Raw Recap 06.08.09

Raw Recap from New Orleans, LA:

Highlights were shown from the Extreme Rules match between Orton and Batista for the WWE Title in a Steel Cage. Batista unleashed his full rage on Orton in the cage. Orton turned the tide at one point and went for a Punt Kick on The Animal. Batista avoided it, then Orton tried to climb out. Batista grabbed him and was able to hit a Batista Bomb to capture the winning pinfall.

Lillian Garcia introduced the new WWE Champion, Batista, and the crowd went wild. Batista came out in street clothes displaying the Championship belt to the fans as he came down the ramp. Batista told the fans he's now a five-time heavyweight champion. Batista made reference to a 16-time champ who's watching, Ric Flair. Batista said he won the title for himself, Flair and all the fans as well as everyone who's sick and tired of Randy Orton. Batista said he will continue to hurt Randy Orton for all the people he's hurt. As Batista continued to talk, Orton came out from backstage and stared at Batista from the ramp. Batista looked all around to make sure Legacy wasn't going to attack. Orton continued down the ramp, contemplating if he should get in the ring or not.

All of a sudden, Legacy came into the ring and Orton did as well. Batista did a good job to fight them of, until he went for a Batista Bomb on Orton. Rhodes struck Batista with a chair from behind. All 3 men began to attack Batista, with Orton and Rhodes holding him down. Dibiase and Orton continually stomped on Batista's left shoulder. Orton picked up a chair and wedged Batista's arm in it. Orton stomped on the chair repeatedly as the Animal screamed out in pain. Orton sat down and started yanking Batista's arm to further hurt him. With Batista down and in pain, Orton picked up the belt and cockily displayed it as if it was his still. Several WWE officials/staff came into the ring to check on Batista, as Orton left with Legacy and the WWE belt.

As Raw returned, two WWE staff were escorting Batista to an ambulance. Batista was put on a stretcher and strapped in, then put into the back of the ambulance which took off. While he was being loaded into the ambulance he said one of the straps was too tight on his arm and asked the WWE staff to get his WWE title for him. Jerry Lawler commented he's never seen such a heinous attack on a man who had just won the WWE title. Lawler and Cole revisited the attack from moments ago claiming that Legacy targeted Batista's left arm and Orton eventually "snapped it".

Kofi Kingston vs. William Regal

Lillian Garcia incorrectly announced Kofi Kingston as the Intercontinental Champion on his way into the ring. Highlights were shown from last week's Raw where Kofi defeated MVP for the title. As Regal came down the ramp, he had a mic in hand and said the last thing people need in these trying times is a Jamaican US Champion. Regal said he can be the fans' savior as US Champion.

Early on Kofi took Regal down with a dropkick but as Kofi jumped off the corner, Regal hit him in the gut with his fist to take control. Regal stayed in control for quite a bit and went for a knee to Kofi's head, but Kofi moved away to avoid it. Kofi caught Regal out of nowhere with the Trouble in Paradise roundhouse kick to win it.

Winner: Kofi Kingston wins via pinfall over William Regal.

Backstage, Rhodes and Dibiase were with Orton in the locker room saying that Batista was done and not coming back. Josh Matthews rushed in to ask Orton about the situation. Orton told him that Batista's out, and he plans to invoke his rematch clause. Orton said if Batista doesn't show up, he wins the title by forfeit. Orton said one way or another he'll win the WWE title by the end of Raw.

Jerry Lawler said that John Cena will finally face The Miz tonight in the ring.

Kelly Kelly vs. Maryse
WWE Divas Championship

Mickie James watched the match providing commentary with Cole and Lawler. Kelly Kelly went on the offensive early on and was able to flip away from Maryse who grabbed her leg. The two divas caught each other with a double clothesline. Kelly Kelly managed to get several near pinfalls as she had momentum. After a crossbody off the ropes, Kelly still was unable to capture the pin. Kelly Kelly got up on the second rope again, but Maryse went over and grabbed her leg to yank her off the ropes. Kelly fell to the mat, then Maryse grabbed her for the DDT finisher.

After the win, Maryse started taunting Kelly Kelly by showing her the Divas belt and slapping her head. Mickie James came in the ring to her defense, and Maryse backed down, leaving the ring.

Winner: Maryse wins by pinfall over Kelly Kelly to retain the Divas Championship.

Lawler and Cole discussed the possibility of a WWE Championship match, and Orton possibly winning by forfeit.

A commercial aired after Raw left to advertise next week's special 3 hour Raw which will be "The 3-For-All" and includes superstars from all 3 brands, with the 3 major titles also on the line.

