Rating Raw's New GM, Mike Adamle

This past Monday saw the debut of a new GM in the WWE, with a shocking revelation that ECW commentator Mike Adamle was awarded the job. Judging by the response then, as well as the response Adamle received at the start of this past Monday's show in Tennessee, the fans were not in favor of the decision. Adamle even reported that on a WWE forum, a thread was started calling for hims immediate resignation. However, despite all that and the speculation that Adamle would do no better as a GM than he did as an ECW commentator, you'd have to say he's off to a good start so far with the Raw brand.

Adamle's first big move came a week ago when he was introduced as new GM. He announced the inevitable blockbuster match between Cena and Batista. It wouldn't have mattered who was GM of Raw, this match was due to happen even if the two wrestlers themselves scheduled it. Raw's new GM made several great matches on Raw this past Monday though, with 3 of the championships up for grabs. Kofi Kingston and Mickie James successfully defended their two titles respectively against Paul Burchill and Katie Lea. However, the night's main event saw Batista and Cena defeat the young, cocky World Tag champs of Rhodes & Dibiase. A great match by Adamle, but not the best of the night. It was the 2 on 1 Handicap match that was something we hadn't seen before in terms of stipulations. JBL and Jericho each had a shot at pinning Punk, with the winner getting a shot at Punk's title at Summerslam. JBL won it by luck of the "bounce" and clock, but the stipulations kept it a fair match for all competitors. Nice move by the new GM.

GM Adamle has seemed to play the face role as GM so far, or maybe he's just more of a fair and balanced GM. It's clear neither Stepahanie or Shane wanted the job, been there, done that. Adamle's interactions were mainly with heels on his debut show, but he kept all the opportunities fair to all wrestlers involved. He made another match for Summerslam, allowing Santino Marella and Beth Phoenix to team up and take on Mickie James & Kofi Kingston. Winning team gets both the titles and bragging rights. Everyone's happy so far under Adamle's guidance.

It's hard to hate on Adamle as a GM so far. His acting skills aren't Oscar worthy, but it's obvious WWE believes in him as a talent. Adamle claims he will become the great GM fans talk about, similar to the way Ronald Regan went from B-list actor to president. So time will tell if Adamle goes from B-list commentator to a top-rated GM in the WWE.
