Smackdown Recap 08.08.08

Smackdown Recap from Atlanta, GA:

Smackdown kicked off with Jim Ross joined by Tazz for commentary. Tazz replaced Mick Foley who was viciously attacked last week by Edge during the Cutting Edge show. JR announced that Jeff Hardy will face Shelton Benjamin the US champ later on in a non-title bout. Also, Triple H and Great Khali will have an "Indian Glass" Arm wrestling match. WWE Diva Maryse was introduced to start the first match of the night.

Michelle McCool, Cherry & Maria vs. Maryse, Victoria & Natalya

Each of the six divas in the tag match came out wearing a costume to represent their country and an Olympic sport. Maryse came out in tennis gear, Victoria in a Gymnastics suit, Natalya in horseback riding gear, Cherry in boxing attire and Maria wearing skiing gear.

At one point in the match, Natalya gained the upperhand on Maria and tossed her out through the ropes. Natalya rushed over and knocked into Michelle, who took exception and got in the ring. The ref worked to keep McCool from going after Natalya, which allowed Cherry to get into the ring, kick Natalya and plant her face first into the mat. Victoria snuck in and grabbed Cherry then hit the Widows Peak on her. Michelle came in and kicked Victoria in her face. Maryse grabbed Michelle and tossed her out of the ring. Maria had got back in the ring and grabbed Maryse for the Bulldog. Maria thought she was in control but Natalya blindsided her, knocked her to the mat and made her submit to a Sharpshooter.

Winners: Maryse, Victoria & Natalya win via submission over Michelle McCool, Cherry & Maria.

Backstage, Ryder & Hawkins were clearing some barrels and other objects away near a forklift. Chavo Guerrero came rushing over as did Vickie in her wheelchair. They found Bam Neely knocked out next to the forklift with a black rose nearby. Vickie looked at the rose puzzled as to what was going on.

Jimmy Wang Yang & Shannon Moore vs. Ryder & Hawkins

The tag champs fought on Smackdown in a non-title bout vs. Yang & Moore. Yang was seemingly dominated by Ryder & Hawkins but ducked a clothesline attempt and tagged in Moore. Moore rushed in to begin knocking down Ryder and knocked Hawkins off the apron. Moore hit a bodypress splash off the ropes but Hawkins entered to break the pin up. Yang came in to fight off the doubleteam, and the ref began to restrain Yang back to the apron. Ryder & Hawkins hit a double DDT move while the ref was distracted. Hawkins rushed over to punch Yang off the apron and the ref turned around to count the pinfall by Ryder on Moore.

Winners: Ryder & Hawkins win via pinfall over Jimmy Wang Yang & Shannon Moore.

Backstage, WWE Diva Eve Torres interviewed MVP about his attack on Jeff Hardy during Saturday Night's Main Event. MVP said he kicked Jeff in retaliation for Jeff attacking him during a match on Smackdown. MVP vowed to defeat Hardy in their upcoming Summerslam match, saying he's better than everyone.

Jeff Hardy vs. Shelton Benjamin

In the non-title bout, Jeff went to the corner ropes but Shelton ran and jumped up to attack him. Jeff shoved Shelton off then went for a Swanton, with Shelton rolling out of harm's way. Shelton went for a pinfall with Jeff nearly escaping before a commercial break.

The match continued and Shelton was able to exploit a leg injury to hobble Jeff Hardy. Shelton also had an impressive counter from the corner as Jeff went for a swining dropkick using the ropes. Shelton was able to get up and catch Jeff on his shoulder, then did a running slam to the mat, but again couldn't capture a pinfall. Jeff got up and pushed Shelton away as he tried for his finisher, then hit a Twist of Fate. Jeff got up on the corner and hit the Swanton finally, but as he was about to get up, MVP rushed into the ring and kicked Jeff in the head, causing a DQ. MVP posed over Hardy with his gold necklace in hand before exiting the ring.

Winner: Jeff Hardy wins due disqualification over Shelton Benjamin when MVP interfered.

Backstage in an office Chavo told Vickie she knows exactly what the black rose means, its the symbol of death from the guy she reinstated. Ryder came rushing in and told Chavo he hasn't seen him anywhere since the locker rooms, meaning his partner Hawkins. Chavo sent Ryder back out in search of him.

Triple H vs. Great Khali
Indian Arm Wrestling match

Singh told Triple H before the match that Khali wanted to say something. Khali took the mic and began speaking in his native language, before giving the mic back. Sing translated for Triple H saying Khali told him to get out while he's still champ of WWE. Singh said Khali doesn't care if HHH has defeated the greats of the industry like Stone Cold, the Rock and John Cena, because they don't compare in size to the Punjabi Giant. Triple H made fun of Runjan Singh then told him to put Khali back in the lamp he rubbed to get him from. Triple H said he has a plan to defeat Khali and will cut him down to size. HHH called Khali a Jolly Genie then said he has two words if Khali's not down with that.

