"Shoot for the moon - if you miss, you may hit a star." - Walter "Killer" Kowalski

The WWE lost one of its all-time greats this past Saturday, as legend Walter "Killer" Kowalski died at the age of 81. Kowalski had his wrestling career start in 1947 and it spanned 30 years at wrestling events all over the world.

Memorable moments of his career included a run as tag team champs with Gorilla Monsoon during the 60's and 70's, as well as Kowalski providing the toughest contender for Bruno Sammartino's WWE title. Kowalski used the signature 'Iron Claw" to finish off opponents. He finished his wrestling career in 1977, but opened his own school to train up-and-coming talent. He's most famous for training two other WWE legends, former superstar, Big John Studd and current WWE champion, Triple H.

Kowalski was inducted in WWE's Hall of Fame as part of its Class of 1996. Triple H, who credits Kowalski as his biggest mentor, inducted the legend at the official induction ceremony.

Kowalski suffered a severe heart attack on August 8, 2008, and was hopitalized. There were erroneous reports that his family had removed him from life support on August 18th. Kowalski is survived by wife Theresa, and according to WWE's tribute was known as a "kind gentleman who loved life to the fullest".

According to Wikipedia: "Jim Ross who at the time was part of Smackdown's commentary team, received a email about Kowalski's death and latter said "God Bless you Walter....thanks for the kindness and friendship you bestowed upon me and may you rest in eternal peace.""

Rest in peace to a true legend in World Wrestling Entertainment, Walter Killer Kowalski, 1926-2008.
