Smackdown Recap 5.24.07
A recap of Friday Night Smackdown from Des Moines, Iowa:
Smackdown kicked off with Edge bringing his World Heavyweight Championship title to the ring. Edge told the crowd people called Undertaker vs.Batista matches instant classics. Edge said these matches got them nowhere. Edge said he took opportunities when they presented themselves, cashing his Money in the Bank title shot in at the right time to take the title from Undertaker, and then attacking Batista's injured leg to win at Judgement Day. Edge started chastising the crowd and just then Teddy Long's music came on, as the Smackdown GM came out to the ring. Teddy congratulated Edge on successfully defending his title at the last Pay Per View. Teddy said that Edge would be defending his title again, in just 9 days at "One Night Stand". Teddy said Edge would defend the title versus tonight's Fatal Fourway match winner between Mark Henry, Finlay, Kane & Batista. Teddy added the final stipulation that the match at One Night Stand would be held in a 15 foot high steel cage.
Brian Kendrick & Paul London vs. William Regal & Dave Talyor - Deuce & Domino rolled onto the ramp in their vintage convertible with Cherry prior to the match start so they could look on. London started off versus Regal with early high flying moves, then tagged in his partner to assist. With Taylor able to tag in, Kendrick dropkicked him out of the ring momentarily. Taylor able to get back into the ring and then toss Kendrick out over the ropes. With Kendrick back into the ring, Taylor continued to punish, and tagged in Regal to knee Kendrick in the face. Taylor and Regal isolated Kendrick towards their side of the ring, until he was able to turn things around and go for a quick pain. Regal quickly knocked him back down, to tag in Taylor again. Kendrick was finally able to tag in London after Regal shoved Kendrick towards him. London used high flying moves to knock down both Taylor and Regal in the ring. London then climbed the corner turnbuckle to do a move, but Domino ran down the ramp and up to the ring to shove London off the ropes. The ref took notice and promptly called the match, awarding it to London and Kendrick as he disqualified Taylor/Regal. Domino still on the side apron turned his back to Taylor in the ring, who was upset at the outcome. Taylor ran across the ring, knocking Domino off the apron. Talyor and Regal started to fight against Deuce and Domino outside the ring as Kendrick joined in. London then flew over the ropes onto Deuce, crashing into the floor, as the brawl continued.
Winners: Kendrick & London via Disqualification (Domino interfered in match on behalf of Taylor/Regal)

Hornswaggle seen running backstage with Edge's World Championship Belt. Edge chasing behind as the leprechaun ran through a bunch of equipment set up backstate. Hornswaggle ran right up to Finlay, as did Edge. Finlay asked Edge if there was a problem, Edge said he wanted his title belt back. Finlay took the title from Hornswaggle and placed it back on Edge's shoulder. Finlay patted the belt twice and told Edge "You keep that, for now", and then stared Edge down.
Jillian came down the ring wearing a microphone headset, then broke out in a brand new tune causing the fans to cover their ears. Boogeyman's music came on as smoke appeared around the ring. Boogeyman came out from under the ring and got into the ring behind Jillian who was staring up the ramp. Jillian turned to see Boogeyman and then promptly ran out of the ring. Jillian tried to back up the ramp, but Michelle McCool came down the ramp behind her and grabbed her. Michelle ran Jillian back down the ramp and tossed her into the ring. Jillian laying on the mat tried to crawl away from Boogeyman as he came towards her. As she got to the bottom rope, Little Boogeyman popped up at her,causing her to back away from him right into Boogeyman's leg. Boogeyman then showered Jillian's face with worms as Little Boogey entered the ring. Boogeyman and his mini protege celebrated in the ring, as Jillian ran up the ramp screaming and trying to brush the worms off.
Backstage Teddy Long welcomed Vickie Guerrero as the new assistant General Manager on Smackdown. Vickie thanked Teddy and then hugged Kristal who was also backstage. Kristal told Teddy he made a good choice and that they could now spend more time together.
Matt Hardy vs. The Miz - Hardy targeted the left arm of Miz early, holding it behind Miz' back several times. Miz able to elbow Matt in the face twice to escape, then used a wheelbarrow style move to catapult Matt face first up into the middle rope. Miz then started to dominate Matt for the majority of the match, focusing on the neck of Hardy with a headlock down on the mat. Despite Matt getting back to his feet, Miz able to pull Matt down by his head/hair, slamming him to the mat onto his back. With Matt down on the mat, Miz started using strong forearms to his head. Matt able to start battling back and whip Miz to the ropes, but Miz able to knock Matt back down with an elbow. Miz used his trademark move tossing Matt to the corner, then charging at him to clothesline him hard. Matt finally regained the advantage off the ropes, as he tossed Miz up over his back down to the mat. Matt then threw Miz to the corner and clotheslined him, followed by a series of slams. Matt used an elbow drop off the corner, and got a near 3 count. Matt then signaled for Twist of Fate but Miz countered to slam Matt down. Matt able to recollect himself and score a Sidewalk Effect on Miz, but again only scored a 2 count. Miz was then busted open bleeding from his nose. After a brief battle ensued near the corner, Matt punched Miz in the face. A stunned Miz stood up just in time to receive the Twist of Fate by Matt, and then get pinned 1-2-3.