Lawler and Cole joked about the Swine Flu, then showed highlights from Extreme Rules' Hog Pen match, Santina vs. Vickie for the Miss Wrestlemania crown. Vickie brought Chavo to the Hog Pen to make it a Handicap match. It ended up with Chavo accidently throwing a bucket of slop on Vickie. Santina put a bucket of slop on Chavo's head then punched it, then grabbed Vickie to pin her.

Josh Matthews interviewed Vickie Guerrero backstage outside her office. Josh asked about Orton invoking his rematch clause tonight. Vickie said the match will take place tonight, and she expects Batista to return later. Vickie said if Batista doesn't show and can't answer the ref's count of 10, he will forfeit the WWE title to Orton. Vickie said she has a huge announcement that will change the face of Raw forever.

Backstage, The Miz walked in to talk to Maryse. Miz joked that she shouldn't worry because Mickie James isn't around now. Miz said Maryse had a similar look on her face to the one John Cena has when he sees The Miz around. Maryse said Miz has yet to actually beat Cena. Maryse said until Miz does something, they have nothing. Miz fake kissed Maryse twice after telling her to watch his match tonight.

Santino Marella, Festus & Goldust vs.
Six Man Tag Match

WWE Rewind showed a tag match from WWE Superstar last Thursday, where Goldust and Hornswoggle defeated The Brian Kendrick and Jamie Noble.

As the bell rang, Festus went wild and ran into Kendrick in the corner to knock him down. Festus stayed in control and did a sit splash on Kendrick before tagging in Santino. Goldust was in next to take Kendrick down with a variety of moves. Noble tried to distract, but Goldust knocked him off the apron. As Goldust turned he ran into Kendrick's boot and Chavo tagged in. The heels began to isolate Goldust and beat him up, keeping him away from a tag.

Goldust eventually escaped Noble and flipped him over his back. Santino tagged in to take it to Noble. Santino took a pin on Noble with Kendrick and Chavo rushing in to disrupt it. Everyone got involved with Festus hammering Chavo to the outside. Kendrick went out with Goldust and then tossed Hornswoggle into the ring. Noble had Santino down, and started to go after Hornswoggle. Horney stomped on Noble's foot then turned, ran and dove out onto Kendrick on the outside. The distraction allowed Santino to grab Noble and roll him up for the pin.

Winners: Santino Marella, Goldust and Festus win via pinfall over The Brian Kendrick, Chavo Guerrero and Jamie Noble.

John Cena was shown walking backstage on his way out for his match against The Miz. Jerry Lawler and Cole said Vickie has made the Orton-Batista rematch for the WWE Title official.

The Miz vs. John Cena

Miz came to the ring wearing an Anti-Cena T-Shirt. Miz took a mic from Lillian Garcia and said tonight is the night everyone's been waiting for, when he goes one-on-one against Cena. Miz said he's called out Cena week after week, and Cena has done nothing. Miz called the fans pathetic for supporting Cena and said tonight he's got no more excuses. Miz said Cena may not be Tim Allen but it's about to be "Tool Time".

Right after Cena arrived to a roar from the crowd, Big Show made his way down the ramp next. Show got into the ring and went towards Cena, with Cena trying to put him in the Attitude Adjustment. Show used his weight to slide off Cena and then Chokeslammed him to the mat. From there, Show started using his Camel Clutch style Submission hold to choke out Cena. Suddenly, Miz was back in the ring and smashed a steel chair across Show's back, then repeatedly hit him with it, causing Show to fall to the ropes. From there, Miz turned and smashed the chair on Cena's back saying "I told you Cena you've got nothing on me". Miz quickly exited as Show recovered and went at him. Miz backed up the ramp with the chair smirking as Show stared out at him.

Winner: Match never officially started due to Big Show's interference. No decision.

Cole and Lawler again discussed what happened to Batista earlier on Raw.

MVP came down to the ring and took a mic, saying he needs to be in the WWE Championship match on next week's Raw. To prove it MVP said he'll beat Matt Hardy next.

MVP vs. Matt Hardy

Hardy gained control early on and eventually was choking MVP against the ropes, before running off the opposite ropes and jumping on MVP's back. Lawler discussed how Matt's been forced to compete despite his broken hand. At one point, Matt went for a right hook at MVP with the cast, but MVP ducked it. MVP hit Matt with a bunch of rights and lefts before hitting the Ballin' Elbow drop on him. After a failed pinfall, MVP missed Matt in the corner with a kick, and Matt hit him with a reverse DDT. Matt failed to make the pinfall and tried to climb the corner to club MVP with the cast. MVP grabbed Matt's legs and dropped Matt face first into the turnbuckle. From there, MVP exploited Matt's hurt arm/hand and then hit the Playmaker to win it.

Winner: MVP wins via pinfall over Matt Hardy.

