Breaking Point 2009 PPV Matches

Vince McMahon came out on the August 24th, 2009 episode of WWE's Monday Night Raw to announce an innovative new Pay-Per-View concept. The next WWE PPV will be appropriately titled "Breaking Point". The main event matches on the card will all be fought as "submission matches", meaning making your opponent submit is the only way to win. This could be difficult for champions Randy Orton and CM Punk as neither of these stars uses a regular submission hold to win matches. However, their opponents, John Cena and Undertaker both have a lethal submission move in their arsenal. Here's a look at the matches scheduled so far for Breaking Point 2009 PPV. Check back as more matches are added to the card!

John Cena vs. Randy Orton
WWE Title "I Quit" Match

John Cena and Randy Orton's match at Summerslam 2009 was definitely one with plenty of interruptions and distractions. Orton in typical fashion, looked for every possible way to escape with his title still in his possession. He attempted to DQ himself by shoving the ref and tried to walk off for a countout. Due to orders of Mr. McMahon, the match was restarted twice with stipulations that if Orton left or got DQ'd, he'd lose his title. John Cena was poised to win, and slapped a STF on Orton. Just as Orton appeared ready to tap out, a random fan from the stands rushed into the ring and tackled the referee. Once order was restored to the ring, Orton was able to RKO Cena through the ropes from outside the ring. As he returned to the ring he hit a second RKO to capture the pinfall win against Cena, but the results were a little less than satisfying for Cena. On Monday Night Raw, WWE Chairman Vince McMahon announced that the two would meet again, this time at Breaking Point in a submission match. This match seems to favor John Cena, who has the STF as a submission move in his arsenal, but Orton is always a Viper ready to strike. Which superstar will make their opponent say the words "I Quit" and walk out with the WWE title?

Undertaker vs. CM Punk
World Heavyweight Submission Match

The big surprise of Summerslam came after CM Punk had defeated Jeff Hardy for the title in a TLC Match. Punk stood triumphantly over the fallen Hardy on the mat, but to his shock and everyone's in the arena, the lights shut off. Next a familiar sound was heard, the bells of the Undertaker tolling. As the lights returned, Undertaker was laying in the place of Jeff Hardy. He promptly grabbed CM Punk and chokeslammed him to the mat, signifying The Undertaker has returned. On the following episode of Smackdown, Punk challenged Jeff Hardy to a "Loser Leaves WWE" match inside a steel cage. Punk was able to pick up the win, sending Hardy out of WWE. However, according to GM Teddy Long, the winner of that match gets a tough task at the Breaking PPV; a submission match against the Deadman! Undertaker is well known for making much bigger opponents submit to him in the ring. Will CM Punk find a way to make the Undertaker tap?

Dolph Ziggler vs. John Morrison
Intercontinental Title Match

Ziggler has been inching closer and closer to his first big title win in the ranks of the WWE, according to Smackdown's commentators Jim Ross and Todd Grisham. Ziggler has the beautiful Maria as his support, making his mission all the stronger. In two previous PPV attempts, Ziggler failed to capture the title, but is continuing to improve, and used different strategies on the former champion Rey Mysterio. However, the title picture changed about a week or so before the PPV, with Smackdown's John Morrison challenging Rey Mysterio on Smackdown, and beating him for the Intercontinental Title. Now the PPV will see Ziggler take on John Morrison at the PPV in what is sure to be an exciting contest between the two stars. This marks Morrison's third reign as the IC champ. Ziggler was shown studying the match backstage between the two stars on Smackdown, preparing for whoever won.

Which of these two superstars will win the battle at Breaking Point? Will Ziggler finally capture singles gold, or will John Morrison successfully defend in his first title bout?

William Regal vs. Christian
ECW Title Match

While this is not a submission match according to WWE.com, Regal has been showing off his submission move on recent episodes of ECW on SyFy. The Regal Stretch was most recently applied to ECW original, Tommy Dreamer after a tag match on the show. Additionally, Regal's got two huge henchmen who will accompany him to the ring in Ezekiel Jackson and Vladimir Kozlov. The two have been known to create distractions from ringside, and even interfere in the outcomes of matches. With that sort of help, the odds may seem stacked against Christian. Will Captain Charisma find a way to retain the ECW championship, or will former King of the Ring William Regal finally capture the title?

Mark Henry & MVP vs. Chris Jericho & Big Show
Unified Tag Team Championship Match

On the 08/24/09 episode of Raw, Chris Jericho and Big Show were in the ring cutting yet another promo on their greatness. During their speech, Big Show began to talk about how scared Floyd Mayweather was to be in the same building with him, knowing that Show wanted to destroy him. Mayweather came to the ring to talk about how he would do what he did to Show at last year's Wrestlemania again. Show and Jericho began to bully the boxing star host of Raw, until MVP arrived to the ramp to interrupt. MVP told Jericho and Show to stop running their mouths so much, and then ended up challenging them to a tag team match on Raw. If MVP and his selected partner won the match, they'd get a shot at the Unified Tag Team Titles at Breaking Point. MVP's selected partner? The World's Strongest Man, Mark Henry. The duo was able to withstand Jericho and Show's doubleteams and trickery during the match and won, sending them to the Breaking Point PPV to fight for the belts. Will these recently formed tag team be able to gel and capture the tag titles? Or will Show and Jericho continue their dominant performance?

Great Khali vs. Kane
Singapore Cane match

These two have been engaged in a vicious feud for weeks now, to determine which of the two giants is the biggest beast of Smackdown. Kane took things to a new level when he kidnapped Khali's translator and friend, Ranjin Singh, then kept him as a hostage in the arena. Khali went for the save and rescued his friend, but Kane soon attacked, giving Khali a beatdown. Weeks later, Singh and Khali rushed to the ring to attack Kane using a Singapore Cane on him, setting up the match for Breaking Point. Which of these two Smackdown superstars will win the war of weapons, Khali or Kane?

D-Generation X vs. Legacy
Submissions Count Anywhere Match

In what is being billed as a first of its kind matchup, Legacy (Cody Rhodes & Ted Dibiase) will face D-Generation X (Shawn Michaels and Triple H) in a "Submissions Count Anywhere match". As recently seen on Raw, the action can break out all over the arena, and even outside of it! With that in mind, weapons and objects might come into play. Both teams are ready for the matchup, with recent displays on Monday Night Raw, but the fight that ended the show saw Legacy running away from DX, stealing a car and leaving the scene. Now on Sunday, DX gets their hands on the second generation stars. Which team will prevail in this new WWE match and make their opponents submit?

Yeah pretty interesting. Recently they did the same thing with William Regal on ECW, with no real explanation about why he was #1 Contender. It looks like Punk will lose at BP because it's hard to imagine him making Taker submit.
