WWE Superstars Recap 01.28.02

Michael Cole and Jerry Lawler from Raw were on hand to kick off tonight's show, as they announced in one match a spot in the Royal Rumble match will be on the line. The Bella Twins came out to start off the show. Michael Cole said there will be a Triple Threat match between Carlito, Primo and Chris Masters to determine a spot in the Royal Rumble.

The Bella Twins vs. Katie Lea & Jillian Hall

Brie and Katie started it off, with Brie getting a quick takedown. She backed up and tagged in Nikki quick so the duo could do a double leg move on Katie. Katie recovered to ram Nikki to the corner where she tagged in Jillian. Jillian tossed Nikki by her hair to the mat, then applied a submission hold for a bit. Nikki managed to make a comeback from the corner with a flying cross body for a nearfall. Brie tagged back in for another double team move and near fall.

Jillian managed to shove Brie off her from the corner, then choked her against the bottom rope. Katie Lea walked over and kicked Brie as the ref was distracted. Brie tried to gain momentum, but Katie cut it short with a backbreaker. Brie finally escaped the corner and ducked a Katie Lea clothesline to tag in Nikki. Nikki had serious momentum as she took down Katie several times and went over to punch Jillian. Brie managed to score a pinfall by getting on Katie's shoulders and rolling her weight forward for the pin. Nikki rushed in to jump and clothesline down Jillian.

Winners: The Bella Twins win via pinfall over Katie Lea and Jillian.

Later tonight from Smackdown, Matt Hardy takes on DH Smith in singles action.

Primo vs. Chris Masters vs. Carlito

The winner of this Triple Threat gets a spot in the 2010 Royal Rumble match. Early on in the match, both Chris Masters and Primo became knocked to the outside of the ring. Chavo took the opportunity to launch himself off the corner ropes to crash down on both men for added injury outside the ring.

Eve watched as Masters started to dominate in the ring, but Primo was able to hold him off. Primo knocked Masters back but then as he did a springboard, Chavo took him down from the air and began the Tres Amigos suplexes. On one attempt, Primo rolled Chavo into a pinfall, with Chavo kicking out. Masters recovered and Primo ended up getting knocked outside the ring. From there, Masters cinched on a Masterlock on Chavo, who nearly grabbed the ropes. Chavo dropped to his knees as he wore down, and Masters finally won to earn a spot in the Royal Rumble. Eve joined Masters in the ring to celebrate his victory.

Winner: Chris Masters wins via submission over Primo Guerrero to earn a spot in the 2010 Royal Rumble match.

Highlights were shown from last Friday's Smackdown where Matt Hardy and Great Khali teamed up to take on The Hart Dynasty. Khali became distracted as Natalya started flirting with him and took him by the hand to lead him up the ramp. Meanwhile, Matt Hardy was still able to fend off a doubleteam attack from Hart Dynasty and roll up DH Smith for the pinfall victory. Those two will meet in a match tonight.

As Superstars returned, they thanked Skillet for the Royal Rumble theme song "Hero" off their album "Awake". Todd Grisham and Matt Striker were now providing commentary for Smackdown. They introduced the stats video about the Royal Rumble match through the years, which included a total of 23 different winners, although 627 superstars have tried to win the match since 1988, but have been eliminated.

The pyro went off for Chris Jericho, as Jericho came down the ramp in a suit. Jericho told the fans that he's sick of every other WWE Superstar spitting lies about how they'll win the Royal Rumble. Jericho said he will win the 2010 Royal Rumble to add it to his list of accomplishments. Just then, he was interrupted by R-Truth who came out rapping "What's Up?" Truth told Jericho he's right that he's the best at what he does, being a loudmouth who runs his mouth constantly. Truth called Jericho that pimple that always arrives at the wrong time. Truth called Jericho a liar, because he said he will win the Rumble and go on to main event Wrestlemania. Truth said if he's got the chance he'll be the one to eliminate Jericho. Truth went to yell on the mic, with Jericho trying to strike him. Instead, Truth blocked it and went off, eventually hitting his spinning uppercut forearm with Jericho rolling to the outside to escape.

Matt Hardy vs. DH Smith

A Smackdown main event finished off the Superstars program. The Hart Dynasty arrived first with their manager/valet Natalya. Next, was Matt Hardy, accompanied by his new friends, The Great Khali and Ranjan Singh. Natalya shot a flirty look over at Khali as she and the Dynasty cleared out of the ring for Hardy and Khali's entrance.

Before a commercial break, Matt Hardy prepared to jump off the corner to land on Smith outside but Natalya and Kidd protected him from the attack. Great Khali walked around to their side to give an intimidating glare at them as Superstars went to commercial. The show returned with DH Smith in control using various holds to wear down hardy, after Matt had some brief offensive attacks. Smith targeted Matt's left arm and shoulder which appeared to have been tweaked. Natalya ran over to slap Hardy in the face near the ropes as Smith had the ref distracted.

In the closing moments, Matt gained momentum back as he elbowed Smith coming at him in the corner. After a running bulldog and near fall on Smith, Hardy hit the Side Effect for another near fall. Matt climbed to the corner for what looked like an attempted reverse Moonsault. Natalya ran over to distract him, eventually causing Matt to drop back down to the mat. As he was near the ropes, and the ref was distracted, Tyson Kidd got on the apron to yank Hardy's hurt arm down across the top rope. Hardy stumbled back in pain, and then was met by a huge boot kick from DH Smith for a winning pinfall. On the outside, Natalya distracted Khali by being flirtatious again.

Great Khali got into the ring to clothesline DH Smith out and then toss Kidd out. Todd Grisham said if Khali does this on Sunday he may be your Royal Rumble winner. Khali helped Matt Hardy up, while Natalya tended to the Hart Dynasty outside. As Khali and Matt celebrated, Khali grabbed Matt and threw him out over the ropes as practice for this Sunday's Rumble. Hardy stared back into the ring at him surprised at the turn of events.

Winner: DH Smith wins via pinfall over Matt Hardy.
