Raw Recap 04.03.10

Raw Recap from Jacksonville, FL:

Raw opened with the highlights from last week's main event on the Raw WWE Draft show - the Triple Threat match for the #1 Contender spot. Orton, Batista and Sheamus battled for the chance to face Cena for the WWE Title. Orton had the match won, but the newest draft pick for Raw, Edge, came in and speared Orton down to allow Batista to get the winning pinfall. They showed the opening Raw theme song video, but now with some of the new draft picks merged in such as R-Truth, Morrison, Edge and Jericho.

Tonight we see the return of "The Cutting Edge" when Edge has special guest Randy Orton in the ring.

The Animal Batista made his way down to the ring in wrestling attire. He had the spotlight shine down on him. Batista complained about having to win the #1 contender spot when he should already be WWE Champion, again. He got on the crowd about them not understanding what a Last Man Standing match is. He complained about how Cena won the match, not by beating him brutally or decisively. Batista had them show footage of what happened 8 days ago at Extreme Rules when Cena used duct tape to win the match. Batista called it the most embarassing moment of Cena's life, saying duct tape is something Hornswoggle would do.

Batista said he and Cena are in a Beat the Clock challenge tonight to see who determines the stipulation for their next PPV match at Over the Limit. Batista said for them to bring out his opponent, The Miz, but instead Sheamus arrived to the ring. Sheamus said he won his match at Extreme Rules, but Batista didn't. Sheamus also bragged about taking out HHH which Batista could never do. Sheamus said he deserves the WWE title match then, not Batista. He challenged Batista to a match tonight. Sheamus said if Batista wins, he'll shut up, but if Sheamus wins he gets Cena at over the Limit for the title. Batista told Sheamus he lost the match so to get out of his ring. Sheamus stayed put staring him down. Sheamus told Batista if he thinks this is over, he's wrong, and he'll be WWE Champ sooner than Batista thinks.

The Miz vs. Batista
Beat the Clock Challenge match #1

Batista and Cena will each have a match. Whoever has the better time chooses the stipulation for their WWE Title match at Over the Limit PPV.

The Miz arrived to the ring in street clothes after a commercial break. He told Batista he can't compete after the trauma to his face after being sucker punched last week won't allow him to do it. Miz said he's got a doctor's note to prove it, and held up an envelope saying "Doctor's Note". Miz said he's got a diagnosis saying he can't compete. Miz said he's got just the guy for Batista to face instead, his NXT rookie, Daniel Bryan. Batista started laughing as Bryan came to the ring. Miz joked and told Bryan to put up a fight this time and not lose in 30 seconds. Bryan yanked the mic away and said he'll do one better- make Batista tap out.

The bell and clock started. Bryan had a near fall and a submission hold. Batista escaped out of the ring for a breather. The Animal got back in and went on the attack, hammering away in the corner on Bryan. Bryan came back with a sleeperhold in the corner, but Batista ended up tossing him off. The clock moved past the 2 minute mark as Batista whipped Bryan to the corner. Bryan came back with a kick then put a guillotine submission on. Batista tossed him up and over across the ring, but was holding his throat. Batista tossed Bryan to the outside for some damage, then back in the ring at the 3 minute mark to deliver a hard clothesline.

Bryan put a near STF on Batista near the ropes. The Animal struggled as Bryan locked it in, and eventually he grabbed the bottom rope. Finally, Batista kicked Bryan in the knee, then speared him down before delivering the Batista Bomb to win at the 5:06 mark.

Batista, clearly angered by his final time, delivered a few more Batista Bombs on Daniel Bryan after the match.

Winner: Batista wins via pinfall over Daniel Bryan at 5:06 in the Beat the Clock Challenge.

They revealed the Cena must face Chris Jericho for his Beat the Clock challenge. Also guest host Wayne Brady will be up next.

When Raw returned, the new Divas champion, Eve Torres, was posing for some photos with her new belt. Guest host Wayne Brady came up and they hugged, he said she's his favorite diva. Jillian Hall came up and said that maybe tonight she could sing his theme song for him. She started singing "Wayne" for "Fame". Wayne pretended to dance with her then danced her out through an exit way and closed the curtain. Brady said bye to Eve and left. Eve turned to look for her title but it was missing. Just then, Maryse clocked her with the divas belt knocking out Eve. Maryse brushed the title off then walked off with it.

