Smackdown Recap 12.21.07

Smackdown Recap from Rochester, NY:

Tonight's show started with Smackdown General Manager, Vickie Guerrero being wheeled down to the ring by Teddy Long. Vickie had the World Heavyweight title in her lap and highlights of the Armageddon Triple Threat match were shown. Edge used several tricks during the contest, first ringing the bell to confuse the Undertaker, then having 2 Edge look-a-likes (the Major Brothers) enter the match. Edge finally won after a chair shot to Undertaker and a pin on Batista.

Teddy introduced a smiling Vickie to the crowd. Vickie then introduced the new World Heavyweight champ and love of her life, Edge. Teddy Long held the belt up in display with Edge's name on it. Teddy officially presented the belt to a smiling Edge. In his acceptance speech, Edge thanked Teddy Long, the Edge heads and two guys who emulated their hero, the Major Brothers. The tag team came to the ring dressed in Rated R superstar tights and hats, then introduced themselves as Kurt Hawkins and Zach Rider. Edge said they started out as the Majors just to get noticed but now have made it. Edge thanked Vickie for being the love of his life and showed a love song video of his injury rehab and times with Vickie. Finally, Edge thanked Batista for filling in as champ while he was gone. Edge said he will carry Smackdown now and promised tonight the fans will see him holding the belt up.

Hornswoggle & Finlay vs. Great Khali & Singh

Finlay faced off with Khali and went for the punch, but Khali tossed him to the corner. Khali began to punch away on the Irishman repeatedly. Khali whipped Finlay to the ropes then hit him with a solid boot to the face. Khali slammed Finlay down hard, then Singh slapped him high 5. The ref indicated that Singh was legal for the match and Hornswoggle ran over to the apron and pulled his pants down. Finlay got to his feet and tossed Khali over the ropes. Hornswoggle and Finlay then went out after their opponents. Hornswoggle grabbed a bucket from under the ring and threw confetti in Singh's face. The leprechaun then hit Singh on the head with the bucket and grabbed an umbrella. As Singh turned, Finlay had another bucket and tossed water in his face. The match ended in the ring with Finlay spinning Singh around and then Hornswoggle spalshing off the corner ropes.

Winners: Horsnwoggle & Finlay win via pinfall over Khali & Singh.

An ad was shown for next week's Smackdown, The Greatest Matches of 2007. Ric Flair came down to the ring in business suit to address the fans.

Flair wished everyone a Merry Christmas and discussed his views on the wrestling business. Flair said all he ever cared to be was the best, and now he has a win or retire stipulation from Vince McMahon. Flair spoke about having to wrestle HHH on Raw, and called him the greatest wrestler alive today. Flair said if he loses on Raw, at least he knows he lost to the best. Flair said if this happens he will have no regrets. As Flair walked away up the ramp he blew kisses to all the fans.

WWE Diva Maryse shown near a Christmas tree discussing the cold weather and saying she was glad she's inside to watch Friday night Smackdown.

CM Punk, Rey Mysterio & Kane vs. MVP, Mark Henry & Big Daddy V

Kane and Henry faced off with Henry beating on Kane in the corner. Kane punched his way out, but Henry whipped him to the corner. Kane punched Henry when he charged at him, then brought him over to tag Punk. Punk started punching away at Henry, but Henry was able to recover, then push him over for a tag to MVP.

MVP used several takedowns on Punk off the ropes, but Punk eventually escaped and whipped MVP to a corner. Punk with the knee ot MVP's face, and then tried for a bulldog. MVP shoved Punk to the corner then ran at him, and Punk eluded. Punk tried for several covers and rollup pins, with MVP kicking out. All 6 men eventually got into the ring with the ref in between them. Smackown hit commercial break.

Smackdown returned to action with MVP and Punk center of the ring. MVP backed Punk to the corner and tried to punch him but Punk fought back. Punk brought MVP to the corner and held him up after a tag to Rey. Rey did a springboard off the ropes and landed on MVP. Rey continued the fight and got a headscissors off the ropes before tagging Punk back in. MVP finally escaped and went over for a tag to V. V came in and Punk ran off the ropes at him with elbows. On the third one, V did a side slam on Punk driving him to the mat. V started to knock Punk around the ring and beat him up in the corner, then tagged Henry in.

Henry gave a couple kicks to Punk's gut before tagging MVP back in. MVP beat up Punk more, and V came back in. V lifted up Punk overhead, then dropped him to the mat. The three heels worked effectively to keep Punk away from his partners, and continued tagging one another in and out. Punk finally managed to escape and tagged in Kane. Kane took charge of MVP and prepared a chokeslam but V came in to intervene. Kane went out of the ring after V and then two fought outside.

Rey went for the 619 on MVP, but Henry came in and gave Rey a boot to the face. Punk got into it and hit Henry in the face with a knee. Punk then ran off the ropes and dove outside the ring, crashing into MVP. Rey took advantage of Henry who had fallen face first against the ropes, getting the 619. Kane returned to the ring and chokeslammed a stunned Henry. Rey finished Henry off with a frogsplash off the ropes for the pinfall victory. Kane, Rey and Punk celebrated in the ring post-match with their opponents stunned outside the ring.

Winners: Punk, Mysterio & Kane win via pinfall over Big Daddy V, Mark Henry and MVP.

Footage shown of Jamie Noble defeating Chuck Palumbo in a match despite Michelle McCool trying to distract Noble. The match stipulation granted Noble a date with Michelle which Michael Cole said occurred last Friday night. JBL angrily said that doesn't matter and what does is that tonight is his last show as a Smackdown commentator.