Vickie Guerrero was shown walking backstage on her way out to make a huge announcement.

Lawler and Cole revisited Extreme Rules, the Ladder match for the World Heavyweight Title between Edge and Jeff Hardy. Hardy won the title but his victory celebration was shortlived as CM Punk arrived to cash in his MITB briefcase. Punk got Jeff into the GTS and won the World Heavyweight Title.

Lillian Garcia introduced Raw GM Vickie Guerrero who walked down to the ramp. Vickie mentioned her decision to grant Orton a rematch against Batista tonight and said the last thing on her mind is making the fans happy. Vickie started to cry as she talked about the humiliation of last night's Hog Pen match. Vickie said the fans had no compassion for her last night, and she's ashamed of them now. Vickie said she's had enough of the fans laughing and making fun of her, and then announced she quits as GM of Raw. As the fans went wild, all of a sudden, Edge from Smackdown made his way out from backstage and to the ring.

Edge said he felt he said some things last night that were wrong, and should apologize for them. Vickie said that's great to hear. Edge said he'd say them, but she just quit. Edge told Vickie she no longer has any power, so she's worthless to him. Edge talked about how he was only with her for her power, and now he wants a divorce. Vickie started screaming as she dropped to her knees in the ring. Edge backed up the ramp smug with himself.

Cole and Lawler revisited the Cena-Big Show-Miz incident in the ring. Josh Matthews interviewed Cena backstage. Cena said he thought he had put Show away after last night's Submission match, but it seems Show still has a problem. Cena said they'll settle the problem, then turned his attention to Miz. Cena said he can see Miz is trying to pick a fight with the biggest and toughest Raw has to offer. Cena sait it seems everytime Miz calls out Cena, he's got someone else there to do his dirty work for him. Cena promised that in the near future they'll see just how "awesome" Miz really is.

Primo & Carlito Colon vs. Cody Rhodes & Ted Dibiase

Rhodes and Dibiase tried to keep Carlito down and away from a tag, but he eventually escaped Rhodes. Primo came in with fast moves, clotheslining Dibiase down and dropkicking him. He tried for a pinfall, but Rhodes came in to disrupt it. Primo grabbed Rhodes and tossed him outside the ring, then went back after Dibiase. Rhodes tried to sneak back into the ring, but Carlito hopped off the apron and yanked him to the outside. Rhodes quickly tackled Carlito into the crowd control barrier. As Primo held himself against the ropes off a Dibiase whip, Rhodes jumped up to yank Primo's neck down against the top rope while the ref wasn't looking. Primo snapped back and Dibiase grabbed him to hit Dream Street. With the win, Legacy earned a title shot at the Undisputed Tag Team titles.

Winner: Cody Rhodes & Ted Dibiase win via pinfall over The Colons to earn a shot at the Undisputed Tag Team titles.

Randy Orton was shown walking backstage with the WWE belt on his shoulder.

Randy Orton vs. Batista
Rematch for WWE TItle

Orton arrived down to the ring with Legacy there in the ring as well. Orton spoke on the mic and had them roll footage of what they did to Batista earlier in the evening, with Batista being taken away in an ambulance. Orton said he'd win the title if Batista can't answer a 10 count or show up for the match, then told Lillian to get on with it. Lillian announced the competitors, first former champion Orton invoking his rematch clause, then Batista, the WWE Champion. Batista's music came on to Orton's surprise, but as he and Legacy stared up the ramp Batista wasn't showing up. Orton yelled at the ref to start the count of 10. The ref did so, but as he got to around 7, the camera cut to a shot of the ambulance outside. The ref stopped his count. As the camera cut back to the ambulance again, all of a sudden Triple H was on screen, and came out of the back of the ambulance.

Orton readied himself with Legacy in the ring. Triple H began walking backstage and then out to the ramp with sledgehammer in hand. Rhodes and Dibiase both rushed up the ramp to try to protect Orton, but HHH KO'd each with the Sledgehammer on the ramp. From there, HHH came to the ring and he and Orton began to brawl. Things eventually went to the outside, with HHH about to smash a TV monitor on Orton. Orton kicked HHH in the gut to avoid it. The two men ended up in the crowd, with HHH chasing Orton back to the ring. Orton had a steel chair, but the Game ran and hit him with a Spinebuster. HHH smashed the chair on Orton's skull, then flexed for the crowd before smashing the chair on Orton repeatedly. HHH stood with one foot on Orton's head, then drove the top of the chair into the back of his neck.

With Orton layed out, the fans began to chant "Pedigree!" so HHH placed the chair on the mat, then picked up Orton and Pedigreed him right onto the chair to finish him off. Orton layed face down on the mat. with HHH posing as Raw went off the air.

Winner: No decision, match never happened.