Edge was shown walking backstage with a WWE staffer, talking about what he wanted included for tonight's "Cutting Edge". The man said they couldn't have both things Edge asked for. Just then, Josh Matthews walked up to interview him. He asked about what Orton might do tonight to get revenge on what Edge did last week. Edge said WWE is rated PG right now, but he's Rated-R. He said he won't let the WWE staff or Josh Matthews tell him how to do his show. He said he's going to start controversy tonight with his guest Orton.

"Crash" by Fit for Rivals is the official theme song for Over the Limit PPV.

John Morrison vs. Ted Dibiase

They showed what went down between Dibiase and R-Truth in the locker room last week. Dibiase asked Truth to be a confidant, carry his bags, etc. Truth said it sounds like he wants a Virgil. Dibiase said he'd pay him a lot of money to do what he tells him. Truth asked for some time to think then slapped him saying "Truth don't play that."

Dibiase addressed what happened in the ring, saying Truth probably makes decent money in WWE, but what's he going to do, sing? The crowd started the "What's up" chant as Dibiase mocked it. Dibiase said he's going to hire a personal associate who will slap some sense into Truth.

Morrison gained momentum during the match and was able to clothesline Dibiase out over the ropes. Dibiase started to recover and Morrison hit a springboard flip from the top rope out onto Dibiase. Morrison held his gut, then climbed back in the ring. Dibiase started towards the ring at 8, then waved it off and walked up the ramp to get counted out. Morrison got the mic and told Dibiase to come back down to the ring so they could restart the match. Dibiase shrugged that idea off and started to head to the back. Morrison told him to wait, then said if Dibiase beats him, he'll be his Virgil. Dibiase turned around looking back down to the ring, then went back to the ring.

Dibiase tried to put Morrison away late in the match with a hard clothesline and another near fall on Morrison. Morrison continued to be resilient. Dibiase went for Dream Street, but Morrison managed to jump up on the corner with Dibiase still locking the hold on. Morrison was able to propel himself backwards and press Dibiase's shoulders to the mat to pin him. Dibiase was shocked. He attacked Morrison after the match, bringing R-Truth down to go after Dibiase. Dibiase escaped out of the ring and backed up the ramp as Truth helped Morrison get up.

Winner: John Morrison wins via pinfall over Ted Dibiase.

Cole and Lawler reviewed highlights of the Daniel Bryan versus Batista match which Batista won with a time of 5:06. Cena must beat that time to be able to choose the stipulation for their Over the Limit PPV match.

WWE Rewind showed Chris Jericho going off on someone backstage on Smackdown after losing a match to Kofi Kingston. He then yelled at the off camera person "are you listening to me now? yea typical." Just then the camera revealed Big Show who delivered a KO punch to lay out Jericho. Show said "yeah, I heard you."

Chris Jericho also arrived out for his match wearing street clothes. With a mic in hand, he stayed up on the top of the ramp. Jericho said he wasn't going to pull himself from the match for the excuse Miz did. Jericho said he's going to pull himself from the match, because he's beaten Cena plenty of times already so he doesn't need to do it again. Jericho said he handpicked an opponent who's been begging for a chance to embarass Cena in front of the fans tonight. Jericho introduced his NXT rookie, Wade Barrett. Jericho told Cena he's not going to beat the clock. Barrett took the mic and said "you're not going to beat me period" then headed to the ring.

John Cena vs. Chris Jericho
Beat the Clock Challenge match #2

The clock ticked down with Cena required to beat Batista's time of 5:06. Cena had Barrett up for the Attitude Adjustment at around 4:10. Jericho got on the ramp to provide distraction, so Cena kicked him down with one leg, then tossed Barrett out over the top rope onto Jericho. Cena tossed Barrett back in the ring, but with the ref impaired checking on Barrett, Jericho grabbed Cena to prevent him from getting in. Cena turned and punched down Jericho, but then Barrett delivered a running kick to send Cena into the commentator table. Barrett started hammering away on Cena. Jericho went over and screamed at Michael Cole asking if he saw what Barrett was doing.

