Smackdown Recap 10.05.07


WWE Smackdown Recap from Dayton, Ohio:

Smackdown opened with a replay of Vince McMahon informing WWE fans on ECW that John Cena was injured this past week on Raw. Vince informed the crowd Cena needed emergency surgery and will be out of action for 6 months to a year. With Cena sidelined, the WWE title is vacant and will be decided at No Mercy. Match details are to be announced.

Batista came down to the ring in a full suit carrying the World Heavyweight belt. A promo video was shown about the Punjabi prison structure which will surround the ring for the No Mercy match between Khali and Batista. Batista spoke to the crowd about his challenge this Sunday with the dangerous cage apparatus he has to escape to win. Batista spoke about his opponent Khali's size and his killer attitude.

Just then, Khali appeared on the Titantron yelling in his native language. His translator appeared on screen telling Batista he is stepping inside a structure that strikes fear in India and there will be no escape from the torture, pain or Great Khali. Singh said people inside the Punjabi prison lose their sanity and will to live. Singh then guaranteed Batista will lose the championship on Sunday. Batista then remarked that Khali "has no idea what it's like to be locked inside a cage with an Animal".

Michael Cole and JBL reminded fans of tonight's main event with Rey Mysterio facing the enormous Great Khali.




Michael Cole announced that Smackdown GM Vickie Guerrero has set a tag team title match for tonight with MVP/Matt Hardy taking on Deuce & Domino.

Ace Steel vs. Chuck Palumbo

Palumbo rode down to the ring on his motorcycle with Michelle McCool on back. Early on Palumbo used his power on his opponent to clothesline him down and then powerslam him. Ace tried go at Palumbo off the ropes, but Chuck picked him up and slammed him backwards. Palumbo continued to dominate, tossing his amateur opponent around the ring and knocking him down. Palumbo finished by hoisting Ace Steel up on his shoulder and slamming him down for the pin.

After winning, Chris Masters ran down and got into the ring to attack Palumbo. Masters got the upperhand and slapped the Masterlock on Palumbo. Masters kept the hold locked in and started to wear Palumbo down. Palumbo dropped down to his knees then was able to get some strength and stand up. Chuck tried to fight back but Masters held strong until he finally tossed Palumbo down to the mat.

Winner: Chuck Palumbo wins via pinfall over Ace Steel.

Jimmy Wang Yang vs. Jamie Noble

Michael Cole noted Smackdown is in need of a Cruiserweight champ as footage was shown of Hornswoggle giving up his belt to Vickie Guerrero.

Noble tried to get the advantage by dropping Yang to the mat and applying a headlock. Yang managed to reverse the hold when he grabbed the top rope and flipped himself, twisting Noble's arm and dropping him to the mat. Noble regained control again with a headlock, but Yang stood up and started to chop at Noble. Yang landed an impressive kick move on Noble in the corner of the ring, flipping afterwards and landing on both feet. As Yang took the fight at Noble in the center of the ring, Noble slammed Yang back to the mat.

Noble began to choke Yang on the ropes then slammed him again before applying another headlock. Yang gained some momentum off the ropes briefly but Noble again knocked him down. The crowd began to chant for Hornswoggle as Yang got to his feet. Noble continued to apply a headlock and kept Yang down to the mat. Yang was finally able to run with Noble towards the corner, causing Noble to hit face first. Yang then mounted an offense, jumping off the top rope for a dropkick and delivering more kicks to Noble when he got to his feet. Despite the attack, Noble managed to grab Yang on his shoulders off the ropes and slammed him down across his knees for Gut Buster. Noble captures the pinfall victory.

Winner: Jamie Noble wins via pinfall over Jimmy Wang Yang.

Recap of this past week's WWE Diva search contest, the Obstacle course which included running through cones, hula hoops and a Slip N Slide. This weeks eliminated contestant was J. Deuce & Domino vs. Matt Hardy & MVP
Tag Team Title match

Before the match, MVP challenged Matt to a pushup contest in the ring. Matt and MVP got down on the mat and got past 30 pushups. Suddenly, MVP slid his hand over and knocked Hardy off balance causing Matt to fall on the mat. The ref declared MVP winner of the pushup contest despite the cheap trick.

Deuce and Domino dominated most of the match as they worked well together tagging in and out to prevent the tag champs from tagging their partner in. MVP tried to muster the strength to make a tag several times but was prevented by D&D. MVP finally was able to escape and tag Hardy in. Matt gained momentum against Domino and flew at him from the ropes. Hardy tossed Domino to the corner then used a bulldog before a pin attempt. Hardy went for the Side Effect, but Domino fought out of it. Deuce came in and Matt grabbed him for the Side Effect. With the ref's attention turned, Domino produced a belt weapon and went for Hardy. MVP got back into the ring and gave a "low blow" to Domino. As Hardy turned he saw the stunned Domino and delivered his "Twist of Fate" followed by a pin.

Winners: Matt Hardy & MVP win via pinfall over Deuce & Domino to retain the Tag titles.

As MVP and Matt Hardy walked up the ramp, all of a sudden an explosion occurred at the top of the ramp, with Kane coming out from backstage. MVP quickly ran all the way over to the side crowd barrier, keeping a safe distance. Michael Cole announced Kane is in action next.




