After Josh Matthews welcomed fans to the show, William Regal came down to the ring with Ezekiel Jackson and Vladimir Kozlov. Matt Striker referred to it as the "International Triumphant of Doom". Regal said the fans were looking at the reason ECW will never be the same again. Regal then insulted the fans and said only he had the power it took to unite these two physical specimens. Regal turned his attention to Christian, saying the time for a new champion is now. Regal continued speaking, but just then Christian's music hit and the champ came out from backstage.

With a mic in hand, Christian addressed Regal and said he already beat him in an ECW Championship match, a record setting 8 second match. Christian continued to say it was 8 seconds, angering Regal. Regal then demanded a rematch, or he said they'd make him regret ever winning the ECW Championship. Christian began calling Regal "Bill", and Regal told him he's not a commoner. Christian said he'd like to move on to other challengers now. Just then ECW GM Tiffany came out, and told Regal if he wanted another shot at the title he'll need to earn it, by beating Christian in a match tonight.

A promo video of the Goldust Sheamus rivalry was shown, with Striker saying the rivalry would continue next.

Goldust vs. Sheamus

As ECW returned, Matthews and Striker discussed Summerslam and thanked Aerosmith for the theme song.

Backstage, The Bella Twins convinced Shelton Benjamin to sing in his Louis Armstrong voice. Zack Ryder came up to interrupt his singing and put his arms around Bella Twins. Shelton told them to excuse he and Ryder, then said he was about smack Ryder. The two began arguing over who was better in the ring, until GM Tiffany came up to intervene. She told Ryder to go get ready for his tag match against Tyler Reks & Yoshi Tatsu, with his partner Shelton Benjamin.

Striker and Matthews discussed the Paul Burchill and Hurricane Helms saga. They cut to highlights of their match last week, when Hurricane hit the Eye of the Hurricane for the win. Matthews said Hurricane and Burchill will go one on one this Thursday on Superstars.

Courtney Taylor interviewed Paul Burchill and Katie Lea backstage. Courtney asked Burchill about his match against Hurricane this week. Burchill said don't insult him by calling him anything but Gregory Helms. Burchill said after Thursday Helms won't be saving anyone anymore. The duo left with Katie Lea brushing her arm against Courtney on the way out.

William Regal was shown chatting with Kozlov and Jackson backstage about strategy for his match tonight.

Yoshi Tatsu & Tyler Reks vs. Zack Ryder & Shelton Benjamin

A backstage promo video was shown in the corner of the screen with Yoshi and Reks. Reks said even though they're from opposite ends of the Pacific they have a common bond. Yoshi spoke in Japanese and then gave the cowabunga surfer sign, so Reks did too.

At one point in the match, Shelton had control and dragged Reks over so he could tag in Ryder. Ryder started adjusting his knee pad and turned away from the tag. Reks took advantage with a rollup on Shelton for a 2 count. After a series of dropkicks from Reks, Shelton escaped to recover near the ropes and Ryder slapped him for a blind tag. Ryder came in to start pounding Reks' head onto the mat, then put on a chinlock. Reks and Ryder hit a double cross body at one point, allowing Shelton and Yoshi to each tag in.

Yoshi had serious momentum with a series of moves on Shelton including double knees to his chest. Yoshi climbed to the corner for a move, but Shelton was up and ran over to slam him off. Ryder started demanding a tag in, so Shelton grabbed him and threw him over the ropes into the ring. With Ryder down, Shelton walked towards him, but Ryder shoved Yoshi into Shelton. Shelton went flying out of the ring, and Ryder prepared to finish off Yoshi. Yoshi turned and hit a roundhouse kick on Ryder to take the win.

Shelton went back into the ring to confront Zack Ryder over the loss. Ryder started to explain his position, but Shelton wasn't having it and hit Paydirt on him.
