Raw is Hoff, NXT thoughts & Extreme Rules match
It was a week that saw the Hoff host Raw, Eve become new Divas Champion and Darren Young get in CM Punk's good graces, among other things. Here's some thoughts on the week that was, and what's going on with WWE lately including Hasselhoff's Raw, WWE NXT rookies and Extreme Rules 2010 matches.
First up, Hasselhoff wasn't too bad a host at all for Raw. He brought energy and charisma, although maybe a bit too much at times. Still, of all the non-wrestling hosts, at least he wasn't dull or lackluster in his deliveries. He even reprised his roles as Michael from Knight Rider and Mitch from Baywatch, for good measure. The UK fans seemed to love him too.
Early on Raw we saw Eve capture the WWE Divas Championship. An interesting and surprising move, which may be to reward Eve as the current diva ambassador. She seems to make a lot of appearances for WWE events (as do Bella Twins), so having her as the face champion probably helps right now. It was seeming like maybe she was going to have a feud with Maryse just to hold the title over until Melina returns, but surprise, surprise WWE gives us a new champ, that many fans might not care so much about.
Extreme Rules 2010 PPV now has five total matches on the card, as Edge vs Jericho in a steel cage is the latest addition. Personally, I think an Edge vs Jericho stretcher match would make more sense, but a steel cage is always fun. It was looking like we might get at least one more. The Hart Dynasty wants MizShow or ShowMiz at the PPV for the tag titles, and on Monday's Raw we might get that match when Bret Hart refuses to call ShowMiz greatest tag team ever. By the way, what's the difference between an "Extreme Rules match" and "Street Fight"? They both involve weapons and anything is legal.
WWE NXT has been enjoyable but it needs to work on those diva-like competitions that eat up a good portion of the show. It takes away from the true essence of these guys and that will be their wrestling. Their personalities are going to develop over time. Some guys clearly work better right now, for example Wade Barrett seems like he could step right onto Raw or Smackdown and provide a top title contending heel. Daniel Bryan, Justin Gabriel, Michael Tarver, Darren Young, David Otunga are all compelling characters, so it's going to be a surprise if any of them are truly eliminated from WWE. The only guy who to me just doesn't seem to have the look is Heath Slater, who reminds me a lot of Brian Kendrick, who as you know is gone. Otherwise, Wade Barrett will be the first of these guys to get his own theme song, and we can only hope its a hard rock theme similar to those of Batista, Drew McIntyre and HHH.
I enjoy the CM Punk Straightedge Society storyline most of any right now. Punk does a great job of drawing heat from the crowd, but even his backstage politics with Darren Young and Luke Gallows were fun to watch. It leaves you wondering what's going on inside Punk's head and what he's up to next. But as of April 25th, we may see a different side to Punk's head, one that's been shaved completely bald. Then he'll match Serena and Luke Gallows and they'll look even more like a trio of Matrix people or the Hellraisers from horror films.
Monday's Raw is hosted by the MacGruber cast. MacGruber is a spoof movie based on the popular MacGuyver TV series of the 80's-90's, starring several Saturday Night Live alum. Expect fun and games, but no seriousness added to the show from those guys. Vladimir Kozlov is going to play the part of the big, dumb Russian villain that has been stereotyped in various action-spy movies and TV shows. Now they just need to find a part for the Bella Twins, Santino and Hornswoggle to get everyone involved in the movie promo antics.

Honestly they need to get rid of Hornswoggle. he's a waste of airtime. The Bella Twins and Santino are great. But we can all do without Hornswiggle is what call him. I just read that the Smackdown Crew will be at Raw tonight. I hope Jericho wrestles. Anyone getting tired of the guest host concept? As far NXT goes, I'm going for Daniel Bryan he stands the best chance of winning NXT. He's got over 10 years of wrestling experience to his craft and is very devoted to wrestling.
I agree with you Funk, I think Daniel Bryan is the direction they're headed. Probably with him going 0 and whatever, but eventually beating The Miz, then taking the US title from him. Still, a guy like Wade Barrett definitely works as a big heel for WWE, along the same lines of guys like Batista and Swagger...maybe a better wrestler though.
