Smackdown Recap 09.14.07


Recap of Smackdown from Minneapolis, MN:



Smackdown kicked off with highlights from last week's show with Rey Mysterio defeating Chavo Guerrero in an "I Quit" match. Rey used a chair to force Chavo to quit while he was hung upside down from the corner of the ring. After the victory, The Great Khali came down to the ring and attacked Mysterio, eventually squeezing his skull between his two hands. Blood oozed from Mysterio's mask down his face, leaving Mysterio's status in question for Unforgiven. Batista ran down to the ring to make the save. Afterwards, Teddy Long announced that Batista would be added to the Rey Mysterio vs. Great Khali match at Unforgiven, making it a Triple Threat for the World Heavyweight Title.

Michael Cole and JBL discussed that Batista would face Khali tonight for the first time on Network TV.

Michelle McCool vs. Victoria

Chuck Palumbo rode down to the ring on his motorcycle with Michelle McCool on back. Victoria came down to the ring escorted by Kenny Dykstra.

Michelle and Victoria battled back and forth to start the match off. After a slam move and failed pin, Michelle went after Victoria near the ropes. Kenny came over and splashed a water bottle in Michelle's face, allowing Victoria to gain the upperhand. Just then, Chuck Palumbo came over and knocked Kenny down to the floor. The two men ended up going after each other in the ring, as Victoria was punching Michelle. The ref tried to get some order in the ring as Smackdown hit commercial.

The show returned with Michael Cole saying GM Teddy Long had ordered a mixed-gender tag match. Chuck Palumbo was in the ring beating up Dykstra, as Victoria and Michelle looked on from their corners. Chuck held Kenny up in the air for a while then suplexed him down. Kenny barely kicked out of a pin. Palumbo delivered a series of moves including a leg drop on Kenny, then rammed him into the corner of the ring. Dykstra eventually took Palumbo's leg out and started attacking him on the mat. Kenny continued to target Palumbo's knee. Despite being hobbled with a hurt knee, Chuck was able to battle back and beat up Kenny. Kenny was able to jump over and tag in Victoria . Victoria tried to jump at Chuck who grabbed her in the air and put her on his shoulder. Chuck tagged in Michelle who then knocked Victoria down.

The two divas battled with Michelle going for a pin. Kenny tried to interfere, causing Palumbo to go after Kenny. Palumbo and Kenny ended up outside the ring continuing to battle, allowing Michelle to deliver a solid kick to Victoria's face, and then grab the pin.

Winner: Michelle McCool and Chuck Palumbo win via pinfall over Kenny Dykstra and Victoria.

Teddy Long back in an office talking to Jesse and Festus. Jesse informed Teddy that Ron Simmons had put them in charge of Teddy's bachelor party. Jesse opened the door and about 10 beautiful women entered the office and started to dance with Teddy. Then Teddy's sons came in as well as the Major Brothers and Sgt. Slaughter. Teddy grabbed a drink and started to party.




A promo was shown to announce that Teddy Long and Kristal's wedding will be held on Smackdown next week.

Ominous music played as a dark arena was shown. In the ring was a rather large cloaked druid. All of a sudden he ripped his cloak off to reveal it was Mark Henry. Henry with a mic in the ring said Undertaker isn't the only one with "hocus pocus". Henry began to rant how Undertaker's powers are nothing compared to his. Henry had a promo video of himself shown up on the Titantron where he destroyed Undertaker at his match against Batista. The promo showed Taker being taken away from the ring by a bunch of druids.

Henry continued to speak, until a new video came up on the Titantron of Undertaker, "The man who can't be destroyed". The promo ended with Undertaker appearing on the screen and saying "Unforgiven". As the footage ended, Henry was still standing in a dark ring. All of a sudden, the Undertaker's symbol was shown above the ramp and instantly burst into flames. Undertaker's voice came on telling Henry at Unforgiven, he will "rest in peace".




A promo piece was shown featuring the contestants in the 2007 Diva search. Voting is currently going at WWE.com where you can check out the 1st competition and more about the 8 contestants.

Matt Hardy and MVP shown playing chess backstage with MVP contemplating his next move. Hardy told MVP to hurry up because it's been an hour. MVP told Hardy he'd beat him in this like every other competition. MVP made a move and told Hardy beat that. Hardy made his move and said "check". Just then MVP pretended to sneeze and knocked all the pieces off the board. Then Hardy informed MVP he had a tune-up match scheduled for him before Unforgiven. Matt began to joke around as MVP took off to prepare for his match.

