Smackdown Recap 09.25.09

Smackdown Recap from Tulsa, OK:

Smackdown opened with a recap of last week's events involving Teddy Long admitting he screwed the Undertaker out of the World Heavyweight title at Breaking Point. Video footage was shown of the CM Punk vs. Undertaker match where the ref immediately called for the bell even though the Undertaker never tapped out. Then, video was shown of Long getting into the limo last week which he found himself trapped in, as smoke filled the backseat and Undertaker drove him away.

World Heavyweight Champion CM Punk was introduced and came down to the ring to speak. Punk began to preach again, telling the fans how he's only the straight edge champion in WWE history. He then ran down his accomplishments: back to back Money in the Bank Ladder match wins, banishing Jeff Hardy from the WWE, and his "crowning achievement" - making the Undertaker tap out at Breaking Point. Punk said he did that without help from drugs or the fans. Punk said he'd call someone out who could treat him respectfully as he deserves and tell him his next opponent. Punk paused but nobody came out, so Punk said there must be nodoby left. Just then, the lights went out in the arena, and the ancient, ominous chanting began which symbolizes the Undertaker's druids.

The Undertaker's druids walked with a casket down to the ring. Punk quickly got out of the ring, grabbed a chair, and started to poke and kick at the casket, thinking Undertaker was in there. He finally opened it up with caution to reveal that GM Teddy Long was in there gagged and bound. Punk made light of it saying Long looked horrible like he had been on an "all night bender" like the people in the crowd go on. Punk finally rolled Teddy into the ring and untied him. Out of breath and looking terrified, Long said effective immediately there's no longer a ban on Undertaker's Hell's Gate submission. Long then added in one week from Sunday, Punk will defend the World Heavyweight Title against Undertaker inside Hell in a Cell. Long capped it off by informing Punk he'd be facing Undertaker in a non-title match on tonight's show.

Finlay & John Morrison vs. Mike Knox & Dolph Ziggler

Early on, Finlay had serious momentum and was going after aggressively. Knox finally took him down, and was able to tag in Ziggler, who put on a rear chin-lock to keep Finlay down. After a commercial break, Knox had control of Finlay, also using a chinlock. Finlay stood to drop his weight down, hitting the jawbreaker on Knox. Knox quickly clotheslined him right back down. Knox and Ziggler continued to prevent Finlay from tagging while wearing him down. Ziggler had Finlay in the corner but missed on a splash attempt hitting the turnbuckle. Both men tagged their partners in, with Morrison able to hit a Hurricanrana on Knox, as well as a standing shooting starpress. Morrison got the 2 count only. Knox kicked Morrison from the corner then ran over to knock Finlay off the apron. Morrison recovered and hit a flying chuck kick to take Knox down. Ziggler rushed in to stop Morrison's pin attempt. Knox went for a crossbody on Morrison, with John moving so Knox landed on Ziggler. The ref checked on Ziggler as Knox backed Morrison to the corner. Finlay snuck back in to clock Knox from behind with the shillaleigh, then Morrison hit the Starship Pain to win it.

Winners: Finlay & John Morrison win via pinfall over Dolph Ziggler & Mike Knox.

Backstage, Cryme Tyme & Eve tried to teach Slam Master J some tricks of the trade so he could be down with them. JTG gave him a spray paint can and directed him towards the locker rooms. Eve and Cryme Tyme started joking that J won't do it. When Jeezy returned he had some WWE/WCW DVD's with him as well. Cryme Tyme and Eve seemed impressed with J's work, with JTG starting to say there's a time to talk, but just then they heard Teddy Long angrily yell "who in the hell did this?" Cryme Tyme and Eve quickly fled the scene, leaving J with a spray can in hand. Long came up to J and asked if he just defaced his office. J admitted to it proudly then challenged Teddy to do something about it. Teddy said he's got a match next.

Slam Master J vs. Kane

Jeezy had the unfortunate punishment of having to face Kane in singles competition, as Teddy Long's retribution for the defacing of his office. JR reminded fans that Kane just manhandled Matt Hardy the night before on WWE Superstars.

Kane immediately went to work whipping J to the ropes, who came back and slid under his legs then tried for offense. Kane quickly recovered to whip him to the corner, clothesline him and then hit the Sidewalk Slam. Kane went for the Chokeslam quick, finishing off J in under a minute.

Cryme Tyme and Eve were shown backstage afterwords, watching the ended match. JR said that nobody has pinned Kane or made him submit since his return to Smackdown.

Winner: Kane wins via pinfall over Slam Master J.

Backstage, CM Punk found Vince McMahon and begged him to overturn Teddy Long's decision. Vince told Punk he should have considered that when he conspired with Long and the referee to fix his match at the Breaking Point PPV.

