Smackdown Recap 04.11.08

Smackdown Recap from Boston, MA:

Smackdown opened with Michael Cole and Johnathan Coachman announcing tonight's unique main event of Festus vs. Undertaker. In the ring already was the Great Khali for a customary "Punjabi Peace Offering". The ring had a red carpet on it with dancers in costume who were all dancing around Khali. A man next to Khali spoke into a microphone about how Indians are a very peaceful people and Khali wants to offer a peace offering before things get any worse. Khali took the mic and began to speak indistinctly. Just then Big Show's music hit and the 7 footer made his way to the ring, as the dancers quickly exited.

Khali began to speak to Show and a man offered gifts including a beverage the man said was the "World's Finest". Show took a sip and then they presented him with a black chicken and a goat to provide him with eggs and milk. Show took a mic and said he can't describe how he feels right now, but he can show it. Big Show extended a handshake and Khali shook his hand, but soon after Big Show gave a right hand to Khali, knocking him out on the mat. The dancers outside the ring began to yell and look concerned. Khali was knocked out in the ring and Big Show exited up the ramp.

Coach noted that later tonight Batista and Shawn Michaels will have a "Face to Face". A poll was put up for Smackdown viewers to vote if Michaels did the right thing at Wrestlemania.

Jimmy Wang Yang & Shannon Moore vs. The Miz & John Morrison

Prior to the match The Miz and Morrison were shown dressed up as Jimmy Wang Yang cutting a promo to mock Moore and Yang.

In the match, Miz managed to distract the ref at one point, allowing Morrison to deliver a boot to Moore's head. The tag champs continued to work on Moore, keeping him away from the tag to Yang. Moore was able to deliver a kick to escape Morrison finally and in came Yang to fly around the ring. Yang knocked Morrison around and went for a pin, but Morrison kicked out. Yang ran at Morrison in the corner and Morrison seated him in the corner. Yang still was able to missile dropkick.

Miz and Moore got involved in things, but Yang knocked Miz out of the ring. Moore went out after Miz, and Morrison tried to capitalize by kicking down Yang. Morrison made a tag to Miz without Yang seeing it. Yang knocked Morrison to the outside, but then Miz was right there to score the finisher, pinning Yang.

Winners: The Miz & John Morrison win via pinfall over Jimmy Wang Yang & Shannon Moore.

Footage was shown of Teddy Long holding a towel while Edge and Vickie Guerrero were getting massages at a spa. Edge got up telling Vickie this was the best thing he could do in Boston to relieve the stress after Undertaker took his title. Vickie told Edge to just relax and they professed their love as the promo ended.

WWE Superstars Finlay and Hornswoggle made their return to Smackdown, coming out from backstage to the delight of fans.

Finlay vs. Matt Striker

During the match, Hornswoggle was at ringside and used a squirt gun to spray Striker in the face with a stream of water. Finlay followed with a hard clothesline and several more moves, until Striker gave a thumb to the eye. Striker used several dropkicks to kick Finlay out on the apron. Finlay came back into the ring and Striker continued to work on his arm down on the mat.

Finlay gained the advantage and was able to catch Striker in the apron cover outside the ring, then beat on him. Hornswoggle appeared with a bucket but it only contained confetti. Hornswoggle offered an umbrella to Striker but he refused, and then Finlay hit him with a bucket of water. Back in the ring, Hornswoggle snuck in and hit Striker with a balloon shilaleigh. Striker grabbed it as Hornswoggle scurried out. The ref came over and took away the balloon, but just then Finlay hit Striker with the real shilaleigh, then took the pin.

After the win, Finlay held Striker near the corner and Hornswoggle did the Tadpole Splash.

Winner: Finlay wins by pinfall over Matt Striker.

WWE Confrontation of the Week showed the Smackdown diva winner, Michelle McCool. Michelle beat WWE Diva Cherry in the finals to win a customized motorcycle. Victoria came out to spoil the victory by trying to attack Michelle. McCool got the upperhand, but then an unknown blond woman came to the ring and attacked Michelle and Cherry.

