunt Dolph Ziggler. He reminded fans of the name he called him at Breaking Point "Mr. Ziggles", sending Ziggler into a furious frenzy.

Winner: John Morrison wins via pinfall over Mike Knox.

Backstage, Josh Matthews interviewed referee Scott Armstrong about the whole Undertaker CM Punk debacle at Breaking Point. Armstrong said he did something Sunday he had never been asked to do before in his entire career. He said since he doesn't run the business, he works for them and does what he's told. Armstrong said he has a family and what he did at Breaking Point makes him sick, but he did it to keep his job.

Melina vs. Michelle McCool

The two divas battled in a non-title match. Early on Michelle ducked under the ropes so that Melina couldn't get her. McCool also limped into the ring, but later in the match she clearly was doing just fine on her knee. McCool worked a sleeper hold on Melina after slamming her head into the mat. At one point, McCool went for a move on Melina but Melina avoided it, causing Michelle to go flying outside the ring. Later still, the two divas battled in the ring with Melina doing her Matrix style move to duck McCool's big boot. McCool followed up with another kick to get Melina. Michelle had Melina up for a finisher similar to Victoria's Widow's Peak, but Melina countered into her powerbomb to win it.

Winner: Melina wins via pinfall over Michelle McCool.

Backstage, Teddy Long was shown pacing in his office, and advised security to stay close to him at all times, since they never know where Undertaker could show up. Vince McMahon suddenly showed up. Vince congratulated Teddy on bringing Batista over to Smackdown, saying it was a great surprise. Vince then started asking why Teddy doublecrossed Undertaker at Breaking Point. He told Long he owed him and the WWE Universe an explanation and ordered him to go out and explain to everyone. Smackdown went to commercial.

Smackdown GM Teddy Long arrived to the ring hearing a chorus of boos from the fans. Long was accompanied by his security crew. Long personally welcomed Batista back to the show. Long then said he had to admit to what he had done, and said everything was planned out to make sure Undertaker wouldn't become World Heavyweight Champ. Long said he's got a family too, just like Scott Armstrong, and feared he might lose his job so something had to be done. Long said he didn't want to be fired from the company, and offered an apology to Undertaker, saying he hopes he'll forgive him.

Jim Ross and Todd Grisham talked over what Teddy just said to the fans. Meanwhile a camera followed Teddy and his security crew as they moved backstage. Teddy got into a waiting limousine. A camera showed Teddy in the backseat, and he told the driver to get going twice. The tinted window between passenger and driver rolled down to reveal The Undertaker who turned to face Long saying "Buckle up Teddy". Smoke started to come out of the back seats as Teddy started frantically trying to get out of the limo but couldn't. He started banging on the doors yelling for someone to help get him out, as the limousine drove away with smoke coming out the windows.

After a replay of what happened to Teddy Long in his limo, CM Punk arrived to the ring to address the fans about his win at Breaking Point this past Sunday. Punk said "I told you so", and it seems like he's always saying that to the fans. Punk said he wanted to take his title and shove it in Taker's face to say "I told you so" to him too. Punk said he's been preaching to the fans since they need it so much. He said they'll probably do what Taker did and just give up though. Punk suggested that most fans wake up, need a pill just to get out of bed, then fill their day with smoking and drinking. Punk called the fans inebriated zombies and said they all self-medicate. Punk said he's still the only "straight-edge" champ in WWE history.

Cryme Tyme vs. Hart Dynasty

Eve and Natalya were both present for the matchup. Early on, Shad hit a flapjack on DH Smith. After a doubleteam, JTG had the advantage on Kidd in the match. Shad used a press slam on Tyson Kidd prior to the first break in the action. Out of the commercial, it was DH Smith hitting Shad with elbows. Kidd came in to continue attacking the big man. DH Smith tagged in yet again to work on Shad. Shad tried to get away after using a big boot, but DH Smith held his leg to prevent the tag. Kidd came back in and locked in a headlock on Shad. Shad finally escaped after coming off the ropes to clothesline Kidd. JTG rushed in and began to go to work on Kidd. Kidd had a pinfall, using the tights to secure it, but JTG reversed. Natalya tried to get involved in the match, with the ref and Eve Torres stopping her. Kidd hit the Blockbuster on JTG to get the win, after Smith helped him illegally.

Winners: The Hart Dynasty wins via pinfall over Cryme Tyme.

Backstage, WWE Diva Melina was shown walking into the women's locker room. She saw pictures all over the walls of Dolph Ziggler with Michelle McCool in compromising positions (taken last week by Layla). Maria walked in as Melina was trying to take the pictures down. Maria said Dolph must have a reasonable explanation, then accused Melina of putting the pictures up. Maria said she thought they were friends but now she's done with Melina. Melina looked dejected as Maria walked out.

Kane vs. Great Khali

Early on, Khali used chest chops on Kane in the corner, then delivered a huge boot to knock down the Big Red Machine. Khali was ready for a Punjabi Plunge, with Kane escaping the ring. Khali followed to the outside to continue working on Kane. Kane fought back and grabbed a steel chair to level Khali. Kane then ripped apart the steel steps and dragged Khali by his leg over to the steps. After placing Khali's left leg on the steps, Kane picked up the top of the steps and smashed it down on his leg repeatedly. Kane had a maniacal grin on his face as he left to go up the ramp. Ranjin Singh and several officials checked on Khali yelling for doctors, as Kane watched up on the big screen from the ramp.

Winner: Great Khali wins due to disqualification over Kane.

Charlie Haas awaited the arrival of R-Truth for the next match. Truth's music and entrance video played, but instead Drew McIntyre came to the ring. McIntyre asked for a mic with Haas staring at him in the ring. McIntyre said it seems R-Truth was involved in an accident backstage, so he's unable to compete tonight. Drew told Charlie he's winner by forfeit, and said congratulations, then offered his hand for a shake. Haas accepted, then turned to leave the ring, with McIntyre grabbing him and attacking him with a vicious DDT to the mat.

Batista vs. Chris Jericho

In the main event, Jericho slapped Batista in the face to start things, but the Animal quickly caught Jericho on a crossbody, then slammed him down for an early pinfall attempt. Jericho hit a low dropkick on Batista's knees. As Jericho and Batista battled on the outside, Big Show was shown watching the match on a monitor backstage. Jericho was able to slam Batista onto the announce table, then started punching away on his head. Back in the ring, he put a submission hold on The Animal, but Batista rammed him back into a corner to break it. Jericho started using kicks to stay in control of things. Batista seemed to be favoring his knee, but started a comeback when he slammed Jericho to the mat. Batista used ramming shoulders into Jericho's gut, but then Jericho hit a facebuster. Batista cut off Jericho's momentum by hitting a Spinebuster on him. Batista kept limping around the ring. Jericho dodged Batista's spear attempt, then had a near pinfall using the ropes for leverage. Batista with an attempted Batista Bomb, but Jericho turned it into Walls of Jericho. Batista turned over and kicked Jericho away. Jericho went for Codebreaker, but Batista caught him in the air and turned it into a Batista Bomb, winning by pinfall.

Winner: Batista wins via pinfall over Chris Jericho.

Backstage, roving reporter Josh Matthews caught up with Big Show who just witnessed the match. Big Show said if Batista wants a match he's got one next week on Smackdown, but The Animal's luck will run out. Smackdown closed with Batista celebrating in ring.

Smackdown Preview 09.18.09

On this past week's episode of Raw, The Animal Dave Batista made a huge return to the show, with a big announcement for the fans. While it appeared that Batista might be hanging up his wrestling boots for the final time due to his biceps tear injury, it was soon revealed to Randy Orton and the WWE Universe that Batista was in fact heading to Friday nights. Batista wrestled his final match on Raw, getting a victory against Randy Orton as sweet revenge for Orton's attack that sidelined him for months. Now Batista is moving to Smackdown in search of new competition. He'll have his hands full with the returning Undertaker and current straight-edge World Heavyweight Champion, CM Punk. Batista makes his official return on Friday. What will the Animal have to say to the Smackdown roster?

At Breaking Point this past Sunday, the World Heavyweight Title was decided in a Submissions match between Undertaker and CM Punk. However, Smackdown General Manager Teddy Long might have some explaining to do regarding the outcome of the match. Undertaker had the Hells Gate submission locked onto Punk, causing the champ to immediately tap out. The ref tried to award Taker the title, but soon Teddy Long changed all that when he reminded everyone the Hells Gate submission had been outlawed by previous GM, Vickie Guerrero. The match was restarted, and in the second contest, CM Punk quickly locked his Anaconda Vice hold on Taker. While Taker never officially tapped, the ref ruled in favor of Punk, awarding him the win. Punk retained his title, and Undertaker was none too happy. What will Teddy Long have to say regarding the outcome of the match, and how will Undertaker react? What's next for CM Punk?

In other action, the Unified Tag Champions Chris Jericho and Big Show are still on a roll. The champs managed to pull off another victory, this time against the recently formed tag team of Mark Henry and MVP. In the match, Mark Henry seemed to have control of things against Jericho. However, it was Big Show who scored a knockout punch from ringside, sending Henry to the mat for Jericho to pin. On the recent episode of Raw, the team of Mark Henry, MVP and Trish Stratus were able to defeat Jericho, Big Show and Beth Phoenix. With their recent victory over Henry and MVP, will Jericho and Show move on to new opponents, or will Raw's latest tag team look for a rematch opportunity?

Catch all the action and excitement of Smackdown Friday night at 8PM EST on MyNetworkTV!

However, Cena refused to quit, and managed to get the keys to the handcuffs so he could cuff he and Orton together. Cena used the STF submission and put the handcuff chain on Orton's neck to make him yell out "I Quit".

Lillian Garcia was in ring to start off Raw and asked the fans to welcome "The Animal" Batista back to Raw. Batista came out with a arm brace/sleeve on his left arm. Orton said nobody cares to hear Batista's retirement speech, then suggested Batista is retiring because of him, not due to his health. Batista started laughing and Orton became upset. Batista said it's funny how predictable Orton is, and then pulled off his arm brace, revealing he wasn't hurt. Batista proceeded to clothesline Orton down, then bodyslammed him, before clotheslining him out of the ring. Batista got back on the mic and said he wasn't there to announce retirement, but that he was going to Smackdown. Highlights were shown from when these four clashed on WWE Superstars last week. Miz picked up the victory when he hit the Skull Crushing Finale. Miz earned a shot at the US Title at last night's PPV due to the win.

