Smackdown Recap from Bridgeport, CT:
Before the Smackdown opening video they showed still images from Survivor Series where the Undertaker retained his Heavyweight title in a Triple Threat match against JeriShow. Todd Grisham said tonight we'll learn who will face the Undertaker at TLC PPV, when Batista faces Kane one-on-one. The winner will become Undertaker's next opponent for the PPV.Chris Jericho arrived to the ring to discuss the upcoming TLC PPV, where he and Big Show defend the Unified tag titles against D-Generation X in a TLC match. He said after December 13th, he won't have to deal with DX any more, then called the TLC match the most dangerous contest in WWE history. Jericho cited his own personal resume of excellence in the TLC matches he's competed in, then called DX "losers". Jericho went on to talk about getting no respect in WWE, saying he should be in the number one contender's match tonight. GM Teddy Long came out and said Jericho would have a match, one-on-one with the Undertaker (non-title).
Cryme Tyme vs. Hart Dynasty
During the match, DH Smith tagged in to hit a back breaker on JTG. Tyson Kidd was soon in for a near fall pin. Several moves and a tag later, Smith used a rear chinlock to wear JTG down some before tagging Smith back in. JTG finally escaped for a hot tag to Shad, with Smith also tagging in also. Shad with a shoulder tackle off the second rope, and had a near fall broken up by Kidd. Smith hit a Saito suplex on Shad from behind to pick up the pinfall win.Winners: The Hart Dynasty wins via pinfall over Cryme Tyme.
The camera zoomed in to show the Bragging Rights trophy backstage, then revealed it was in Teddy Long's office. John Morrison was there talking to Teddy about Survivor Series. Vickie Guerrero and Eric Escobar walked in. Vickie reminded Teddy to consult her on all important decisions like the number one contenders for titles. She said Eric Escobar should be John Morrison's opponent tonight, but Long said he didn't deserve it yet. Vickie threatened to call Mr. McMahon to complain, so Long allowed the match saying it would be Escobar's only title shot.
They showed CM Punk walking backstage with a brown paper bag in hand.
CM Punk came out to the ring with a brown paper bag, and Luke Gallows, formerly known as Festus. Punk explained that he's been working with Gallows lately and helped him with his addiction to pain pills. Punk said he continues to offer help to anyone who needs it, especially those who can't help themselves. He then said on December 1st, a dangerous new drug hits the streets which is worse than chain smoking an entire carton of unfiltered cigarettes. He pulled the Jeff Hardy "My Life, My Rules" DVD out of the paper bag saying the title was appropriate for Jeff Hardy. Punk said Jeff not only ruined his own life but the lives of many others. He recommended people pay special attention to the final part of the DVD where Punk ends Jeff's career in the cage match. Just then, Matt Hardy arrived out to confront Punk.
Hardy said Punk's a cult leader while Jeff is a free-spirit who has his flaws. Matt said Punk only demonized Jeff for not following his "straightedge" nonsense. Punk said if Jeff had found the straightedge inside himself he'd have a better future. Matt said if Punk would stop worrying about everyone else maybe he wouldn't be a former straightedge champ.
Matt Hardy vs. CM Punk
Smackdown went to commercial break just a few seconds after the match was underway. When they returned, it was Punk in control working on Matt's arm. Matt missed later on a charge at Punk in the corner, hitting the ring post with his shoulder. Hardy recovered though and was able to hit a Side Effect for a two count. Matt followed up later with a series of right hand punches on Punk center ring. He hit a bulldog, and then a legdrop off the middle rope. Matt prepared for the Twist of Fate as Punk was getting up. From the apron, Gallows (Festus) grabbed Matt and bend him over the ropes. The ref called for the bell for the DQ in Hardy's favor.Gallows and Punk continued to beat on Hardy post-match, with Punk hitting a running knee on Hardy in the corner. Gallows held Matt, and Punk started using elbows on Hardy's chest. To finish it off, Gallows did a reverse full nelson on Hardy, then a back-first slam into the mat.
Winner: Matt Hardy wins due to disqualification of CM Punk when Luke Gallows interfered.
The commentators reminded fans that Chris Jericho battles Undertaker later on tonight.
When Smackdown returned Todd Grisham mentioned a biggest turkeys vote for various superstars on WWE.com. They reminded fans of the IC title match between Morrison and Escobar. They talked about the Mickie James and Michelle McCool rivalry that's been building up, then showed the Piggy James segment from last week which included McCool's Old MacDonald song.
Josh Matthews talked to Mickie James backstage. Mickie said she isn't concerned with mean or hurtful things that Layla and Michelle say. She said she's not going anywhere and hopes they know she worked hard to get where she is today.
Coming up, Kane faces Batista for #1 Contender Status and a match versus Undertaker for the title at TLC.