Victoria vs. Michelle McCool

WWE Diva Victoria came to the ring with the unknown blonde woman who attacked Michelle and Cherry last week. Victoria introduced her in the ring as Natalya Neidhart then introduced footage of Jim "the Anvil" Neidhart. Natalya then delivered a message for the other Smackdown divas: "When you mess with the best, you go down with the rest". The two
WWE Divas chuckled before Michelle was introduced.

Michelle stormed to the ring as Natalya exited. Michelle pushed Victoria away and tried to go after Natalya. Victoria attacked Michelle, who turned to counter the punches. The divas went to the outside with Michelle clothslining Victoria down. Back in the ring, Victoria hit a huge clothesline on Michelle, then began to manhandle McCool.

Michelle escaped near the corner, then tried to climb the ropes. Victoria came over to climb up as well and hit a Superplex on Michelle. McCool regained the advantage but as she went against the ropes Natalya threw her jacket at her. The distraction allowed Victoria to roll Michelle up then pull her tights to secure the pin.

Winner: Victoria wins by pinfall over Michelle McCool.

Michael Cole stood in the ring to discuss the recent confrontation involving Batista & Shawn Michaels. Cole introduced footage of how the rivalry started, which included HBK ending Flair's career at WM24, Flair's Farewell, Michaels discussing his emotions afterwards, and then the aftermath as Batista confronted him in the ring. A match was inked by Vickie Guerrero and William Regal for Backlash.

Cole introduced both Batista and Shawn Michaels to the ring next. Batista said they don't need an interviewer and talk show host in the ring. The two superstars stood face to face. Michaels said everyone's moved on, even Flair hugged him and has closure. HBK said the only person who hasn't moved on is Batista. HBK said that Batista has a problem with him, not with what went down at WM24. Batista said he respects what Michaels has done in his career, but not how he got to the top by backstabbing and stepping on others. Michaels told Batista he needed to take shortcuts and make sacrifices because he doesn't have the bulk and size like Batista does.

Michaels got in Batista's face and said come Backlash he'll knock his teeth down his throat. HBK went for a Superkick but Batista avoided it, then tried to get HBK into a Batista Bomb. HBK escaped and got out of the ring. Both men grinned and stared at each other as Michaels left up the ramp.

Matt Logan vs. Vladimir Kozlov

Kozlov arrived to the ring all business, with no theme music or pyro display. In the match he showed intensity as he quickly knocked Logan down and also withstood his attacks. Logan tried to gain momentum by jumping off the corner ropes at one point, but Kozlov caught him in the air then put him into a finisher to slam him on his back.

Winner: Vladimir wins via pinfall over Matt Logan.

Edge & Vickie shown with facial masks and cucumbers on their eyes, reminiscing about the spa treatment. The camera revealed Edge and Vickie also had females giving them matching pedicures. Teddy Long brought them some cocktails and was treated rudely by the couple as they gave him their cucumbers from off their faces. As the footage ended, Teddy remarked about the matching pedicures and shook his head at the lovestruck couple.

US Champion MVP made his way to the ring wearing a fancy suit and his title belt. MVP joined the commentators to watch the Matt Hardy matchup and provide his insight.

Matt Hardy vs. Chuck Palumbo

Cole noted that MVP has held the US title for 11 months now, but that Matt Hardy cost him the win at the MITB match. The 280 pound Palumbo rode down the ramp on his motorcycle for his entrance.

Palumbo was able to wrestle Matt down to the mat, but Matt soon got to his feet to fight back. Palumbo charged off the ropes to knock Matt down with a shoulder. Hardy was able to twist Chuck's arm behind his back, but Chuck backed him into a corner then elbowed him. Palumbo began to punch away on Hardy in the corner and started to dominate from here. After a headlock on Matt down on the mat, Matt again stood up. Chuck slammed Matt down then missed on an elbow drop.

Hardy took control and was able to deliver a kick to the back of Chuck's head. Palumbo and Hardy fought near the ropes and the two spilled outside in front of MVP. Hardy stood up and stared down MVP. Palumbo took advantage and hit Matt from behind causing Matt to crash into the table. Smackdown went to commercial with Chuck picking Matt up.