Late in the match, Kingston was able to do a unique DDT-style move on Swagger to take him down. Kofi sent Swagger into the corner. With Swagger in the corner, Kofi jumped up and went for 10 punches. Miz was over on the side area and took the United States Championship belt, causing Kingston to be distracted. Swagger took control from there as he picked up Kofi and threw him into the turnbuckle. From there, Swagger hit the Gutwrench Powerbomb for the pinfall victory. Miz walked up the ramp carrying the belt on his shoulder.

Winners: Jack Swagger & The Miz win via pinfall over Kofi Kingston & Primo.

Raw returned with Michael Cole talking up last night's Pay-Per-View as being controversial. Lawler sent out thanks to Lynyrd Skynyrd for the song "Still Unbroken" the PPV theme song.

WWE Divas Champion Mickie James came down to ringside in street clothes to join Cole and Lawler on commentary.

Gail Kim vs. Alicia Fox
Match for #1 Contender Status

The winner of this match would be #1 Contender for Mickie James' WWE Divas Championship. Mickie James discussed both women as top competitors who have had success against her in the past.

Alicia Fox took control in the match as she locked a leg scissors hold around Gail's torso in the ring. Gail elbowed her way out, but Alicia slammed her face first into the mat. Alicia shot a glare over towards Mickie then slammed Gail to the mat. Alicia went for her scissors kick, but Gail avoided and hit a neckbreaker. Gail gained momentum as she started to clothesline Alicia and then went at her in the corner. Gail with a reverse crossbody as she jumped off the middle ropes of the corner. Alicia tossed Gail to another corner then charged but Gail moved. Gail went to the corner for a jumping move, with Alicia moving out of the way. With Gail semi-stunned on the mat, Alicia recollected herself and ran over to deliver her kick to the back of Gail's head. Alicia Fox with the pinfall win then glared at Mickie James.

Winner: Alicia Fox wins via pinfall over Gail Kim to become #1 Contender for the WWE Divas Championship.

As Raw returned, Cole and Lawler discussed the big match tonight involving Batista and Orton. Footage was replayed from when Orton first injured Batista on Raw with a vicious punt kick to his head in the ring.

Trish Stratus was backstage lighting relaxation candles in an office when Beth Phoenix came in. Beth confronted Trish for not putting her in the #1 Contenders Match earlier. Before Trish could explain, Chris Jericho was also there. Jericho started to insult Trish and said she's bitter from when he sent her packing. Beth suggested that Trish retired so she wouldn't have to face her, and then said at least Jericho has guts. Trish said she was going to face Jericho and Beth tonight, and would find herself a partner for the match tonight. Before leaving, Jericho told Trish he could take Bob Barker anytime anyplace.

Cole and Lawler talked over highlight slides from last night's "Submissions Count Anywhere" match at Breaking Point. DX and Legacy fought all over the arena and backstage. It came down to Legacy knocking out Triple H backstage, then making Michaels submit around the ringpost. Triple H couldn't get to the ring in time to make a save. Legacy was shown walking backstage all smiles.

Shawn Michaels vs. Ted Dibiase

Cody Rhodes accompanied Dibiase to the ring. The duo grabbed mics to speak before the match. Rhodes did a mock DX intro asking the fans "Are you ready?!", then discussed the dawning of a new era in WWE. Rhodes said they didn't just beat DX, they made them tap out. Rhodes said Rock, Stone Cold, Undertaker, Edge and even Orton never made DX tap out. Rhodes said only Legacy has. Dibiase then took over saying how last night's win was historic. Dibiase said last night was just the start, and they won't stop until DX is out of Raw and their lives forever. Rhodes said they will no longer be known as the sons of Dusty Rhodes and Million Dollar Man, because they are known as the Fathers of The Legacy.

Shawn Michaels and Triple H were shown watching the Legacy ring speech on a flat screen backstage. DX started on their way out for the match as Raw went to break. Triple H began to stalk Rhodes outside the ring as the bell sounded with Dibiase going at HBK in the corner. This would be HBK's first action in 6 months time. A brief "you screwed Bret" chant broke out in the crowd as Michael Cole reminded viewers Raw is the longest running weekly episodic on cable.

Late in the match, HBK started to build momentum in his favor, after two atomic drops, a flying forearm from the ropes and chest chops. Dibiase reverse-whipped Michaels to the ropes, and HBK flew back at him with another forearm. Michaels flipped up from the mat then pounced on Dibiase to punch away. HBK climbed the corner and hit an elbow drop on Dibiase. Michaels was still hurting from last night and from Dibiase's attack on his left eye in tonight's match. He stumbled to the corner and began to wind up the band for Sweet Chin Music. Before he could start towards Dibiase, Rhodes yanked Michaels down and pulled him towards the ringpost. The ref called for the bell for a DQ on Legacy.

Triple H attacked Rhodes on the outside, but Rhodes fought back. Michaels went after Dibiase near the crowd barrier and the two wound up fighting into the crowd, as HHH continued brawling with Rhodes ringside. Lillian Garcia ended up running out of her seat as HHH attacked Rhodes near the time keeper aarea. The two wound up in the crowd as well, with HHH seeming to toss Rhodes into a camera. Raw went to commercial with the fight still going.

Winner: Shawn Michaels wins due to disqualification of Ted Dibiase when Cody Rhodes interfered.

Raw returned with no conclusion of the DX-Legacy brawl. Cole and Lawler showed footage again of the finish of the match, where Rhodes interfered, and the brawl broke out. Lawler claimed that at the point the Raw cameraman was knocked down, they lost pictures on their TV monitors and had no transmission anymore.

Hornswoggle & Evan Bourne vs. Chavo Guerrero & Carlito

Highlights were shown of Chavo Guerrero playing Price is Raw last week, and trying to win his match against Evan Bourne to win a brand new car. Hornswoggle came out with a squirt gun which distracted Chavo, allowing Bourne to roll up Chavo for the pin. Rosa Mendes escorted the team of Chavo and Carlito to the ring.

Hornswoggle got things started against Carlito. Carlito walked up with an apple in hand. Horney ran over and rammed into Carlito, then stole his apple, before quickly tagging out to Bourne. Bourne landed a Sunset Flip as Carlito was poking his head through the ropes going at Hornswoggle. Carlito escaped the pin, but was hit by Bourne's drop toehold and low kick to the head. Carlito managed to get over to tag in Chavo. Chavo managed to yank Bourne down across the top rope by his neck, but as Chavo was on the apron, Hornswoggle did a sliding kick into him. Chavo fell and hit chin first on the apron, allowing Bourne to regain control.

Carlito and Chavo started to work on Bourne, as Rosa yelled in Spanish from ringside. Bourne tried to fight back until he was leveled again, with Chavo taking control of things. Bourne started to kick back then ducked a clothesline and hit the headscissors. Bourne with momentum as he knocked Carlito off the apron. He was met by Chavo's elbow in the corner, but still recovered to kick Chavo. Carlito came back in the ring and went for a sneak attack Backstabber. Bourne eluded it and sent Carlito to the outside. He pulled Chavo over towards the corner, then tagged in Horney. Hornswoggle climbed the corner turnbuckle with the apple still in hand. Bourne ran over to jump over the ropes onto Carlito on the outside. Chavo was back on his feet and climbed to go after Horney, but Hornswoggle had eaten some apple and spit the chunks in Chavo's face. Chavo fell to the mat, allowing Hornswoggle to hit the Tadpole Splash for the win.

After the match, Bourne and Hornswoggle were up on the ramp celebrating. Chavo got on the mic and told Hornswoggle "You win, I give up".

Winners: Hornswoggle & Evan Bourne win via pinfall over Carlito and Chavo Guerrero.

Cole and Lawler revisited the Steel Cage match for the WWE Title between Orton and Batista months ago at the Extreme Rules PPV 3 months ago. Batista won it with a Batista Bomb in the ring for the pinfall. The next night on Raw he was injured at the hands of Orton and Legacy, forcing The Animal to relinquish the title.

Josh Matthews interviewed the new WWE Champion John Cena backstage. Matthews asked Cena how he withstood all that punishment from Orton last night. Cena said some people just talk, while others back up what they say. Cena said despite Orton continuously saying the WWE Title was his life, he gave in last night. Cena said 2 weeks ago he made a promise to the WWE Universe "I Will not quit" and at Breaking Point he wanted to give up, but he gave his word and kept it. Cena then said Orton will probably continue to make false promises up until Hell in a Cell. Cena told Orton at Hell in a Cell he promises that Orton will see a more intense, brutal and savage side to him. Cena finished off with "The Champ is Here!"

Cole and Lawler discussed Hell in a Cell. They announced that DX will also face Legacy in a Hell in a Cell match to settle their feud once and for all.

Trish Stratus came out for the mixed tag team match. Her surprise partner was revealed to be Montell Vontavius Porter.

Trish Stratus & MVP vs. Beth Phoenix & Chris Jericho

Trish and Beth started off the match. Beth picked up Trish on her shoulder and quickly rammed her to the corner, followed by a bodyslam. Trish with the recovery and a series of forearm shots and chops to the chest in the corner. Beth came back at her and tried for a hard clothesline, with Trish doing a Matrix style duck move. The two continued to fight with Trish attempting a pin. Jericho rushed in to break it up, so MVP came in and took him out over the ropes. MVP sent Jericho into the crowd barrier. The two divas continued fighting in the ring. Suddenly, Big Show came rushing over to attack MVP ringside. The ref called for the bell for the DQ.

Mark Henry came out to chase off Show and beat on Jericho. The heels soon escaped up the ramp, as Lillian announced Trish and MVP as winners due to DQ. Trish shook her head and requested a mic. She said if Show wants to get involved they'll make this a six person tag match, right now.

Winners: Trish Stratus & MVP win due to disqualification of Chris Jericho and Beth Phoenix.