Kane vs. Kenny Dykstra

The match was already underway as Smackdown came back from commercial break. Kane was in control as he punched Kenny down to the mat then threw Kenny to the ropes and flipped him up over his back. Kenny was able to hit Kane with an elbow in the corner, then tried to run off the ropes. Kane delivered a boot to Kenny's face knocking him to the mat. Victoria was at ringside and distracted Kane, allowing Kenny to attack Kane's leg. Despite this, Kane fought back. Dykstra tried to suplex Kane to no avail. Kane picked up Kenny who slid off his back and hit Kane in the leg again, attacking Kane some more in the corner. Kane escaped the attack with a serious boot kick to Kenny.

Kenny managed to hit Kane in the leg again, then got up to try to attack. Kenny gave all he had but Kane's power was unmatched. Kane tossed Kenny to the corner for a clothesline, then sideslammed Dykstra. Kane clibmed the ropes then delivered a clothesline followed by his chokeslam to capture the victory.

Winner: Kane wins by pinfall over Kenny Dykstra.

Video footage shown about the Undertaker and his return to Smackdown last week, where he defeated Mark Henry in the main event match.




Footage shown of the wedding ceremony two weeks ago between Kristal and Teddy. Teddy Long, the GM of Smackdown collapsed before he could say I Do. Footage was shown of Teddy being taken away to the hospital in an ambulance.

Backstage Matt Hardy and MVP interrupted Vickie Guerrero in her office. MVP demanded that Vickie make a match with Matt Hardy facing the Undertaker. Vickie said it was a great idea and told MVP instead it would be Undertaker and Kane vs. Matt Hardy and MVP.

Michael Cole noted that John Cena was injured on Raw this past week during his first ever match against Mr. Kennedy. Highlights were shown of the match, with Randy Orton attacking Cena after his victory. Orton delivered the RKO to Cena on the commentators table then did a mock count for a "Last Man Standing" match. Michael Cole announced that John Cena underwent surgery this past Tuesday and will be out at least 6 months. JBL said a new champ will be crowned at No Mercy on Sunday.

A "tale of the tape" picture was shown comparing the 5'6 Rey Mysterio to the 7 foot 3 240 pound Great Khali for tonight's main event




Chad Collyer and Mike Tolar vs. Jesse & Festus

The new tag team made their Smackdown debut. Before the match started, Jesse announced on the mic that Festus turns into a monster in the ring and has the face that will make believers of everyone.

When the bell rang Festus' facial expression changed to an evil grin on his face. Festus then leveled the two opponents as they tried to come at him, and continued to dominate. He eventually tagged in Jeese who displayed an array of high flying and running moves around the ring. Jesse continued to dominate and tried to get up on the ropes, but his opponent pulled his leg out. Collyer started to attack Jesse in the corner punching him down. Collyer tried to keep Jesse away from Festus, but Jessed managed to crawl over and make the tag.

Fesuts came into the ring slamming Collyer down the punching him in the corner. Mike Tolar tried to attack from behind but Festus flipped him over the ropes out of the ring. Jesse proceeded to jump off the side onto Tolar. Festus then beat up Collyer in the ring and put him up on one shoulder. Festus then dropped to the mat for a finisher with Collyer on his shoulder. Festus picked up the pin and as the bell rang, his demeanor went back to his normal out of match look.

Winners: Jesse and Festus win via pinfall over Collyer and Tolar




Michael Cole and JBL went over the matches for No Mercy this Sunday with Rey Mysterio facing Finlay, Triple H facing Umaga, CM Punk facing Big Daddy V and Batista vs Khali in the Punjabi Prison.

Rey Mysterio vs. The Great Khali

Mysterio stood in front of Khali, with his head reaching Khali's midsection. As the match began, Mysterio tried to attack the left leg of Khali early with kicks trying to dodge Khali. Khali managed to push Rey down and got the upperhand in the match. Khali continued to toss the much smaller Mysterio around, whipping him hard to the corner. Khali stalked Mysterio as he crawled on the mat, then Khali applied a grip to Mysterio's shoulder/neck area. Despite Khali applying pressure to Mysterio's muscle, Rey was able to reach over and grab the ropes to break it up. Khali went over and applied the grip again to Mysterio's shoulder, but this time Mysterio fought his way out. Khali responded with a kick to Mysterio knocking him out of the ring.

Khali went out of the ring to try to chop Mysterio near the steel steps. Rey moved causing Khali to slap his hand on the steps. Mysterio then got back in the ring and managed to dropkick Khali through the ropes. Mysterio got up on the ropes and prepared to jump off at Khali, but just then Finlay came down to the ring. Mysterio turned his attention to the ring and jumped onto Finlay who had shalalee in hand.

Mysterio managed to knock Finlay against the ropes. Rey then went to run against the opposite ropes for the 619, but Khali was outside the ring still and slapped him down from behind. Khali and Finlay started to attack Mysterio 2 on 1. Just then Batista's music came on and the champ ran down to the ring to save Mysterio. Batista slammed Finlay down, then speared Khali near the corner. Batista then exited the ring to grab a steel chair. Back in the ring, Batista delivered a chair shot to the back of Khali, causing him to roll out of the ring. Batista went wild as the crowd cheered and Khali held his head outside the ring. Smackdown went off the air with Batista checked on Rey Mysterio.

Winner: Rey Mysterio wins due to disqualification when Finlay entered the match.
