Smackdown Recap 03.12.10

Smackdown recap from Seattle, WA:

The show opened sans pyrotechnics. Grisham reminded fans that Wrestlemania is two weeks away from Sunday. On tonight's show the Highlight Reel returns with Edge as Jericho's guest.

Rey Mysterio made his way out to open the show. Mysterio arrived to the ramp in street clothes, then had his wife, son and daughter accompany him to the ring. Striker and Grisham discussed how this is unusual to see Mysterio bring his wife and kids out. Mysterio said the WWE Universe has welcomed him into their homes, so he wants them to meet his familia. Rey introduced his son Dominic, wife Angie and young daughter Aliya. Rey said tonight is his daughter's 9th birthday. The fans began to chant "Happy Birthday" for her. Mysterio lead the fans in singing Happy Birthday to her.

Suddenly, before they could even finish the song, CM Punk's music hit and the Straightedge Society came out to the ramp. Punk lead Serena and Luke Gallows down the ramp into the ring, as Mysterio stood in front of his family. His daughter looked "terrified" of Punk and his crew. CM Punk said not to stop on account of him, then started singing the rest of the "Happy Birthday" song, but Mysterio covered his daughter's ears. Punk told Rey he's not there to hurt him or his family.

Punk officially challenged Rey Mysterio to a match for Wrestlemania 26 as well as tonight on Smackdown, right now. Punk told Rey's daughter since it was her birthday she can shut her eyes while Punk beats away on her dad. Punk told Dominic he looks all grown up, but he probably wants to plug his ears while Rey screams out in pain during a match. Punk then turned his attention to Rey's wife and told her it will be the worst of times when Punk does what he does to Rey. Punk taunted Rey asking if he was afraid to fight Punk in front of his family. Punk called Rey a "coward" right to his face continuously. Mysterio took off his jewelry, preparing to fight. The crowd began a 6-1-9 chant, with Punk asking him where his machismo's at. Punk got down on his knees, saying now he's on Rey's level for a fight.

Punk slapped Rey in the face, and Rey went over to him. Mysterio told his family to leave the ring, and he left along with them. Punk continued taunting on the mic calling Rey a coward as Rey's family went up the ramp. Punk started up his Happy Birthday song again for Aliyah as Rey went backstage enraged.

As Smackdown returned, Striker and Grisham

talked about how Punk berated and humbled

Mysterio in front of his family. The Miz

arrived out with his WWE NXT rookie Daniel

Bryan. They showed highlights from this past

Monday's Raw when Truth and Morrison took out

the MizShow before a match could even happen.

According to Grisham, Truth and Morrison were

intentionally disqualified for beating up

MizShow before a match.

Miz spoke on the mic about what happened,

asking the fans if they believe Morrison and

Truth can defeat them at Wrestlemania for the

titles. Miz said he and Show will prove at

that match they are the most dominant force in

the WWE. R-Truth arrived out to perform

"What's Up" on his way to the ring with his WWE NXT rookie David Otunga.

R-Truth vs. The Miz

In the late stages of the match, Miz and Truth traded off pinfalls. Miz tried for one using the ropes for leverage on it. His WWE NXT rookie Daniel Bryan shoved his legs off the ropes, then played dumb about it. Miz was enraged as he turned to stare down Bryan. Truth came back with the Lie Detector to pick up the victory.

Winner: R-Truth wins via pinfall over The Miz.

Striker thanked Audioslave for "Be Yourself" one of the Wrestlemania 26 theme songs. They cut to a shot of Seattle's farmer's market where you can catch a fish.

A video was shown highlighting the Undertaker's Wrestlemania win streak set to a Johnny Cash song. John Cena, CM Punk, Big Show and Triple H were among those who gave their thoughts about the streak. March 28th will feature the rematch: The Career vs. The Streak as Shawn Michaels goes up against Undertaker at Wrestlemania 26. Grisham and Striker discussed other matches for the event including Cena vs. Batista (WWE title), Bret Hart vs. Vince McMahon, Sheamus vs. Triple H, and Edge vs Jericho (World Heavyweight title).