Trish Stratus, Mark Henry & MVP vs. Beth Phoenix, Big Show & Chris Jericho

When Raw returned the match was in progress. Jericho was in control against MVP, and took several moments to raise his arm for the home territory fans. Jericho continued to dominate, with Trish and Henry trying to rally the crowd. Jericho ran over to strike Henry, causing the ref to have to hold Henry back from entering. MVP started to gain momentum finally, so Jericho made a quick tag out to Beth. Beth started to taunt MVP shoving him and telling him to look at her. MVP kept pointing to Jericho. Beth went for a kick move with MVP grabbing her leg and holding it, then pulling her over so he could tag in Trish. Trish immediately ran and tackled Beth with a series of punches. From there, she called MVP back in and they did a double Ballin' Elbow drop on Phoenix.

Jericho pulled Beth out of the ring, so MVP ran and jumped over the top rope to land on Jericho. Meanwhile, Trish prepared to run against the side rope to run and jump out at Beth, but Big Show tripped Trish down. Mark Henry rushed over to knock Big Show down. Beth quickly crawled over in the ring to pin Trish, who got her shoulder up before 3. Beth was furious and started kicking Trish then tried to whip her to the corner. Trish reversed and charged with Beth elbowing her. Beth sat on the corner, but Trish recovered then did her handstand to throw Beth from the corner. From there, Trish hit her finisher on Beth to win it with 100% Stratusfaction.

Batista was shown walking in a hallway backstage. According to Lawler this is Batista's last match on Raw.

When Raw returned, Cole and Lawler announced that next week's celebrity guest host will be comedian/actor Cedric the Entertainer. Michael Cole called him Cedric the "Sports Entertainer".

Batista vs. Randy Orton
No Holds Barred Match

Batista made his entrance and stared down Orton from up on the corner as Orton stayed safe outside the ring. As the match started, Orton slid to the outside and went for a steel chair. Batista came to the outside and knocked it out of his hands. The two fought with Batista gaining the advantage and putting Orton back in the ring. Orton went for his RKO as Batista tried to come in through the ropes, but Batista escaped it. Orton again escaped outside and went for a weapon under the ring, but Batista was back out to level him.

Orton ultimately took control back in the ring, and began to stomp away on Batista. With Batista down, Orton went outside and got the chair to bring in the ring. Batista was ready and quickly hit a Spear to take Orton down. Orton went outside, with Batista going out to beat him down. Cole noted that Batista bashed Orton's skull off the crowd barricade. Batista continued to punish orton near the barrier by standing on his head. Batista whipped Orton into the steel steps before tossing him back in the ring. Orton went for a RKO as Batista got in the ring with him, but Batista countered to slam Orton down. Orton started to back up the ramp, but as he got up towards the top, Cena's music hit. Cena came out and clotheslined Orton down, then tossed him back into the ring for The Animal.

Batista hit a quick Spinebuster on Orton then gave the thumbs down symbol. He picked up Orton for the Batista Bomb and hit it for the win. Cole said this has been a long time coming, and Smackdown needs to watch out. Raw ended with The Animal posing in the ring corner.

Winner: Batista wins via pinfall over Randy Orton in a No Holds Barred match.

WWE Breaking Point Breakdown: Taker Shocker

Well the 2009 WWE Breaking Point results are in, with no truly shocking moments, beyond the very strange finish of the Pay-Per-View. The event saw just one title change hands really, with John Cena winning the I Quit match against Randy Orton. It was another one of those big Cena survives and conquers moments, where Orton tried to use handcuffs as well as steel chairs, steel steps and nearby Singapore Canes to break Cena down. Cena found a way to win, almost in action movie fashion as he cuffed himself to Orton, and eventually locked him into the STF. Cena will arrive on Monday Night Raw as the brand new WWE Champion.

The strange finish came in the event's final match as Undertaker did battle with CM Punk for the World Heavyweight Title. It was a submission match, and we all know Undertaker doesn't submit. He still officially hasn't. On Smackdown this past Friday General Manager Teddy Long told Mr. McMahon he had something excellent for him at the Pay-Per-View. I'm not sure if that's what Teddy had in mind, but basically he screwed the Undertaker out of a title opportunity. Has Teddy Long turned heel, or just insane? Early in the match, Undertaker locked in the Hell's Gate submission on CM Punk and Punk immediately tapped. Fans thought Taker was new champion, but not so fast. Teddy arrrived on stage to remind everyone that months and months ago, former GM Vickie Guerrero banned the Hell's Gate move, and that still stands. So basically the match was restarted. In the restart, Punk attacked Taker from behind, put on the Anaconda Vice and the ref declared it a submission.

A few things come to mind with this odd outcome. First off, since when did Teddy Long begin backing up Vickie Guerrero, and second why would he not have reinstated the Undertaker's patented submission move before a "Submission match"? It almost looks like the ref was payed off or instructed by Long to throw the match? Very odd finish, perhaps we get the explanation on Smackdown. The fans may have felt a bit cheated by the ending of the newly named Pay-Per-View which will surely generate a little controversy. The next Pay-Per-View is the "Hell in a Cell", which we all know is a classic Undertaker contest.

Other matches of the night saw Kofi Kingston, Christian, and the tag team of Chris Jericho and Big Show retain their titles. Dolph Ziggler was part of a skit prior to the main events where he made corny jokes about Pat Patterson being old, then kicked him, prompting John Morrison to rush out for a save. A match between the two at the Pay-Per-View would have been nice, but maybe WWE felt they didn't have a buildup? Strange, because Ziggler did win a #1 Contender Fatal Fourway weeks ago and was scheduled to fight Mysterio at the Pay-Per-View. Instead there was an under 10 minute Singapore Cane match which saw Kane defeat the Great Khali.

The other Breaking Point matches didn't give much in the way of story or surprises, besides the Legacy-DX match. It was a big win for Legacy as they made Shawn Michaels submit in front of a hostile Montreal crowd. The fans were yelling "you screwed Bret" at HBK throughout the match, and perhaps they got some sweet justice in seeing Michaels tap out. Unfortunately for those fans, no title was involved, and as mentioned above Undertaker may have been the one screwed most in Montreal.

As the two behemoths battled, Show tried for a splash onto Henry in the corner. Henry caught him in the air. Henry went for a bodyslam, with Jericho coming in to kick him so Show would fall on top. Henry kicked out of the pinfall. As the ref was distracted by Show, Jericho got in some cheap shots behind the ref's back.

Jericho tagged in to continue working on Mark Henry. The crowd seemed to be in support of him as they chanted "Y-2-J!" Eventually, Jericho tagged Show back in. Show and Henry collided in the ring, causing both men to hit the mat. The ref made his count, until both men crawled to their corners to tag their partners. MVP had the momentum and hit his Ballin' Elbow drop on Jericho for a near fall. Jericho went for Walls of Jericho, with MVP escaping it. Jericho was able to gain control as he put a reverse chinlock on MVP. MVP rolled him into the small package with Jericho kicking out. Jericho prevented MVP from a tag to Henry. MVP eventually hit a DDT move to break away and make a tag.

Mark Henry came in and pressed Jericho up over his head, then slammed him before hitting a Splash. Big Show came in to break up the pinfall attempt. Henry made sure to knock Show to the outside before pinning Jericho again. Jericho had a foot on the ropes to break it. Jericho went for a Codebreaker, with Henry catching him. Henry lifted Jericho up high then dropped him to the mat. As Henry seemed in control, Big Show managed to get in a knockout punch from outside the ring on him, allowing Jericho to get the winning pinfall.

Winners: Chris Jericho and Big Show win via pinfall over Mark Henry & MVP to retain the Unifited Tag Team Titles.

The Miz vs. Kofi Kingston
United States Title Match

Early in this match, Miz attempted his finisher the Skull Crushing Finale, but Kofi was able to counter. From there, Kofi attacked Miz, jumping on him in the corner, and then used kick strikes on him. Kofi seemed in control, until Miz hit a jawbreaker, then a snap suplex. Miz regained control as the crowd really seemed into this match. After a low blow on Kofi, Miz jumped off the corner with a double axehandle to smash Kofi down. Miz started to stomp away on Kofi, but was eventually tripped, falling face first into the turnbuckle. Kingston gained momentum and set up for his double leg drop on Miz, but Miz countered it. Both men were down on the mat as the ref counted.

Both men traded pinfall attempts as things started to heat up. After a side Russian legsweep, Kingston finally hit his double leg drop on Miz. Kofi flew onto Miz with the crossbody, which Miz turned into a near pinfall. Miz tried another pin, this time a rollup, and held Kofi's tights. Kingston kicked out, and quickly kicked Miz with Trouble in Paradise to take the win.

Winner: Kofi Kingston wins via pinfall over The Miz to retain the United States Championship.

D-Generation X vs. Legacy
Submissions Count Anywhere Match

Early on in this match, all four competitors battled it out at once. The action moved in and out of the ring and into the crowd at one point. The fans in Montreal seemed anti-HBK, but he still fought with Rhodes in the crowd. HBK and Dibiase ended up fighting at the top of the stairway in the crowd, with Triple H and Rhodes battling backstage in the arena.

At one point, HHH and HBK put Cody Rhodes through a chair in the ring, and each slapped on submission moves. Triple H locked in a Boston Crab while Shawn Michaels used a Camel Clutch. Ted Dibiase was able to rush in and make the save for his partner. Triple H and Dibiase continued to fight inside the ring, while HBK and Rhodes went to the outside. HHH with a Spinebuster and then a crossface submission. Rhodes was able to get HBK up on his shoulders in a torture rack type submission, with Triple H leaving the ring to make the save.

With HHH and Rhodes fighting backstage, Triple H put Cody into a storage container. Ted Dibiase made his way back there to sneak up on HHH, and started to punch away on him. Dibiase locked the Million Dollar Dream on HHH with Rhodes looking on. HHH escaped it, and was able to deliver a Spinebuster on Dibiase through a catering table, then locked a Crossface on Rhodes. Dibiase recovered to break it up.

