The 2008 Backlash PPV Card

Wrestlemania 24 is about two weeks past us, and now the fallout brings us to the Backlash Pay-Per-View. Backlash is scheduled for Sunday, April 27, 2008 at 8PM EST. The event will be held at 1st Mariner Arena in Baltimore, Maryland, and shown live on Pay-Per View (Satellite or Cable). Here's the PPV card with how each of the matches came about.

Backlash 2008 PPV Card

Fatal Fourway - John Cena vs. Triple H vs. JBL vs. Randy Orton - This match originally was announced by Raw GM William Regal as a one on one between JBL & Orton, but The Game felt otherwise. After, Triple H won a handicap match to add himself to the main event title match at Backlash, John Cena also made a claim he should be included. Cena won his 2 on 1 handicap match against HHH and JBL to earn a spot in the match, making it a Fourway. Now Orton will have to outwit and possibly outwrestle 3 competitors to retain his title, because he doesn't have to be pinned to lose the belt.

Edge vs. Undertaker - World Heavyweight match - A rematch carrying over from Wrestlemania 24, where the Deadman extended his Wrestlemania winning streak and brought the belt back around his waist. Edge still has the favor of Smackdown GM Vickie Guerrero in his corner, because she's also his romantic interest. Undertaker may have to overcome the odds of not only Edge, but his backup of Ryder and Hawkins if he wants to retain the belt.

Chavo Guerrero vs. Kane - ECW Title match - A second re-match coming from WM24. At the big event, Kane won a 24 man Battle Royal to earn #1 contender status. He was given a title match against Chavo at WM24, and used a sneak attack, as he entered the ring behind Chavo. A quick chokeslam and Kane had won the ECW title within just 8 seconds. Chavo continues to scream that Kane cheated to win, and now Chavo has the services of a "special enforcer" who debuted on ECW to attack Kane.

Big Show vs. Great Khali - For several weeks now, Khali and Big Show have been crossing into each other's territory and standing toe-to-toe and face-to-face. A Punjabi Peace Offering by Khali just didn't do the trick here, as Big Show responded to all of the gifts and gestures of peace with a huge right hand punch. Khali was left layed out in the ring, a sight that is rarely seen for the massive giant. Fans have to wonder if the ring will be able to hold these two behemoths as they do battle at Backlash.

Matt Hardy vs. MVP - US Title match - Matt Hardy at one time was not only the #1 contender for the US title, but also MVP's tag team partner. The duo held the belts for a bit of time, but during a loss to the Miz and Morrison, MVP showed his true colors by attacking Matt, sidelining him for months and basically keeping the US title the entire time. MVP played keep away for long enough, but now Hardy is back in the #1 contender spot and is looking to finally defeat his nemesis for the title, and bragging rights.

Batista vs. Shawn Michaels - Fans might see this as a "Brand Superiority match, Part 2", but it's really a contest that started after Shawn Michaels beat Ric Flair at Wrestlemania 24. The stipulation for Flair said he would have to retire when he lost a match, and HBK was the man to do the job. Batista took exception to Michaels retiring Flair, a longtime friend & mentor of the Animals. So now these two impressive wrestlers will go at it in the ring at Backlash in a raging rivalry.
