Thoughts on Summerslam

With Summerslam ended, you have to once again question the title situation. With the MVP vs. Hardy match removed, you'd think that would mean 1 less title change. However, there were a total of 0 title changes. It makes you wonder if guys who are returning from injury will be challenging for the titles, or guys who are still injured or suspended will (Undertaker, Jeff Hardy). You can also make the arguments: 1)never pick against Cena and 2)he's got to lose sometime.

I'm no Cena hater, I was semi-surprised he won, because they seem to be building his title reign up to epic proportions. I just hope we all get that HHH vs Cena match we'd like to see, rather than Cena going on a break from WWE after losing to say, Snitsky. It also seems with the ECW title they might be hurting CM Punk's superstar status. Smart money would say he's the most popular wrestler in ECW but maybe not. If it takes him 10 tries to win the belt, I'm not sure how worthy a champ he will make by then. I'm also willing to speculate with Mr. Kennedy, he's likely to win the Royal Rumble or another Money in the Bank en route to a title shot at Wrestlemania. Beyond that, the Pay Per Views are always entertaining, but sometimes you need to shake things up a bit.

Northjersey.com had a good writeup prior to the big Summerslam event, taking a look at why pro wrestling continues to be popular and showcasing some of the wresters involved in the event. From Northjersey.com:

"Think of it as soap opera with body slams, submission holds and the occasional folding chair thrown in.

"The story lines definitely keep you watching," said Reggie Green, 24, of Teaneck, who was eagerly looking forward to attending his third SummerSlam. "You always want to know what's going to happen next. It's fun to watch on TV, but there's nothing like being at a live event."

And this year's event will showcase the wrestling world's bag of tricks, new and old: Hard-fought and much-wanted grudge matches. A ring full of curvy female wrestlers known as divas duking it out to prove which lady is toughest. And the latest face of the WWE, champion John Cena, the clean-cut, hip-hop-loving hard body who has worn the crown for less than 12 months. "