Last Friday's date between Michelle and Jamie shown at a restaraunt. Michelle ordered a $10 glass of wine and Noble asked for a bottle of Merlot. Noble told Michelle that he wants to introduce her to his grandmother and family. The waiter came to take the order and Noble ordered "French" items. The waiter said they didn't have those choices and Noble got angry.

Noble got into the man's face talking about French people and how Uncle Sam gave them jobs here in the US. Noble told the waiter to stop trying to mess up his date, but the waiter told Noble that they are at an Italian restaraunt. Noble remarked how Chuck Palumbo's Italian and he beat him 3 times. Noble gave Michelle an early Christmas gift, which was men's Old Spice cologne. Noble said she could use it to spray when he's not around and remember him. Noble tried to impress Michelle by yanking the tablecloth off the dining table but it didn't work so well. Noble called for the check as the footage ended.

Smackdown Smack of the Night showed Festus defeating Miz in a one on one match despite John Morrison trying to distract him.

Festus vs. Deuce
Santa Match

Jesse led Santa Festus down to the ring to face Santa Deuce, who had Domino and Cherry in his corner. Once the bell rang Festus transformed into a monster wrestler and started pounding away on Deuce. Deuce escaped the corner and began to beat up Festus. Festus quickly recovered and beat up Deuce more, but Domino distracted him on the apron. Festus managed to get out and had Deuce in the headlock, but Deuce escaped to hit Festus in the leg. A solid kick to Festus' head followed with Deuce taking him down to the mat. Deuce applied submission holds to Festus and kept him down. Deuce eventually knocked Festus out through the ropes, with his partner tossing Festus back in for more.

Deuce continued with a headlock on Festus. The two men got to their feet and started punching back and forth. Festus took the upperhand as he knocked Deuce to the mat then to the corner. Festus delivered a huge splash off the ropes, but Deuce kicked out of a pin.Domino got up on the corner ropes, but Jesse came over and shoved him off. With Festus distracted, Deuce tried to grab a santa bag to come at him. Festus avoided it and picked up Deuce on his shoulders to slam him down for a pin. After the bell, Festus went back into his pre-match look.

Winner: Festus wins via pinfall over Deuce.

JBL's Smackdown Farewell Adress

JBL told the crowd today is his last day on Smackdown. JBL said the good news is that he will be making his wrestling comeback, similar to other great comebacks. JBL said he's already been on Smackdown and taken it to greatness, but now he will take his wrestling abilities to Raw. JBL had footage shown of his interference in the Jericho vs. Orton contest at Armageddon. JBL said Jericho didn't apologize for bumping into him during the Pay Per View. but instead called out JBL. JBL said Jericho had the nerve to call him irrelevant. JBL said he's coming to Raw to headline PPV's and win championships. JBL said to put his name on the WWE belt now, and that 3 years from now people will be asking Jericho why he unleashed JBL. JBL said he is coming for Jericho first, and that he is the only "Wrestling God".

Batista vs. Edge
World Heavyweight Title

Michael Cole was joined by Tazz from ECW. Cole said Tazz will be his new Smackdown commentary partner in JBL's absence. Edge came down to the ring followed by the Major Brothers tag team and Teddy Long wheeling Vickie Guerrero down the ramp. Before the match could start, Vickie took the mic and announced this would be a 3 on 1 handicap match instead of just Edge vs. Batista.

Batista started off by shoving Kurt Hawkins to his corner. Hawkins recovered but Batista continued to beat him up, whipping him to the corner. Batista climbed to the middle rope and punched Hawkins repeatedly. Edge came over with the ref distracted and yanked Batista down against the ropes. Hawkins tagged in Ryder who started to kick Batista and choke him near the ropes. Batista started to fight his way out as he punched each of the men in the corner. Batista went for a Batista Bomb quick on Ryder in the ring, but Edge came in to prevent it.

Smackdown returned from commercial with Edge kicking Batista near the ropes. Batista fought back against Edge from the corner, but Edge tripped him to the mat followed by an elbow drop. Edge used a hold down on the mat around Batista's midsection, but Batista got to his feet. Batista went for a charge on Edge, but Edge avoided it and tossed Batista shoulder first into the corner ringpost. Batista finally managed a side slam on Edge off the ropes but Edge kicked out of the pin. Ryder tagged in and Batista began to manhandle him around the ring. Hawkins came in and Batista clotheslined him out of the ring then charged into Edge, knocking him off the apron. Ryder got onto the corner ropes and jumped at Batista. Batista grabbed him mid-air and slammed him to the mat, capturing a pinfall victory!

Batista started to celebrate with the World Heavyweight title in hand, but Vickie quickly got onto the mic and told Batista she had an announcement. Vickie said Batista could only win by pinning Edge for the title and demanded the match re-start. The ref called for the bell. Batista went wild as he pulled Edge back into the ring. Batista had Hawkins and Ryder outside the ring and set up a Batista Bomb on Edge. Just then, Hawkins and Ryder got back into the ring with a steel chair. After hitting Batista in the leg, the ref called for the bell for a DQ. The three men proceeded to attack Batista, and with the Animal down they delivered a Con-Chairto, leaving Batista down in the ring. As they all exited up the ramp, Edge took the mic and wished everyone a Merry Christmas.

Winner: Edge, Hawkins & Ryder win via pinfall over Batista.