Smackdown returned with Palumbo getting a suplex on Matt in the ring. Palumbo started to punish Hardy slamming him around the ring, but not getting the pinfall. Matt began to fight back, until Chuck delivered a serious boot to the skull. Hardy kept at it, ducking a Palumbo clothesline to hit him with the Side Effect. Matt was able to hit Chuck with an elbow off the ropes, then a leg drop off the ropes. Matt went for Twist of Fate but Palumbo shoved him to the ropes then delivered a massive slam. Matt kicked out of the pinfall. Chuck hoisted Matt on his shoulder, but Matt slipped off then countered with the Twist of Fate!

After the win Matt looked out at MVP. MVP stood up and stared back then proudly showed Matt he still had the US title, before walking off up the ramp. Cole said next week will see Hardy against MVP.

Winner: Matt Hardy wins via pinfall over Chuck Palumbo.

WWE Diva Eve Torres was shown backstage knocking on the locker room of Jesse & Festus. Michael Cole said Eve will be attempting to interview the unique wrestler next.

Eve Torres talked to WWE superstars Jesse and Festus in the locker room before the upcoming match with Undertaker. Jesse said he's never seen Festus like this, but just hopes he's prepared. Jesse said he's talked to Festus all week to make sure he's focused, and this is the biggest match of his career. Jesse finished with "that is the face of the man who is about to go toe to toe with the Undertaker".

Coach introduced the theme song for Backlash "All Summer Long" by Kid Rock. Cole and Coach then ran down the PPV's matchs so far, including the Fatal Fourway, Edge vs. Taker, Big Show vs. Khali, Batista vs. Shawn Michaels and Chavo vs. Kane.

Undertaker made his way to the ring and Smackdown took a commercial break.

Smackdown returned with footage of Edge and Vickie in bed eating strawberries and whipped cream. The action got hot and heavy and the light went out. Just then Teddy Long began to yell as he turned the light back on. Teddy said he wouldn't stay around to witness this because it's beyond his call of duty. Long left the room and Edge turned the light back off as he kissed Vickie.

Festus vs. The Undertaker

As the bell rang, Festus went into a rage and charged at Taker. Taker delivered a quick boot and then went on the offensive, attacking Festus. Taker stayed in control, but Festus started to punch and headbutt back. Taker was able to go Old School on Festus from the ropes. Festus gained an advantage after whipping Taker to the ropes then slamming him down. In the corner Festus started punching away at Taker. Festus was able to clothesline Taker out of the ring. Taker landed on both feet then grabbed Festus' leg to pull him out.

Festus took control outside the ring as he beat on Taker, then tossed him back into the ring. Festus delivered upperhand shots to Taker and Taker fell out of the ring. Outside the ring, Festus tried to whip Taker to the post, but Taker countered, whipping Festus to the steel steps. Taker layed Festus on the apron then kicked him, elbowed him and landed a leg drop.

Back in the ring, Festus got on top of Taker and started to punch away. Both men got up and Festus started to punch at Undertaker. After being whipped to the ropes, Taker managed to get a DDT in, but couldn't keep a pin. The two huge opponents continued to battle it out. trading punches. Taker hit a huge clothesline to knock Festus to the mat, but Festus regained momentum to knock Taker down to the mat. Festus tried to pick up Taker, but Taker slid off then got the Chokeslam. Fetus got a leg on the ropes to prevent the 3 count. The two went out of the ring again, with Jesse checking on Festus.

After Undertaker went outside to retrieve Festus, Festus took control again in the ring. At one point, Festus whipped Taker to the corner where the ref was. Taker stopped himself to avoid hitting the ref, but then moved away as Festus charged. Festus ran into the ref in the corner, knocking him out of action. Festus delivered a huge boot to knock Taker to the mat, but there was no ref around.

Taker soon sat back up, then got up and grappled with Festus. Down on the mat, Taker locked Festus up in his submission hold. Jesse screamed for Festus to fight out of the hold. A ref came running down to the ring to call for the bell. Jesse ran into the ring and threw himself on Festus telling Taker no more. Taker stood in the ring with his belt, then posed on 1 knee as Smackdown went off the air.

Winner: The Undertaker wins via submission over Festus.
