Raw Revelations: Jesse Ventura's Revolutionary Raw!
Monday Night Raw got a revolutionary kick in the butt from its latest guest host, a familiar face in politics and the WWE, Jesse "The Governor" Ventura. The Governor, formerly "The Body" did it all except put on the tights to wrestle. He stood up to Randy Orton, announced a "Breakthrough Battle Royal" to determine the #1 title contender and even told off Vince McMahon, saying he managed more billions of dollars than Vince was responsible for. His only mistake was constantly calling the WWE title the "World Championship" and referring to Cena as the Heavyweight or "World Champion". Somewhere Undertaker was rolling over in his grave site...
Then again, you have to give the Governor credit for the job he did on Monday's 3 hour long Raw. Even if he mixed up the title names, he still did well for a show of that length, considering how long he's been away from the business. He brought an injection of his old revolutionary style along with his independent and radical governor style. He even ordered Vince McMahon to get in a tux and red bow tie so the two of them could relive the glory days of Saturday Night's Main Event as a commentary team. Nice touch for fans who remember those days...
Probably Ventura's greatest move was standing up to Randy Orton and telling him he would not get another WWE title shot because Jesse sticks by his decisions. Ventura said it was time for some new guys to get a shot, not the same old like HBK, HHH, Jericho, Big Show and Orton. However, later in the night Orton got himself into the "Breakthrough Battle Royal" anyways, by beating down Primo and then defeating Evan Bourne in a qualifying match. Ventura admired Orton's persistence and gave him a spot. Personally, I found that annoying, but then started thinking that either Kofi Kingston or Ted Dibiase might eliminate Orton. Kofi did the job, right before he was eliminated himself by Sheamus.
Before the Breakthrough Battle Royal, I had 2 possible winners for the Battle Royal. Kofi Kingston & Ted Dibiase were my picks, since earlier they said "Sheamus seems to be the favorite". Guess they gave it away. Also funny how they kept mentioning if a Smackdown star won, he'd get to compete for the World Heavyweight Title.
1)There was only one Smackdown guy in the battle royal - R-Truth;
2)Do you really think they'd have an Undertaker versus R-Truth title match for a PPV?
One scenario I considered was Ted Dibiase winning the Breakthrough Battle Royal. The reason was they just rolled out previews of "The Marine 2", so it would help to promote the straight-to-DVD flick if they really wanted to. A Marine 1 vs. Marine 2 battle for the WWE Title. Cena vs Dibiase, which is the better marine? You decide...
Sheamus seems like the only other choice left for a heel to face Cena for his WWE belt. Swagger was nowhere to be found on Raw and quite frankly hasn't had the success of Sheamus or even The Miz on Raw. While Sheamus has been dominating guys like Jamie Noble and various WWE staff, I'll be surprised if they put the WWE title on him. This will be yet another big "challenge" that Cena overcomes, much like Umaga, Great Khali, Big Show, DX, etc etc..Cena and Sheamus will fight it out in a Tables match, and Sheamus should crash through a table nicely...
Speaking of DX, they learned they are being sued by Hornswoggle who was also MIA from RAW. Additionally, they learned good news, they get to face JeriShow in a TLC match at the "TLC Pay-Per-View" in 3 weeks. Could DX finally get the tag titles, or will this be another starting point for a Michaels-Triple H feud??
Nice to see Maryse finally back during the divas Thanksgiving Mayflower Melee. She came in disguised as the good ol' Gobbledy Gooker, who was last seen in a gimmick battle royal at Wrestlemania X-7. Gooker was originally played by Hector Guerrero, and looks a lot better in the form of Maryse, minus the costume...Maryse then sneak attacked Melina in the ring during an interview. Anyone else see that coming with Lawler interviewing Melina out of nowhere, as the Gobbledy Gooker danced around behind them in the ring? Anyways, the whole Maryse beatdown on Melina means we're heading towards a battle between those 2 divas for the Divas title.
The whole Santino/Divas pie in the face routine, not sure it was so necessary for the show. Although I'm sure most fans enjoyed seeing Vickie get one in the face...
Next week we get to see a little guy as host, Verne Troyer, who is famous for Mini-me and his Surreal Life reality show on VH1...He'll likely take part in the Little People's Court starring Hornswoggle and his diminutive attorney...should be interesting!