Vince McMahon arrived to the ring to address the crowd. Vince invited the fans to a special presentation of a decade celebration of Smackdown next week. McMahon said they will honor Smackdown with the superstars who paved the way, such as Stone Cold & The Rock. He also said Undertaker and Batista will be praised, and D-Generation X, as well as John Cena. Vince said they'll also include the present and the future of WWE on the show, including a guy he personally signed himself. Vince said this guy will be a future world champion, and introduced Scotland's Drew McIntyre.

McIntyre got in the ring and Vince left. Drew began to cockily hype his talents saying nobody on the roster can match his potential or aggressiveness, then reprimanded Teddy Long for not recognizing his talents. McIntyre said next week they'll celebrate the greats like Rock and Stone Cold, but for the weeks after next week, it'll all be about him. He said they'll be a big party to welcome him to the show. Just then R-Truth's music hit and he came out from the crowd with his rap song entrance. Truth told McIntyre to allow him to welcome him to the show. Truth got in the ring and the two men began brawling. Finally, WWE officials got into the ring to break things up.

Show grabbed him for a Chokeslam, but Batista elbowed out then dropped Show to the mat by taking out his leg. Batista put an ankle lock on Show, with Show looking to tap out. Jericho got in to cause the DQ, so Batista put him into the ankle lock as well, with Jericho frantically tapping out. The ref got involved to break it up, with Jericho rolling out of the ring. Show limped on the outside as Jericho kept holding his ankle.

Backstage, Vince McMahon came into Teddy Long's office and shook his hand, then asked why he looked so awful with his suit torn. McMahon asked for an explanation with Long saying he'd been to hell and back. Vince said he warned him there'd be consequences for what he did to Undertaker. Vince asked Teddy where his picture was that he asked for last week. Long said it wasn't finished yet though, Vince said he wanted to see it anyways, yelling at Teddy. Teddy quickly walked off and retrieved the picture to hang it up. Vince became more angry as he put the painting was spray painted with red "Vinnie 2 Da Mac". Vince said he'll make "Hell" look like Sunday school to Teddy for this.

JTG had Smith on the ropes using his boots on him. Smith regained control to level JTG with a clothesline, then used the armbar submission. JTG started to come back as he kept running from off the ropes to take Smith down with shoulder blocks. Smith whipped JTG to the corner, then ran at him, with JTG elbowing him, then coming off the corner for a leg drop. JTG went for the pin but it was near the ropes, allowing Natalya to grab Smith's leg and place it on the ropes. Kidd yelled for the ref, so he stopped the count. A melee broke out as Eve ran over to beat on Natalya who eventually rolled into the ring. No DQ, as the ref tried to get Natalya out of their. JTG was still near the ropes as Shad was restraining Eve. Kidd ran over and jumped up to kick JTG in the head, allowing Smith to pin him as the ref turned around.

Backstage, Josh Matthews interviewed Batista. Matthews asked Batista to speak on the rumors surrounding him possibly going against Jericho and Big Show at Hell in a Cell for the tag titles. Batista said he's got a partner who's one of his closest friends in the world and one of the best entertainers in the business. Batista warned Show and Jericho they've got their number, and his partner's number is "619" indicating Mysterio.

Undertaker vs. CM Punk

Punk arrived to the ring first, as the Smackdown announce team recapped Long's earlier announcements. A commercial break followed, and then Undertaker was introduced. Once the Deadman was there, the match started off with Taker cornering Punk. Punk did a lot of kicks on Taker to escape, but Undertaker grabbed him and tossed him to the outside, as Smackdown took another commercial break.

After they returned, Punk had a sideheadlock cinched in on Undertaker in the ring. Undertaker escaped that and once again threw Punk outside the ring. Taker went out to retrieve him, with Punk running away from the Phenom. Punk got back in and waited on Undertaker to enter thinking he could get the upperhand. Instead, Undertaker wound up in control using elbow drops and then a leg drop onto Punk on the side of the apron. Taker continued the beatdown on Punk outside the ring then tossed him back in. He went for Old School, but Punk was able to stop him on the top rope, then tried for a suplex from the corner area. Taker punched Punk down from the corner. Punk got back up once again and this time successfully suplexed Taker off the corner. Punk tried for the pin but only got a 2.

Punk locked on a headscissors to wear down his opponent. Undertaker finally pushed Punk off the hold, and then grabbed Punk around the throat for a chokeslam. Punk hit Taker in the legs to break it up. Taker punched away on Punk, then clotheslined Punk into the corner. He hit Snake Eyes and then a big boot shot to the World Champ. Taker only got a 2 count out if it, then went for another Chokeslam. Punk kicked Undertaker in the head, but the Deadman responded quickly with Hell's Gate. Punk managed to get his feet to the ropes to break the hold. Punk went out of the ring to grab his belt as if he was going to walk off from the match. Undertaker went out after him, and tried to Powerbomb Punk on the announcer's table. Punk slid off Undertaker's shoulders and quickly got into the ring to win it by countout.

Winner: CM Punk wins due to countout of The Undertaker.
