Smackdown results from Newark, NJ:
The opening segment had Rollins come out with the MITB briefcase to boast that Cena got lucky on Raw, but he’d be the face of the WWE soon enough. Ambrose showed up to tell him from the stage that he’s made it his goal to prevent him from cashing in for the next year. Rollins said he knows Ambrose and he can’t keep it up all year. The two eventually got into a brawl, but Randy Orton rushed out to up the numbers against Ambrose. However, Roman Reigns soon came rushing out to help Ambrose. Triple H showed up on the big screen and booked Ambrose vs. Orton for later on, mentioning that if Reigns interferes he’s out of the Fatal Fourway at Battleground.
Sheamus defeated Alberto Del Rio via pinfall in a non-title match. Sheamus had a late moonsault to a pin, but Del Rio rolled through it. Moments later, Sheamus hit the Brogue Kick for the win.
Bo Dallas defeated Diego of Los Matadores via pinfall. Dallas won the match in about a minute and a half using the Bo-Dog. He gave a post-match speech to Torito about how he could grow taller, but Torito gored him in the butt, prompting Dallas to lecture him on doing that. Torito danced around, so Bo grabbed him and slammed him from overhead to finish the lesson off.
Chris Jericho came out to the ring to talk about his recent return and realizing The Wyatts are a little dangerous, but so is he. He said they will never, ever be the same again, when he’s done..Jericho was soon interrupted by The Wyatts sound effect.
Bray introduced himself to Jericho and used Jericho’s own catchphrase but suggested Jericho needs to “save himself.” Jericho tried to get Wyatt to come out to the ring, but instead The Miz came down. He asked Jericho how it feels to be interrupted. Miz said he might have helped Jericho against The Wyatts on Monday, but Jericho broke the golden rule by trying to hurt Miz’s moneymaker, his face. Jericho responded to the interruption with another Codebreaker on Miz.
Big E came to the ring for his match and talked about how he was ready to avenge the beating that his friend Kofi Kingston recently took from Cesaro post-match. Paul Heyman came out from backstage to introduce himself and his client. Cesaro got into the ring and attacked Big E before a match could start, tossing him to the outside. He used a chair and threw Big E over the announce table, but Big E regrouped and fought back, tossing Cesaro overhead outside the ring. Eventually, Heyman called off Cesaro and brought him back up the ramp as referees also intervened.
AJ Lee defeated Eva Maria via submission in a non-title match. Paige was watching from ringside near the commentators. At one point, Eva tossed AJ out of the ring and the champion came face-to-face with Paige. Back in the ring, AJ jumped up on Eva’s back for a sleeper hold. Eva was about to counter with a sideslam, but AJ countered that into the Black Widow submission to make Eva tap out. Post-match, Paige congratulated AJ, shaking her hand and clapping for her.
Damien Sandow came out impersonating “The Boss” Bruce Springsteen of “Born in the USA” fame since Smackdown was in New Jersey for the July 4th episode. Lana and Rusev came out to interrupt with a talk about Russia, but then were interrupted by Zeb Colter and Jack Swagger. Eventually, Rusev and Lana retreated from the scene.
Dean Ambrose defeated Randy Orton due to disqualification. Rollins was down at ringside on commentary to give his thoughts during the match. Late in the contest, Ambrose tossed Orton into the ring from outside, then dove onto Rollins at the commentary area. He got back in the ring and managed to roll Orton up for a near fall. Ambrose went for the finisher, but Orton powerslammed him instead. Ambrose was able to backdrop Orton out of the ring in front of the announce table. Ambrose went for the suicide dive, but Rollins was ready and hit him in the shoulder with the MITB briefcase, causing the DQ.
Post-match, Orton hit the RKO on Ambrose. He and Rollins tore off the tape on Ambrose’s shoulder. Rollins went to the top rope for a move, but Reigns came running out and shoved him off. He connected on a Superman Punch on Orton, then got ready to spear him. Rollins yanked Orton out of the ring to save him. Smackdown ended with Reigns checking on Ambrose.