Around 2:40, Barrett was in control and had a near fall. He followed up by stretching Cena's arms back in a submission. Jericho again went over and yelled at Lawler about how good Barrett was. Cena powered out of the hold and got to his feet to go against the ropes, but Barrett delivered a big boot kick for a near fall. At 1:20 he hit a backbreaker on Cena for another near fall. Jericho screamed at Lawler to talk about how great Barrett was in the ring, treating Cena like a toy. The clock ticked down after 0:40. Cena surprisingly recovered to slap the STF on Barrett causing him to tap at 0:27. Cena wins the Beat the Clock challenge.

Cena got the mic and said he won't waste any time in announcing the match he has against Batista at Over the Limit. Just as Cena was about to announce the match, Sheamus rushed to the ring. Wade Barrett sat up and tried to grab Cena's leg to hold him there. Cena pushed Barrett out of the ring, but got clocked by Sheamus in the head after. Sheamus delivered a boot kick to lay out Cena on his back, then left the ring. Cena never announced what the OTL match would be. Cena sat up in the ring as Sheamus stared down at him from the ramp.

Winner: John Cena defeats Wade Barrett via pinfall with 0:27 seconds remaining to win the Beat the Clock Challenge.

Nikki Bella vs. Maryse

Nikki was accompanied by sister Brie who wore a different outfit then her twin. Nikki took control early after flipping Maryse down, then smashing Maryse into the corner several times. The fight went outside the ring, and Nikki tried to come back with a move off the corner. Maryse was up though and threw Nikki off the corner. Maryse delivered the French Kiss DDT for the pinfall victory.

Maryse got a mic and said something in French, then laughed. Maryse said she wants to promote her new photo shoot "Maryse - The sexiest of sexy". The photos showed Maryse posing with the Divas belt, laying near the fallen Eve. Maryse said on the mic "Eve, I've never seen you look so good." Eve charged down the ramp to the ring. The ref held her off, and Maryse escaped out of the ring to back up the ramp. Maryse taunted her from the ramp as she giggled about it and went backstage.

Winner: Maryse wins via pinfall over Nikki Bella.

Raw returned with divas Gail Kim and Alicia Fox seated next to the commentators table. Ryder was in the ring saying the big news of the draft was that "he's still on Raw." Ryder said he's now single and ready to mingle. He said that's why he invited these two hot divas to watch him beat Primo tonight. Ryder said for Primo to not make him act like a governor from Arizona and check his papers. Just then, guest host Wayne Brady appeared up on the big screen. He told Ryder he couldn't think of an opponent better for Ryder than this man. Mark Henry arrived out as Ryder yanked his sunglasses off in surprise.

Mark Henry vs. Zack Ryder

Henry started slamming Ryder out of the gates. He went for a big splash in the corner, but Ryder avoided it then started to go after Henry. He connected with a missile dropkick off the corner, but not the pinfall. Ryder hit the Rough Ryder leg lariat for another near fall. Henry recovered to smash Ryder in the corner, then dropped him down a few times. Ryder escaped off Henry's shoulder at one point then went to punch Henry. Henry stopped his fist, then picked up Ryder for World's Strongest Slam. Alicia Fox and Gail just shook their heads at Ryder. Henry posed for the crowd victorious.

Henry went over to Gail and Alicia and the two divas left with him.

Winner: Mark Henry wins via pinfall over Zack Ryder.

Chris Jericho and The Miz were shown backstage talking about how they both got punched by Big Show. They both started to complain about having to partner with Big Show. Jericho said he and Miz each carried Show as their tag partner. Miz said there's nothing they can do about it, now that Show's on Smackdown. Jericho said there is something they can do, he's got a "strategy". The two walked down the hall conversing.

Vladimir Kozlov was backstage saying how he's glad that Wayne Brady doesn't act foolish like MacGruber did as host. Brady agreed with him, but then Santino came up in a big black wig and 70's clothes. Brady asked what was up, and Santino said he's from his family, the Brady Bunch. Brady said neither one of them could be on the show because of the fact they're not white. Santino suggested Brady team him up with Vladimir Kozlov tonight, but just then William Regal arrived in. He said that he and Kozlov will be teaming up. Santino questioned that and told Vlad that Regal betrayed him on ECW. Regal said they've patched up their differences, then told "Dear boy" Kozlov to come along. Santino said "Regal, Regal, Regal" stomped his foot and left. Brady turned to an off camera person and asked if they're supposed to be Alice. The camera showed Goldust dressed in a maid's outfit. Goldust said "Who's Alice? I'm Goldust witch!" after blowing air in Brady's face.