Legacy took control when they smashed HHH with a steel chair, then attacked Michaels up the ramp. The duo pulled Michaels down the ramp by his hair then brought him in the ring. HBK was able to recover before they could do anything and sent Dibiase to the outside. Rhodes rolled HBK into an ankle lock, with HBK able to kick Cody away. As Michaels eventually kicked Cody in the gut, Triple H was shown backstage being helped up.

Legacy continued to work on Shawn Michaels 2-on-1 as Triple H eventually made his way back into the arena, rolling down the ramp. Cody Rhodes had managed to put Shawn Michaels into a Figure four leglock around the ringpost. HHH was unable to make the save in time, as HBK was forced to tap out before his partner could reach the ring area.

Winners: Legacy wins via submission over D-Generation X.

Great Khali vs. Kane
Singapore Cane match

Early on, both wrestlers grabbed Singapore Canes. Kane and Khali battled it out with their canes, before Kane managed to knock Khali to one knee by striking him on the back with his cane. Kane hit a low dropkick on Khali. Khali managed to come back as he grabbed a cane and started hitting Kane. Khali hit the Khali Chop, but failed at the pin attempt. Runjin Singh tried to strike Kane from behind with a cane, but Kane wasn't affected. Kane started to choke Singh, but Khali hit him with yet another Khali chop. Khali checked on Singh, and that moment allowed Kane to grab Khali and chokeslam him for a pinfall win.

Winner: Kane wins via pinfall over The Great Khali in the Singapore Cane match.

William Regal vs. Christian
ECW Title Match

Regal had momentum in this one as he put Christian into several holds, including a surfboard stretch submission to wear him down. Christian escaped it, but Regal caught him with a running knee to his face followed by a near pinfall. In the corner, both men battled it out. Christian hit a Tornado DDT and got a 2 count on Regal. Regal with the comeback as he hit a Regalplex. Christian used a forearm clothesline to level Regal for another near fall.

As the match continued, Regal had control as he struck Christian with forearm shots. Christian countered and nearly hit his Killswitch, with Regal pushing him to the ropes. Regal went for his running knee move, but Christian avoided it and instead hit Killswitch to win the match.

Winner: Christian wins via pinfall over William Regal to retain the ECW Title.

John Cena vs. Randy Orton
WWE Title "I Quit" Match

Early in the match, Orton used a TV monitor on the outside to clock Cena in the head. In the ring, it almost looked like Deja Vu as Orton set up a chair to do another RKO move on Cena. Cena blocked the move and then began his momentum, eventually hitting a Five Knuckle Shuffle. After a near Attitude Adjustment, Orton was able to grab the ropes, then yanked Cena down across the top rope by his neck.

As the match continued, Orton was able to whip Cena into the steel steps outside the ring, then hit him with part of them. From there, Orton yelled at Cena to give up, with Cena refusing to. Orton went under the ring to grab a bag, and revealed a pair of handcuffs along with a key on a chain. Orton cuffed Cena to the top rope, and started to attack Cena unmercifully.

Orton continued to use the cuffs on Cena, bringing him across the turnbuckle at one point. He yelled at Cena not to pass out and threw water at him, with Cena spitting it back at him. Orton then grabbed a nearby Singapore Cane and began to beat on Cena with it. Orton had the cane to Cena's throat, but Cena escaped when he kicked Orton in the groin. Cena fell to the ground, and when he walked over to Orton, The Viper was ready with a steel chair which he smashed on Cena's head.

Orton continued his sinister work with the handcuffs on Cena, uncuffing and re-cuffing him around the ringpost area. Orton used a steel chair shot to try to wear him down even more. Eventually though, Cena landed a backdrop on Orton, and was able to steal the key away from him. Cena uncuffed himself and then cuffed he and Orton together. Cena started to go wild as he attacked Orton with body shots. Orton was able to withstand a near Attitude Adjustment and then hit the RKO on Cena. He tried to drag Cena with him to get the key to unlock the cuffs, but Cena pulled him back to the center of the ring. Cena locked in his STF submission and wrapped part of the cuffs around Orton's throat, eventually leading to Orton yelling "I Quit, I Quit".

Winner: John Cena wins the I Quit Match over Randy Orton to become new WWE Champion.

Undertaker vs. CM Punk
World Heavyweight Submission Match

This match brought the surprise of the night with it. Early on, Punk used a steel chair to bash on Taker after jabbing him in the gut. Back in the ring, Punk did a knee to Taker in the corner, followed b y the running bulldog attempt. Taker blocked that, then went for Old School. Punk tripped him up to put Taker on the ropes crotch first. Punk then superplexed Undertaker in the ring.

The Undertaker and Punk started punching each other back and forth. Taker took control of the match and was about to hit the Chokeslam, but Punk countered it then hit a roundhouse kick to the head. Punk walked towards Taker, but Taker quickly wrapped him up in the Hells Gate submission hold. Taker locked the hold in and after just a few seconds, Punk tapped out, seeming to give Taker the big win.

Teddy Long's music hit and the Smackdown GM arrived out to the ramp. Long informed everyone that Undertaker's "Hell's Gate" Submission hold was banned by former GM Vickie Guerrero a while back, and was never reinstated. Punk said that decision stands, so the match would be restarted.

After the re-start, CM Punk did a sneak attack on Undertaker from behind, then put on the Anaconda Vice submission hold. The referee immediately called for the bell, but Undertaker was never seen tapping out. CM Punk was given the World Heavyweight belt and somehow is still champion in a very strange finish to the Pay-Per-View.

Winner: CM Punk wins to retain the World Heavyweight Title.

WWE Breaking Point 2009 Predictions

The 2009 WWE Breaking Point Pay-Per-View will feature what Vince McMahon calls a first of its kind in Pay-per-views. All of the main event matches will be decided via some sort of submission rules, meaning no pinfalls win, only submission moves. There's three matches that qualify for that stipulation, with DX facing Legacy in a "Submissions Count Anywhere", John Cena facing Randy Orton for the WWE Title in an "I Quit" Match, and CM Punk defending his title against Undertaker in the submission match. Other matches on the card will involve the WWE Unified tag team titles, ECW title and a grudge match between Kane and The Great Khali. Here's predictions courtesy of WWE Characters the Blog for this Sunday's Breaking Point event....Feel free to leave your own comments or match predictions below.

The unique Pay-Per-View takes place this Sunday in the Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec, Canada and is sponsored by the video game Batman Arkham Asylum. You can get full results updated throughout the PPV here at the blog starting Sunday at 8PM EST, up until 11PM EST when final results will be posted here.

The Miz vs. Kofi Kingston
United States Title Match

A late addition to the card will see The Miz trying to make good on his promise to win the US Title. It wouldn't be a shocker if he somehow won, since Kofi's held the title for some time now. However, Kingston most likely retains to carry on the tradition of the US Title being held by wrestlers for longer than any other title these days.

Prediction: Kofi Kingston leaves Breaking Point still US Champ.

William Regal vs. Christian
ECW Title Match

William Regal has been seen showing off his Regal Stretch on various episodes of ECW on SyFy, while Christian hasn't really shown his hand when it comes to a submission move. That would lead you to think he has some trick in the bag that will come out at the Pay-Per-View. This isn't necessarily a win by submission match though, it's just that they've made a big deal of Regal's move. The downside for the current champ is he has to contend with Vladimir Kozlov and Ezekiel Jackson's presence on the outside. Christian finds a way to outsmart the foes again and leaves with his title.

Prediction: Christian retains the ECW title somehow, possibly a DQ finish.

Mark Henry & MVP vs. Chris Jericho & Big Show
Unified Tag Team Championship Match

No disrespect to Henry or MVP, as both are talented in their own rights, but this seems like a match where they needed to make a tag team that looked formidable, just to lose to Jericho and Big Show. At the last Pay-Per-View it was Cryme Tyme, and at this Pay-Per-View it will be Henry/MVP on the losing end. The Unified Champs will continue their bragging and boasting until there is some super team assembled at some point to defeat them. Expect a clean win here, probably a knock out by Big Show on MVP.

Prediction: Chris Jericho and Big Show retain the titles.

Great Khali vs. Kane
Singapore Cane match

In their last encounter, Kane was surprisingly victorious. This will probably be the match people are least concerned with on the card, and it will see The Great Khali pick up the win to avenge Kane's actions against him and his translator Ranjin Singh. Kane will get cracked over the head with the Singapore Cane and pinned by Khali.

Prediction: The Great Khali wins after using the Singapore Cane on Kane.

D-Generation X vs. Legacy
Submissions Count Anywhere Match

It's unfortunate, but it doesn't seem like there's much else for Shawn Michaels and Triple H to do right now beyond feuding with Legacy. At the last Pay-Per-View, Legacy made its triumphant return to action and picked up the win. The feud didn't end there, and it's continued on through episodes of Monday Night Raw. Legacy probably needs a push about now to come off as effective heels, or future second generation superstars. I'll take Legacy with the win, making Michaels submit.

Prediction: Legacy wins by submission outside of the ring.

John Cena vs. Randy Orton
WWE Title "I Quit" Match

Orton has been downright dominant since he's won back the WWE Title, with wins over Triple H, John Cena, and Triple H + John Cena in a Triple Threat. Cena lost in his last attempt due to all that chaos, including Brett Dibiase rushing in to tackle the ref. Orton has the last laugh and last RKO on Cena this past Monday on Raw, as he drove Cena head first into a steel chair in the ring. Orton was also seen stuck in a submission hold by HHH on Raw. I'm going to go with John Cena to win here, since it seems he's bound to win at some point, and why not Breaking Point. Then again, Batista is set to appear on Raw this Monday, so possibly they're saving the title win off Orton for The Animal.

Prediction: John Cena forces Orton to quit and wins the WWE Title.

Undertaker vs. CM Punk
World Heavyweight Submission Match

It's really really hard to see The Undertaker losing in this match. First point, it's rare that we see the Deadman tap out to anyone. Second point, this is really his first match back, and it'd be strange to see it go down as a loss. So unless, Punk uses some trickery (i.e. making the ref think Taker has tapped, knocking Taker out illegally so the ref calls for the bell, etc), then Undertaker has the match here. You have to believe Punk has something up his sleeve, but it's hard to pick against the Undertaker. Taker wins with the Hell's Gate Submission hold to become World Heavyweight Champion...But for how long this time?