Winner: Matt Hardy wins via pinfall over Miz.
Mark Henry appeared on the Titantron to say tonight he would win the #1 contender's match in the Fatal Fourway over Kane, Batista and Finlay.
MVP's US Championship Victory Celebration The ring was decorated in red, white and blue with a podium set up. MVP came out sitting in the back of a convertible, wearing the United States Championship belt. MVP said 7 months ago he told the fans he would be Smackdown's MVP, changing Friday nights and becoming a champion. MVP said he proved all of the non-believers wrong when he beat Chris Benoit for the US title. MVP said Chris Benoit was missing from tonight's celebration and he should be present to help celebrate. Just then Benoit came out to his music and walked down to the ring. MVP told Benoit that since he is a classy guy, he should shake MVP's hand to congratulate him. Benoit shook MVP's hand then started to leave the ring. MVP said a handshake isn't enough, and that since MVP is the better competitor, Benoit should raise his hand now. MVP started to yell at Benoit, berating him, then tried to punch Benoit. Benoit ducked and caught MVP for a German Suplex, followed by 2 more. Benoit chopped and punched the US champ out of the ring.
Network broadcast premiere of the Timbaland (with the Hives) music video "Throw It On Me", featuring WWE Divas Ashley, Torrie, Maryse, Brooke, Kelly Kelly and Layla.
Kane backstage talking about how tonight he would defeat his other 3 opponents and then go on to One Night Stand to make it Edge's "Last stand".
Jimmy Wang Yang vs. Chavo Guerrero - The 2 men grappled early, as Yang backed Chavo to a corner, then used an armbar takedown to toss Chavo across the ring. Yang countered several Chavo moves to keep him down on the mat with a headlock slapped on. Yang tried to climb the corner ropes after flipping over the ropes onto the apron and punching Chavo. Chavo able to dropkick Wang Yang when he was on the ropes, causing Yang to catch his knee in the ropes, injuring it. Chavo then slapped a few submission holds on Yang in the ring and focused on the hurt knee. Wang Yang finally able to reach a bottom rope to have the ref momentarily break the hold. Chavo able to lock in a half Boston Crab in the ring. Wang Yang once again able to reach the bottom rope to break the hold. Yang able to gain the match momentum and score a series of moves on Chavo, despite having an injured knee. Yang was able to flip off the top ropes at Chavo. Yang tried to land on his feet, but his injured knee gave out, causing him to fall to the mat, Chavo with a series of suplexes ala Eddie Guerrero. As Chavo climbed the ropes, Yang came up the ropes and battled him. Yang went to suplex Chavo off the ropes, but Chavo countered. Chavo tried to flip over Yang and slam him to the mat off the ropes. Yang was able to reverse the move and hold Chavo down for a 3 count pinfall.
Winner: Jimmy Wang Yang wins via pinfall.
Kristal interviewed Batista backstage about the upcoming Fatal Fourway match between himself Mark Henry, Kane and Finlay. Batista said he has a guy who loves to fight, a King of the Jungle, and a man who said the match would be fatal. Batista said the match will definitely be fatal.
Mark Henry vs. Finlay vs. Kane vs. Batista (Fatal Fourway Match to Determine #1 Contender for Edge's title) - Winner of this match will go on to face Edge in a steel cage for the World Heavyweight Title at One Night Stand. Edge joined JBL and Michael Cole at the announcer's table for the match. Kane and Batista stared at Mark Henry early. Henry tried to punch Kane when he turned for a moment, as the match started. Batista knocked Henry out of the ring to start battling him outside. Meanwhile, Kane fought Finlayin the ring. Edge taunted Batista near the announcer's table, and Batista shoved him back into his chair. Mark Henry then attacked Batista from behind and knocked him face first into the table, as Smackdown went to commercial break.
Back from break, the action had reversed, with Henry battling Batista in the ring, and Kane fighting Finlay outside. Marky Henry slammed Batista down for a pin, but Finlayable to enter the ring and break things up. Finlay jumped on Henry's back and used a sleeper hold, Mark Henry backed into a corner causing Finlay to fall off breaking his hold. Kane then came into play, attacking Finlay and using a boot to the face to knock him down. Kane then began to battle all opponents, taking down Batista, and then clothslining Finlay into the corner. As Mark Henry got up and knocked Kane out of the ring, Batista managed to climb the ropes and jump off shoulder first into Mark Henry. After a failed pinfall, Henry able to slam Batista down. Eventually Batista and Finlay both outside the ring as Mark Henry and Kane traded shots at each other inside the ring. Kane able to finally knock Mark Henry down. As Kane climbed the ropes, Batista re-entered action and slammed Kane off the ropes.
The end of the match featured Finlay using his shalalee on both Mark Henry's head and Batista's injured leg when the ref's attention was turned away. Finlay tried to bring Hornswaggle into the match from under the ring, but the leprechaun only appeared briefly then ran out of the ring. Batista was finally able to Finlay and then deliver a Power Bomb to Finlay to score the pinfall victory. Batista had trouble standing with his injured leg, but got over to the ropes to stare out at Edge. Batista will go on to One Night Stand to face Edge for the title in a steel cage match.
