ECW Recap 09.29.09

ECW Recap from Boston, MA:

ECW opened with William Regal looking directly at the camera from a back office. He regretfully informed the fans that ECW GM Tiffany was involved in a car accident earlier. Regal said she'll make a full recovery but is at home tending to her injuries tonight. Regal said the WWE board of directors appointed him as interim GM for now due to his past experience. Regal said he was instructed not to make any decisions for matches with regards to the ECW title such as #1 Contender matches. Regal said tonight's main event will be Christian vs. Zack Ryder, and Vladimir Kozlov, Ezekiel Jackson and himself in a 4-on-1 handicap match.

Tony Atlas was introduced up on stage so he could introduce the Abraham Washington show. Atlas said tonight's guest is the IC champ John Morrison. Abraham hyped up Hell in a Cell as well as the Smackdown decade celebration. Washington introduced his guest former ECW champ and current IC champ, John Morrison. Morrison made some remarks about his former partner The Miz, saying he'll never be in the Hall of Fame. Morrison then discussed his opponent for Sunday, Dolph Ziggler, saying he won't be winning the IC title. Ziggler made his way out to add his two cents. Abe Washington told Ziggler he wasn't booked for the show but to have his people call to schedule something. Ziggler motioned for Washington to stop talking then was about to say something. Morrison interrupted and told him "say good night Mr. Ziggles" causing Ziggler to get angry. Washington wrapped up the show and his music hit with Ziggler still seated as Morrison stood up to stare him down. Morrison, Washington and Atlas walked backstage with Ziggler still sitting on the couch looking upset.

Backstage, Regal was on his cell phone taking orders from someone, saying he had to reprimand Christian for last week. He said he would do as they wished, and hung up. Zack Ryder came in to discuss the fact his main event match was changed. Regal told him he didn't care what Ryder wants, and said the main event's been changed. It's now the four of them versus Christian, Yoshi Tatsu, Tommy Dreamer and Goldust. Ryder mumbled that if he hadn't messed with the main event to begin with it wouldn't have happened. Regal asked if he was questioning his authority and Ryder said "you know it" before walking off.

Shelton Benjamin vs. Paul Burchill

Katie Lea was at ringside for support of her brother. Replay footage was shown from last week's encounter between Benjamin and Sheamus on Abe Washington's show, with the two ending up brawling on the ramp.

Before Shelton even reached the ring for tonight's match he was attacked by Sheamus on the ramp. Sheamus started to punch away as the ref came out and waved him off. Sheamus kept up his attack and shoved Shelton into the ringpost. Sheamus started choking Shelton then tossed him into the ring for Burchill to have a go at. Shelton was having trouble standing on his feet and the ref asked if he still wanted the match. Shelton finally got up with the ropes and the ref called for the match to begin. Burchill immediately attacked, ramming Shelton into the corner. Burchill continued to dominate as he kicked and stomped on Benjamin near the ropes.

After a break, Shelton was trying to battle back despite a hurt left shoulder. Burchill recovered and tossed Shelton back onto the mat on his hurt shoulder, then started working on it more. Burchill went for a standing suplex, with Shelton able to flip over his back and land on his two feet then quickly hit a neckbreaker. Both men were down as the ref counted. Shelton ended up seated on the corner with Burchill climbing up to try a superplex. Shelton punched him down, but was having trouble getting on the corner. He went for a move and missed badly, landing on his back. Burchill after a near fall went back to working the hurt shoulder. Shelton managed to get on one knee and threw Burchill into the corner face first. The two began trading punches, but Burchill threw a shoulder to knock him down. Burchill went against the ropes to come at Shelton, and Shelton hit Paydirt out of nowhere to win.

Winner: Shelton Benjamin wins via pinfall over Paul Burchill.

Josh Matthews reminded fans of the big 8 man tag team match for the main event.

When ECW returned they hyped up the WWE Title match for Hell in a Cell this Sunday, showing a background promo video about the John Cena and Randy Orton saga. It covered Orton torturing Cena at Breaking Point, and Cena withstanding it all. Cena said he wouldn't quit and didn't. The two will now fight again at Hell in a Cell for the WWE Title inside the cell. On last night's Raw, fans got a preview as Cena made it to face Randy Orton in the third match of his Gauntlet match. A steel cage lowered around the ring and Cena and Orton ended up fighting up on top, with Cena delivering an Attitude Adjustment to Randy Orton.

Josh Matthews and Matt Striker ran down the list of various matches for this Sunday's PPV.

Christian talked to Tommy Dreamer in the locker room backstage. Christian told him he already knows what war's like in ECW, and that's where they're facing tonight. Next he went to Yoshi Tatsu and told him he's the new blood of ECW, so they need him to step up tonight. Finally, he got to Goldust and said he's an important part of the team so he can lead the charge. Goldust put his hand out for the others and said on 3, then started stuttering incoherently. Everyone else repeated his strange noise in unison then left the locker room.

Goldust, Yoshi Tatsu, Tommy Dreamer & Christian vs. Zack Ryder, Vladimir Kozlov, Ezekiel Jackson & Zack Ryder

Regal and his henchman arrived first to the ring, then awaited their partner Zack Ryder. Next out was Goldust, followed by Tommy Dreamer, Yoshi Tatsu and then the ECW champ, Christian.

Dreamer started things off, taking control of Ryder then tagging in Goldust. Goldust managed to withstand an attack from Kozlov, to tag in Yoshi Tatsu, who came in to deliver a chop move on Kozlov. Jackson made a tag in and tried to manhandle Tatsu. Tatsu eluded Jackson's moves and tagged Goldust back in, who big Zeke soon took control of. From there, it was Regal and then Ryder. Goldust escaped Ryder with a bulldog move to tag in Christian who came in punching away on Ryder. Christian worked to take down the heels off the ramp. Ryder went for the Zack Attack, but Christian blocked it and hit the Flash point, but couldn't score the 3 count. Dreamer tagged in to help Christian with a double side slam on Ryder.

Dreamer ended up missing a move off the corner, allowing the heels to take control into commercial break. They continued to play keep away with Dreamer when ECW returned, keeping him near their corner. Regal punched away unmercifully almost taunting Regal. Dreamer managed to escape from Jackson and made a diving tag to bring Christian in. Christian looked to run against the side ropes, but Kozlov pulled the top rope down and the champ fell outside. Jackson brought him back in with a suplex, and then did a series of backbreaker slam moves across his knee. Regal tagged in to continue the dominance, but Christian started fighting back.

Things ended up in tag team match chaos, with all men getting involved. Tatsu and Ryder were legal. Christian did a move where he jumped off the ropes out onto Dreamer, Goldust, Kozlov and Jackson at once. Ryder managed to push himself back towards the ropes, so Regal reached down and tagged in. Regal came at Yoshi, but he was able to score a huge roundhouse kick to knock Regal out for the big win. Everyone celebrated Yoshi's big move in the ring as ECW went off the air.

Winners: Yoshi Tatsu, Godlust, Tommy Dreamer and Christian win via pinfall over Zack Ryder, Ezekiel Jackson, Vladimir Kozlov and William Regal.