Prediction: The Undertaker wins via submission over CM Punk to become World Champion.

(By the way you'll notice that the Intercontinental Title match originally scheduled for the event has been removed for some reason. It was originally going to be Dolph Ziggler versus Rey Mysterio, but John Morrison is the new champ, and Mysterio is currently serving a suspension)

Catch Breaking Point live on Pay-Per-View Sunday, September 13th, 2009 starting at 8PM EST! WWE Breaking Point Results will be posted here starting at 8PM EST on Sunday night up until 11PM EST...Enjoy the PPV!

Smackdown Preview 09.11.09

Tonight's Smackdown comes just two nights ahead of the eagerly anticipated Breaking Point Pay-Per-View. The event will be a new innovation for WWE as all of the main event matches feature Submission matches. Several of Smackdown's stars will be involved in matches on the card, including current World Champion, CM Punk. Punk will have his hands full though, as he'll have to defend the title against the returning Undertaker. Undertaker has sent Punk several messages via vicious chokeslams, with the most recent being last week on Smackdown. Punk was sent right through an announcer's table on last week's show, and The Deadman let everyone know he has Punk's number. At their Breaking Point title match, it will be Submission rules, meaning someone will have to tap out to their other's hold. Undertaker has his Triangle Deathlock, while Punk has the Anaconda. Which of the two superstars will have the momentum heading into this Sunday?

In another story from last week, the Friday night Delight, John Morrison, defeated Rey Mysterio in a classic match for the Intercontinental Title. The match which went for over 20 minutes, saw plenty of tremendous moves and near pinfalls. When all was said and done, Morrison was able to hold onto the corner to prevent Rey Mysterio's Hurricanrana attempt off the ropes. Morrison then quickly flipped off the ropes into his Starship Pain move to land on Mysterio for the winning pinfall. It was an emotional moment for Morrison as he captured the IC title for his third reign. Meanwhile, an interested Dolph Ziggler was watching the match backstage to see who his Breaking Point opponent would be. Ziggler has come close to winning the IC title at several PPV's, but now he'll have to contend with the new champ, Morrison. Both of these young superstars are hungry for the spotlight but only one can claim it at the PPV. How will Morrison and Ziggler prepare on Smackdown for their upcoming title match?

And finally, the Unified Tag Team Champions suffered a set of losses on this past week's episode of Monday Night Raw. In the opening match of the show, Chris Jericho went up against one half of his Breaking Point tag opponents, when he battled MVP. MVP managed to pull off the big win with a pinfall. Later in the show, Big Show and Mark Henry tangled in a "Bodyslam contest". Amazingly, the World's Strongest Man, Mark Henry, prevailed in the contest when he picked up and bodyslammed Show to the mat. The impressive set of victories gives the team of MVP and Mark Henry major momentum as they head into Sunday's event to challenge for the titles. Will Chris Jericho and the Big Show find a way to get back on track prior to Breaking Point?

Catch Smackdown tonight at 8PM EST on MyNetworkTV, just a few days before Breaking Point 2009!

Winner: Kane wins via pinfall over Jimmy Wang Yang.

Yoshi Tatsu vs. Sheamus

Two young stars from the ECW Superstar Initiative faced off in match number two. Sheamus took control early when he knocked Yoshi down on the apron. Sheamus began to work on the back of Yoshi to wear him down, using submission holds and a back suplex for a two count. Yoshi made a comeback when he was able to land a surprise kick on Sheamus. Yoshi kept using kick moves and then tried the inside cradle pin, but only score a two count. Yoshi used several chops and a spinning heel kick, but again only a 2 count. He tried to charge at Sheamus in the corner but received a boot to the face. Sheamus followed up with his finisher the Irish Curse, to break Yoshi across his knee.

Winner: Sheamus wins via pinfall over Yoshi Tatsu.

Nikki Bella vs. Katie Lea

Brie accompanied her twin sister to the ring for the match. Early on, Nikki had the momentum until Katie caught her and used a spinning backbreaker move. Katie began to apply various submission moves including a chin lock to try to wear down Nikki. Nikki fought to her feet with Katie slamming her right back down to the mat.

Katie continued to withstand Nikki's attacks and manhandled her. Katie whipped Nikki to the corner and charged, with Nikki moving out of the way. Katie stopped herself from hitting then grabbed Nikki, who kicked her away. Nikki rolled to the outside, and the ref never noticed Brie Bella climb up to the corner turnbuckle and then hit a flying cross body off the corner for the win.

Winner: Nikki Bella wins via pinfall over Katie Lea.

Slam Master J vs. Dolph Ziggler

Early on, Ziggler and Jeezy exchanged offense, with Jeezy whipping Dolph to the corner. Jeezy charged, with Ziggler tossing him over the ropes. Jeezy landed on the apron feet first, and punched Ziggler, before climbing the corner. Ziggler recovered and knocked Jeezy down to the floor outside. After collecting, Jeezy he sent him into the ring where he hit an elbow drop followed by a chinlock. Ziggler continued the chinlock to wear his opponent down. Jeezy made his comeback as he got to his feet, and tried for a pinfall. Ziggler kicked out, so Jeezy hit a shoulder tackle, again only getting a two count. Ziggler stunned Jeezy with a chinbuster, then used his finisher the Zig Zag to win.

Winner: Dolph Ziggler wins via pinfall over Slam Master J.

Primo & Kofi Kingston vs. Jack Swagger & The Miz

Late in the match, Miz was working on Primo, slamming him, then kicking him in the face. After a chinlock from Miz, Primo fought out. Miz prevented his tag attempt by knocking Kofi from the apron to the floor. From there, Primo ducked Miz' clothesline attempt to hit a side Russian legsweep. Kofi was able to tag in and started to take care of business, as he got up on Miz in the corner to punch away at him. Swagger came over to distract, with Kofi going at him. Swagger dropped off the apron to avoid getting hit.

Kofi had his double legdrop set up on Miz, but Swagger yanked Miz to the outside. Kofi jumped off out at Miz and Swagger, with Jack moving away so Miz got hit by it. Primo got into the mix as he rushed into the ring and ran across to dive out onto Swagger. Kofi brought Miz back inside and was able to hit the high crossbody.Miz reversed Kofi's attempted whip to the corner, causing Kofi to be flung into Swagger on the apron. From there, Miz grabbed the stunned Kingston to hit the Skull Crushing Finale for the win. He and Swagger later celebrated their victory on the ramp as the show ended.

Winners: Jack Swagger & The Miz win via pinfall over Pimo & Kofi Kingston,

ECW Recap 09.08.09

ECW Recap from Rockford, IL:

Josh Matthews and Matt Striker welcomed fans to the show less than a week ahead of Breaking Point, the WWE's "revolutionary new PPV concept". Tonight's main event will feature Christian and Tommy Dreamer teaming up to take on William Regal's henchmen, Vladimir Kozlov and Ezekiel Jackson. The Hurricane's video entrance and music came on to start the show, as Hurricane came out for the opening bout.

The Hurricane vs. Paul Burchill

Katie Lea accompanied her brother to the ring for the match. Hurricane and Burchill each have won against the other once before. Early on after both men ducked each other's clothesline attempts, Hurricane jumped on the corner and flipped back for a flying crossbody onto Burchill. As the two were down on the mat, Burchill was able to take control briefly. Hurricane came back though and was applying a stretch "Octopus" submission, but Burchill picked him to slam Hurricane down.

Burchill had control for a while, then charged at Hurricane near the ropes. Hurricane pulled the top rope down so Burchill flew out of the ring. From there, Hurricane leapt over the top rope onto Burchill with a crossbody. ECW took a break with both men down outside the ring. Outside the ring, Burchill hit a Pele kick on Hurricane, but as they got back in to fight, Burchill charged at Hurricane in the corner. Hurricane moved away and Burchill hit shoulder first to the ringpost. Hurricane took control but couldn't capture the pinfall, so he went to the corner and hit a crossbody. Burchill managed to boot Hurricane as he charged at him in the corner. Burchill then sat on the corner, but Hurricane came over to attack, eventually climbing up. Burchill grabbed Hurricane to hit what Striker called a "Bam Bam" slam off the corner.

Hurricane landed a Hurricanrana from the corner with Burchill, but again Burchill kicked out of the pinfall. Katie Lea got on the side apron to distract Hurricane. He went over and pointed at her, then turned around to go at Burchill. Hurricane avoided Burchill's attack and shoved him into Katie Lea, knocking her off the apron. Hurricane grabbed Burchill from behind and hit the Eye of the Hurricane to collect the pinfall.

Winner: The Hurricane wins via pinfall over Paul Burchill.

Strikers and Matthews discussed the ECW title picture and showed highlights from last week as Christian and Tommy Dreamer went to the ring and used Singapore Canes to attack Vladimir Kozlov and Ezekiel Jackson on the ramp.

Josh Matthews introduced another new female member of ECW's broadcast team backstage, Savannah. Savannah interviewed Tommy Dreamer and Christian backstage. They said they're ready for a fight and taking a stand against Regal and his allies.

Shelton Benjamin & Sheamus vs. & Yoshi Tatsu & Goldust

The Gold Standard and Goldust started off with a frenzy of moves. Goldust after a few hip tosses, was in control, as Shelton backed away to his corner. Sheamus and Yoshi were soon in, with Yoshi delivering a series of kicks to Sheamus in the corners. Shelton distracted Yoshi from the apron, allowing Sheamus to deliver a massive clothesline. The heels started to dominate, until Yoshi was able to duck Shelton near the ropes. Shelton fell to the outside, and then yanked down Goldust so Yoshi couldn't make a tag to him. Yoshi managed to escape though as he fought off Sheamus in the ring, and jumped to tag in Goldust.

Goldust whipped Sheamus from corner to corner. Shelton made a blind tag on Sheamus after he delivered a huge boot to Goldust near their corner. With Goldust down, Shelton snuck into the ring and covered Goldust for the win. Sheamus was not happy with Shelton's taking the pinfall and confronted him after the bell.

