ECW Recap 08.12.08

ECW recap from Norfolk, VA:

Todd Grisham and Matt Striker opened the show announcing that tonight's main event will be a tag match. One side will have Matt Hardy team up with Mark Henry to face The Miz and John Morrison. Tommy Dreamer began to wheel a shopping cart of weapons and items down the ramp for the opening match.

Colin Delaney vs. Tommy Dreamer
Extreme Rules match

Delaney wouldn't get in the ring to start the match, mouthing "No way". The ref rang the bell and Dreamer left the ring to chase down Delaney up the ramp. Dreamer proceeded to beat up Delaney around the ring, throwing him into the shopping cart and against the steel steps. Delaney managed to turn things around though briefly and tried to jump at Dreamer with a trash can lid. Dreamer grabbed a Kendo stick and smacked it across Colin's midsection. Dreamer tossed Colin in the ring and used the Kendo stick for a slam move before hanging Colin upside down in the corner.

Delaney was on the receiving end of a trash can dropkicked into his face. Dreamer tried to do an elbow drop off the corner with a trash can lid, but Delaney moved away. Delaney again had brief momentum, until Dreamer countered and DDT'd him onto a stop sign.

Winner: Tommy Dreamer wins via pinfall over Colin Delaney.

Backstage, Lena Yada interviewed The Miz and John Morrison, congratulating them on the debut of "The Dirt Sheet". Highlights were shown of the show which mocked Mark Henry, Tony Atlas and Matt Hardy. Both Henry and Hardy showed up in the ring to confront Miz and Morrison. Hardy attacked them, and Morrison accidentally hit Mark Henry with a punch. Miz and Morrison referred to their upcoming match against Henry and Hardy saying "in life there are winners and losers".

Highlights were shown of this past Friday's Smackdown where members of La Familia were picked off one by one, leaving just Vickie and Chavo. The duo contemplated how to deal with things, thinking the Undertaker was behind it all. Edge came into the office and convinced them he could help. The three of them went to the ring. With chairs in hand, Edge pretended to call out Undertaker, then tricked Chavo into getting a chair off the mat. Edge smashed a chair across Chavo's back before dumping Vickie Guerrero out of her wheelchair and telling her the old Edge had returned, to bring her to Hell.

Evan Bourne vs. Bam Neely

Bam came out from backstage holding his jaw/chin with Chavo convincing him to fight anyways. Last week's highlights were shown of Evan Bourne and Ricky Ortiz defeating Chavo and Neely.

In tonight's match, Bourne had his hands full with the powerful Neely. Bourne tried for a headscissors but Neely used his strength to lift him. Neely was about to slam Bourne down, but Bourne escaped to quickly DDT him. Bourne followed with a Shooting Star Press off the corner ropes to win it as Chavo looked on from ringside.

Winner: Evan Bourne wins via pinfall over Bam Neely.

Teddy Long was talking business with his assistant Tiffany, when Armando Estrada showed up to interrupt. Estrada brought in his contract telling Teddy Long he won his match to earn a contract with ECW. Teddy signed the contract and asked Tiffany to bring in champagne for a toast. Teddy said now that Estrada's official they can celebrate, and tonight he can wrestle in a match, against Finlay.

Finlay vs. Armando Estrada

With Hornswoggle at ringside cheering on his dad Finlay, Mike Knox showed up at the top of the ramp to provide a distraction. Estrada began to take control of the match after yanking Finlay's tights causing him to hit the ropes. Knox continued to watch from the ramp as Finlay made a comeback, clotheslining Estrada down. Finlay delivered a Celtic Cross as he stared right out at Knox, then took the convincing pin.

After the win, Finlay motioned for Knox to come face him in the ring. Knox smirked then turned and walked backstage. Hornswoggle and Finlay danced with a young fan in the ring after the match had ended.

Winner: Finlay wins via pinfall over Armando Estrada.

Backstage Teddy was talking with his assistant Tiffany when Ricky Ortiz showed up. Ortiz pitched his new Ricky Ortiz rally towel as a merchandising strategy. Teddy said he knows Ortiz has been successful, but he's going to let him face a new superstar next week on ECW to prove himself again. Ortiz shook Teddy's hand, thanking him for the opportunity.

WWE Slam of the Week covered the events of last night's Raw with Cena and Batista losing their tag team titles then going at it in the ring. WWE security and refs scrambled to break the two apart.

Todd Grisham and Matt Striker ran down the list of matches for Summerslam, including CM Punk vs. JBL, HHH vs. Great Khali and Edge vs. Undertaker in a Hell in a Cell match.

Backstage Matt Hardy talked to Mark Henry about their upcoming match. Matt said he'd rather fight alone. Henry told Matt he only wants to get his hands on Miz and Morrison. Henry also added he hopes Matt gets in his way, because he'll go right through him, just like at Summerslam.

Mark Henry & Matt Hardy vs. John Morrison & The Miz

In the main event, Hardy and Henry seemed to work well together as they dismantled the tag champs. Matt took control over Morrison, then tagged in Henry to come deliver more punishment. Henry continued to kick and pummel Morrison, then tagged Hardy in. Morrison eventually rolled away from a Hardy elbow and tagged in Miz to take control. Miz briefly had the momentum but Hardy escaped him from the corner and bulldogged him to the mat.

Morrison eventually gained the upperhand and began to beat up Matt around the ring. Henry looked on trying to encourage Hardy to break free. Hardy elbowed Morrison in the corner then got up on the corner ropes. Morrison climbed up with him to suplex him to the mat but Matt countered and brought him down with a side slam. Henry continued to yell for a tag, but Matt took the pinfall with Morrison down. Matt won the match basically without Henry aiding him.

After the bell, Mark Henry and Tony Atlas demanded the ref raise Henry's arms as victor. Henry held up his ECW title for all to see with Matt Hardy trying to stand up near the ropes. Mark Henry went over and took Matt's arm to raise his arm up as well. The two went to center ring and Matt stumbled a bit, still hurting from the match. Henry pretended to be concerned, but grabbed Hardy and powerslammed him to the mat. Henry and Atlas exited up the ramp staring back at Hardy in the ring.

Winners: Mark Henry & Matt Hardy win via pinfall over John Morrison & The Miz.