Jamie Noble vs. Shannon Moore

Footage shown from last week when Noble tried to snare Hornswoggle in a trap he had set up, but the leprechaun ended up catching Noble in the trap instead. Noble was then counted out for his match against Hornswoggle because he couldn't reach the ring before a 10 count. Hornswoggle poured marbles around the ring causing Noble to slip as he went in after him.

Moore took control early until Noble kneed him from the corner. Moore was able to dropkick Noble down off the ropes, then started to twist Noble's arm to gain advantage. Noble tried to run at Moore in the corner, but Moore jumped up onto the turnbuckle. Noble then put Moore on his shoulders and slammed him to the mat. Noble locked a hold on Moore holding his arms up and trying to keep him down to the mat. Moore was able to flip Noble over his back and then deliver a dropkick to a seated Noble. Both men got to their feet, and Moore took control using clotheslines and dropkicks.

Moore flipped onto the side apron, and then used a headscissors to flip Noble out of the ring. Moore climbed to the turnbuckle and then flipped off onto Noble. Moore finally got back up and tossed Noble in to try for a pin. Noble managed to whip Moore off the ropes and slam him back first into Noble's own knee. Noble elbowed Moore from the corner. As Moore regained himself, he formed an idea and pretended to look out near the side of the ring. Moore called the ref over, pretending to see something. Noble came over and pushed them aside to look out near the side of the ring. Moore seized the opportunity, grabbing Noble to roll him up for a pinfall victory.

Winner: Shannon Moore wins via pinfall over Jamie Noble.

Vickie Guerrero lead Kristal to a backstage office room, where she had a bachelorette party for Kristal with several divas present including Mickie James, Extreme Expose, Torrie Wilson, Michelle McCool and champagne.

MVP was shown backstage telling a referee that he wasn't ready for his match because he was dressed in a suit. The ref told MVP he was heading out to the ring and recommended MVP do the same.




Stay in the Game moment was shown, where Matt Hardy faced Deuce in a match. MVP was looking on and gave Hardy the assist by tripping Deuce as he came off the ropes.

MVP vs. Domino

MVP came down the ramp angrily still in his suit. MVP began to remove his jewelry and suit as he entered the ring angry. Matt Hardy came down to the ring to cheer on MVP for the match.

MVP dominated early, taking Domino down, and putting him in a headlock. Cherry got onto the side apron, distracting the ref, as Deuce tripped MVP off the ropes. Domino began to take control of the match, slamming MVP down then using a leg drop. Matt Hardy grabbed a microphone and told the crowd to rally behind MVP. Matt began to chant "M-V-P" and the crowd would follow with "sucks". MVP tried to attack Domino briefly, but was clotheslined back down.

Domino continued to dominate, clotheslining MVP off the ropes. Domino ripped MVP's undershirt off him then threw it in Matt Hardy's face. Domino continued to beat up MVP and tried for a pin with no luck. MVP finally was able to use a trip move to slam Domino down face first. Deuce got onto the side apron, causing Hardy to go up and attack him, knocking him off. MVP went over and got in Hardy's face telling him to get out of there. Just then, Domino grabbed MVP from behind and rolled him up for a pinfall victory.

Matt Hardy got into the ring with a mic and said this Sunday they will defend the titles at Unforgiven. Matt then said he just showed exactly why MVP is the captain of their team. Matt started to chant "M V P" again, with the crowd yelling "sucks" after it.

Winner: Domino wins via pinfall over MVP.

Footage shown again of Rey Mysterio's match against Chavo Guerrero, followed by the Great Khali coming down to attack Rey. Batista came down for the save after Khali squeezed Mysterio's skull in between his hands. Teddy Long ordered a Triple Threat match for Unforgiven, Rey Mysterio vs. Batista vs. Great Khali. Michael Cole said Rey Mysterio is still recovering from the attack, but vows to be present at the match. Cole said their will be an exclusive interview from Rey on WWE.com this weekend.




Raw Rebound shown with coverage of Mr. McMahon finally finding out who his illegitimate child is. Vince brought all of the wrestlers down from the WWE's 3 shows, then slowly eliminated them as he received clues about his son's identity. It came down to just HHH in the ring, but Vince soon discovered his son was in fact, Hornswoggle. Triple H had a laugh at Vince's expense as Hornswoggle danced around in the ring, then hugged Vince's leg.

Kristal shown at her bachelorette party opening a gift. The divas cheered as Kristal modeled a new nightie someone had given her. A UPS man brought a huge package into the room for Kristal. Kristal thought the man was a dancer, but just then Big Dick Johnson burst out from inside the package and began dancing with Kristal.