Sheamus punched Shelton down to the mat, then prepared to pick him up for a move. Shelton jumped on Sheamus and started punching away, and the two started rolling around to the outside. The brawl continued outside the ring with about 4 referees trying to break it up. At one point they had them separated, but Shelton broke away and tackled Sheamus down again for more punches.

Winners: Shelton Benjamin & Sheamus win via pinfall over Yoshi Tatsu & Goldust.

Rory Fargo vs. Zack Ryder

Ryder took Fargo down early and started to slap him around cockily. Ryder put Fargo onto the middle rope and drove his knee into the amateur's back. Fargo started to punch back, but Ryder yanked his tights to toss him to the corner turnbuckle. After a running boot to Fargo in the corner, Ryder quickly set up the Zack Attack to take the pinfall victory.

Winner: Zack Ryder wins via pinfall over Rory Fargo.

Matthews and Strikers ran down the card for this Sunday's Breaking Point, which includes Christian defending the ECW title against William Regal.

Backstage, new ECW star Tyler Reks spoke to GM Tiffany. Reks said his favorite part of being there is the people. Just then, William Regal came into the room with Jackson and Kozlov. He exchanged words with Reks, and Reks said he'd catch Tiffany later. Regal then asked Tiffany how she could allow Christian and Dreamer to attack his men with weapons last week. Tiffany reminded him of the brutal attack they did on Christian and Dreamer for several weeks. Regal then said his men will demonstrate how ruthless they are in the ring tonight, and he will make Tiffany proud this Sunday when he becomes the new ECW champion.

Tommy Dreamer & Christian vs. Vladimir Kozlov & Ezekiel Jackson

Regal accompanied his men to the ring for the main event. Christian and Kozlov started things off, with Kozlov wrapping his arms around Christian's torso. Christian elbowed out to put a headlock on Kozlov. Kozlov sent Christian at the ropes then rammed him down. The crowd erupted into an E-C-Dub chant early on.

Kozlov went over and tagged in Jackson, so Christian tagged in Dreamer. Jackson shoved Dreamer down early, but Dreamer got right back up and ducked Jackson's punches. Dreamer managed to avoid Jackson as he ran at him, causing Jackson to go outside the ring, landing on his feet. Dreamer made a quick tag to Christian who did a series of baseball slide dropkicks, one to kick Jackson outside the ring and then one to kick Kozlov off the apron. From there, Christian tried to jump on Jackson, but Jackson caught him. Dreamer ran off the apron to jump onto Jackson and Christian.

ECW returned with a double Russian Legsweep by Dreamer and Christian on Jackson. Jackson fought back from the apron to take control against Dreamer, and soon Kozlov was in to punish him. The duo continued their doubleteam efforts to wear Dreamer down. Dreamer kept struggling for a tag, but couldn't get over to Christian. Kozlov set Dreamer in the corner, but Dreamer managed to kick him away, then jumped off the middle ropes to clothesline Kozlov down. Dreamer made the hot tag to Christan who came in to go at Kozlov. Christian kept trying to knock Kozlov down, and after two missile dropkicks Kozlov was down. Christian attacked Jackson on the apron, and at one point was punching back and forth on both Jackson/Kozlov. Kozlov rammed Christian down to the mat, and Jackson tagged in. Jackson soon had the ECW champ in an excruciating submission move.

Kozlov and Jackson worked over Christian, with Kozlov taking control. Kozlov put Christian up in a torture rack, with Dreamer looking on. Christian slid off and punched Kozlov, then tried to jump past him to tag Dreamer. Kozlov caught Christian to cut him off and hit a Fallaway Slam. Jackson was back in again with yet another submission hold to wear Christian down. Christian was able to elude Kozlov in the corner, then jumped off to knock him down. Christian with the tag to Dreamer as Kozlov tagged Jackson.

Dreamer gained serious momentum, eventually hitting a Frogsplash off the corner onto Jackson. Kozlov came in and kicked Dreamer to break up the pin. Christian rushed in and took Kozlov to the outside. Meanwhile, back in the ring Regal came over to the side area to distract Dreamer. Jackson grabbed Dreamer and hit his one armed slam on Dreamer to collect the pinfall.

Regal got in the ring with his thugs and stood over the fallen Dreamer to raise their arms. Regal then put the "Regal Stretch" on Dreamer on the mat. Christian was still outside the ring and tried to pull himself up near the ropes. Regal went over and kicked him to send Christian down towards the crowd barricade.

Winners: Ezekiel Jackson & Vladimir Kozlov win via pinfall over Christian & Tommy Dreamer.

Raw Preview 09.07.09

The celebrity guest hosting will continue with tonight's Labor day edition of Monday Night Raw. While there have been musicians, actors, sports stars and former wrestlers acting as the ones calling the shots for the show, there has yet to be an official game show host in charge. Tonight will see former Price is Right host, Bob Barker, step into the role of Raw's host. Barker just might introduce a new format to the show if he chooses to make matches that incorporate his various games from the popular game show. What sort of price will the superstars of Raw have to pay on tonight's show, as Breaking Point is impending? Will any wrestlers attempt to cross Barker as he is in charge?

Last week's guest host ended up pulling a double-cross move on several of Raw's major stars. The American Dream Dusty Rhodes scheduled a WWE Title match for his son Cody in the main event. All throughout the show, Cody continued to tell Randy Orton he was serious about going through with the main event since it was a golden opportunity. However, when the main event arrived with John Cena as special guest referee, Dusty Rhodes revealed it was a trap, and really a gift he gave to his son. Legacy launched a 3 on 1 attack on Cena, until the arrival of DX. Dusty made sure to thwart their attempts by clocking Triple H on the head with his boot. As Raw was ending, the foes stood triumphantly in the ring with DX and Cena down on the mat. However, Randy Orton had one more twist in store, as he delivered a surprise RKO to guest host Dusty Rhodes! Cody was unsettled by the move and as Raw ended it's unknown if Rhodes and Orton are speaking. What will Orton have to say regarding his actions last week? Will Cena and DX get revenge on tonight's show?

And finally, last week saw an entertaining Fatal Fourway match for the United States title. In the match, Kofi Kingston was pitted against The Miz, Jack Swagger, and Carlito. All three opponents looked impressive as they attempted to capture the US championship. Each was able to get in their finishing move towards the end of the match, but it was the intelligent Kofi Kingston who got the last move, his Trouble in Paradise Kick to knock Carlito to the mat. Kofi took the quick pinfall and escaped with his title still in tact. Kingston continues to enjoy his title reign, but it seems he will still have a target on his back. Which of the three sueprstars from the Fatal Fourway will become the new #1 Contender for Kingston's title?

Catch all of the action of Raw with Bob Barker as guest host, tonight at 9PM EST on USA!

New Breaking Point PPV Matches

Due to the recent developments with Smackdown, two new matches have been added to the 2009 Breaking Point Pay-Per-View card. On the 9/4/09 Smackdown, fans were informed of these matches which come due to Rey Mysterio's Intercontinental title loss, and the current Kane versus Great Khali feud that's been going on for weeks.

The 9/4/09 Smackdown show saw WWE Superstar John Morrison defeat Rey Mysterio for the Intercontinental Title. This will be Morrison's third reign as IC champion, as he previously held the title under his former alias "Johnny Nitro" on RAW. The win also puts Morrison onto the Breaking Point 2009 card where he will defend the belt against Dolph Ziggler. Ziggler came close to beating Mysterio at the last two Pay-Per-View events, with a near pinfall win at Summerslam 2009. It should be a great matchup between two of Smackdown's bright young stars.

The second new match that Todd Grisham and Jim Ross announced on Smackdown will be Kane versus The Great Khali in a Singapore Cane match. This comes in response to their ongoing feud which recently saw Ranjin Singh held captive by Kane in his arena dungeon area. Khali rescued his friend, and following a PPV match, Khali and Singh rushed to the ring on Smackdown to attack Kane with the Singapore Cane. Now the two monsters will be able to use this devastating weapon against each other to inflict major damage!

Earlier in the week, another Raw matchup was added to the Breaking Point 2009 card. In a rematch from Summerslam, D-Generation X (Triple H, Shawn Michaels) will face off with Legacy (Cody Rhodes & Ted Dibiase). This time around it will be a "Submissions Count Anywhere" match, very similar to falls count anywhere, only that submission holds will be the only way to win.

Smackdown Preview 09.04.09

Tonight's Smackdown marks the return of the Phenom, The Undertaker. Taker has been out of action ever since his classic Wrestlemania 25 victory over Shawn Michaels in Texas this past year. The Deadman made his surprise return at the 2009 Summerslam Pay-Per-View in the aftermath of the CM Punk victory over Jeff Hardy. While Punk stood tall over Hardy down on the mat, he gloated with his regained World Heavyweight Title. Suddenly it was lights out for the arena, and the familiar bells of the Undertaker were heard. When the light was restored, Undertaker was laying in Jeff Hardy's spot on the mat. The Deadman grabbed Punk around the neck and proceeded to chokeslam him down to the mat to the delight of the crowd. Now on tonight's Smackdown, Undertaker will reveal himself once again in his return to his show. What will Undertaker have to say regarding his appearance at Summerslam and what he did to CM Punk? Will the new Straight Edge superstar have something to say regarding his banishing Jeff Hardy from WWE?

Also, it appears as if Intercontinental Champion Rey Mysterio's days are numbered. The biggest little man has held the title for quite some time after defeating Chris Jericho. However, Dolph Ziggler has come increasingly closer to defeating Rey for the belt at each Pay-Per-View. Ziggler is currently the #1 Contender, having won a Fatal Fourway match on Smackdown. He's also attacked Mysterio several times to attempt to gain an advantage. Last week saw yet another vicious attack by Ziggler on Mysterio. The two are scheduled to compete at Breaking Point, but Rey Mysterio was also recently suspended for 30 days. What will become of the Intercontinental title and the title match at Breaking Point in 2 weeks?

