Smackdown Preview 08.28.09

At last Sunday's highly-entertaining Summerslam Pay-Per-View, Jeff Hardy put his World Heavyweight Title on the line against CM Punk in a Tables, Ladders & Chairs match. The match was full of destruction, including Punk once again used a chair around Jeff's neck to throw him into the ring post, further aggravating Jeff's injuries. In an incredible move, Jeff took a leap of faith Swanton Bomb from off an extra tall ladder. Jeff dove and landed the Swanton crashing down onto CM Punk through a commentary table. Jeff was promptly loaded onto a stretcher to be taken away for medical attention, but Hardy freed himself from it so he could continue. The match continued with both men putting their bodies and lives on the line. Jeff crawled to the ring and tried to stop Punk from grabbing the title belt hanging above the ring. Unfortunately, Jeff was too worn down and beaten, as Punk shoved him off the ladder and claimed the World Championship for his third time. Punk had claimed that would be Jeff's last match, but Jeff will get another shot to regain his title tonight on Smackdown, this time in a steel cage match. The match comes just days after their grueling TLC matchup. Will CM Punk be able to keep the championship belt secured around his waist, or will Jeff Hardy find a way to regain the gold?

The biggest surprise of Summerslam came after CM Punk had won the title. Punk stood victoriously in the ring looking down at the fallen Jeff Hardy. Prior to Summerslam, Punk vowed to end Jeff Hardy so that he could save the fans. With the win, Punk seemed to make his straight edge statement, that his ways would defeat Jeff's ways. However, it wasn't long until Punk received a reality check. As he stood over Jeff Hardy, the arena suddenly went dark. Then the WWE Universe heard the Undertaker's bells sound, and as the lights returned, Undertaker was lying in Jeff Hardy's spot on the mat. Punk was shocked as Undertaker reached up and grabbed him around the throat, then viciously chokeslammed him down to the mat. It seems as if the biggest statement of Summerslam was made by The Undertaker, but what are his intentions? Is the Undertaker looking to take CM Punk's soul for what he's said to the WWE Universe? Will Undertaker make his agenda clear on tonight's Smackdown?

Also at Summerslam, two other titles were successfully defended. Rey Mysterio and Dolph Ziggler put on a great show in the opening match for the Intercontinental Title. Despite Ziggler hitting his finisher, Mysterio escaped a pinfall and was able to comeback to hit his 619 and eventually get the pinfall to retain his belt. And in other action, Chris Jericho and Big Show successfully defended their Unified Tag Team titles against Cryme Tyme. Show and Jericho have continued to brag about being the best tag team ever, but will they continue to back up their claims? Also, Jim Ross and Todd Grisham noted that Ziggler has inched closer to winning the Intercontinental Title. Will Ziggler get another shot at Mysterio's title?