Michael Cole and Lawler reviewed some of the Supplemental draft picks Raw received last week including Great Khali, Ezekiel Jackson and the Hart Dynasty with Natalya. Hart Dynasty is in action next.

WWE Slam of the Week showed how Hart Dynasty won the tag titles last week on Raw after defeating ShowMiz.

The Hart Dynasty vs. Vladimir Kozlov & William Regal

Chris Jericho and The Miz joined Cole and Lawler on commentary for the tag match. The Miz informed Cole the only reason they lost the unified tag titles because of Big Show, not him. Cole complimented Miz on his house, as seen on WWE.com. The Miz and Jericho discussed how Big Show was the weak link in their tag teams.

Michael Cole brought up during the match that Jericho has over 100,000 twitter followers and Miz only has like 65,000. Jericho told Cole to stop talking about irrelevant points like a jackass.

DH Smith came in on fire, knocking down Regal and then Kozlov off the apron. Regal hit Smith in the gut though, then rushed over to knock Kidd off the apron. Regal went for a knee trembler after hitting Smith down, but Smith avoided it. Smith dropped Regal down by pulling out his legs, then quickly put a Sharpshooter on to get Regal to tap out.

After the victory, Miz rushed in and tried to take Smith down, but Smith got the upperhand on him instead. Jericho rushed into the ring and caught Smith with a Codebreaker. Natalya was tending to Tyson Kidd on the outside as Jericho raised up The Miz's hand in an apparently new formed team.

Winner: The Hart Dynasty wins via submission over Vladimir Kozlov & William Regal.

When Raw returned, they announced that next week's guest host is rapper and reality TV star, Flavor Flav.

The Cutting Edge w/guest Randy Orton

Edge made his return to host the Cutting Edge on Raw. Tonight's guest on the show was The Viper, Randy Orton. Edge said that the people don't deserve an explanation for what he did to Randy Orton, then said he was just playing with their emotions. Edge discussed how he came back to win the Royal Rumble. Edge said he was prepared to be the shining light on Smackdown. Edge said he was positioned just right to beat Jack Swagger and became World Champion. Edge said last week Ted Dibiase won a Battle Royal, and Edge gets drafted to Raw. Edge said he had to start his plans over on a new show. He said he was frustrated and angry, then had to spear Orton to get things off his chest. Edge said at the end of the night he was the most talked about superstar on Raw or Smackdown. Edge was about to have Randy Orton come to the ring. Just then, Wayne Brady came out and down the ramp to the ring. Edge clapped for him in the ring.

Wayne Brady got into the ring and shook hands with Edge. Edge told him to have a seat and that Orton could wait. Brady talked about his love of WWE and growing up on WWE. Brady asked Edge if he could see what it feels like to be in Edge's shadow. Edge said sure. Brady stood up to deliver a promo to all other guest hosts saying he is the only guest host. Edge told him to deliver a promo to a certain camera, but Randy Orton came out to interrupt it.

Orton got into the ring and Brady walked up to him to shake his hand. Orton grabbed him and quickly hit the RKO to drop Brady. He then went for Edge. Edge backed away then got on the mic to tell Orton he was just in the wrong place at the wrong time. Edge reminded Orton of when they were Rated RKO and dominated the other teams on Raw. Edge told Orton they can do it again and take out Batista/Cena on Raw. Orton continued to coldly stare down Edge walking up to him huffing and puffing. Edge started complaining how he did everything yet the fans didn't fully accept him. He said he doesn't understand why the fans chant for a guy like Orton who only cares about himself. Edge said it's not fair that he did so much work for nothing. Edge told Orton he will join him. Edge told Orton will Spear Orton down week after week until Orton is just an afterthought on the show. Edge asked if any of this was registering with Orton, then screamed at Orton to say something.

Orton kept staring at Edge, then went for the RKO. Edge avoided it, then delivered a solid kick to Orton's face. Orton started getting up near the corner. Edge cleared the ring of the chairs and prepared for a Spear from the opposite corner. Orton kept feeling his chin for blood and slowly turned around for the Spear. Edge charged at him but ended up getting the RKO. The fans chanted "Randy, Randy!" Orton stood looking coldly at the camera with Edge layed out in the ring. Raw ended with Orton surveying the damage done, both Edge and guest host Wayne Brady were being attended to by a WWE staff member.