The Great Khali and his manager discussed the reason for taking a match against Batista tonight just 2 days before Unforgiven. Khali began to yell in his language, and then Singh said tonight Khali will give a preview of what's going to happen at Unforgiven. Singh said it won't matter how many opponents Khali has this weekend, they will all succumb to the "vice grip" and Khali will leave as champ.

Finlay vs. Kane (Belfast Brawl)

No countouts or disqualifications for this match format, only ways to win are by pin or submission.

Finlay attacked Kane on his way down the ramp, but the Big Red Machine recovered and began to fight back. The match went into the ring with Finlay eventually being knocked outside the ring. Kane attacked Finlay whipping Finlay into the corner ringpost. Kane then ran at Finlay, but Finlay moved away causing Kane to hit into the post and fall down. Both men were layed out as Smackdown hit break.

Smackdown returned with Finlay holding Kane down on the mat. Kane got onto his knees and started to punch Finlay, but Finlay used a boot to Kane's face. Finlay grabbed a chair and brought it into the ring, then smashed it on Kane's arm. Finlay continued to use the chair on Kane then started to attack Kane's arm more. Finlay pulled the cover off the corner turnbuckle and went back at Kane, who was able to punch Finlay in the face. Kane was able to toss Finlay into the exposed turnbuckle, then ran at him. Finlay moved causing Kane to hit his injured shoulder. Finlay tossed Kane into the ringpost shoulder first, then left the ring to attack more. Finlay tried to climb from the apron to the top rope, but Kane kicked him down.

Outside the ring Kane dropped Finlay face first on the crowd barrier, then took him over and slammed him onto the announce table. Kane removed the cover from the announce table and tossed it at Finlay. Finlay recovered and pushed Kane into the steel steps, then threw him back into the ring. Finlay grabbed his shalalee and went at Kane, but Kane headed him off and punched him down. Kane used a clothesline and sideslam to take Finlay down, then climbed the ropes. Kane landed a clothesline off the ropes and then picked up the shalalee. Kane received a second shalalee and put it on the mat for Finlay. Finlay escaped the ring, but Kane went out and tossed him back. Kane then tossed the steel steps into the ring.

Kane picked up the steps to go at Kane, but Finlay had the steel chair and rammed Kane in the guy. Finlay then picked up Kane on his shoulders and slammed him back to grab the pin.

Winner: Finlay wins via pinfall over Kane.




Teddy Long shown backstage in just his boxers as he got locked out of the room his bachelor party was in. Kristal came walking up asking Teddy what he was doing. All of a sudden, the girls from Teddy's bachelor party came out. Kristal began to yell at him as Big Dick Johnson came dancing up behind her. The engaged couple started to argue as everyone gathered around. Ron Simmons came over and stared at them all then yelled out "DAMN!". Teddy asked "what do we do now?" and Big Dick Johnson said "only thing we can do, PARTY!" Everyone began to dance around.

Michael Cole and JBL discussed the various matches for Unforgiven this Sunday including VM Punk vs Elijah Burke and the Triple Threat match for the Heavyweight title.

Batista vs. Great Khali

Khali threw Batista around the ring like a ragdoll as the match started off. In the corner, Khali started to kick away at the Animal, then used a boot to his throat to choke him. Khali continued to dominate clotheslining Batista down. Khali went to put his hands on Batista's head for the vice grip, but Batista held him off. Khali shoved Batista to the ropes then delivered a boot to Batista, knocking him out through the ropes.

Khali exited the ring and went out after Batista. Batista was able to run into Khali and ram him into the ringpost, but Khali again shoved Batista down. Once back in the ring, Khali went for Batista, but Batista picked him up for the spinebuster. Batista prepared to Batista Bomb Khali. Khali managed to pick up Batista on his shoulders and then hung Batista on the top rope. Khali walked over and knocked Batista down hard. Khali awaited Batista to get to his feet, then put the vice grip on Batista's skull, squeezing. Batista got to the ropes and the ref ordered Khali to break the hold. Khali would not break the hold as Batista clutched the ropes, so the ref called for the bell.

Khali continued to squeeze Batista's head between his hands. Batista slowly started to fade as 3 refs got into the ring and tried to get Khali to stop. Eventually, Batista fell to his knees and after a few minutes of squeezing his skull, Khali tossed Batista down. Khali posed with his belt over Batista who layed on the mat as Smackdown left the air.

Winner: Batista wins due to disqualification of Great Khali.
