IGN's 2007 Wrestler of the Year

Popular online video game resource site IGN.com has named Umaga as its 2007 Wrestler of the Year.

IGN states the following reasons for this selection:

"In a year full of unimaginable tragedy with injuries and suspensions levied to nearly every top star, you'd have to pick the guy who missed the least time while remaining the most consistent. Umaga started the year as a midcard wrestler who was being groomed for a one-off match with John Cena, and along the way, he became an incredibly hot heel, pulling great matches out of Cena. He followed that by drawing loads of money in his match with Bobby Lashley before facing Triple H in his return series of matches. As a worker and performer, there may not be a more believable and effective character in WWE at the moment." (Source: IGN.com)

Shawn Michaels was chosen as runner-up for the award. Michaels appeared in many top notch feuds this past year, including some great contests against WWE champs John Cena and Randy Orton. Jeff & Matt Hardy and even MVP would also seem like good choices for the award. MVP was easily the top heel on Smackdown while Edge recovered from injury, and has held his US title for over 7 months now. Matt Hardy provided many great matches and victories, as did Jeff who is current holding the IC title and #1 contender status for the WWE title.