The Unified tag team champions also continue to be on a roll as they head towards Breaking Point. The dynamic duo of Jericho and Big Show will face the newly formed team of MVP and Mark Henry. On this past week's episode of Raw, Chris Jericho notched an impressive win over MVP by hitting a Codebreaker out of nowhere to score the pinfall. Meanwhile, Big Show and Mark Henry faced off in a battle of the big men. Both of these behemoths were able to knock their opponent to the mat, but ultimately it was Big Show cheating which put Henry down for good. Show lost the match due to a disqualification, and left Henry KO'd after a vicious knockout punch. What will be next for Big Show and Chris Jericho as they prepare to defend their tag titles yet again?

Catch all of the action of Smackdown tonight at 8PM EST on MyNetworkTV!

ECW Shines: Shelton, Ryder, Goldust

Breaking Point update:
A match has been added to the lineup which includes D-Generation X taking on Legacy in a "Submissions count anywhere match", supposedly a first of its kind.

If you missed last night's episode of ECW on SyFy, you missed two great wrestling matches. In one encounter, Shelton Benjamin went up against Zack Ryder to continue their recent feud. In another match, the main event, it was Goldust taking on Sheamus in a No DQ, No Countout match.

When I first saw Goldust's name announced as part of the trade to ECW I didn't think much of it, but he's definitely putting on some good performances against Sheamus. Goldust makes a smarter addition to the ECW lineup than I originally thought because he can help the young guns make a name and get the start of a push they need. Case in point is the Celtic Warrior, Sheamus, another guy I wasn't big on until last night's match. He looked like he could hang with Ezekiel Jackson and Vladimir Kozlov after last night's showcase main event. And honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if Regal adds him to the mix of foreign, ruthless talent to stack the odds against Christian, Tommy Dreamer and the rest of the roster. I don't see anyone out of the new talent initiative beyond Sheamus making a big name for themselves in WWE, although Yoshi Tatsu probably has that silly Funaki type appeal, unfortunately, because he seems to have some skills.

Now on to Shelton vs. Zack Ryder. I've never been a huge Shelton fan, but last night made me even more convinced that this guy's the real deal. If anyone on the roster deserves an ECW title shot it's Shelton, and if anyone deserves to wear that belt beyond Christian, it's also Shelton. He picked up an excellent win against opponent Zack Ryder last night, as he sprang off the ropes and landed a flip/neckbreaker move in amazing fashion. The guy's a true worker, he's rarely injured, and for some reason he hasn't been rewarded with the ECW title....yet. He should be because it's highly doubtful WWE will give him the World or WWE title at this point.

As for Kozlov and Jackson, a truly dominating tag team. Granted they don't seem to fight anyone beyond amateur jobbers, but these guys should be facing Jericho/Show at Breaking Point. I could easily see Kozlov & Jackson as the Unified Tag Team champions, and that just may be in the cards for the future. Problem is, WWE would prefer keeping its tag title between Smackdown or Raw right now, when ECW gets less of the spotlight.

There was also a new addition to the Abraham Washington show, which I found humorous. Mark Henry's former cornerman, Tony Atlas, is now like Dave Letterman's Paul, or Jay Leno's Branford Marsalis...basically Atlas stood near a mic, introduced Abraham Washington and laughed throughout the bit as if everything everyone said was funny. Honestly, Abe is really generating some major heat, so maybe he'll translate that into more of a career as someone's manager. Nonetheless, some good action on the show last night, including a music video highlight version of Taker vs. Michaels from Wrestlemania 25.

Next week, let's hope for more great action as The Hurricane (Gregory Helms) faces Paul Burchill in another feud showdown.

Raw Preview 08.31.09

Tonight's Raw will feature a guest host who is a true legend in the ranks of WWE wrestling. The American Dream Dusty Rhodes will officially fill in as the show's guest host, and the Hall of Famer is sure to have some surprises in store. One of the last times Rhodes was seen on Raw or with WWE involved his confrontation and battles with "The Legend Killer" Randy Orton. The feud spilled over to include Cody Rhodes as well. As we all know now, Cody has formed an allegiance with Orton and is part of the second generation superstar team called "Legacy". When Ted Dibiase's father hosted the show he tried to show his son some tough love, and wound up getting slapped in the face. What will The American Dream have in store for Cody, Dibiase, Orton and the rest of WWE Raw's roster?

Also, last week saw D-Generation X emerge victorious in a six-man tag match against Legacy with Orton. Vince McMahon scored the winning birthday pin on Orton, but only after John Cena had rushed to the ramp and beat up Orton. Cena brought him into the ring for an Attitude Adjustment, and the rest was history. Vince, Cena and DX celebrated in the ring, and Randy Orton is sure to be unhappy with the results. What will Orton and Legacy have in store for Cena and DX on tonight's show?

And the United States Championship picture seems to have gained two top contenders. On Raw, The Miz pulled off a victory against Santino Marella, then grabbed a mic to declare his intentions. Miz put Kofi Kingston on notice, letting him know he's be at the front of the line for the US Title. But just days later, another Raw superstar, Jack Swagger, had an impressive win of his own on WWE Superstars against Primo Colon. Post-match, Swagger also got on the mic to declare that he was the two-time All American American, and would be hunting down Kofi Kingston for the US Title. Which of these two contenders will become the #1 Contender for Kofi's championship? Will a match be scheduled on Raw for the title?

Catch Raw tonight at 9PM EST on USA for all the exciting action!

Breaking Point 2009 PPV Matches

Vince McMahon came out on the August 24th, 2009 episode of WWE's Monday Night Raw to announce an innovative new Pay-Per-View concept. The next WWE PPV will be appropriately titled "Breaking Point". The main event matches on the card will all be fought as "submission matches", meaning making your opponent submit is the only way to win. This could be difficult for champions Randy Orton and CM Punk as neither of these stars uses a regular submission hold to win matches. However, their opponents, John Cena and Undertaker both have a lethal submission move in their arsenal. Here's a look at the matches scheduled so far for Breaking Point 2009 PPV. Check back as more matches are added to the card!

John Cena vs. Randy Orton
WWE Title "I Quit" Match

John Cena and Randy Orton's match at Summerslam 2009 was definitely one with plenty of interruptions and distractions. Orton in typical fashion, looked for every possible way to escape with his title still in his possession. He attempted to DQ himself by shoving the ref and tried to walk off for a countout. Due to orders of Mr. McMahon, the match was restarted twice with stipulations that if Orton left or got DQ'd, he'd lose his title. John Cena was poised to win, and slapped a STF on Orton. Just as Orton appeared ready to tap out, a random fan from the stands rushed into the ring and tackled the referee. Once order was restored to the ring, Orton was able to RKO Cena through the ropes from outside the ring. As he returned to the ring he hit a second RKO to capture the pinfall win against Cena, but the results were a little less than satisfying for Cena. On Monday Night Raw, WWE Chairman Vince McMahon announced that the two would meet again, this time at Breaking Point in a submission match. This match seems to favor John Cena, who has the STF as a submission move in his arsenal, but Orton is always a Viper ready to strike. Which superstar will make their opponent say the words "I Quit" and walk out with the WWE title?

Undertaker vs. CM Punk
World Heavyweight Submission Match

The big surprise of Summerslam came after CM Punk had defeated Jeff Hardy for the title in a TLC Match. Punk stood triumphantly over the fallen Hardy on the mat, but to his shock and everyone's in the arena, the lights shut off. Next a familiar sound was heard, the bells of the Undertaker tolling. As the lights returned, Undertaker was laying in the place of Jeff Hardy. He promptly grabbed CM Punk and chokeslammed him to the mat, signifying The Undertaker has returned. On the following episode of Smackdown, Punk challenged Jeff Hardy to a "Loser Leaves WWE" match inside a steel cage. Punk was able to pick up the win, sending Hardy out of WWE. However, according to GM Teddy Long, the winner of that match gets a tough task at the Breaking PPV; a submission match against the Deadman! Undertaker is well known for making much bigger opponents submit to him in the ring. Will CM Punk find a way to make the Undertaker tap?

Dolph Ziggler vs. John Morrison
Intercontinental Title Match

Ziggler has been inching closer and closer to his first big title win in the ranks of the WWE, according to Smackdown's commentators Jim Ross and Todd Grisham. Ziggler has the beautiful Maria as his support, making his mission all the stronger. In two previous PPV attempts, Ziggler failed to capture the title, but is continuing to improve, and used different strategies on the former champion Rey Mysterio. However, the title picture changed about a week or so before the PPV, with Smackdown's John Morrison challenging Rey Mysterio on Smackdown, and beating him for the Intercontinental Title. Now the PPV will see Ziggler take on John Morrison at the PPV in what is sure to be an exciting contest between the two stars. This marks Morrison's third reign as the IC champ. Ziggler was shown studying the match backstage between the two stars on Smackdown, preparing for whoever won.

Which of these two superstars will win the battle at Breaking Point? Will Ziggler finally capture singles gold, or will John Morrison successfully defend in his first title bout?

William Regal vs. Christian
ECW Title Match

While this is not a submission match according to WWE.com, Regal has been showing off his submission move on recent episodes of ECW on SyFy. The Regal Stretch was most recently applied to ECW original, Tommy Dreamer after a tag match on the show. Additionally, Regal's got two huge henchmen who will accompany him to the ring in Ezekiel Jackson and Vladimir Kozlov. The two have been known to create distractions from ringside, and even interfere in the outcomes of matches. With that sort of help, the odds may seem stacked against Christian. Will Captain Charisma find a way to retain the ECW championship, or will former King of the Ring William Regal finally capture the title?

Mark Henry & MVP vs. Chris Jericho & Big Show
Unified Tag Team Championship Match

On the 08/24/09 episode of Raw, Chris Jericho and Big Show were in the ring cutting yet another promo on their greatness. During their speech, Big Show began to talk about how scared Floyd Mayweather was to be in the same building with him, knowing that Show wanted to destroy him. Mayweather came to the ring to talk about how he would do what he did to Show at last year's Wrestlemania again. Show and Jericho began to bully the boxing star host of Raw, until MVP arrived to the ramp to interrupt. MVP told Jericho and Show to stop running their mouths so much, and then ended up challenging them to a tag team match on Raw. If MVP and his selected partner won the match, they'd get a shot at the Unified Tag Team Titles at Breaking Point. MVP's selected partner? The World's Strongest Man, Mark Henry. The duo was able to withstand Jericho and Show's doubleteams and trickery during the match and won, sending them to the Breaking Point PPV to fight for the belts. Will these recently formed tag team be able to gel and capture the tag titles? Or will Show and Jericho continue their dominant performance?