Backstage, Intercontinental Champion Drew McIntyre was walking down the hall as he passed GM Teddy Long's office. Long came out and reminded Drew he was defeated in both of his MITB qualifying matches, only to have Mr. McMahon expunge both the losses. Long said here he is again for a third opportunity and said McIntyre must be proud. McIntyre said tonight he's proud he'll qualify for the Wrestlemania match. Long said Mr. McMahon handpicked his opponent for tonight. McIntyre said Mr. McMahon is Teddy's boss. Teddy said he knows, and while he's still on probation, he can change the match stipulations. Tonight it will be a Money in the Bank Qualifying and Intercontinental championship match, so winner takes all.

Aaron Bolo vs. Drew McIntyre
Winner takes all match

The winner will be the IC champ and qualify for the WM26 MITB match. They showed highlights from the past 2 weeks when McIntyre lost his two MITB qualifying matches to Kane and Matt Hardy.

Tony Chimel introduced Drew's opponent Aaron Bolo as a 3-time Washington State national wrestling champion and MMA champ from Seattle, Washington. Drew McIntyre smirked about his handpicked opponent as he arrived to the ring.

McIntyre began unloading on his opponent to start it off and didn't let up. He eventually put the double underhook DDT on the amateur opponent and hit it for the pinfall win. McIntyre rushed out of the ring and demanded for Matt Striker to tell all the fans at home he is going to Wrestlemania, so Striker did it.

Winner: Drew McIntyre wins via pinfall over Aaron Bolo to qualify for the Wrestlemania 26 and retain the Intercontinental championship.

There's now 9 competitors in the Money in the Bank Ladder match: Christian, Shelton Benjamin, Jack Swagger, Drew McIntyre, Kane, Evan Bourne, Matt Hardy, Dolph Ziggler and MVP.

Big Show was walking backstage on his way out for the next match, against John Morrison.

John Morrison vs. Big Show

Morrison went for the quick strike attack to start, but Show soon leveled him. Show tossed JMo into the corner and slapped his chest. Morrison tried to fight back in the ring with Show delivering a headbutt to keep dominating. He walked on Morrison's chest and kept yelling at him on the mat.

Show applied a sleeper hold with Morrison elbowing him to try to break it. He eventually got a leg onto the ropes to break it, but Show gave him a big boot to send Morrison to the outside. Morrison started to get in the ring, but Show picked him up. As Morrison got in he did a spin kick, then got a boot in Show's face in the corner. Morrison dropkicked Show's leg, then tried to attack in the corner.

Morrison went to attack in the corner. Show went for a Chokeslam, but Morrison escaped then dropped to his feet on the apron. He scored a kick on Show, then a missile dropkick off the corner for a near fall. After a Shining Wizard, Morrison had another near fall with Show escaping. Morrison tried to do a springboard kick from the ropes, but Show connected with his KO punch on JMo in the air to finally win it.

Winner: Big Show wins via pinfall over John Morrison.

Striker talked about how WWE.com is promoting the divas as part of Women's History Month. There's hundreds of photos of every Women's Champion throughout history.

Backstage, Teddy Long wished WWE Diva Tiffany (his former ECW assistant) back, saying he missed her. Tiffany said the same and she's looking forward to working with all the Smackdown divas. Vickie walked in and Teddy introduced Tiffany. Vickie said Tiffany is the reason ECW got shut down but Teddy said that's not true. Vickie reminded Tiffany that she's her superior and makes all the decisions around there. Teddy said Tiffany's there to compete not be in the management role. Vickie began laughing about it, then told Tiffany to go get her gear on, she'll be facing Womens Champ Michelle McCool tonight.