Kane vs. Batista
#1 Contender's Match
Early on, the match moved outside the ring where Batista smashed Kane into the crowd barrier area head first. Back in the ring, Kane gained control with a low dropkick and a series of punches. Batista came back to rake Kane in the face, then rammed him with shoulders to the gut. The Animal locked a rear chinlock on Kane before the Big Red Machine backed him into the corner. Batista elbowed Kane then put another submission on him. Kane was able to stand up and grabbed Batista right around his throat. Batista quickly grabbed the ropes to break. He kicked Kane in the knee and went for a Batista Bomb, with Kane using a backdrop to counter. Batista recovered and was working on Kane's leg to ground him before a commercial break.Coming out of break, Batista was still doing damage to Kane's leg. Kane eventually got to his feet to trade blows with Batista. Kane made his comeback as he stuck a boot up for Batista to run into in the corner. Kane tried for a clothesline off the corner but missed and came down on his hurt leg. Batista quickly speared him down for a pinfall which Kane kicked out of. Kane came back again and hit a sidewalk slam, then went to the top. Kane hit his clothesline this time, then went for a Chokeslam. Batista saw it as Kane charged him in the corner, so Batista dumped Kane right onto the top turnbuckle. He went at Kane's leg again, then set up a Batista Bomb. Kane countered and hit the Chokeslam. He had the pinfall but Batista got a foot on the ropes. Both men wound up on the outside. Kane sent Batista into the crowd barricade and then into the timekeeper's area. Batista was able to take out Kane's leg yet again on the outside, and managed to get back into the ring at 7 to win the match.
Winner: Batista wins via countout against Kane and will face The Undertaker for the World Heavyweight title at TLC.
Eric Escobar vs. John Morrison
Intercontinental Title match
Early on Morrison knocked Escobar to the mat then to the outside of the ring before hitting a springboard moonsault on him. As Morrison tried to get back in the ring, Vickie Guerrero grabbed him to allow Escobar to come out and do damage. Escobar rammed Morrison's back into the apron, then used a bear hug in the ring to further work the back. Escobar used a side suplex from there for a two count. Later still, Morrison used a heel kick to counter Escobar's move off the ropes. Escobar started ramming shoulders into Morrison's gut, but Morrison was able to use a flying chuck kick and then the Starship Pain to win it in about 3 and a half minutes. After the loss by Escobar, Vickie got in the ring and yelled at him about his missed opportunities week in and out. She slapped Escobar for embarassing her so much then stormed off.
Winner: John Morrison wins via pinfall over Eric Escobar to retain the Intercontinental title.
Out of commercial break, Eric Escobar caught up with Vickie Guerrero backstage. She told him to get out of her sight, but Escobar said she's the one who makes him sick. He said when he hugs her it makes his skin peel off his body, and when he kisses her he has to use disinfectant. Escobar said it's not worth it and they're officially done.
Striker and Grisham presented the Raw Rebound which covered guest host Jesse Ventura and the Breakthrough Battle Royal to determine a new title contender. Sheamus became #1 Contender for Cena's WWE title and will face him in a Tables match at TLC. During their contract signing, Sheamus slammed Cena through the table in the ring.
#1 Contender for the World Heavyweight title, Batista, came to ringside to join the commentary team for the Undertaker vs Jericho main event.
The Undertaker vs. Chris Jericho
Early on it was Undertaker in control, working on Jericho in the corner before hitting Old School to take down Jericho from the ropes. Jericho made a comeback attempt with Undertaker eluding it and clothesline Jericho out of the ring. Batista was staring at Taker in the ring as Smackdown went to a break.Back to the match, Taker was punishing Jericho still. He used a legdrop on Jericho who was under the bottom rope over the side of the apron. Taker was hitting Jericho repeatedly, as Batista got up from his spot at the commentators table to come over. Taker could sense he was there, and turned to face Batista who backed away to his seat. Taker went to get back in the ring where Jericho was, but Jericho delivered a dropkick to send him off the apron. Jericho tossed Taker right into the stairs.
Back in the ring, Jericho was still in control using a rear chin lock to ground Taker while talking trash at him. Taker came off the ropes for a move to try to comeback, with Jericho hitting a high dropkick to take him down. After a near fall by the former Y2J, Taker hit a side suplex on him, followed by Snake Eyes. Next up was a running boot before he slapped on a Chokeslam. Jericho fought his way out of the move, then did a running bulldog and Lionsault on Taker. Taker surprisingly grabbed Jericho again in Chokeslam mode, and hit it. He set up for a Tombstone Piledriver, but The Animal was in the ring to take out his knee. Ref called for the bell for a DQ finish.
After the bell, Batista continued his attack on the Deadman. First, Jericho hit a Codebreaker, then Batista grabbed a steel chair to use. He smashed it on Taker several times. Matt Striker noted that chairs will be legal when Batista fights Taker for the title at TLC, so it just might be the Chairs match. Batista was standing with the chair as Smackdown closed out the show.
Winner: The Undertaker wins due to DQ of Chris Jericho when Batista interfered.