Great Khali vs. Kane
Singapore Cane match

These two have been engaged in a vicious feud for weeks now, to determine which of the two giants is the biggest beast of Smackdown. Kane took things to a new level when he kidnapped Khali's translator and friend, Ranjin Singh, then kept him as a hostage in the arena. Khali went for the save and rescued his friend, but Kane soon attacked, giving Khali a beatdown. Weeks later, Singh and Khali rushed to the ring to attack Kane using a Singapore Cane on him, setting up the match for Breaking Point. Which of these two Smackdown superstars will win the war of weapons, Khali or Kane?

D-Generation X vs. Legacy
Submissions Count Anywhere Match

In what is being billed as a first of its kind matchup, Legacy (Cody Rhodes & Ted Dibiase) will face D-Generation X (Shawn Michaels and Triple H) in a "Submissions Count Anywhere match". As recently seen on Raw, the action can break out all over the arena, and even outside of it! With that in mind, weapons and objects might come into play. Both teams are ready for the matchup, with recent displays on Monday Night Raw, but the fight that ended the show saw Legacy running away from DX, stealing a car and leaving the scene. Now on Sunday, DX gets their hands on the second generation stars. Which team will prevail in this new WWE match and make their opponents submit?

Catch Breaking Point live on Pay-Per-View Sunday, September 13th, 2009 starting at 8PM EST!

Mysterio Intercontinental Title Situation

With the news just a few days ago that Rey Mysterio will be receiving a 30 day suspension starting next week, fans may be wondering what will become of his championship status or Breaking Point match. It would seem at this point that the title will somehow be moved off him due to the suspension, much like it was moved off Jeff Hardy a year or so ago when he was suspended. In the past, certain wrestlers have appeared at one TV show taping or PPV despite their suspension. In this case, it's questionable whether Rey will do that with Breaking Point.

My best guess is we're going to either see Ziggler win the title on Smackdown next Tuesday, or we'll see another match happen on Smackdown to determine another contender for Rey's title. Of course if it's the second option, WWE will have to explain how the title was vacated. I still think we'll get an Intercontinental Title match at Breaking Point with Ziggler as championg going in or coming out of the PPV.

So the likely opponent we'll see for the IC title at Breaking Point? Well we may see a Mike Knox vs. Finlay match on Smackdown. They could also hold a mini tournament and give Ziggler a bye for the first round. I'd venture that Kane and John Morrison would make other good contenders as well as Matt Hardy. It'd be great to see a Morrison vs. Ziggler match for Breaking Point, so let's hope it goes that direction, rather than Ziggler-Finlay.

Smackdown Recap 08.28.09

Smackdown Recap from Phoenix, AZ:

Jim Ross introduced fans to Phoenix, the home of Wrestlemania 26. After discussing tonight's main event steel cage match, CM Punk was introduced as the new World Heavyweight Champion. Punk came to the ring and began to tell the crowd "I told you so", then had footage shown of how he won at the TLC match at Summerslam. Punk said it was the most brutal match of his career so far. He then spoke about how he's a pioneer in wrestling, because nobody in WWE knows what a Straight Edge world champ is. He said he was being forced to compete in a cage match tonight and it was unfair, but he would prove again why he's best in the world.

Jeff Hardy came out to interrupt, slapping hands with fans as he limped to the ring. Jeff told Punk there's 3 words more important than his "just say no" and those are "steel cage match". Punk accused Hardy of being intoxicated or being on painkillers since he was brave enough to come back to the ring. Punk then started saying he was sick and tired of Jeff Hardy, so he told him if he likes risks he had one for him tonight. Punk challenged Jeff to a "Loser leaves WWE" match, and if Jeff lost it would prove Punk's lifestyle was better than his. Jeff contemplated it for a moment then told Punk he was on. After a staredown between these two, Teddy Long came out to the ramp and said the match would be official. Long added the winner will face Undertaker in a World Heavyweight Title match at Breaking Point.

Matt Hardy & John Morrison vs. The Hart Dynasty

In a quick match there was some good back and forth action between these teams. However, it was Hardy and Morrison prevailing as John Morrison hit Starship Pain for the win, in a match that was just under 4 minutes long.

Winners: Matt Hardy & John Morrison win via pinfall over The Hart Dynasty

Melina tried to tell Maria backstage that she saw Dolph Ziggler hanging out with another woman during Summerslam weekend. Maria said Melina must be jealous of them. Melina walked off and Ziggler came walking up. Maria confronted him, with Ziggler saying it was his sister. Maria bought it and the couple walked off together.

R-Truth vs. Drew McIntyre

As R-Truth made his lengthy entrance with the "What's Up?" song, he tried to enter the ring. McIntyre immediately booted Truth down, then kept punching away on him before delivering a DDT.

After the attack, McIntyre grabbed a mic to mockingly say he was sorry for ruining their little party. McIntyre said it seems the crowd likes seeing someone rap and dance to the ring, but "my name is Drew McIntyre and the party is over".

Winner: Match was a draw/no contest since the match never officially started.

Melina defeats Layla

Melina was introduced and was standing next to the commentary table on crutches. She told everyone that she couldn't compete because Melina injured her knee last week, then said Melina ruined the night for everyone. Michelle introduced her handpicked replacement, Layla.

In an incredibly quick divas match, Melina was able to defeat Layla by pinfall in less than 2 minutes. After her win, she left the ring, walked over to Michelle and shoved her down. Michelle began grabbing her knee in pain.

Winner: Melina wins via pinfall over Layla.

A recap of the celebrities and events of Summerslam Axxess was shown, before Rey Mysterio made his ring entrance for the next match. JR and Grisham noted that Dolph Ziggler won a Triple Threat match on Superstars to become #1 Contender for the Intercontinental Title.

Rey Mysterio vs. Kane

In a five minute match, Rey was able to knock Kane to the outside then tried to run and jump at him off the apron. Kane avoided the strike then booted Rey in his head to take him down. The Big Red Machine then picked up Rey and continually rammed him into the ring post. The referee finally called for the bell to DQ Kane for his actions.

Post-match, Great Khali and Ranjin Singh rushed down to the ring. Khali cleared Kane out of the ring, and then Singh hit him with a kendo stick. Khali grabbed Singh by the neck, but Khali saved him by smashing the kendo stick on Kane repeatedly. Kane eventually retreated backstage. In the ring, Dolph Ziggler hit his finisher on Rey.

Winner: Rey Mysterio wins due to disqualification of Kane.

Cryme Tyme vs. Chris Jericho & Big Show

Before a scheduled singles match, Chris Jericho and Big Show hit the ring. Jericho was booked to fight Shad from Cryme Tyme one-on-one. He talked about Floyd Mayweather helping MVP & Mark Henry cheat to win their match on Raw, then said they won't have any chance of beating them at Breaking Point.

Early on, Shad Gaspar was able to slam Jericho several times, before Big Show pulled Jericho out of the ring. JTG came over and got into it with Big Show. With the situation going on, GM Teddy Long came out to the ramp and said they would continue this after the break, but it would be a tag team contest instead. Big Show hit a knockout punch on Shad for the pinfall win.

As the match resumed, Shad was in control of Jericho and beating on him. Big Show made a blind tag to Jericho. Show got into the ring and hit Shad with his Knockout punch to score the pinfall victory.

Winners: Chris Jericho & Big Show win via pinfall over Cryme Tyme.

Backstage, Matt Hardy told his brother Jeff he hopes he knows what he's getting into tonight. Matt told Jeff to go win the cage match and get back his title, then they can take over Smackdown together. Jeff told Matt he lives for the moment, and now is that moment.

The steel cage began to lower down around the ring, as Jim Ross contemplated whether CM Punk or Jeff Hardy would be forced to leave WWE tonight.

CM Punk vs. Jeff Hardy
Loser Leaves WWE Steel Cage Match

While Jeff was making his way to the ring, CM Punk rushed out to ambush attack him. Punk beat him up a bit before rolling Jeff into the cage for the match to start.

Early on, Punk went for several escapes while Jeff was ailing inside the cage. Jeff stopped each try, then had a near pinfall before a commercial. After that break, Hardy was making his move to climb out of the cage with Punk stopping him. Jeff kicked him down then hit a flying cross body off the tip rope. At one point, Punk was climbing the ropes to try to get up to the top of the cage, then noticed Jeff was trying to exit out the cage door. Punk went over to stop Jeff from escaping.

After a commercial break, these two continued battling with Jeff making an attempt to escape the cage. Punk grabbed him by the leg and the two fought. Jeff had his legs dangling over the side of the cage, and Punk kept holding onto Jeff's upper body to prevent his escape. Punk was eventually able to superplex Jeff down into the ring with a great move.

Punk again climbed to make his escape, with Jeff able to catch up to him. Punk gave a thumb to Jeff's eyes, then slammed his head into the top of the cage, causing Jeff to fall down to the mat. Punk then descended outside the cage to the ground to win the match. He laughed and waved mockingly goodbye to Jeff in the ring. JR and Grisham discussed how it was the end of Jeff Hardy's great career and the start of Punk's Straight Edge reign.

Punk made his way up the ramp, with Jeff still in the ring sitting up to look at the crowd. As Hardy got to his feet he got applause from the audience, while camera shots were shown of various upset fans in the crowd. Jeff apologized on the mic if he let anyone down and said sorry they'll be seeing Punk on Smackdown, not him. Jeff said if the time's right in the future, he's sure he'll see the WWE Universe again. Jeff said with Matt there's still at least one Hardy on the show.

As Jeff left the ring he took off his shirt and arm sleeve covers to give to fans. More female fans were shown crying. Hardy raised his hand up at the top of the ramp, but out of nowhere CM Punk came back out and smashed him with the World Heavyweight Championship.
