ECW Recap 10.28.08

ECW Recap from San Diego, CA:

ECW opened with GM Teddy Long dressed up as Ron Burgundy from "Anchorman". Long presented a news brief style intro saying tonight's show will feature The Miz & John Morrison presenting a special edition of "The Dirt Sheet" where they will examine D-Geriatric X, the tag team they will be replacing. Long also said the show will include a special six man tag team match, with Mark Henry teaming up with Chavo Guerrero and Bam Neely to do battle with Finlay, Evan Bourne and ECW Champ, Matt Hardy. Long told San Diego to "stay classy" and then said "I'm a Moron". The camera cut to the teleprompter and Long asked who wrote that. Just then Hornswoggle popped up and began laughing as he ran over to Teddy and started doing circles around him. Long yelled at Hornswoggle saying he has a show to do.

Finlay, Evan Bourne & Matt Hardy vs. Bam Neely, Chavo Guerrero & Mark Henry
Six Man Tag Team Match

This match saw a frantic finish as all of the men in and around the ring became involved! Matt Hardy was the legal man against Chavo Guerrero and gained offensive momentum as he landed an elbow to the back of Chavo's head. Matt signaled for the Twist of Fate, but from the apron Bam Neely slapped Matt. Matt turned and punched Neely down, then turned just in time to grab Chavo in a Side Effect. Bam entered the ring to try to break up Matt's pinfall. Bam did an elbow drop but Hardy moved away and Bam ended up landing on Chavo.

Mark Henry got into the ring and grabbed Matt for a World's Strongest Slam. Hornswoggle ran into the ring past the ref and began to bite Henry's leg. As the ref became distracted with Hornswoggle, Finlay entered the match and clocked Henry over the head with a shilaleigh. Tony Atlas reached into the ring and yanked on Finlay's leg to pull him to the outside. Hornswoggle saw it and ran over to dive out through the ropes onto Atlas. Meanwhile, Chavo saw Matt Hardy down in the ring and got up on the corner turnbuckle. Matt tried to go over and fight him but Chavo shoved Matt down to the mat, then jumped off for a Frogsplash to win it.

After the loss, Bourne, Finlay and Hornswoggle checked on Hardy down in the ring. They scowled as they stare out at Atlas, Henry, Chavo and Bam who were up on the ramp recovering.

Winners: Bam Neely, Chavo Guerrero and Mark Henry win by pinfall over Finlay, Evan Bourne and Matt Hardy.

Video footage was shown with John Cena's father and brothers discussing how John grew up loving wrestling. Family movie footage was shown of young John Cena, and his brothers discussed how they used to always play sports and wrestle. The video ended saying Cena will return for the 2008 Survivor Series in November.

Matt Striker mentioned that Survivor Series is already sold out, then they launched into Todd Grisham's interview with Jack Swagger from last week's show. Swagger said "Tommy who?" when Grisham asked Swagger about his feud with him.

Backstage, Lena Yada talked to Tommy Dreamer about what Swagger said. Dreamer said it's his 19th anniversary as a wrestler. Dreamer said his wrestling is always about the fight. Dreamer called out Swagger for being bigger and weighing more, saying Swagger should be able to defeat him in about 5 minutes if he's so good. Dreamer asked Swagger what happens when he defeats him though.

Tommy Dreamer vs. Jack Swagger

Prior to the match, Matt Striker mentioned Smackdown vs. Raw 2009 comes out November 9th, and Wrestlemania 25 tickets go on sale November 8th.

At one point in the match, Dreamer used a flurry of punches to knock Swagger to the outside. Dreamer went out after him near the commentators' table, but Swagger brushed Dreamer aside then got back into the ring. Dreamer got on the apron to get back in, but Swagger ran over to deliver a knee to Dreamer. Swagger took control as ECW went to commercial.

ECW returned with Matt Striker noting Swagger had focused an attack on Dreamer's neck during the break. Swagger continued to beat on Dreamer and put on a neck hold down on the mat. Dreamer battled out but Swagger jumped back on Dreamer and punched him more. Swagger tried for a splash by dropping off the corner onto Dreamer, but Dreamer rolled away. Dreamer mounted some offense and hit a swinging neckbreaker on Swagger then a bulldog off the ropes. Dreamer seemed ready to win it and signaled for a finisher. As he tried to pick up Swagger, Swagger fought his way out.

Dreamer got back to the corner and jumped off the second rope to knock Swagger down, then climbed to the top rope. Swagger was quick to jump up to the corner and went after Dreamer. Dreamer knocked him off. Swagger countered a Dreamer DDT with a pin, but Dreamer escaped it. Swagger eventually reversed a rollup pin by Dreamer to use his finishing slam move on Dreamer.

Winner: Jack Swagger wins via pinfall over Tommy Dreamer.

Todd Grisham announced that this Friday on Sci-Fi, the Miz will be a part of Ghost Hunters starting at 7PM EST for Halloween night.

The Dirt Sheet with Miz & Morrison

ECW's final segment was a special edition of "The Dirt Sheet", where The Miz and John Morrison examined the tag team they will face next week on Raw, DX. The Miz called he and Morrison the greatest tag team of this century. Morrison said tonight they'd take a look at this historic tag team, DX. Miz asked Morrison what he was doing in 1997 when DX started. Morrison and Miz both said they were still in high school. Miz said since then he and Morrison have gone on to great fame. Morrison mentioned that HHH and HBK have won a combined 16 world championships, and each have gotten married and had families.

Morrison and Miz rolled a video to insult DX, calling HHH inadequate for using a big sledgehammer. Morrison mentioned that HBK calls himself sexy and cute, then questioned the mullett HBK has and the chaps he wears to the ring. Miz said Triple H may be "The game" but nobody has more game than he does. At the end Miz and Morrison said they approve the message, in jest of the political commercials going on right now.

Miz and Morrison then introduced a pair of fake DX spoofs. One man had a huge fake nose to poke fun at HHH, and both wore blonde wigs with DX gear. Morrison asked the fake HHH if he had anything to say. The fake HHH started to ask "Are you ready?" but Morrison pulled the mic away saying they don't care what they have to say. Miz says in one year he and Morrison have almost surpassed all of the accomplishments DX has in 11 years. Miz said on Monday's Raw they will prove they are better than DX. The fake HBK took the mic and told Miz he had "two words", but Miz yanked the mic away and said he had five for him, then slapped the fake HBK down. Miz and Morrison each did their finishers on the men to leave them layed out in the ring, then ended the segment saying "Be Jealous!"