The two prepared to arm wrestle on the table center ring with a ref officiating. They stared menacingly at one another and the ref started it. HHH turned red in the face trying to force Khali's arm down, but couldn't. Khali began to push HHH's arm the other way. Both men strained in the contest, giving all their might. Triple H started to get the advantage and was near to beating Khali when Khali grabbed his hair then headbutted Triple . From here, Khali still had Triple H's arm tied to his and untied him then went for a two handed slam to the mat. HHH escaped it then battled back, setting Khali up for a Pedigree. Khali blocked it with an arm on HHH's leg. After HHH went off the ropes, Khali chopped him down with a hand, then applied the vive grip around HHH's skull. Triple H fought to get out as he went down to the mat on both knees, then soon was out of it down on the mat. Singh grabbed the mic and said Khali has two words "Game Over".

Winner: Triple H wins due to disqualification of Great Khali, arm wrestling contest did not end with a win.

Smackdown returned with a pan shot outside the Atlanta, Georgia arena. The camera cut to an inside shot of Hawkins knocked out in a corner with a black rose laying on him.

A promo was shown for upcoming Smackdown wrestler R-Truth, playing basketball outdoor with youths.

Chavo told Vickie in a backstage office that Bam, Ryder and Hawkins have all wound up attacked now, and they're probably next. Chavo said it can only be one person doing it, the Undertaker. Vickie said there's no way. Chavo said they need to go fight this because it's up to them.

WWE Rewind showed Vladimir Kozlov higlights of him decimating various opponents to continue an impressive undefeated streak in WWE.

Jesse vs. Vladimir Kozlov

Festus accompanied Jesse to the ring for the match. As the bell rang, Festus had yet to leave the ring and started to go crazy. Jesse had to help the ref get Festus to leave the ring, but as Jesse turned he was met by a Kozlov boot to the face. Kozlov continued to dominate but Jesse was able to escape him in the corner by kicking his way out. Jesse kept Kozlov on the mat and stomped on him then went to the corner ropes to jump. Kozlov headbutted Jesse down out of the air and took the pinfall. After the bell rang, Kozlov left the ring and stared at Festus who was in his post match stupor.

Winner: Vladimir Kozlov wins via pinfall over Jesse.

Highlights were shown from Monday night Raw's tag team title match between Batista/Cena and Rhodes/Dibiase. The uncooperative duo of Cena and Batista were able to win it on a Batista Bomb, capturing the World tag titles.

Jim Ross and Tazz covered the full card for Summerslam PPV including Khali vs. HHH, Cena vs. Batista, Edge vs. Undertaker and the important announcement from HBK regarding his WWE career.

Backstage Chavo told Vickie they need to do something for survival's sake regarding the attacks that have been happening. Vickie looked upset as she pulled the flower off a black rose and was shaking.

Super Crazy vs. Brian Kendrick

Kendrick came to the ring with his bodyguard Ezekiel. Prior to the match, Kendrick spoke on the mic about being intelligent and the most powerful man in WWE. Kendrick introduced his advisor, Ezekiel right before Super Crazy came rushing down to the ring.

Super Crazy gained momentum at one point and did a moonsault backflip onto Kendrick on the mat. Super couldn't capture the pin and got up to see Ezekiel staring at him. Super Crazy continued to be in control and went to the corner turnbuckle for a moonsault. Ezekiel got up on the steel steps and stared at Super Crazy, distracting him enough for Brian Kendrick to attack. Kendrick grabbed Super Crazy and did his running DDT style move from off the corner with Crazy. Kendrick took the pin and after the bell Ezekiel came in the ring to hit Super Crazy with a few backbreakers.

Winner: Brian Kendrick wins via pinfall over Super Crazy.

Chavo was with Vickie when a knock came at the door. Edge came in and shook hands with Chavo, then spoke to Vickie. Vickie yelled at Edge angrily and asked her to look past everything. Edge said they need to get past it because he, Chavo and her can't let Undertaker get them like he got Bam, Ryder & Hawkins. Edge asked them to do this his way. Chavo convinced her to go along with it and they all left the office en route to the ring.

Smackdown returned with Edge, Chavo and Vickie Guerrero all in the ring. Chavo had a couple steel chairs in hand as Edge yelled on the mic for Undertaker to come get them. Edge took the 2 chairs and Chavo wheeled Vickie back to the corner of the ring. Edge continued looking out to the ramp for Undertaker, then dropped a chair to the mat. Chavo came over to pick up a chair but as he was bent down, Edge cocked back the steel chair and smashed it onto Chavo. Chavo fell to the mat, where Edge proceeded to attack him, eventually doing the Con-Chairto.

Vickie screamed from the corner of the ring at Edge who came up to her. Vickie continued crying as Edge picked up her wheelchair and shook it to scare her. Edge turned away for a moment as if he didn't want to hurt Vickie. The fans began to boo and Edge turned back, grabbed Vickie's wheelchair and dumped her onto the mat.

Edge crawled over to a hysterical Vickie in the corner of the ring and asked her why she's so nervous. Edge said maybe it's because the person to be nervous about isn't Undertaker, but him. Edge said Hell in a Cell isn't punishment for him, because he's returned to the Edge he used to be. Edge then vowed to take all of La Familia down to hell with him, especially Vickie.
