Smackdown Recap 1/19/07


Smackdown kicked off first with a replay of last week's match between Miz and Undertaker, where Kennedy interfered to preserve his time of 5:07. Following this, Mr Kennedy came to the ring to gloat and brag how he had won the tournament and not even Undertaker could outdo him. All of a sudden, Teddy Long appeared on the ramp to inform Mr Kennedy that since he cost Undertaker the match last week, that they would face each other in singles competition tonight. And if the Undertaker wins, it will be a triple threat match at Royal Rumble, Kennedy vs Undertaker vs Batista for the title!

Matt Hardy defeats Joey Mercury - Joey Mercury continues in his quest to disfigure Matt Hardy. Mercury continued to assault Hardy during the match smashing Hardy's face to the mat and ring pole. Eventually Hardy countered a Mercury move with a reverse roll up pin. Hardy wins, but Johnny Nitro appears with Melina. Nitro enters the ring and attacks Hardy. MNM then rolls Hardy out of the ring and removes the protective mat from the concrete. MNM lifts Hardy up and slams him down to the concrete, face first.

Miz is seen backstage bragging to Ashley and Layla that he took Undertaker to the limit in their match last week. Kane appears behind Miz, scaring everyone off.

Kristal tries to interview Vickie Guerrero at the lockerroom. Vickie tells Kristal she needs to tell her something and they go into the lockerroom.

Regal, Taylor and MVP defeat Kendrick, London and Vito in a six man tag match. The heels capitalized on keeping Vito in the ring, not allowing him to tag out. Eventually Vito escapes and makes a tag to Kendrick who begins to clear the ring flying about and knocking down Regal Taylor and MVP. London enters the ring and flies out onto Taylor outside the ring. With Vito, Taylor and Kendrick out of the ring, MVP and Regal grab Kendrick. MVP performs the finisher on Kendrick for the 3 count pin.

Chris Benoit defeats Chavo Guerrero via submission - NO DQ US Championship Title match - A very physically demanding and grueling match. Chavo started things off with a low blow to knock Benoit down. Chris Benoit was able to almost lock in several crossface cripplers during the match, both in and outside the ring. Chavo grabbed a chair and attempted to hit Benoit several times, but Benoit ducked and countered. At one point Chavo brought the US title in the ring and the chair and was able to suplex Benoit onto both. Benoit managed to escape a frog star splash attempt by Chavo. Benoit locks on a Sharpshooter on Chavo. Chavo tries to escape or grab the chair but ends up tapping out. Benoit wins and retains his title.

Batista is basckstage and tells Kristal he plans to be at ringside for the Kennedy vs Undertaker match.

A new tag team debuts, Deuce & Domino, two 50's style greasers in leather jackets, white tees and slicked back hair. The two arrived in a vintage convertible with their valet, Cherry, a blonde in 50's garb chewing gum and wearing rollerblades. The tag team easily dominated two amateurs. Deuce scores a kick to the face of his opponent and Domino scores the pin. Deuce carries Cherry out over his shoulder as she waves to the crowd giggling.

Kane defeats The Miz - Kane manhandled a petrified Miz in ring for several minutes. Eventually, Kane performs a clothesline to Miz off the top ropes. Miz stands stunned and turns to be chokeslammed to the mat by Kane. Kane scores the 3 count and win.

Kristal is in Theodore Long's office and requests a meeting with Teddy next week to discuss an idea she had. Theordor long agrees and as he turns, King Booker and Queen Sharmel are behind him. Booker tells Teddy he never got the rematch vs Batista for the title. Booker says he plans to regain the title via the Rumble Match. Teddy tells Booker next week they will preview the Royal Rumble with a 6 man over the top rope match, and Booker will participate.

Batista enters the arena in a suit to his music and fireworks, then joins JBL and Michael Cole at the announcers table. Kennedy and Undertaker enter for their main event Matchup. If Undertaker wins, it will be at triple threat match at Royal Rumble. If Kennedy wins, it will be a 1 on 1 contest.

Undertaker vs Mr. Kennedy - Kennedy wins via DQ
With Batista looking on Mr Kennedy and Undertaker began their match. Undertaker started with the assault taking it to Kennedy early on. Eventually Kennedy escaped the corner with a shot to Taker's face and clotheslined the Deadman down. The two began exchanging punches. Then Undertaker knocked Kennedy out of ring. Kennedy stood up to be face to face with Batista. Undertaker followed outside the ring and knocked Kennedy down with a kick. At one point Taker grabbed Kennedy and seated him up on the ropes in the corner. Taker began to punch Kennedy repeatedly and went to go for a suplex off the ropes, but Kennedy managed to headbutt Taker down. Kennedy prepared to jump down onto Taker, but Taker rose and hit Kennedy with a chop to the face. During the match Batista observed and noted how he cant underestimate Kennedy and also welcomes the challenge of facing Undertaker as well.

Kennedy and Undertaker battled on the ring mat as Kennedy slapped a submission hold on Taker. Taker reversed and began hitting Kenendy to escape. Both men back to their feet. Undertaker punched Kennedy over the top ropes out of ring. Undertaker then went to whip Kennedy into the steel steps, but Kennedy reversed and threw Taker to the steps, knocking him down. Kennedy got on side apron to jump onto Taker. Taker on his feet, caught Kennedy in air and then rammed him against the metal ring post. Undertaker brings Kennedy up in the ring for a Last Ride, but Kennedy manages to escape and jump down to his feet, then chopping Taker's knee. Taker back up goes to slap a chokeslam in, Kennedy counters and escapes. Undertaker whips Kennedy into the corner and then picks him up to slam him down on the corner ropes. Kennedy whipped against the ropes, Taker kicks him down. Mr. Kennedy then gets knocked out of the ring again by Taker. As Kennedy get sback on his feet, he turns and smacks Batista in the face. Mr. Kennedy runs back into the ring, Taker slaps a chokehold on him to slam him down. Just then Batista runs into the ring and begins to assault Kennedy. The bell rings and Kennedy wins via disqualification. Kennedy escapes up the ramp with Batista staring him down, and Undertaker in ring looking on at what just transpired...

What will happen next week? Does Taker get another shot? Or will Taker need to win the Royal Rumble Match to get his shot?? Stay tuned...
