WWE dropping ECW?

According to rumors flying around the world wide web, World Wide Wrestling Entertainment may soon drop the Extreme Championship Wrestling (ECW) brand from SyFy. That's not to say they will remove their programming completely, only that they will change up the show that airs on SyFy Tuesday nights.

SyFy has been pressuring WWE quite a bit due to ECW's poor ratings. WWE producer Kevin Dunn is also not a fan of the letters ECW. So both WWE and SyFy believe a complete overhaul of the program may lead to increased ratings. Some of the rumors have centered around another show similar to WWE Superstars being put on that slot. Many sites are reporting there will be a move at the very least to drop the letters "E-C-W" from the show, and that it will feature more new talent. Tommy Dreamer has been MIA from the show for weeks and he is the "ECW original".

As the champion Christian mentioned on ECW last week, their brand really hasn't been given much respect at the past few Pay-Per-Views. Should WWE decide to drop the ECW program or at least change its name, ECW will be disrespected furthermore. Then again, ECW has been a place for rising stars and new talent to get ready for the "big leagues" of Raw and Smackdown. Examples include CM Punk, Kofi Kingston, and Sheamus who is about to challenge John Cena for the WWE Title at TLC. In all reality, the stars of ECW are there in the making, but the ratings go primarily to Raw or Smackdown. It's a relatively entertaining show full of newcomers and interesting feuds, as well as the Abraham Washington Show, which fans either love, or completely hate.

So will ECW be gone from SyFy in 2010? Stay tuned....
