WWE Superstars Recap 10.1.09

The 10/1/09 episode of WWE Superstars on WGN aired just three days ahead of the 2009 Hell in a Cell Pay-Per-View. The show featured wrestlers from Raw, ECW & Smackdown in different matches. ECW's up-and-coming superstar, Sheamus, did battle with Tyler Reks. For Raw it was a preview of two-thirds of the upcoming US Championship Triple Threat match with The Miz vs. Kofi Kingston in the main event. Smackdown's Cryme Tyme came out with WWE Diva Eve Torres to start things off as JR and Todd Grisham were commentating.

Here's the full match-by-match results for the 10/1/09 WWE Superstars on WGN:

Shad vs. Tyson Kidd

Kidd arrived to the ring with the rest of the Hart Dynasty. Last Friday, Grisham reminded fans DH Smith defeated JTG on Smackdown. Midway through the match, Kidd was outside the ring and Shad went out to drop him face first on the apron. With Kidd leaning against the ringpost, Shad charged at him, but Kidd moves and Shad hurt his leg, allowing Kidd to take advantage. Kidd used the ringpost to wrap up Shad's legs and apply pressure. He dropped to the outside then turned to shove JTG. JTG and Eve came over just as Hart Dynasty came up, and an argument gave way to a commercial break.

Tyson Kidd had a leg submission hold locked in after break. He finally broke the hold then dropped a knee on Shad's leg, continuing to hobble the big man. Shad finally got a break when he was able to kick Kidd to the outside. Kidd recovered, slid in under the ropes and then dropkicked Shad in the knee. Shad finally was able to clothesline Kidd down several times then hit a backdrop. Shad had a pinfall with Kidd putting his foot on the ropes. Kidd hit an impressive move when he was dumped over the ropes by Shad but landed on both feet. Kidd yanked the big man down by the throat across the top ropes, then got on the top rope for a springboard. Unfortunately for Kidd, Gaspar caught him and slammed him down for his finisher to win.

The Hart Dynasty were clearly upset on the outside as they helped Kidd out of the ring. Eve & JTG celebrated with Shad in the ring.

Winner: Shad wins via pinfall over Tyson Kidd.

Ask the Divas segment aired which included Natalya, Layla, Bella Twins, Eve, Mickie James, Alicia Fox, Beth Phoenix, and Michelle McCool answering various "Dear Divas" questions about relationships and what they wanted to be when they grew up.

ECW star Sheamus was shown backstage en route to the ring for his match.

Tyler Reks vs. Sheamus

Sheamus began to dominate after being knocked to the outside early by Reks. He hit a barrage of moves including a kick to Reks' gut from the ropes. Reks managed to regain some momentum when Sheamus missed on a elbow drop. Reks with a series of moves including slamming Sheamus to the mat face first. Reks with an elbow drop after trying to get the crowd riled up. Reks with just the two count, tried to whip Sheamus to the corner. Sheamus reversed it and whipped Reks then charged but got hit by the elbow. As Reks came at Sheamus from the corner he was met by a huge boot "pump kick" to the face, allowing Sheamus to get the pin.

Winner: Sheamus wins via pinfall over Tyler Reks.

WWE Superstars returned with a reminder of Hell in a Cell's theme song and then showed the rise of Randy Orton to his diabolical position on Raw. Cole and Lawler were in the commentary seats to introduced a promo video of the Cena vs Orton rivalry and how it's progressed from Raw to the various PPV's. Cole and Lawler ran down the lineup of matches for Sunday's event including Legacy vs DX and Undertaker vs CM Punk, both in Hell in a Cell matches.

Kofi Kingston vs. The Miz

Raw's superstars fought the main event with the current US champ Kingston in a non-title match against The Miz. Kofi with the early advantage as he wrenched Miz' arm behind his back, but Miz soon turned it around and got Kofi down with the similar hold. Kofi flipped Miz down then used fastpaced moves to keep up the momentum. He put a headlock on Miz but got shoved to the corner, only to recover and kick Miz from the corner. A failed pin led to another headlock by Kofi, with Miz grabbing his hair to pull him back to the corner. Miz hammered away with the ref pulling him away. Miz landed his running clothesling in the corner, then got to the top rope. As he jumped though, Kofi punched him in the gut, then tried another pin with Miz kicking out.

Kofi began his quick offense again, eventually delivering a kick to send Miz outside the ring. Kofi prepared to jump over the top rope, but Miz headed up the ramp to avoid it. After a commercial, Kingston was in control again as he elbowed Miz down in the ring. Miz reverse whipped him to the other corner, but Kofi get a leg up. Miz grabbed his leg and dropped down to take control. Miz began to work on Kofi's hurt left leg. He finally missed on an elbow drop, so Kofi caught him in a chinlock. Miz picked up Kofi and slammed him down knee to knee to hobble him. Miz started to put pressure on the leg on the ropes, until Kofi kicked him to the outside. Miz went to get back in, then dropped off the apron to trip Kofi down. Miz started pulling his leg against the ringpost for more damage.

With Kofi seated on the mat, Miz ran and kicked him in the face, but could only get a two count. Kofi again kicked Miz, sending him to the corner, then tried a pin. Kofi finally got to his feet to start punching away, then used chops. He missed on a move so Miz clipped his leg. Miz put a half sharpshooter on with Kofi grabbing the ropes. Miz ran from against the ropes and Kofi avoided him to shove him against the other ropes. As Miz bounced back, Kofi hit Trouble in Paradise kick out of nowhere to win it.

Post match, Jack Swagger got in the ring and attacked Kofi from behind. Swagger put Kofi on the mat, then as Miz got back to his feet, Swagger grabbed him and did the Gutwrench Powerbomb. Swagger was all riled up as Superstars left the air.

Winner: Kofi Kingston wins via pinfall over The Miz.
