ECW Recap 01.27.09

ECW Recap from Cleveland, OH:

ECW General Manager Theodore Long made his way down to the ring all smiles. In the ring, Teddy showed highlights of the Royal Rumble where ECW member Matt Hardy betrayed his own brother, Jeff in the WWE Title match. Matt hit Jeff with a chair shot to everyone's dismay, allowing Edge to pin Jeff and become WWE Champion. Theodore Long said as a result of what happened Matt has asked to be released from ECW and will sign with Smackdown. Teddy said he approved it and wishes Matt good luck. As Teddy began to hype up tonight's show, ECW Champion, Jack Swagger came down the ramp to the ring to interrupt.

Swagger told Teddy he's got a great show because he has a new face for his franchise. Swagger announced they'd celebrate it by having a Championship celebration on ECW tonight. Swagger dropped the music and began displaying the ECW belt to the crowd cockily. All of a sudden, the lights went dim and Boogeyman's music came on. The Boogeyman came out from under the ring and Swagger quickly exited up the ramp. Boogeyman began dancing around the ring with worms dripping out of his mouth.

Ricky Ortiz vs. The Boogeyman

Ortiz came into the ring while talking on a mic, telling Boogeyman he didn't need to eat worms to get the fans behind him. Ortiz said all he needs is the Ricky O Ralley towel, and began to twirl it in front of Boogeyman. Boogeyman rushed over and punched Ortiz down then started to attack. Ortiz rolled out of the ring holding his throat and began to back up the ramp, heading backstage.

Winner: No match officially started.

Theodore Long was shown backstage on his cellphone discussing The Wrestler and Mickey Rourke. A knock came at the door and in came Jack Swagger. Swagger told Teddy his ECW title was missing and he wasn't sure who took it. Swagger asked Teddy what he was gonna do about it. Teddy said nothing since he has to run the show tonight. Instead Teddy suggested Jack go talk to Tiffany, if she's available.

Finlay vs. Paul Burchill

Burchill had Katie Lea at ringside for the match, while Finlay came to the ring without Hornswoggle. As Finlay got to the ring, Hornswoggle peeked out from under the ring and they slapped hands.

At one point in tonight's contest, Burchill had the advantage with Finlay down in the ring. Outside the ring, Hornswoggle came out and ran up to Katie Lea, chasing her around the ring. Burchill slid out and chased Hornswoggle who ran back under the ring. Burchill tried to pull Horney out by his feet, but Finlay did a baseball slide dropkick to knock Burchill down. Finlay took control in the ring afterwards with a clothesline and sitting splash, followed by a huge slam and eventually the Celtic Cross to win it.

Winner: Finlay wins via pinfall over Paul Burchill.

Ricky Ortiz was shown backstage holding his head and talking to Tiffany about Boogeyman. Tiffany said how Boogeyman freaks her out just as Jack Swagger walked up. Swagger told her she heard what Teddy said and now she was going to help him find his ECW title. The two left with Ortiz still holding his head after Boogeyman's earlier attack.

ECW returned with the trailer for John Cena's upcoming movie, "12 Rounds". The movie plot involves Cena playing a cop who must go 12 Rounds with a villain he upset in the past. March 27 is the official opening date for "12 Rounds".

Mark Henry was shown walking in a backstage hall with Tony Atlas. Jack Swagger and Tiffany came up to ask if they've seen his ECW title belt. Angrily, Mark Henry asked if he thought he took it, then told him even if he did, Swagger wouldn't do anything about it. Henry and Atlas walked off, and Tiffany shrugged at Swagger.

A replay of footage from last night's Raw was shown involving 2009 Royal Rumble winner Randy Orton. Orton revealed to the WWE Universe he has IED - Intermittent Explosive Disorder, which causes him to lose control when provoked, and become violent. Orton claimed he wasn't responsible for what he did to Mr. McMahon a week ago, and had lawyers and a therapist to back him up. Orton added that if Stephanie McMahon tried to fire him, he'd sue her and the WWE. Later in the night when Stephanie came to the ring, Orton got into the ring and demanded that Stephanie fire him. Raw wrestlers lined up on the ramp and Orton yelled he'd take everyone down with him.

Stephanie said firing Orton would be way too easy, and Shane McMahon emerged from backstage to come beat up Orton. The fight continued in the ring with Cody Rhodes and Ted Dibiase doing their best to break it apart, holding Shane back. It continued up the ramp with various wrestlers eventually pulling them apart.

Tommy Dreamer vs. Mark Henry

Early on Dreamer gave Henry all he had, throwing punch after punch. Dreamer avoided a charging Henry in the corner, then tried to roll him up. Henry wouldn't budge and instead grabbed Dreamer's arm and sat on it. From there, Henry continued to punish the hurt left arm. Dreamer tried to fight back and came off the ropes, but Henry leveled him yet again. Henry maintained control by working the left arm, but as he came off the ropes he missed on an elbow drop. Dreamer gained momentum as he hit a dropkick on a seated Henry, then was able to clothesline Henry from off the second rope, knocking Henry to the mat. Dreamer continually dropkicked Henry in the leg, and then in the chest in the corner of the ring. Dreamer went for a move off the second rope, but this time Henry caught him in mid air and hit the World's Strongest Slam.

Winner: Mark Henry wins via pinfall over Tommy Dreamer.

Tiffany and Jack Swagger were shown backstage saying they looked everywhere for the ECW Championship belt and couldn't find it. Teddy said there's only one way to handle it, they'd go to the ring and get his title back. Swagger nodded and followed Tiffany and Teddy out of the office.

ECW returned with ECW GM Teddy Long, his assistant Tiffany and ECW Champ Jack Swagger in the ring. Teddy got on the mic and demanded whoever took Swagger's belt to bring it out because the joke is over. Nobody showed up for several moments. Teddy continued to call them out saying they'd face disciplinary action. Finally, Swagger grabbed the mic saying he wants the title back right now. Suddenly, Finlay's music came on and Finlay came down to the ring with a mic in hand. He said he had a good idea who has the title, and looked under the ring. Hornswoggle was shown holding the belt and laughing. Finlay chased him a bit outside the ring, then brought him into the ring.

Inside the ring, Finlay tried to explain how Hornswoggle has a tendency to take things that aren't his. Swagger told Finlay he needed to tell his "ogre son" to hand the belt back right now and then accused Finlay of putting Hornswoggle up to it. Finlay took exception saying if he wanted the title he'd take it off Swagger. Jack responded saying the only thing worse than Finlay's chances of winning the belt are his chances of being a good father. Finlay told Hornswoggle to hand the belt back over and as he was, Swagger grabbed the belt and shoved Hornswoggle down. Finlay quickly clocked Swagger, knocking him out on the mat. ECW ended with Swagger layed out in the ring and Finlay & Hornswoggle on the ramp.