Cryme Tyme vs. The Hart Dynasty

Kidd was able to take out JTG's left leg early in the corner, then targeted the knee. Kidd went for a single leg Boston Crab and let out a primal scream. JTG suffered with it and was about to tap.

All of a sudden, the Undertaker's bells sounded and the lights went out. When they came back, Undertaker was standing in the ring with JTG and Kidd. He took out Kidd, then Smith. Shad got up to check on Kidd, and Taker grabbed him by the throat for a Chokeslam. Taker did the Last Ride on Kidd, then the Tombstone Piledriver on Smith. JTG was still on the mat holding his hurt knee. Taker stared at him and JTG pleaded with him not to go after him. Taker pulled JTG into the center of the ring and put on the Hell's Gate submission aka Devil's Triangle move. He released it after a few moments of JTG writhing in pain. Taker left carnage in the ring with all four wrestlers down on the mat, then looked up at the Wrestlemania 26 banner hanging up.

Winner: No contest due to Undertaker's interference.

Raw Rebound was up next to highlight the buildup between Cena and Batista, leading to their Wrestlemania 26 WWE title match. Batista attacked Cena during this past Monday's No DQ handicap Gauntlet match against Vince McMahon. Vince had several wrestlers help him try to wear down Cena for the pin including Drew McIntyre, Mark Henry and Jack Swagger. With Batista's help, and a Batista Bomb, Vince got the win over Cena.

Striker and Grisham reminded fans that this coming Monday on Raw, Stone Cold Steve Austin will be guest host and will preside over the Vince McMahon-Bret Hart contract signing for WM26. There will be a series of Wrestlemania Rewind matches: Shawn Michaels vs. Chris Jericho, Triple H vs. Randy Orton and John Cena vs. Big Show.

WWE Women's Champion Michelle McCool arrived out along with Vickie Guerrero and Layla for the next match.

Tiffany vs. Michelle McCool

Tiffany came out wearing a short tennis style skirt and purple halter top along with white boots for the match. McCool shoved her down to start things off, then began to do pushups and jumping jacks to taunt her. Tiffany went after but Michelle ducked out of the ropes.

Tiffany started landing several moves including a dropkick and then kicked Michelle out of the ring. Tiffany went out of the ring to attack McCool, slamming her face first into the apron and mat. Vickie and Layla looked concerned and tried to give support to McCool. Tiffany whipped McCool into the barrier hard, then tried to whip her against the apron. McCool held onto the barrier to prevent it. Vickie Guerrero rushed over and hit a shoulder tackle to knock Tiffany down. The ref called for the bell immediately.

Michelle began to attack Tiffany near the barrier, then brought her back in the ring for more. Team LayCool attacked Tiffany in the corner while Vickie looked on. Suddenly, Beth Phoenix rushed to the ring and made a save. She attacked Layla and McCool, eventually clearing the ring of them both. Vickie was still there, so Beth went over to get her next. Vickie pleaded with Beth who had her arm. Beth smiled and let go, then Vickie thought she was safe. Beth went over and brought Vickie down to the mat, then prepared for the GlamSlam. Luckiy for Vickie, Team LayCool rushed back in to save her. Beth clotheslined LayCool back out of the ring, then helped raise Tiffany's arm up.

Winner: Tiffany wins due to disqualification against Michelle McCool.

Kane was shown walking backstage on the way to the ring.

Kane vs. Luke Gallows

Kane had the odds against him as Punk and Serena were on the outside to offer Luke Gallows support. Striker said he bets every parent and kid is rooting for Kane to beat Gallows tonight. Striker kept talking about how awful it is for Mysterio to be disrespected in front of his family.

Early on, Kane blasted Gallows with a clothesline from out of the corner, then smashed him face first into the other corner. Kane continued to punch away on Gallows, but Gallows ducked a clothesline then hit a flying shoulder tackle to take Kane down. Gallows missed on an elbow drop, allowing Kane to recover and dropkick him. Kane was ready for the Chokeslam, but Punk helped Gallows escape the ring to avoid it.

