ECW Recap 07.29.08

ECW Recap from Hershey, PA:

ECW opened with highlights of the Fatal Fourway last week between Matt Hardy, Finlay, John Morrison and the Miz. Morrison seemd to have the advantage and went to springboard off the top rope at Matt Hardy. Hardy kicked Morrison in the gut then hit him with the Twist of Fate to win it. Matt now moves on to face the ECW champ Mark Henry at Summerslam.

As ECW started, Tazz discussed the surprising turn of events on Raw last night with his former commentary partner, Mike Adamle, being named the new GM of Raw. Tazz introduced his new commentary partner, former Raw reporter, Todd Grisham.

Matt Hardy came to the ring to discuss his success so far in ECW and how he's looking forward to Summerslam. Tony Atlas and Mark Henry came to the ring to break up Matt's speech with Atlas claiming that Hardy is intimidated by the World's Strongest Man. Mark Henry did a demonstration with a strong steel rod that he bent to prove to Matt what will happen to him in their match. Atlas said Matt won't bend in the match though, he'll break when Henry gets a hold of him. Matt snatched the rod from Henry's hands then addressed the duo. Matt told them he'll never be broken, and unlike the rod Matt will fight back. Matt vowed to become next ECW champ at Summerslam.

Todd Grisham informed fans that the former tag champs Miz and Morrison will face Hornswoggle and Finlay tonight. ECW superstar Ricky Ortiz was shown walking backstage on his way out the ring.

Ricky Ortiz vs. Chavo Guerrero

Ortiz who recently claimed he is undefeated at 1-0 took on the veteran Chavo Guerrero, who was accompanied by bodyguard Bam Neely.

Chavo took control of Ortiz at one point slapping a headlock on him down on the mat. Chavo continued to hammer away at Ortiz and apply holds on the mat. Ortiz gained momentum and was able to go at Chavo in the corner. Chavo avoided Ortiz and then rolled him up near the ropes. Chavo used his feet on the ropes as leverage, with Bam trying to help from the outside. The ref caught the sneaky tactic and called for the bell, giving Ortiz another win.

After the bell, Bam Neely got in the ring and knocked Ortiz down from behind. Bam continued to beat up Ortiz and then Chavo Frogsplashed him off the corner ropes. As the two continued to go after Ortiz, Evan Bourne came charging to the ring and did a dropkick off the ropes to knock Chavo down. Next Bourne dropkicked Bam Neely off the apron and then quickly ran up the ramp to elude Chavo and Bam.

Winner: Ricky Ortiz wins due to DQ of Chavo Guerrero.

Backstage, Tony Atlas was talking to Mark Henry in a locker room when Colin Delaney arrived. Colin asked why they left him when he had his match against Tommy Dreamer last week. Tony Atlas said they want to see Delaney do something impressive if he wants to hang with them. Colin asked for another chance to prove himself, and Atlas suggested that Colin face Matt Hardy tonight to soften him up before Summerslam. Delaney seemed hesitant to take the match until Atlas assured him he and Henry will be at ringside.

Finlay & Hornswoggle vs. The Miz & John Morrison

Finlay fought against Miz and Morrison for most of the match with Hornswoggle on the side apron. Finlay finally managed a comeback and started taking it to Morrison. As Finlay climbed the corner ropes to finish off Morrison, Hornswoggle slapped Finlay's leg to tag in. Hornswoggle ran at Morrison and jumped to wrap his legs around Morrison's neck. Morrison responded with a vicious move to slam Hornswoggle face first to the mat, hard. Morrison took the pin to win it.

After Miz and Morrison had left the ring, Finlay checked on Hornswoggle. Mike Knox suddenly got into the ring and attacked. Knox knocked Finlay down then went towards the fallen Hornswoggle. Finlay got up with his shilaleigh and went at Knox, but Knox delivered a huge boot to knock Finlay to the mat.

Winners: The Miz & John Morrison win via pinfall over Finlay & Hornswoggle.

Lena Yada caught up with Mike Knox backstage asking why he just attacked Finlay. Knox said Finlay's become soft since joining ECW and that makes Finlay a target. Knox said he just took his shot at the target.

Backstage, Braden Walker came up to Matt Hardy and joked about his upcoming match against Colin Delaney. Walker told Hardy he'd have his back out there. Matt asked the wrestler's name again, then shook his hand as he walked off.

Highlights were shown of Colin Delaney interfering in the Dreamer vs. Henry ECW title match at Great American Bash. On the following week's episode of ECW, Teddy Long scheduled Delaney to face Dreamer. Dreamer dismantled Delaney in the ring en route to a victory.

Colin Delaney vs. Matt Hardy

Colin had agreed earlier to take on Hardy in an attempt to "soften him up" for Mark Henry's title defense at Summerslam. Delaney came to the ramp accompanied by Atlas & Henry. Atlas and Henry motioned for Delaney to head to the ring as they stayed at the top of the ramp. The duo nodded at Delaney as he got into the ring with Hardy.

In the match, Delaney had a very brief spurt of offense with Henry looking on smiling. Hardy regained control though and soon hit a Twist of Fate to easily defeat the undersized Delaney.

As Matt Hardy celebrate in the ring, Henry came down to the ring with Tony Atlas. Henry picked up Delaney in front of Hardy, then tossed Colin right out over the ropes. Henry seemed to be sending a message to Hardy as he exited the ring with Tony Atlas. Colin Delaney was left laying outside the ring.

Winner: Matt Hardy wins via pinfall over Colin Delaney.