When Smackdown returned, Gallows was taking it to Kane in the ring. He punched him down then hit a suplex. They showed Punk's WWE NXT rookie Darren Young watching the match on a flatscreen backstage. Gallows continued to dominate and hit a huge splash on Kane for a near fall. Gallows hammered away on Kane with Punk applauding him outside the ring.

Kane soon gained the advantage and clotheslined Gallows in the corner, then hit a Sidewalk slam. After a near fall, Kane hit his clothesline off the corner. Kane went for the Chokeslam, but Gallows elbowed Kane and clotheslined him down. Kane finally hit the chokeslam, but he stumbled. CM Punk rushed into the ring and interfered, causing the DQ. He beat away on Kane then put Kane up for the GTS and hit it. As Punk looked down at Kane, Rey Mysterio's music hit. Mysterio came walking out from backstage and tossed off his shirt. Mysterio chased Punk outside the ring and began to beat on him unmercifully. They fought over the crowd barrier into the audience. Mysterio knocked Punk back out to ringside, but several refs restrained Mysterio from attacking any further. Punk ran backstage.

Winner: Kane wins due to disqualification when CM Punk interfered in the match.

Smackdown returned with Chris Jericho in the ring for "The Highlight Reel" show. He didn't even introduce the show's guest on the mic, instead after Jericho's music finished, Edge's theme started. Out came the Rated-R Superstar to the ramp for his pyro display, and then he went down to the ring.

With Edge in the ring, the fans started to chant "Spear" and Jericho asked Edge what's so funny since he's smiling. Edge said the show's called "Highlight Reel" but the only recent highlight he can recall is how Edge keeps hitting him with a certain move. Edge asked the crowd what it's called and they all yelled "spear" several times. Jericho said it seems Edge has a bunch of sheep chanting for him. Jericho said he's an honest man and always tells the truth. Jericho reminded Edge they could have been the greatest tag team in history, but Edge decided to get hurt. Jericho said Edge is always on the "cusp of greatness" but then gets injured.

Jericho asked Edge how many days, months and years he's missed due to injury. Edge reminded Jericho that he lost to Shawn Michaels at Wrestlemania 19, then lost to Christian at Wrestlemania 20. Edge said it's true he's been injured in the past, because he takes risk and only knows how to do this job one way. He reminded Jericho he's dove off ladders, landed in thumbtacks and gone face first into flaming tables. Edge says he faces adversity without fear, and has no regrets. Edge stated he'll take any risk necessary at Wrestlemania 26 to get his World title back.

Jericho said Edge took a big risk by choosing to face him at Wrestlemania. Jericho said the best Edge ever did was when he was with Vickie Guerrero. Edge admitted everyone has that girlfriend they regretted having, then said for him it was Vickie, for Jericho it was The Big Show. Edge said he takes calculated risks, and he'll use them to beat Jericho for the title. Jericho again reminded Edge that bad things happen when Edge is around him. Jericho said he thinks Edge returning early will cost him, because he's not fully healed.

Edge said he'll make Jericho an ex-champion at Wrestlemania 26, after he hits him with a "spear". Jericho responded by clocking Edge in the face, then using one of the stools in the ring on Edge. He continued to kick away on Edge, then slapped him with his suit coat. Jericho taunted Edge asking if he wants to hit him with a spear now. Jericho tried to throw Edge into the Jeritron TV screen, but Edge blocked it and sent Jericho against the ropes. He grabbed Jericho for a DDT move to plant him into the mat. Jericho crawled over to the corner and grabbed his World Title. As he clutched the belt, Edge set up for a Spear. He went for it, but Jericho was ready this time and clocked Edge with the World Heavyweight title. He picked up the mic and started up his own Spear chant as he pointed at the fans, then dropped to the mat and said Spear right in Edge's face.

Smackdown closed with Jericho's theme music, Edge layed out on the mat, and Jericho showing off his World Championship belt.
